MY RATING: FIVE STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If only owning a bookstore didn’t mean dealing with people.

No one was more surprised than Harper Brevig when Great Aunt Lorene (not “Lori,” thank-you-very-much) died and left her least favorite niece her bookstore–including a prime piece of real estate in downtown Red Wing, Minnesota.

Making a go of the place shouldn’t be too hard. With her library science degree, she should be set. Then again, the website describing library degrees had said it would teach her excellent communication skills. It had not. Could she get a partial refund?

Still, owning the building should mean crazy-low overhead to offset her less than optimal “book-side” manner.  Ahem. So when yet another huge bill arrives, and she starts getting twitchy about the low bank balance, Harper does the only thing she can think of.

Enter Milton Coleridge. He’d been excited about the possibilities of the store last year, but Harper had sent him packing before he could talk to her about them. Now he has a chance to make a difference. But she’s right. She’s bleeding money, and it doesn’t make sense!

Milton’s job is to figure out what’s going on, plug the financial leak, and maybe… do a little matchmaking. That dad with the adorable little boy would be good for her… and she’d be good for him. Probably.

About the Author

USA Today Bestselling author Chautona Havig lives in an oxymoron, escapes into imaginary worlds that look startlingly similar to ours and writes the stories that emerge. An irrepressible optimist, Chautona sees everything through a kaleidoscope of It’s a Wonderful Life sprinkled with fairy tales. Find her at chautona.com and say howdy—if you can remember how to spell her name.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

When Harper Brevig’s Aunt Lorene passed away, she left her bookstore to Harper, which surprised Harper very much because she was her least favorite niece. But she did have a degree that should help her in running the store. But as Harper continues each month to make ends meet, that profit is just not adding up. What is she to do.

Twice Sold Tales is such a fun book to read. And I love, love the title. What a great name for a bookstore! I love the little town of Red Wing, Minnesota. It has the most fascinating and interesting people. But the main thing is the love they have for others. Harper is a wonderful character, and my heart melted at her love for Bennie. Noah is adorable and is too hard on himself. But maybe Harper can help with that? Both Bennie and Noah stole my heart from the beginning. Author Chautona Havig created the best of the best characters for this story. I could relate to the small town and its people because I grew up in one, and the people were very much like those in Red Wing. The romance between Noah and Harper, well it was so slow you wonder if there is one. But keep reading. I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series. I has to be good! I’m giving Twice Sold Tales Five Stars!

More from Chautona

“What kind of research does a contemporary book need? I mean, she’s a bookstore owner in a town you’ve been to several times. What’s there to research?”

I can’t be the only author to get questions like this. And I certainly can’t be the only one who has to fight the urge to laugh. Folks, authors research everything. In Twice Sold Tales, I think I looked up almost as much as I did in my Meddlin’ Madeline Mysteries!

Because here’s the deal. What I didn’t know about Red Wing, Minnesota wouldn’t have hurt the story most of the time. Who cares that Bev’s Café has amazing creamy cucumbers? It doesn’t technically matter. Well, except to my character who hates veggies but will eat those. They make her feel virtuous. And you get to know about it.

But… what you discover about a place or a time or an occupation or whatever can totally change the course of your story. Case in point? I went to a website about River City Days because my niece suggested it might be a good thing for Noah to do with his son. That led me to the Farmer’s Markets and to other things. How I got to the first Ghost Walk in Red Wing taking place this year? I don’t even know. What I do know is that the moment I read about it, I knew Harper had to go. And if she did, and if Milton were the instigator, Noah had to go. #BecauseMatchmaker.

And this is where it got really cool. To make the walk as authentic as I could, I read everything I could find about it. And I discovered something super cool. Like… blow you out of the water cool.

Red Wing, Minnesota sits near the shore of Lake Pepin. Little House on the Prairie lovers will remember this as the lake that Laura Ingalls crossed in the wagon as they left the Big Woods of Wisconsin (you know, right across the river/lake from Red Wing???) Well… Lake Pepin has a monster—the Nessie of the Mississippi. Yes, you read that right… a monster! I went looking and guess what? The “monster” has a name. Pepie! Needless to say, Pepie became a an important part of my story. Because how could he not?

And… I happened to find a stuffed Pepie at Treats & Treasures in Lake City, just south of Red Wing, so I ordered a couple for giveaways—including the one with this blog tour. Happy reading, and what do you think? Shouldn’t someone write Pepie’s story?

Finding The Right Fit

As a first time children’s book author, I knew I wanted to get it right. The right words. The right illustrations. The right publishing route. The right marketing plan. But as a newbie, I knew that would be a tall order.

