FINALIST FOR THE CHRISTY AWARD®

Survival. A Hebrew girl first tasted it when she escaped death nearly seventy years ago as the Babylonians ransacked Jerusalem and took their finest as captives. She thought she’d perfected in the many years amongst the Magoi and the idol worshippers, pretending with all the others in King Nebuchadnezzar’s court. Now, as Daniel’s wife and a septuagenarian matriarch, Belili thinks she’s safe and she can live out her days in Babylon without fear–until the night Daniel is escorted to Belshazzar’s palace to interpret mysterious handwriting on a wall. The Persian Army invades, and Bellili’s tightly-wound secrets unfurl with the arrival of the conquering army. What will the reign of Darius mean for Daniel, a man who prays to Yahweh alone?

Ultimately, Yahweh’s sovereign hand guides Jerusalem’s captives, and the frightened Hebrew girl is transformed into a confident woman, who realizes her need of the God who conquers both fire and lions.

What is your motivation behind The Certain Hope? Why did you want to write it?

The Certain Hope is the third book in the standalone hope-themed series. Book three highlights thirty-something love, which can be as precarious as younger love. By that age, we’ve weathered numerous life storms. Living life can, and often does, alter our opinions, circumstances and outlook.

Faithfully Bookish – Excerpt

The doorbell chimed what she termed his signature ring: one long peal, followed by two shorter ones. Saying goodbye might ruin her. Hair patted into place, she opened the door with an unsteady hand.

Andy leaned on the rail, watching the door fling open. The six men who worked with him stood at his side. Silence reigned. They stood there, grinning at her.

Tara couldn’t resist returning the smiles. Their noisy camaraderie while they worked would be missed.

Brooke Blogs – Excerpt

The house needed only a minor overhaul. He was the man for the task if he was able to buy the place. Luke enjoyed restoring old houses. Especially one he hoped to make his own. As he’d climbed the steps, he was assessing the fair market value.

Then Tara had opened the door.

Luke had fallen in love on sight.

Uplifting Reads – Excerpt

“So you prefer dating a man who works at McDonald’s?” Marcie asked.

Mindy laughed until she coughed.

Giggles erupted around the table.

“Tara would if his name was Andy,” Mindy finally said.

Tara batted dream-filled eyes. “I love a man I’ll never see again.” She paused, eyeing Mindy. “Honest enough for you?”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

Tara’s hopeful nonchalance intrigued Luke more than it ever had. He’d finally found his sassy, laidback lady that would love him. She was a snappy work of art he couldn’t resist. Her projected innocence snagged him the first time they met.

Things are moving in the right direction. How do I bring my lovely lady along for the journey?

Before long, Olivia took a much-needed breath. The lull in the conversation reminded him about the other people in the room. He leaned his mouth close to Tara’s ear while speaking in a stage voice.

Pause for Tales – Review

“The Certain Hope is a story of love at first sight and I really enjoyed it. . . . This was a unique story that showed the positives and negatives of falling in love so quickly and throws in a few surprise twists as well. This was my first book by author Jackson and I look forward to more of her stories.”

Wishful Endings – Excerpt

“Your sad eyes don’t sway me.” Her hip butted him out the way. “It’s too late to show remorse. You set me up.”

Luke raised three fingers. “Scout’s honor. I had no expectations either way. The choice was always yours.” His voice softened as his gaze caressed her face. “Beautiful as always.”

Tara steeled herself against the compliment. Real facts deserved more than a passing remark that missed the point.

Splashes of Joy – Review

“Overall, I did enjoy the story. For me, Luke’s personality caused me to want to keep reading, because I wanted to find out what happens with the two. . . . And I feel Ms. Jackson does an excellent job of weaving the issues together so the plot runs so smooth. This is the second book I’ve read from Ms. Jackson, and I enjoy her writing. So I encourage you to check out The Certain Hope as well as other books by this author.”

Remembrancy – Review

“…there are stories of love-at-first-sight marriages that are going strong, so even if it’s not your reality, it is entertaining. And may also serve as a cautionary tale to not jump into anything too quickly, especially if the people you trust are conflicted about your decision. And through it all, I was cheering for Tara’s happily-ever-after.”

Simply Kelina – Review

“Should you read it? YES! I still recommend it, especially if you love a good romance. I am actually really interested in reading some of the authors other works as I did enjoy it overall.”

The vase received a place of honor above the fireplace while the open chocolate box tempted them on the cocktail table. A faint disinfectant scent lingered in the air. Luke always found a faultless house when he visited. It was the perfect backdrop for his prim and proper miss. “Are you a true neat freak, or will stuff drop on my head if I open a closet door? I vote neat freak.”

“We’re simpatico. Guests can eat off your floors.” Tara nestled into the arm Luke draped around her shoulder. “Mmm. I like sitting close to you. How was your day?”

“It’s over. I’d rather discuss us.”

Colorimetry – Excerpt

This family has a fixation with that woman. “I’m a free man. I can date whomever I choose.”

“The grapevine says she’ll arrive in St. Louis on Friday. A month earlier than planned. Guess she didn’t accept your answer.”

Luke chuckled. “Now she knows that proposing to a disinterested man has consequences. Besides, holding false expectations is a character flaw I hate.”

“. . . an entertaining read if you enjoy romance. . . . better suited to those who like Insta-love, since that’s basically the premise of the relationship. It’s a Lifetime movie in print.”

Tara joined the line of cars headed from the park. Her haggard brain was ready for a nap. Approximately fifty buses stood between her car and the road home. She drummed her fingers on the steering wheel, instead of succumbing to what she really desired to do. Her mind hankered to blow the horn until reaching Kingshighway. Sort of a celebration cheer and “get out of the way” rant combined in one.

The relaxing evening she imagined with Luke fueled her determination to hurry home. Next on the agenda was a marvelous dinner. The legwork was prepared that morning. She only had to pop the casserole into the oven and prepare a salad.

“The Certain Hope is a story of hope, love and faith. . . . I am giving The Certain Hope five plus stars. I recommend it for readers who love a beautifully, well written and clean stories. I believe it is a must read and I highly recommend it. I would love to read more like this one by EC Jackson in the future.”