From the beginning, I needed to check my eagerness and excitability at the door if I was to truly create a quality story worthy of such investments. From writing, rewriting, editing, beta testing, more beta testing, and critique grouping before I even signed my publishing deal and passed my book baby along to a professional editing desk, I was feeling pretty confident by the time we stamped the FINAL approval for the manuscript.

I not only felt confident in the story and characters, but also in the overall concept, and my goal to create a meaningful series and book materials to support parents, teachers, and ultimately, our kids.

But what came next was equally as daunting – finding an illustrator. For a picture book I know it comes as no surprise to imagine the illustrations being as important, if not more, than the words themselves. And having a somewhat picky and particular style in mind, I imagined finding “the one” would be like finding your wedding dress. When you know, you know.

And know, I did. Not only was she one of countless portfolios that I’d flipped through that immediately caught my attention, but I also quickly found myself falling in love with each of her pieces and her overall style. It was kind of like the cherry (or veil) on top when I realized she was also right down the road. Out of amazing illustrators from around the world, I happened upon one that was also here in Texas. One that I felt could perfectly capture the rolling hills of our setting’s farm house, and the peculiar personalities of our slew of animals that I dreamed being depicted throughout the series.

And just as imagined, with some patience and pickiness, my crazy story idea came out to be a perfectly published book. Which just so happens to be written, illustrated, and printed here in Texas. My little piece of home is now ready to travel the world.

Blooming Rose Blasts Off is illustrated by the amazing Kristen Humphrey.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love this adorable book inside and out. Your child will learn many valuable lessons as you read this book to them. They are sure to have fun looking at the beautiful pictures throughout.

Rose does perfectly well when it comes to writing, drawing and playing, but when she is given a completely different project, what is she to do? With help from her friends and dad, along with encouragement from her classmates, Rose is comfortable with her project, even though it isn’t perfect. I like that this author chose to have Rose’s project less than perfect. This teaches children they only need to do their best, even though it is not perfect, and that sometimes it takes a few times to do something to achieve your goal.

Kristen Humphrey does a splendid job with the illustrations, inside and on the cover. Children will love the sweet characters and the beautiful purple colors throughout the book. The author includes many things for those wanting to home school, or to use as lesson plans for school or home learning.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

BLOOMING ROSE BLASTS OFF! by Lauren Piland

Meet the Author:

As a former second grade and elementary art teacher, Lauren Piland is a Louisiana native turned Texas homesteader who knows the importance of engaging read-alouds both in class and at home. After taking a step back from the classroom to raise her second child, she realized the gap some campuses face between the undersupported emotional struggles of students and the overwhelming responsibilities of teachers. “When we can use tools such as books and relatable characters to open up those more meaningful conversations, both at home and in the classroom, it aids in that process of peeling back layers of getting to know each other better and building trust,” says Piland. “Children need to feel seen, feel heard, and feel protected. And we do that by tapping into our emotions.”

Piland also wanted to further support teachers by including ready-to-use, curriculum-based exercises to go along with each book that focus on learning objectives such as reading comprehension strategies, vocabulary building and word mechanics exercises, writing prompts, whole group projects and STEM exercises with differentiated versions for students in Pre-K all the way to fourth grade.

January 9-February 3, 2023 Virtual Book Tour

Synopsis:

Dark of Night by Colleen Coble cover

The law is about justice—not grace. But perhaps ranger Annie Pederson can find a way to have both.

As if the last few months haven’t been hard enough—complete with threats on her life and the return of her first love, Jon—Annie has to figure out whether or not to believe a woman who claims to be her sister, Sarah, who was abducted twenty-four years ago at age five. Annie’s eight-year-old daughter, Kylie, has plenty of questions about what’s going on in her mother’s life—but there are some stones Annie doesn’t want uncovered.

As Annie grapples with how to heal the gulf between her and her would-be sister and make room in her daughter’s life for Jon, she’s professionally distracted by the case of yet another missing hiker in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. A woman named Michelle Fraser has now been abducted, and though the woman’s estranged husband is at the top of their suspect list, Annie and her colleagues will need to dig deeper and determine whether these recent mysteries are truly as unrelated as they seem.

In this second novel of bestselling author Colleen Coble’s latest romantic-suspense series, Annie and Jon must fight for the future—and the family—that could once more be theirs.

Read an excerpt:

Chapter 1

Should she even be out here alone? Michigan’s U.P. was a whole lotta wilderness. Michelle Fraser’s shoulder blades gave a tingle and made her glance back to see if anyone was following her. No one there. But in spite of seeing no movement in the trees and bushes, she couldn’t discount her gut instinct. She’d been spooked ever since she left the safety of the women’s shelter.

Maybe it was just knowing she was out here with no backup that had her on edge.

The heavy scent of rain hung in the twilight air as she set the last of her wildlife cameras in the crook of a large sugar maple tree. A northern flying squirrel chattered a warning from its nest. The glaucomys sabrinus’s agitation made Michelle pull away in time to avoid being nipped.

Thunder rumbled in the distance, and a spooky mist blew through the forest. The sooner she was out of here, the better. Her last set of cameras hadn’t turned up the elusive mountain lions she’d been searching for, but a hunter in neighboring Ontonagon County had snapped a picture of a large male reclining on a rock. If she could acquire more data, it would aid her research for the magazine article proving mountain lions inhabited the area. And she had to have pictures.

She’d been obsessed with big cats for as long as she could remember. Even the various names held a fascinating mystique: catamount, puma, cougar, mountain lion, panther.

A mosquito landed on her arm, and she swatted it. Her hands came away with a drop of blood on her fingers. Yuck. She wiped the residue on her khaki shorts and turned to go back to her ATV. A sound erupted to her right, and it sounded like either a puma or a woman’s scream. The hair on her neck prickled, and she moved that way.

The scream pealed again, and she removed the lens cap on the camera slung around her neck. Her palms dampened, and her breath came fast. Walking toward danger might not be the smartest thing, but Michelle couldn’t help herself. She yearned to see a puma in the wild in all its power and beauty. Her knees shook as she pulled out a bullhorn from her backpack to frighten away the cat if it sensed her as prey.

Queen pumas would be protecting their litters in June, so she needed to be careful. Her lungs labored as she rushed in that direction. Her black belt in jujitsu wouldn’t do much against the speed and power of a puma. She seized a large branch to make herself seem bigger as she advanced through the forest. Evergreen needles clawed at her arms as she forced her way through a thick stand of white pine.

She paused on the other side and caught the glimmer of water. Lake Superior’s waves lapped at the rocky shore, and she spotted a yellow kayak riding the swells in the shallow surf. A discarded backpack bobbed beside it.

Her sense of unease grew as she observed the scene. Glancing around, she approached the water and snagged the backpack from the lake, then pulled the kayak onto the rocks. Her gut told her someone was in trouble.

Should she call out? If it was wildlife threatening the woman she thought she’d heard, Michelle could scare it off with a flare. But if the attacker was human, she didn’t want to give away her presence and put the woman in greater danger. She scanned the area for bear or cougar scat but found nothing.

The sound of oars slapping the water came from her left, and she ducked back into the shadow of the pines until she could tell the intent of the boaters. Two figures partially shrouded in mist paddled a large canoe around a rocky finger of the shore. The glimpse of broad shoulders through the fog indicated they were probably men. She strained to listen through the sound of the wind and water but couldn’t hear much.

She couldn’t put her finger on why she didn’t want them to see her. Maybe because they were men, and Brandon might have sent them after her.

“I know she ran this way. Trying to get to her kayak, eh.” The man’s heavy Yooper accent carried well over the water.

“Can’t see her through this mist,” the other man said. “I don’t know why I let you talk me into this. Your love life isn’t my business.”

“You owe me. Let’s try on down the shore. There’s a deer trail toward the road she might have tried to take.”

Their voices faded as their canoe moved past. She didn’t get a good look at their faces. Was a woman out there trying to escape an abusive ex? Michelle had seen plenty of that kind of trauma this past year and had experienced abuse personally.

Once they were out of sight, she stepped back into the clearing. “Hello,” she called softly. “Is anyone here? I can help you.”

She walked across the green mossy clearing, searching for a sign of an injured woman. The bushes to her left shivered and rustled, and she stepped closer. “Hello? Do you need help?”

The leaves parted as the mist swirled along the ground, and the pale oval of a woman’s face emerged. Long blonde hair hung in strings along her cheeks, and her eyelids fluttered as though she might faint. Michelle rushed forward and helped the young woman to her feet. She was in her early twenties with a slight build. Mud smeared her khaki shorts and red top, and she was barefoot.

She seemed familiar, and Michelle reached down to touch her forehead. She nearly recoiled at the heat radiating from the young woman. “Wait, aren’t you Grace Mitchell?”

They’d met when Grace first arrived at the shelter, but Michelle hadn’t immediately recognized her with the mud and dirt on her face and hair. The woman’s fever alarmed Michelle. “You’re burning up. We need to get you to a doctor.”

“I-I’ll be fine. Do you have some way out of here?”

“My ATV is this way.” Michelle put her right arm around the woman’s waist and helped her stumble toward the trail. “What are you doing out here?”