Heidi Reads… – Excerpt

While drying dishes, Tara jumped as soap suds hit her face. She spun around when Luke laughed, right before lobbing another soap ball at her. She ducked. Only trickles of water dusted her hair.

Her reflexes immediately kicked in. The water pitcher was in her hand before thinking better of her next move. The shock on Luke’s face stilled her hand. He was soaked. Water slid from his hair, and over his body, until it streamed across the floor.

“Oops! Blame yourself and not me,” she yelled, charging past him.

“For a quick, nice read, this is the ideal book for a Friday or Saturday night curled up in front of the fire or on the beach in the afternoon. The story is enjoyable and has a few fun twists and turns along the way. I believe the author knows her target audience well, and she has delivered exactly what is expected in story, character, and charm.”

When You Are Near

Book:When You Are Near

Release Date:March 5, 2018

After her father’s death, Lizzy Brookstone, a trick rider in the all-female Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza, wants nothing more than to quit her role as the star of the show and live a quiet life on her family’s ranch. But returning home would bring Wesley DeShazer, the ranch’s foreman and the man who broke her heart, back into her life. In addition, the Brookstones’ new manager fears that Lizzy’s departure could doom the already cash-strapped show.

Hope grows in Lizzy during a stopover at Fleming Farm. Ella Fleming not only has a natural talent for trick riding and could easily replace Lizzy, but she’s eager to join the show to flee a forced betrothal. However, while there, one of the show’s wranglers is killed in a manner Lizzy finds suspicious. And during her escape from the farm, Ella stumbles across a secret that could affect all of their lives, as well as the future of the Brookstone Extravaganza.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

When You Are Near is a fabulous read! This the first book I’ve read about the early 20th century Wild West Shows and trick riders, I knew nothing at all about them. The book is so well researched and written, with the most wonderful characters. Well except for a few of them. And there is so much going on in the story you don’t want to put the book down. From cowboys to city folks, to mystery, murder suspense deception, so much humor and the sweet romance, to determination and pride of this family, there is no way to hit on everything in this review. So I’ll tell you just a few things.

Lizzy and her family were on the road with their Wild West Shows throughout the country much of the year. The rest of the time they spent in their ranch practing for the next year, and where Forman Wesley runs the day to day production. A lot happens in this particular year with the deaths of two very important people, an uncle that struggles with life issues and a romance that needs to happen but the two people are so hard headed!

I love Lizzy’s family, the love they have for each other and those working for them, and the ranch and ranch house sounds like a wonderful place to be. Lizzy’s mom is the sweet strong Christian that holds the family together. There are quite a few characters, and most seem like family, so I sure hope we have more from this family and the story setting!

Tracie Peterson is just amazing! I have read most of her books and they are all amazing! It’s hard to find a favorite! The way she describes each scene makes the story come alive before your eyes. When you find yourself wanting to pray for character, your just hooked! Ans I love and appreciate that Ms. Peterson weaves the gospel into her books, and she dies it with such class that it just fits.

I encourage you to check out this amazing read by and amazing author! You will love it as much as I do! A copy of this book was provided by Celebration Lit Tours and the author for me to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.

Guest Post from Tracie

Introducing…When You Are Near!

I’m excited about the new Brookstone Brides series and had so much fun researching for the various characters and locations. This is a story about a fictional Wild West show with all female performers. Prior to the rodeos we see today, the Wild West shows traveled throughout America and Europe to entertain people and give city dwellers a taste of what the American frontier was like. At least their version.

Buffalo Bill Cody was famous for his shows, which brought Native Americans and their culture into the world of people who might otherwise never have even seen an “Indian.” Pawnee Bill was another entertainer who sought to keep these shows alive.

For the fictional show in my novels, I wanted to focus on three female characters who became a part of the Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza for varying reasons. Lizzy Brookstone is the heroine in book one, When You Are Near, and as the daughter of one of the show’s owners, she has enjoyed a starring role as a trick rider.

For research I went to Pueblo, Colorado to the ranch of Karen Vold, a famous trick rider and rodeo star. Linda Scholtz, a famed trick rider, was teaching a clinic there along with Karen at the Red Top Ranch Trickriding School.

These are two remarkable Christian trick riders who have long worked to keep the sport alive. I spent three days getting to know them and what they do and learned so much. And just to prove that we weren’t all work and no play, I thought I’d share my attempt at trick riding. What I won’t do for research!

The series will have three books, as usual, and each book will focus on a different lady and her skills. Mary is a trick shooter like Annie Oakley, and Ella is a Roman rider who stands on the backs of two horses for her part in the act. It was so interesting learning about each of these types of performers, and I hope you’ll get a chance to read all three and enjoy the stories of the Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Book Description

From bestselling authors in the Amish genre come four stories about reuniting with those you love.

Their True Home by Amy Clipston

When Marlene Bawell moved from Bird-in-Hand ten years ago, she was in the deepest of mourning for her mother. Now, her family has moved back so her father can seek employment after being laid off. To help save money, Marlene works at the hardware store owned by Rudy Swarey’s father. She knew Rudy growing up and had a secret crush on him, though he never seemed to notice her. But just as a friendship between them begins to blossom, her life is once again turned upside down. Will Marlene ever have a chance to find her own true home?

A Reunion of Hearts by Beth Wiseman

Ruth and Gideon Beiler experienced one of life’s most tragic events. Unable to get past their grief, the couple abandoned their Amish faith and went in different directions, though neither could bear to formally dissolve the marriage. When their loved ones reach out to them to come home for a family reunion, Ruth has reason to believe that Gideon won’t be there. Gideon also thinks that Ruth has declined the invitation. Family and friends are rooting for them to reunite, but will it all be enough for Ruth and Gideon to get past their grief and recapture a time when they were in love and had a bright future ahead of them?

A Chance to Remember by Kathleen Fuller

Cevilla Schlabach, Birch Creek’s resident octogenarian matchmaker, is surprised when Richard, a man from her Englisch past, arrives in Birch Creek for a visit. While he and Cevilla take several walks down memory lane, they wonder what the future holds for them at this stage of life or the possibility of something else?