Grace paused and wiped the beads of perspiration from her forehead. “I spotted my ex driving past the shelter, and I knew he’d found me. That day we met, you mentioned a remote area you liked with a great camping spot, and I decided to try to find it. You know, hide out until I figured out where to go to get away from Roy. But I stopped by to get camping gear from my parents, and he must have followed me here. He’s out there somewhere. He and a buddy.” Her blue eyes flashed with fear. “I can’t let him find me.”

They reached the ATV, and Michelle got Grace situated, but it was a tight squeeze on the vehicle meant for one person. Michelle got water out of her backpack and helped Grace drink some. She grabbed her phone, too, and took a quick photo of the traumatized girl before she dropped it back into the pack.

Michelle started the machine and pulled out onto the trail back to the cabin where she’d been hiding out. She should have gotten out of here earlier since the weather had caused darkness to fall sooner than expected. It would be slow going on the rough trail with only the headlamps pushing the darkness back a short distance.

After only a few minutes, Michelle realized she’d gotten off the trail. She stopped the machine and looked around. Which way should she go? She consulted her compass and decided to push due west. They’d only gone a few feet when the ground gave out under the machine, and they went flying into the air. When Michelle hit the ground, something in her right leg snapped, and the excruciating pain was instantaneous.

She bit back a scream but couldn’t stop the moan as she pulled her knee to her chest. The swelling was already starting four inches above her ankle, but at least it didn’t appear to be a compound fracture. “I-I’ve broken my leg. Are you all right, Grace?”

When Grace didn’t answer, Michelle felt along the ground until she touched her thigh. “Grace?” She felt up the young woman’s body to her face.

Grace wasn’t breathing. “Oh no,” Michelle whispered. She checked her out in the dark as best as she could. No pulse.

Michelle dragged herself to the machine but it was on its side, and she couldn’t right it with her broken leg. No one would be searching for her out here, so she had to find shelter. But how?

The pain made it hard to think. She froze at the sound of movement in the vegetation. Something big was crashing toward her. A deer? A mountain lion or bear?

A man’s shoulders moved into sight, and his expression sent shivers up her spine. When he reached down to lift her up, the pain intensified in her leg, and her vision went black.

///

Law enforcement ranger Annie Pederson sat at a table by herself in the small interrogation room at the Rock Harbor jail and waited for Taylor Moore to be brought in for questioning. Maybe it was Annie’s imagination, but it seemed as if the beige paint on the walls reeked with the guilt and despair of countless years of interrogations. Even the clean scent of the disinfectant used in the area didn’t dissipate the unpleasantness. She didn’t like this space and wished she could have talked to Taylor at the coffee shop or somewhere more pleasant.

But this meeting might be the end of her lifelong search, so she would have faced even tigers in this place.

The door opened and Taylor entered. Several weeks ago Annie had hired her to help out around the Tremolo Marina and Cabin Resort and with Annie’s eight-year-old daughter, but the woman had been picked up for questioning about the necklace found belonging to a murdered girl. Her claim to be Annie’s sister, Sarah—kidnapped from Tremolo Island twenty-four years ago—had turned Annie’s every thought on its head. According to Taylor’s ID, she was twenty-nine, three years younger than Annie, so that detail matched Sarah.

Annie’s heart squeezed at Taylor’s ducked head and stringy locks. The bright-red hair dye was fading, and glints of her natural blonde color showed through. Her jeans and tee looked like she’d slept in them for days, and the scent of stale perspiration wafted from her.

Taylor glanced up, and Annie bit back a gasp at the defiance gleaming in those vivid blue eyes that matched Annie’s eye color instead of the muddy brown Annie was used to. Jon Dunstan had claimed Taylor was wearing contacts to change her eye color, and it seemed he was right.

Annie had prided herself on her ability to read people in her line of work. She’d always thought she could detect a liar with no problem. Taylor had completely snowed her. After Taylor’s impeccable references, Annie had trusted the woman with her child.

Sheriff Mason Kaleva ambled in behind Taylor. He gestured to the chair across the table from Annie. “Have a seat, Ms. Moore.”

In his forties, his husky form brought solace to Annie. He’d always been there for her and his town, and his kind brown eyes swept over her in a questioning gaze. She gave him a little nod to let him know she was okay.

Taylor’s eyes narrowed. “It’s Ms. Vitanen. Sarah Vitanen.”

A wave of dizziness washed over Annie, and she bit her lip and eyed Taylor closely. “You claim to be my sister, but do you have any proof?”

The chair screeched on the tile floor as Taylor pulled it out before she plopped onto it. “I should have expected you wouldn’t welcome me with open arms. After all, you did nothing to stop my abduction.”

Heat swept up Annie’s neck and lodged in her cheeks. “What could an eight-year-old do to stop an adult? If you’re really Sarah, what was the name of your favorite stuffed animal?”

“Cocoa,” Taylor said without hesitation. “It was a brown kitten. I couldn’t have a real one because Mom was allergic.”

Annie’s eyes widened. She caught her breath as she studied the other woman across the table. “Let me see your left knee.”

Rebellion flashed in Taylor’s blue eyes, and she leaned down to yank up her baggy jeans, then stood with her tanned knee exposed. A faded two-inch scar just below her kneecap matched the one in Annie’s memory. Sarah had gotten snagged on a large metal hook under the dock at the marina. It had taken fifteen stitches to close the wound, and Annie had helped her sister hobble around for several weeks.

But was that proof? Kids had scars from all sorts of things. She wanted to believe her sister was still alive, but was Taylor really Sarah?

Her breath eased from her lips, and Annie couldn’t speak for a long moment. “You really believe you’re Sarah? Did you research all that and make sure the details matched?”

Taylor just stared back at her with that same defiance. In Annie’s dreams, finding Sarah meant a tight embrace and happy tears, but Taylor’s stance with her arms folded across her chest and her jutting chin warned Annie off any displays of affection. Not that she was feeling any warmth toward the other woman in this moment.

When the other woman plopped back in her chair and didn’t answer, Annie licked her lips. “Why didn’t you tell me when you first showed up looking for work? Why the fake name? I’ve been searching for my sister for years.”

“Have you? Have you really?”

Annie glanced at Mason. “Ask him if you don’t believe me.”

Mason shifted his bulky form and nodded. “I’ve been helping Annie search. We’ve sent DNA samples numerous times over the past ten years. Her parents searched for Sarah, and even hired investigators, until their deaths.”

Annie hadn’t known that. Her parents’ business, the Tremolo Marina and Cabin Resort, operated on a shoestring, so they must have taken much needed money to try to find Sarah.

Annie shifted her gaze back to the woman across the table. Taylor twisted a strand of hair around her finger in a coil. Sarah used to do that too. If this was a scam, it was an elaborate one. With all her heart Annie wanted to believe it, but she couldn’t quite accept it. It was so sudden, and the circumstances were bizarre.

Mason cleared his throat. “We’ll need a little more proof. We can get the DNA back in a week or so.”

“I have nothing to hide,” the other woman said.

Annie had spent twenty-four years agonizing over her failure to save Sarah. The guilt had nearly swallowed her alive, though everyone told her she couldn’t have done anything. Until a few days ago, she hadn’t been able to recall much about that awful night. Maybe she hadn’t wanted to remember how she froze in fear when the kidnapper grabbed Sarah.

Annie fingered the scar on her neck where the attacker had wounded her with a knife. She’d been left for dead in the cold waters of Lake Superior, and while logically she knew she was no match for the gruff woman who’d snatched her sister, Annie had struggled to believe it.

“Were any of the things you told me about your life true? Those things you said about your m-mother?”

“I had a rotten life, if that’s what you’re asking. All those things I said about my mother were true. And it was all your fault.”

There was nothing Annie could say to counter that when her own conscience condemned her too. She was only too glad when her boss, Kade Matthews, texted her with a new case. Mason could continue the questioning about the necklace.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Colleen Coble has done it again! It this second book in the Annie Peterson Series, is another heart-stopping, nail biting, edge of seat suspense that you simply cannot put down once you start reading. There is so much going on in this book it’s hard to catch your breath at times. I will say with this series, it’s better to read the books in order because each book starts right after the other one ends. Again, there is a missing hiker in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The ladies husband is a top suspect, but some things uncovered just don’t add up. Annie has to deal with the lady claiming to be her long ago abducted sister, Sarah, but things just don’t pan out there either. And who is the weird person following Annie, and why? And there’s more, but this is enough to spike your interest.

Wow! When I finished reading this book Wow is  all I could say for a while. I had to sit there for a while and run everything through my mind again! This is definitely a series I am going to read again, as soon as book three releases.
It was interesting to get the take from several different characters, some searching for those who are lost, and the ones who are lost waiting and hoping they would soon be found. A little confusing? Yeah I know but that’s part of the good stuff! And all throughout this amazing read I had to stop and go back a few pages and re-read them again, sometimes I had to go way back to make sure I was getting all of the good stuff correct, but that’s what I love about reading a book that is so good. The authors spend their time with research, going on trips to find the best information to make the the book just right, and I want to make sure I get all of the nitty-gritty stuff they have for us. And it’s so much fun. To be honest, my head was spinning so much by the time I finished the story, I just sat there in awe, thinking about the story. Oh and the romance! There is sweet romance flowing through the story that brings you down off your high for a moment at times. Such sweet romance.