Mended Hearts by Kelly Irvin

At eighteen, Hannah Kauffman made a terrible mistake. Her parents and members of her Jamesport Amish community say they’ve forgiven her. But she feels their eyes following her everywhere she goes with eighteen-month-old Evie. Thaddeus, Evie’s father, escaped this fate by running away from Jamesport. Now that Thaddeus is gone, Hannah’s old friend Phillip is stepping up to be by her side. He has waited patiently for Hannah to realize just how much he cares for her. But when Thaddeus returns after two years, Hannah can’t ] all this time mean that she owes him something? Can she trust either one of them? Can she trust herself? She has repented and been forgiven by the One who is most important—her heavenly Father. But is she willing to risk making more mistakes by opening herself up to love?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

An Amish Reunion is four short stories by four of my very favorite authors! And I love to read short stories sometime⁰s because I can read one story in a sitting! And with Amy Clipston, Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller, and Kelly Irvin, I knew each story had to be an awesome read!

Their True Home by Amy Clipson,

A Reunion of Hearts by Beth Wiseman

A Chance to Remember by Kathleen Fuller,

Mended Hearts by Kelly Irvin

Each of these stories there is a reunion of some sort, and a need each have needs that bring them back to friends and family, and to the God they trust. These stories are short, somewhere around 100 pages, so they can be read in one setting. If you don’t have a lot of time to read, I highly recommend this book for you to read. I love the stories in this book. Each story taking me to a different place, with different people, but the stories are so similar. They are all encouraging, Uplifting, and will lighten your mood as you go through this season. I love them all! I don’t like picking favorites, and I think it’s something in each story we can learn from.

Glory Road by Lauren K Denton plus Giveaway

Banner_GloryRoad_BlogTour_JR

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Glory Road by Lauren K. Denton with JustRead Publicity Tours! We continue the Glory Road celebration on social media starting March 26.

ABOUT THE BOOK

GloryRoad-LaurenKDentonTitle: Glory Road
Author: Lauren K. Denton
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Genre: Women’s Fiction/Southern Fiction
Release Date: March 19, 2019

Written in Lauren Denton’s signature Southern style, Glory Road tells the story of three generations of women navigating the uncertain pathways of their hearts during a summer that promises to bring change–whether they’re ready for it or not.

At thirty-eight, garden shop owner Jessie McBride thinks her chances for romance are years behind her and, after her failed marriage, she’s fine with that. She lives contentedly with her fiery mother and her quiet, headstrong daughter. But the unexpected arrival of two men on Glory Road make her question if she’s really happy with the status quo. Handsome, wealthy Sumner Tate asks her to arrange flowers for his daughter’s wedding, and Jessie finds herself drawn to his continued attention. And Ben Bradley, her lingering what-could-have-been from high school days who’s known her better than anyone and whom she hasn’t seen in years, moves back to the red dirt road. Jessie finds her heart being pulled in directions she never expected.

Meanwhile, Jessie’s fourteen-year-old daughter, Evan, is approaching the start of high school and trying to navigate a new world of identity and emotions–particularly as they relate to the cute new guy who’s moved in just down the road. At the same time, Jessie’s mother, Gus, increasingly finds herself forgetful and faces a potentially frightening future.

As all three women navigate the uncertain paths of their hearts and futures, one summer promises to bring change–whether they’re ready for it or not.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Glory Road is a quiet, small place where Jessica owns a thriving garden shop, and lives with her daughter and mom. She moved back to Glory Road years ago after devorcing the husband that decided he wanted someone else and not her. Jessica lives her quiet life and was content with her small family. That is until two handsome, very different men came into her life. One she had never met, one that lived on Glory Road when they were growing up. And life is just not the same as before these two men arrive.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I love the characters, they were all fantastic! Jessica and her quirky mom has such different personalities, and I can see a little off Evan in both of the ladies. Three strong women, two of which have suffered heartbreaking issues life has thrown them, all determined to stay strong and fight to strive in this world. I love Glory Road and the atmosphere surrounding the place! It all seems olive somewhere in a dream, yet so close and realistic. It’s a place I would sure want to live. Ms. Denton does a really good job weaving together the differences between Ben and Sumner, and with Jessica struggling to make a decision between the two. Of course I fell in love with Ben from the beginning, so I was cheering for him all along! But you have to read the book for the rest of that story!

Glory Road is a sweet calming read for me. It’s like settling down at home for a nice relaxing stay. It’s that book you want to read when you need a few days of relaxing. It’s a book that I highly recommend to anyone wanting a nice clean time of enjoyment through books!

Tiny Truths Bible

FF3F1E9A-567C-48F1-9F66-75ECE34FC8A5.jpeg

With whimsical illustrations and engaging storytelling, The Tiny Truths Illustrated Bible presents all your favorite stories and diversely represented characters from the Old and New Testaments. It starts at the very beginning with the magnificence of creation and includes Moses parting the Red Sea, Jonah being swallowed by a giant fish, and ultimately the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the rescuing King.

Uniquely presented in a way that connects each individual story to the next, this book introduces children to the most important ideas and characters of the Bible while also making clear how everything fits together to tell one big story––the story of God’s love for his children.

Kids will want to return to these joyful, memorable stories again and again, building their understanding of God’s Word. And the practical lessons, reminders, and truths found throughout the stories make this an invaluable resource for parents and teachers.

The Tiny Truths Illustrated Bible will help your children discover:

Who God is––the one who made everything and everyone
Who we are––his children, whom he loves unconditionally
What we were made for––to love God and everyone else

Introduce your children to the incredible story of God’s enormous love for them with The Tiny Truths Illustrated Bible! This book’s bright and engaging cover has a unique feel and pops off the page with debossing.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BIBLE

This isn’t a really cute little Bible for kids. It mad up if a number of Stories in the Bible that give children a good overview of what the Bible is about! And they didn’t leave out the Gospel story, the Death Burriel and Resurrection of our Savior! Yayaya!  So many Bible story books leave this story out. I guess because of them talking about Jesus’ death.

Another thing I like is the beautiful pictures throughout the tiny Bible! Pictures that any child will love looking at over and over, and they are also good questions starters. I love when kids start asking questions from the pictures they see. The cover is even more beautiful with the embossing, that gives the pictures dimension and makes the cover pop out at you!

If you find yourself in need of a Bible for your tiny one, this would be an awesome choice! I highly recommend this adorable Bible!

Welcome to the Blog Tour and Giveaway for Her Colorado Cowboy by Mindy Obenhaus, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

9781488042782(1)Title: Her Colorado Cowboy
Series: Rocky Mountain Heroes, Book 3
Author: Mindy Obenhaus
Publisher: Harlequin Love Inspired
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 19, 2019

Lassoing the single mom’s heart…
A Rocky Mountain Heroes story

Socialite Lily Davis agrees to take her children riding…despite her fear of horses.

But now widowed cowboy Noah Stephens is determined to help her get comfortable in the saddle. And, at her children’s insistence, Lily finds herself promoting his rodeo school.

As Noah and Lily work together, will Noah continue to shield his heart…or can they discover a love that conquers both their fears?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Lily Davis decides to take her two children on an all summer vacation in the small town of Ouray, near Abundant Blessings Ranch, where trail rides were offered. Lily is in hopes her kids will have fun without the electronic devices they have. As well as hoping it would change her son Colton’s attitude. But spending time at the Ranch was much more than Lily ever expected.

This is such a sweet story! And I like Lily’s reason for helping her kids have fun with outside of their electronics. More kids today need parents like Lily to give them more options in what they spend their time doing! I feel Ms. Obenhaus created characters that were realistic and believable, making the story seem more realistic. And you’ve gotta love Noah and his reaction with Lily’s kids. They both loved him immediately, and he was awesome with Colton. But it was not only the way Noah related to the kids, it was how he could relate with Lily herself that captured my attention. Again, the author does a fantastic job of weaving the lives of characters that were so different, and creating a story that moves so smoothly.

Overall, this is a wonderful story, giving hope to those who feel they have none. There’s so much more going on in this story, but I do my work abt to share it because you really need to read it for yourself! I highly recommend Her Colorado Cowboy for a few hours of enjoyment and entertainment for you! If you enjoy a good clean Christian Romance, this one is definitely for you!

The Certain Hope
(Hope Series #3)
By E. C. Jackson
Christian Contemporary Romance
Paperback & ebook, 318 Pages
December 5th 2018

Love at first sight. It’s every girl’s dream. But Tara Simpkins is finding out it’s not as easy as it seems. Is this truly the man God sent to be her husband, or is she just desperate to escape her loneliness? The recent loss of both parents has left her reeling, and close friends don’t think she’s in any position to make major life decisions. She and her new-found love are convinced they can live happily ever after in the home of their dreams. His family thinks he’s moving way too fast and might disappoint the kind-hearted woman he’s fallen head over heels for. And then there’s Leah. Leah is supposed to be part of his past, but what if she decides she’s his future? Tara’s match made in Heaven may be over before it truly begins.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Tara Simpkins feels all alone now that she has lost both her parents. So when she has some work done on her house, she is attracted to one of the guys working. But is her attracted to her? Well she soon finds out, but it’s nothing like she thought it would be!

I liked Tara and her shy personality and I felt sorry for her being so lonely. But Luke, I just couldn’t like him and his demanding, obnoxious attitude. With Tara, he tries to be this sweet talking guy, but with his family and during Leah’s appearance in the story, I found him hateful and rude. My heart went out to Tara because she is being pulled two ways, with Luke pushing her into a quick marriage, and her friends trying to talk her into taking it a little slower.

Now, I know those who have experienced love at first sight, and marriage is working fine for them may disagree, but at the same time it is smart to be cautious. And I think The Certain Hope is a really good book to make a person think twice about going into a marriage so fast because there was certainly enough warnings from Tara’s friends as well as Luke’s family. I would love to have know more about Luke and Tara’s marriage, if it worked out ok for them? The problems they faced, if any, about not getting to know each other better before they plunged into marriage.

Overall, I did enjoy the story. For me, Luke’s personality caused me to want to keep reading, because I wanted to find out what happens with the two. As obnoxious as he was, the book just wouldn’t have been a good read without it. And I feel Ms. Jackson does an excellent job of weaving the issues together so the plot runs so smooth. This is the second book I’ve read from Ms. Jackson, and I enjoy her writing. So I encourage you to check out The Certain Hope as well as other books by this author.

Other Bodies by Joel Ohman

401507AE-B65B-4E0B-8D03-0C4FAB375FCD.jpeg

ABOUT THIS BOOK

In a world where immersive VR suits distort what is real from what is not, and the AI Personhood Act blurs the lines between body and bot, the choices sixteen-year-old Hattie Martins faces are very personal.

Welcome to Hattie Martins’ dystopian Philadelphia, where everything is not as it seems…

Just as her life is looking up–a new job, new friends, a new date–Hattie discovers not all progress in her beloved, futuristic Philadelphia is for the best. Societal regrets can become personal regrets in an instant. Choices don’t always come with second chances, and when they do the cost can be unimaginable. How far will she go to undo her greatest regret? And worse yet, what will she become if it’s too late?

In a world where bots are equal to bodies, what does it mean to be alive?

What is real?

Which bodies matter?

What about the other bodies?…

In this blistering new young adult novel from the #1 bestselling author of the Meritropolisseries, readers will question everything they know about life and reality in a unique dystopian adventure that is equal parts moral dilemma and romance.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

First of all, this is not an easy book to read, nor is it going to be easy to review. The story starts with a very disturbed sixteen year old Hattie Martin. Life sure hasn’t been good to her so far, with the loss of her grandfather, she is forced to live on her own. She gets pregnant after giving herself to someone who she really thought cared for her but quickly found out he only wanted what made him happy and he ditched her immediately after his time with her. Finding a job at a Managed Motherhood, a facility like Planned Parenthood, she seeks advice from those she works with about what she should do with the baby. And I will admit, some of her co-workers were kind of weird to me, but probably not for the younger generation. There’s a lot going on in this book, many twists and turns that I won’t mention, because you really need to read the book!

Author Joel Ohman deals with probably the most controversial subject ever, which is abortion. I felt he handled the issues in a well thought out way, taking the feelings of the ladies that have an abortion into consideration. And I like that Mr. Ohman makes it clear that the woman doesn’t have the right to take the life of her baby. And that the woman’s body and the body within her is two separate bodies.  Which those today who are not pro-life do not believe. But I am truly pro-live. And though I’ve never had to even think about making that decision, I know people, as well as I’ve read about the struggles a woman goes through after having an abortion. This is why I feel the book is missing a very key issue here and that is the love and forgiveness Hattie could have found in Jesus. Instead it left readers hanging with all of her guilt and confusion. Maybe there is another book to follow that will give readers that view? We can hope so! Overall, if one person reading this book decides against giving her child up for abortion, the book will be worth it.