If you love suspense, especially with a thread of romance flowing through, Colleen Coble is the author to go to. Check out Dark of Night now! You will not be disappointed. I encourage you to check out Cobles other books as well. You will love them all!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Popular podcaster and ex-reporter Faith Byrne made a name for herself telling stories of greatness after tragedy–but her real life does not mirror the stories she tells. While her daughters spend the summer in Hawaii with her ex-husband and his new wife, she must manage life on her own. All of that changes when she’s asked to spotlight her childhood best friend’s missing person case on her podcast.

Dora Crane has never accepted that her younger daughter could be dead, keeping her home looking the same as when her daughter disappeared. But when her husband leaves her and her older daughter intervenes, she agrees to counseling and to pack up her missing daughter’s belongings under one condition: Faith Byrne comes to Deep Valley and sheds light on the cold case.

As the long-abandoned investigation moves forward, old wounds and long-buried secrets are exposed. Will these two women, whose lives have never been the same, finally get the answers they need to reconcile the past and the future?

“This heartbreaking story will keep you guessing–and hoping–with the turn of every redemptive page.”–ERIN BARTELS, award-winning author of The Girl Who Could Breathe Under Water

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

When I saw the beautiful and intriguing cover of What Happens Next by Christina Suzann Nelson, I knew I had to have it. I love choosing books by their beautiful cover, and I picked a winner with this one.

What Happen Next is told through the eyes of Dora: Heather’s mom, Heather: Dora’s daughter and Faith: Heather’s best friend. Faith and Heather were pretty much inseparable in the summer of 1987, and after Faith’s family moves in with her grandma. When the summer was about over, Faith’s family moved, she and Heather did not communicate anymore.

Being a Podcaster in her adult life brought a familiar person into Faith’s life one day, Heather’s sister, asking Faith to shed light about her sisters disappearance decades ago. No one told Faith, so of course she was very shocked. She struggled much with the decision, but decided to do her part and help find her best friend.

Wow! What a story! Probably halfway through the book, Nelson drops a hint that gave me the jitters, and I couldn’t put the book down after that. Dora and her family have been grieving Heather’s disappearance all this time. Dora was turning her family away because she couldn’t stop grieving the loss of her daughter. Could she still be alive? So many questions. And not one answer. I don’t go to the end of books to get answers, so I had to speed read the last half of the book, I was having a fit to know what happened. So I’ll read this book again, here very soon, much slower so I don’t miss anything. It is too good not to give it another try. This was my first book by Christina Suzann Nelson, and boy, am I glad I chose it to review. Nelson’s writing is phenomenal. She is able to capture true feelings of the wonderful characters she created. The story has such a realistic feeling, and the characters are spot on. Nelson does a fantastic job of going from the excitement of the 1987 summer to the excruciating grief in Dora, to the sadness, to the disappointments, and to the acceptance and peace in the characters. Emotions were running every which way in this wonderful story. I felt like this was real family and friends I was reading about. I enjoyed the subtle touch of romance between Nate and Faith, which gave a warm, loving feeling. This is a book you dont want to miss. It’s Christian fiction, so it’s clean. Check out What Happens Next by Christina Suzann Nelson, you will be very glad you did! What Happen Next is getting Five plus stars from me. I’d love to give it more.

Book Description:One night, Jesus caught Jeannine up in the most vivid dream of her life. In this dream, He flew her around the world and revealed how His presence is like the river of God. Studying the river of God will compel you to spend time with Him, where you will find the answers to all the “whats?” and the “whys?” and the “hows?” and the “what-ifs?” you’ve been asking. You will discover in His presence the best inspiration for life.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

In The River of God’s Presence, Jeannine Rodriguez-Everard tell the story of how God came to her in a dream, flying her around to  revealed to her how His presence is like the river of God. They flew over all of the rivers in the world. On all of the Bible Jesus revealed to her how the rivers in Scripture can metaphorically depict what happens in God’s presence and how Jesus invites us to commune with Him.

This is a beautiful book and a nicely written book. I enjoyed reading Jeannine’s book and her encounters with God. Talking about the rivers and how they are connected to God. I have never heard this before and found it interesting. I will have to say, I’m not sure I am on the same page as Jeannine about all of this information but I did enjoy reading this book. I encourage you to check the book out. And while reading it, and if you are interested in the rivers, no matter your relationship with Him, ask God to enlighten you about the topic, and I believe he will show you the truth about His creation.