NIV, Maxwell Leadership Bible, 3rd Edition, Premium Bonded Leather, Burgundy, Comfort Print

5D11CD69-DE93-4AC4-983E-99B3C26563E5

Bible Description

Every believer is a person of influence. In the Maxwell Leadership Bible, leadership expert John C. Maxwell shows you the principles of leadership taught in God’s Word and how to use them. Whether you are an employee, a boss, a parent, or a neighbor, you are a person of influence in your part of the world. Throughout the pages of Scripture, John Maxwell has assembled the time-tested and irrefutable biblical principles of leadership to equip and encourage leaders with his signature approach, including the 21 Laws of Leadership, the 21 Qualities of a Leader, biographical profiles, and hundreds of notes.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BIBLE

Every Christian is a leader, really. In everything we do, we need to be leaders of God’s Word, and I believe this Leadership Bible can help teach us how to be that leader.

John Maxwell has taken the NIV version of the Bible and added his teaching notes on leadership to make up this Leadership Bible. The first two things that caught my eye were the 21 Laws of Leadership and the 21 Qualities of a Leader. He goes into full detail of both of these issues. Also there are many  biographical profiles that will give examples of leadership, as well as tons of study notes and verses that deal with leadership.

And I can’t leave out the looks of the Bible. It is a soft leather, burgundy with quality pages. It’s not a heavy Bible, the font is a comfort print, which I think may mean it is a little easier on the eyes that some of the smaller print bibles. It just has a nice look and a nice feel to it. I definitely think this would be Ann excellent addition to your Bible study tools. I highly recommend this Bible to everyone!

Make the most of your time reading, studying, and reflecting on Scripture with The Wiersbe Study Bible.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BIBLE

I wanted to review the hardcover edition of this Bible to see if was different from the leather like covers. They are pretty much the same, both having the amazing insights from Dr. Warren Wiersbe.

The hardcover has a beautiful dust jacket that looks like the cover. It’s a little heavy, but this is a Bible you will be using for Bible study so you probably won’t be carrying it a lot. The one thing I love about the Wiersbe Bible is all of the  lifetime of powerful teachings of Dr. Wiersbe. From his Back to the Bible radio broadcast to all of the amazing “BE Series”  gives readers and those who study the Bible hundreds and hundreds, and many more hundreds of Bible truths and promises taught by this amazing Bible teacher.

We all know there are so many Bibles and study Bibles out there today, but this is truly one you don’t want to miss out on. And this one being a hard cover with the beautiful dust jacket, it is a more affordable price than the leather ones. I highly recommend this bible to everyone!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

robin patchen

Aside from her family and her Savior, Robin Patchen has two loves—writing and traveling. If she could combine them, she’d spend a lot of time sitting in front of her laptop at sidewalk cafes and ski lodges and beachside burger joints. She’d visit every place in the entire world—twice, if possible—and craft stories and tell people about her Savior. Alas, time is too short and money is too scarce for Patchen to traipse all over the globe, even if her husband and kids wanted to go with her. So she stays in Oklahoma, shares the Good News when she can, and writes to illustrate the unending grace of God through the power and magic of story.

Grand Finale for DAUGHTERS OF NORTHERN SHORES by Joanne Bischof

Grand Finale for DAUGHTERS OF NORTHERN SHORES by Joanne Bischof

On Tour with Prism Book Tours
Book Tour Grand Finale for
Daughters of Northern Shores
By Joanne Bischof
We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops
you’ll find snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:

Launch – Note from the Author

…As I reflect on the beautiful land of Appalachia, and these beloved characters that first met readers within Sons of Blackbird Mountain, it’s my honor once again to tell an all new tale from this region: a place that’s rich in history and full of heart. It’s my prayer that this next novel will hold the same! It’s also my prayer that it will be a blessing to all of those who open the pages, meet the Norgaard family once again, and walk the rugged and redemptive path alongside them.

— Joanne

“Just know that this book is really good. . . . I may have cried a few times, but that’s a good sign that the author gets you emotionally invested in their story. Anxiously awaiting whatever Joanne Bischof brings us next!”

“This story is full, spiritual, and unique. . . Thor and Aven are memorable characters and their story will stay with you.

With themes of forgiveness and refinement, this story is sure to touch your heart and inspire you.”

Hallie Reads – Review & Excerpt

“The “lyrical writing, complex characterizations, and an exquisite, I-want-to-sink-into-this-story atmosphere” I found in the first book are equally present in Daughters of Northern Shores, and I heartily enjoyed it from beginning to end; it was a pleasure to journey with the Norgaards. I highly recommend it to readers of historical fiction…”

… the Virginia sun like melted gold through the treetops, brightening everything in its warm haze and piercing through the branches of the great maple overhead. A dance of light and childhood charm where nestled within the leaves sat the treehouse that had sheltered many an adventure for the Norgaard brothers.

While Aven’s climbing days were at a standstill, if she were to scale the makeshift ladder and settle against the rough trunk, she would see the three carved names. Jorgan. Thor. Haakon. Whittled into the living wood as boys when time and distance hadn’t changed them so. ’Twas just as well that she was land bound with child. She had no desire to see Haakon’s name, nor anything that reminded her of the man who had once been her friend but had proved himself anything but.

Heidi Reads… – Review

“The writing is beautiful and evocative, not flowery, but gently and subtly painting a picture of the setting, relationships, and growing tension as the Norgaard’s prepare again to fight for everything they hold dear. I loved seeing their family grow with the birth of Aven’s first child and Haaken’s unforgettable love. Highly recommend to fans of historical fiction and sweet romance!”

“This is a truly entrancing, at times poignant, saga. The brothers and the extended families is sure to “win one’s heart”. The story is told from shore to shore, yet smoothly flows and is easily followed by the reader.”

“Joanne Bischof has such an incredible ability to draw me right into her stories and feel as if I am actually there. All of my senses become alert and aware. It’s nuts. In the best of ways. Her characters feel solid, real. They pull on my emotions. . . . Haakon’s journey . . . . is a journey of healing, forgiving, proving and loving. . . . it was still so very good.”

“Daughters of Northern Shores is another outstanding epic by Joanne Bischof, one for my “best of the best” list, and impossible for me to adequately review with any words of mine. This novel is filled with exquisite romance, emotion, poignancy, suspense and adventure. Anything that Bischof writes is excellent, but for me, she shines best in Appalachian settings. . . . Very highly recommended.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Spotlight

Faithfully Bookish – Review & Guest Post

“Story after story, Bischof masterfully captures the work of the Maker’s hand in the essence of life’s fullness, depth, and frailty. . . . The Blackbird Mountain series is saturated with culture, knowledge, and awe-inspiring landscapes but it’s the heart of the stories that make these books unforgettable and precious. I cannot recommend these books highly enough.”

Titling a Novel

Whenever anyone mentions this book, I immediately reflect on how it was my most challenging novels to date. From the difficulties in penning the story, to trying to get a few of the characters to behave (I won’t mention any names [HAAKON!]) to coming up with just the right title – every phase was quite an adventure!…

Remembrancy – Review

“With a slow build focusing on the relationship dynamic amongst this group—from the brother’s to Thor and Aven to the friends surrounding them—the story is engaging . And that building leads to some intensity near the end of the book that keep it going. Bischof’s beautiful prose, immersing readers in the setting, conflicts, and suspense that draw me to her books time and again.”

“Just as touching and heartwarming as the first book, the reacquaintance of this sweet family is such an enjoyable read. . . . The setting and the characters are exceptional and you leave this book feeling as though you are leaving your friends.”

I have come to expect a story from the pen of Joanne Bischof to be one that slices straight to the heart with its truth and tenderness. Daughters of Northern Shores is no exception. With its return of beloved characters and a message of trust at its center, it is one I will cherish upon recalling (and REREADING!). . . . Daughters of Northern [S]hores is a novel to treasure and one to make you think of the impact just one person can have. It is an encouraging story that reminds the reader to hope when there is no clear path ahead. And, to hold family and friends dear, always extending grace.”

“I didn’t want Daughters of Northern Shores to ever end! . . . The characters in this book are some of my favorites ever, so I will absolutely go back to book one. They are so well-written that you miss them when you reach the end. I love the way that Joanne Bischof weaves themes of remorse, reconciliation and forgiveness throughout the story. Daughters of Northern Shores made me laugh, and it made me cry. Only the best books do that.”

Wishful Endings – Guest Post

From the Blackbird Mountain Kitchen: Apple Cider Soup

Within the Blackbird Mountain novels, the heart and soul of the Norgaard family home is Ida’s kitchen. A kitchen this former-slave now shares with her “daughters-in-law”, Fay and Aven. Fresh from the kitchen of these three women springs loaves of hot bread, jars of orchard-fresh apple butter, and hearty stews that the men help provide for from wild game in the surrounding woodlands….

“Daughters of Northern Shores by Joanne Bischof engaged my attention immediately and my interest continued throughout reading the novel. The author’s flowing prose is beautiful and it carries this tale through much brokenness, struggle, and healing. As with it’s predecessor, the character development is heart-deep and avoids simplifying difficult issues. The relationships between the Norgaard brothers are complex and rich. The epilogue was stunning, a truly perfect ending.

I highly recommend Daughters of Northern Shores by Joanne Bischof to anyone who loves deeply-layered fiction with complex issues and authentic characters.”

By The Book – Review

“Fans of Joanne Bischof’s Sons of Blackbird Mountain will not be disappointed in the return visit to the Norgaard family farm in Daughters of Northern Shores. . . . there is much, much more of the story left to told, and as always, Bischof does it with beautiful prose that sets the scene and reveals the fears, sorrows, hopes, and dreams of her characters. This book is another winner!”

Fiction Aficionado – Review & Excerpt

“…this story held me in its thrall from beginning to end. If you’re looking for a compelling family saga with well-developed characters, lyrical storytelling, and a whole lot of heart, I have no hesitation in recommending this series.”

…Haakon didn’t keep a journal. If he did, he would write that they’d hoisted sail and caught a breeze from west-southwest. A gust that was shouldering them away from southern Norway. He’d try to find the words to described how hard it was to see that shoreline grow fainter. If they lingered, they’d watch the birches begin to open their leaves. He was yet to see Norway in the summer and had only heard of its splendor.

The practical side of him would note that there were eight hundred tons of crystal ice in the hold bound for London. That’s if they survived the North Sea. If so, they would land in England four days from now.

It would take great effort to cap the inkwell then, but if he lost the battle with himself, he would add that it was getting harder and harder not to think of home.

Genesis 5020 – Review

“The setting for this book is beautiful and the I loved the character development of Thor and Aven. . . . I really had no idea what was going to happen or how things would play out and I think that is what I loved about it most of all.

If you enjoy historical romance that is more than that you will enjoy this book.”

Colorimetry – Guest Post

Setting Sail with the Prodigal Son

…At the very end of Sons of Blackbird Mountain, Haakon Norgaard sets sail on an all new adventure. One all his own. As the youngest of three brothers, it’s the first time he is ever outside of their shadow—a freedom he’s certain he’s ready for, yet many lessons and matters of the heart await him during Daughters of Northern Shores

Aven watched him through the window as he stood there, speaking to Sigurd, who was helping. In this moment, she could see a trace of the kindness she’d once known was in him.

“It be trust he need to earn, and that’s what sin does. Forgiveness . . . it pure and good, but it just the start of it. Offering one don’t mean the other be remedied as well. When a person be hurt, there need be a minding to both hope and sense.”

Uplifting Reads – Excerpt

While words were potent, a man’s caring ran through deeper waters. It dwelled right there in what he was willing to do. Haakon knew all too well that Peter had once taken a beating for Tess. A way to protect her from his own kin. If anyone was ready to face an uncertain future against Jed and Harlan, it was Peter.

Haakon belted his knife sheath around his hip. “Come an hour before dark.”

“I’ll be here.”

Peter ran a rough hand up and down his forearm, chafing at an old scar. “I also came to tell you that my sister . . . Sibby . . . She’s married.”