For the Love of Faith by Tricia McGill

For the Love of Faith
by Tricia McGill

~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:  Historical Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

At almost seventeen Faith Boswell knows little about the world beyond the lodging house in Ballarat owned by her widowed mother. The mining town of Ballarat in 1860 is populated by those seeking to get rich by finding gold, so their residents are mostly miners on their way to the diggings with high hopes of finding this highly treasured substance. Sadly, Faith’s Ma is not the easiest person to get along with and Faith often wonders just why her mother is so bitter.

Things start to change unexpectedly one day when a stranger appears at the door of their home—a gentleman who mysteriously seems to know a lot about Faith’s Ma, her past life, plus Faith herself. Faith fears that her mother has been lying to her all her life. From that day Faith’s life takes a turn, perhaps for the better. One long-term lodger is a widow who unexpectedly presents Faith with an unusual birthday gift. This gift causes uproar which plays a large part in Faith’s life from them onwards.

Because Faith knows little about life outside of her sheltered existence, she is unable to fathom if handsome Walter Finch, son of the nearby store owners, has real feelings for her or is simply being kind. Faith is soon to find out just how willing he is to help her as she sets out on a new and scary phase in her life.

Excerpt Three:

Walt was in the process of working on one of Matilda’s hooves. He was stripped to the waist and in the moment before he looked up and saw Faith, she admired his strong body. Seldom had she seen a half-naked man except for the natives who chose to go around part clothed. In fact, the only time was when one of the miners ran through town waving his discarded shirt in his glee at finding a nugget of gold.

“You have a nice voice,” she said, knowing her voice came out huskily. With a small cough she quickly added, “I hope I have not caught you when you are very busy.”

Reaching for his shirt which he pulled on slowly, he laughed. “Never too busy for you, Faith. I am about ready for a rest.” Stroking the mare’s neck, he told her to continue with whatever was in her manger, and beckoned Faith to a bench. “Come sit here. No one will bother us, and it is cooler here inside. It is warming up as we near Yuletide.”

Feeling ridiculously shy, she sat and straightened her skirt over her knees. “As I told you, I have a decision to make, and I hoped you could help me to sort out my jumbled thoughts.”

“I will do my best—but I am just a simple bloke so don’t expect me to solve any difficult dilemmas you might have.” This was followed by a chuckle.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

For the Love of Faith is the first book I have read by author Tricia McGill, and I am glad I could enjoy this romance read. Faith and her mother live in a lodging house in the mining town of Ballarat. The year is 1860, and most people staying in their lodging house are those digging for gold, hoping to get rich, so the ladies were able to make ends meet. Faith didn’t know a lot about what was happening outside of the lodge. Her grouchy and bitter mom had her working too much and didn’t let her go out, but this all changed when a stranger came to town. The interesting thing is that he and Faith’s mom knew each other from the past. And from then on, Faith’s life was turned upside down.

For the Love of Faith is very well written, and the characters were well created, and I found that they developed well in the story. I felt bad for Faith because her mom had kept her hidden from their little part of the world. There are a lot of secrets that changed Faith and her mom’s life. I like Walter Finch. He really liked Faith, and he found an intriguing and exciting way to let her know.

If you enjoy mining towns and the enjoyment of finding out what the guys found on their mining trips, you will love this book. And since there is a hefty dose of romance floating through the story, it makes it even more exciting. I encourage you to run out and grab a copy of this book. You will not be disappointed!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love, love Lulu and Malek Sail Off to Sea! by June Foster and Rob Scheer. When Lulu and Malek make their way to the ocean to meet whale, I thought they would play in the ocean, but they spent time making the beach look beautiful by cleaning it up first. This is an excellent way to teach children to clean up wherever they are first, before playing. The three animals had fun the rest of the day playing in the ocean.

Gill Guile does a fantastic job with the illustrations. I love the beautiful vibrant colors inside and on the cover of the book. This beautiful book is great for reading to a classroom or to your children. With the words of the story on each page fitting thebeautiful illustrations so well, the children will love following along with the pictures. I love that kids that are not old enough to read can read the story by the pictures. I encourage you to check out this sweet book for your child’s library. It is also perfect for any elementary school library as well as daycare classrooms.

Interview with the author, Dr. Joelle Suel – Stepping Stones

1. What tactics do you have when writing? Do you just sit down and start writing? Or have an outline plan before?

I enjoy free writing to find inspiration for a book, or anytime I feel stuck. An outline plan follows, which helps me stay on track. It guides the scheduled writing sessions I set using the free pomodoro app. It allows me to set up 45 minutes of uninterrupted sessions to focus on one section at a time. My goal is to set up an average of 7 of these a week.