“I was so happy to be back at Blackbird Mountain. The setting, the characters, the plot lines – I could go on and on. Joanne Bischof has created a beautiful series here, with a lovely picture of forgiveness – something we could all learn from. Highly recommend reading this book, but make sure you read Sons of Blackbird Mountain first!”

The air inside was dim and stagnant. Ripe with the scent of musty wood. A fresh leak had blossomed in the far corner, and sunlight hadn’t been kind to the curtains hanging on the windows. Aven stepped to them and fingered a hem just as she’d done when Haakon had stood beside her. He’d raised the curtain rod into place, giving her that boyish smile as he did. Just before the back of his hand had touched her arm. A coaxing—a pleading—for her to choose him.

A would-be lover who had lost her to Thor, losing his own way in the aftermath.

With a shuddering breath, Aven set the map on a wobbly table and turned away. Not wanting to linger, she stepped out and bolted the door before pressing the key back from sight.

The Becca Files – Review

“…I was more intrigued with Haakon’s character. In the first book he was easily my least favorite character, but I appreciated seeing him mature more in this story and express genuine remorse for the actions in his past. . . . I still consider it worth the read.”

“Ms. Bischof manages to always find the right words to elicit the heartaches and pain of the characters, painting a picture with words one of the best examples of showing rather than telling. . . . Daughters of Northern Shores is an appalachian epic of family, the bonds of blood, the ties of friendship, anchors of love, and the human condition. . . . Highly recommend, and an absolute must read if you enjoyed Sons of Blackbird Mountain.”

“Daughters of Northern Shores is so well-written that the Norgaard’s Appalachian farm comes to life with beautiful descriptions the reader can see and smell vividly. Filled with the type of rich historical details, my history-loving, nerd girl heart was filled to the brim. The author’s beautiful prose sing like the melody of a well-written symphony and will leave you desperately wanting more from this writer and the story world she has created for us.”

Locks, Hooks and Books – Review & Guest Post

“Daughters of the Northern Shores is a powerful story of forgiveness and grace. It is full of faith and inspiration. I know so many readers will relate to the characters and will find that it is okay to forgive yourself and move on.”

Pinterest Story Boards for a Historical Romance

One of my favorite aspects of the writing process is storyboarding. There’s something about an image that can bring a scene or character to life in my mind. For both Sons of Blackbird Mountain and Daughters of Northern Shores, I created two boards for each novel—one private and one public…

“Daughters of Northern Shores was a beautiful, captivating tale that, once again, reminded me of how much I love the characters from this series. . . . The author does such an amazing job of writing in a beautiful style that captures the pace of life on the mountain. I loved seeing what was happening in all of the brothers’ lives and witnessing again the deep love between Thor and Aven. This book left me feeling a deep happiness as I turned the last page.”

“This series is #unputdownable and is going to stay inside your heart long after you put down the pages you’ve just read. Her characters are as real as any of us and their story is such a realistic account of life being lived through grace and leant on faith it is a refreshing glimpse into the past with a bridge of hope for our futures.”

Among the Reads – Review & Guest Post

“Daughters of Northern Shores is a riveting continuation of the story of the Norgaard family of Blackbird Mountain that was difficult to put down. . . . I was again swept away as author Joanne Bischof poured out her heart on these pages with tender and hopeful melancholy. . . . Daughters of Northern Shores is a story of changed lives, of love of family, of good versus evil, and of forgiveness. Though I classify it as a romance, it is so much more…”

A Heroine and Her Home

Having grown up within a workhouse in Ireland in the late 1800’s, Aven Norgaard, one of the heroines of the Blackbird Mountain novels, has never known open spanses and freedom. Now, having voyaged to rural Virginia, she’s discovered a whole new world of wonders. While her days in this new and rugged land are far from easy, they’re rich with blessings that she savors with her whole heart. And now as the bride of one of the men of this mountain, a Deaf cider-maker by name of Thor Norgaard, she’s discovering all new facets of life only once dreamed of…

“With Daughters or Northern Shores, be prepared for heavy emotions, heavy thoughts, heavy situations, but know there’s a steadfast hope and quiet beauty in each one. I still feel as though I haven’t accurately captured this book with my words, but I’ve done the best I can, and I hope you’ll take the time to read it for yourself and find the beauty in it.”

“Daughters of the Northern Shores was everything I was hoping it would be and more. The characters were raw and real, the bond of brotherhood was inspiring, the themes of grace and forgiveness were beautiful, and the deep trust they all had in God through their trials is something I hope to have. . . . this book was absolutely amazing.”

Daughters of Northern Shores
(Blackbird Mountain #2)
By Joanne Bischof
Christian Historical Romance
Paperback & ebook, 368 Pages
March 12th 2019 by Thomas Nelson

“The Norgaard brothers and their families will steal your heart.” —Catherine West, author of Where Hope Begins

Heartache and regret, boldness and sacrifice. What will restoration cost the beloved Norgaard family?

Aven Norgaard understands courage. Orphaned within an Irish workhouse, then widowed at just nineteen, she voyaged to America where she was wooed and wed by Thor Norgaard, a Deaf man in rural Appalachia. That the Lord saw her along the winding journey and that Aven now carries Thor’s child are blessings beyond measure. Yet while Thor holds her heart, it is his younger brother and rival who haunts her memories. Haakon—whose selfish choices shattered her trust in him.

Having fled the farm after trying to take Aven as his own, Haakon sails on the North Atlantic ice trade where his soul is plagued with regrets that distance cannot heal. Not even the beautiful Norwegian woman he’s pursued can ease the torment. When the winds bear him home after four years away, Haakon finds the family on the brink of tragedy. A decades-old feud with the neighboring farm has wrenched them into the fiercest confrontation on Blackbird Mountain since the Civil War. Haakon’s cunning and strength hold the power to seal many fates, including Thor’s which is already at stake through a grave illness brought to him as the first prick of warfare.

Now Haakon faces the hardest choice of his life. One that shapes a battlefield where pride must be broken enough to be restored, and where a prodigal son may finally know the healing peace of surrender and the boundless gift of forgiveness. And when it comes to the woman he left behind in Norway, he just might discover that while his heart belongs to a daughter of the north, she’s been awaiting him on shores more distant than the land he’s fighting for.

From Christy Award–winning author Joanne Bischof comes Daughters of Northern Shores: the highly anticipated sequel to her moving novel Sons of Blackbird Mountain.

A Tale of Family, Brotherhood, and the Healing Power of Love

After the tragic death of her husband, Aven Norgaard is beckoned to give up her life in Norway to become a housekeeper in the rugged hills of Nineteenth-Century Appalachia. Upon arrival, she finds herself in the home of her late husband’s cousins—three brothers who make a living by brewing hard cider on their three-hundred acre farm. Yet even as a stranger in a foreign land, Aven has hope to build a new life in this tight-knit family.

But her unassuming beauty disrupts the bond between the brothers. The youngest two both desire her hand, and Aven is caught in the middle, unsure where—and whether—to offer her affection. While Haakon is bold and passionate, it is Thor who casts the greatest spell upon her. Though Deaf, mute, and dependent on hard drink to cope with his silent pain, Thor possesses a sobering strength.

As autumn ushers in the apple harvest, the rift between Thor and Haakon deepens and Aven faces a choice that risks hearts. Will two brothers’ longing for her quiet spirit tear apart a family? Can she find a tender belonging in this remote, rugged, and unfamiliar world?

A haunting tale of struggle and redemption, Sons of Blackbird Mountain is a portrait of grace in a world where the broken may find new life through the healing mercy of love.

Harper Cloud used to love the gilded glamour of Las Vegas, but on the far side of prison, she sees the cracks in the veneer. She’s trusted men before, andlook where that got her.

She tries to brush off the feeling that she’s being watched. She won’t allow a baseless paranoia to derail her life. But when she’s followed home one night, her pursuer gets within a hair’s breadth of grabbing her. She knows it’s time to get away from Las Vegas.

Maybe Derrick can be trusted. Maybe his job offer—to care for his aging grandfather in Maryland—will be the second chance she needs.

But Derrick has secrets of his own, secrets that could take him down–and take Harper with him.

Can there be a second chance for someone like her?

Right now, he acted as if she were his lifeline. He called her every night before bed and again on his way to work every morning. Flew to Vegas to visit her every chance he got.

“You’re my anchor,” he’d told her. “My salvation.”

The words worried her. She could barely take care of herself. How could she be another person’s salvation?

And what did he need to be saved from?

Joshua’s Mission by Vannetta Chapman

Joshua’s Mission

Joshua's Mission

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Product details

  • Series: Plain and Simple Miracles (Book 2)
  • Paperback: 352 pages
  • Publisher: Harvest House Publishers (February 1, 2016)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0736956050
  • ISBN-13: 978-07369560

Joshua’s Mission is a new standalone novel in the Plain and Simple Miracles collection from popular author Vannetta Chapman. These stories of love and family and Amish community in Oklahoma tell of the miracles that can happen when lives are lived in service to God and to one another.

Joshua Kline travels from his farm in Oklahoma to offer aid to an Englisch town on the gulf coast of Texas after a category 4 hurricane has ravaged the area. He brings his brother with him, who needs a change of environment. The last thing he wants for Alton is another brush with the law. He is pleasantly surprised when he hears that Becca Troyer, the bishop’s granddaughter, plans on joining their team.
What will Joshua find when he arrives in Texas? A lack of electricity, certainly, which poses little problem for the Amish volunteers as they help restore order from destruction. But a budding romance? A call from God? And a possible healing of his relationship with Alton?
Joshua’s Mission is a story of love, forgiveness, and the grace of God that carries us through even the worst situations.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Vannetta Chapman writes another amazing Amish story that is so heartwarming, I really wanted to be a part of this book. When Joshua decides to go to Texas to help out with the Englischers who lost so much in the destruction of a horrible hurricane, he never expected all that would happen on this trip. Having his younger brother with him will be a challenge, since he has been getting in to so much trouble at home.

I love the way Ms. Chapman weaves together Amish and Englisch, clearly showing that there is not a lot of difference in the troubles and hardships between the two. Of course the Amish don’t drive, or have electricity in their homes, but that really made the stay in Texas much better with the Amish than those Englishcher were dealing with it. It was fun and interesting reading about them all working together as one group.

And I notice several people mentioning the fact that we shouldn’t be so quick to judge. I’m getting much better at not judging a person by the way they look. Sometimes we miss out on getting to know some wonderful people just because we kinda shun them because they don’t look and act like

we do. I appreciate Ms. Chapman for sending this strong message.

I can go on and on about this book, but you need to read it for yourself and find out what an amazing story this is. Joshua’s Mission is one book that is a keeper for me, so I can read the entire series together. I highly recommend this book for you to read.

Hearts Inn Harmony by Beth Wiseman

Book Description

They both love music. Will God deny what brings them such joy?

Musical prodigy Levi Shetler hasn’t touched a piano since he secretly played one years ago. His strict Amish community forbids instruments or the singing of any music not in their approved songbook. Levi asks God often why music tempts him when playing an instrument isn’t allowed in his world.

One person knows Levi’s talents: Mary Hershberger, the girl who promised years ago to keep his secret. Mary comes from a more liberal district than Levi, but she’s facing family troubles of her own. The mutual care for an aging Englischer, Adeline, reunites Mary and Levi as young adults. They realize that, despite their differences, they have a shared love of music—and a shared confusion about whether their talents are God-given gifts or temptations luring them into the Englisch world.

The couple realizes they must compromise or part ways, but a tragic accident shakes their decision. Both Mary and Levi will need to reconcile what they love with what their hearts say is right—because even as their passion for music brings them together, it could be what tears them apart.

The first novel in the new Amish Journeys series by bestselling author Beth Wiseman, Hearts in Harmony explores how far the heart will travel for the melody of love.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is the first book in the series and I absolutely loved it! Beth Wiseman is among the top of my favorite Amish Authors and this is one of her best. I loved the main characters, Mary and Levi, Natalie and Adeline. I felt like these were my family. I can’t wait to see what Ms Wiseman has next for us.

Wow, this is a beautiful Bible! It’s a small Bible, the dementions being 5×1.4×7.4. Just the right size for carrying in your purse! The description says comfort print and the print is sharp and easy to read. But it is very small print, 6.5 print size. But for younger people that have no problems with small print, this would make a beautiful for the Bride in your family. The red letters are nice because you can know that Jesus said these words Himself.