2. What do you hope readers will take away from this story?

The one take-away from this book I hope readers will gain is that they can accomplish whatever they set their heart on, from faith to faith.

3. If I review one of your books, what do you want to read from me?

If you review one of my books, I would enjoy reading whatever you have written. I love reading.

4. Do you read your book reviews? And how do they influence your writing?

Yes. I read and appreciate book reviews. They help and encourage me in my writing journey.

5. As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

As a child, I wanted to be a teacher.

More from Dr. Joelle

Dear reader,

God loves us and counts us precious in His sight. We are full-time ministers wherever we are, and through whatever we do. Where our feet stand is where our pulpit stands. We shine the light of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and glorify Him, often without realizing it. God desires to use all of us in and through our daily activities.

My prayer is that this book will encourage and empower you to answer His call, from faith to faith. I trust the Spirit of God will strengthen you to continue what you are currently doing and lead you into additional steps in your divine purpose.

Below, please find a few quotes from the book to bless you today.

He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.–1Thessalonians 5:24 NKJV

Abundant blessings upon you and your family,

Dr. Joelle

Tour and Giveaway On My Honor by Patty Smith Hall

About the Book

Book: On My Honor

Author:Patty Smith Hall

Genre: Christian / Historical Fiction / Romance / Intrigue

Release date: January, 2023

Ginny Mathis was finished with nursing school and had no intention of staying rooted in the Outer Banks—then war broke out. With her father away, she feels duty-bound to stay and help her mother and younger sister. While working as a clerk for the Oregon Inlet ferry, naval officers ask Ginny and others to be watchful for German U-boats reportedly spotted in the area. So to help occupy her teenage sister, Ginny enlists the Girl Scout troop she leads to help watch for suspicious activity along the coast.

Timothy Elliott is no stranger to death. As a British reporter working with the M-6, he’s numb to the losses of war after two years of fighting the Germans. Maybe that’s why he volunteered for this mission—to connect with an ex-German naval officer who stole the Furor’s battle plan for the Atlantic war. When the boat giving him passage to New York is bombed near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Tim is thrown from the boat and wakes up in the care of a group of young girls.

Ginny follows her sneaky sister on a clandestine mission and discovers the shipwreck victim. Ginny knows she must take charge, but is this man the enemy, or does he hold secrets that could turn the tide of the Battle of the Atlantic in the allies’ favor?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Upon finishing nursing school, Ginny Mathis decides to stay in the Outer Banks. Her mother and sister need help after the war breaks out, and she will be there for them. Timothy Elliott is a British reporter working with the M-6, and has seen more death and war than he wants to see. On the way to is new mission, there is a bombing, and Tim is injured. Will he survive another horrific time in this horrible war?

I love Patty Hall Smith’s books, and this one was very exciting, but not always in a good way. I’ve added this to my favorite Patty Hall Smith’s books. I was glad when Ginny and her girls found Tim after he was stranded. I found it interesting following the sisters and their interactions with Tim. And I can’t leave out the girl scout group Ginny formed with her sister and friends. This group was beyond interesting and humorous and just the right fit for this story. You will love this WWII story, especially if you have followed along with the series from Barbour books. I learned a lot about WWII and the effects it had on North Carolina and the Outer Banks area. There were also interesting and intriguing facts about the girl scouts, and the was as well that I had no idea about. I’m glad I read this book for several reasons, but mainly to learn a little more about our country. Give this book a try. You will be glad you did.

About the Author

Multi-published author Patty Smith Hall lives near the North Georgia Mountains with her husband, Danny. When she’s not writing on her back porch, she’s spending time with her family or working in her vegetable garden.

More from Patty

Did you know that the Girl Scouts (or Girl Guides) serviced as spies on HIs Majesty’s Secret Service during World War One? I didn’t either until I picked up a book on female spies at my local Barnes and Noble. There were only two paragraphs about how the girls worked with the MI5 for the duration of the war. It was enough to get my heart pumping!

Being a former Girl Scout myself, I was amazed at what these young girls did to help our country during the war. What activities did the Girl Scouts/Girl Guides do in World War II? Anything asked of them. They organized drives for anything from fat (to make bullets) to paper, stepped into positions left vacant by men serving on the front and worked Victory gardens to provide food for their community. They did so many things, I can’t begin to name them all here. By March 1944, the Girl Scouts had provided over 15 million volunteer hours toward the war effort.

Isn’t that amazing? No wonder I had to write a book about them!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The Empowered Woman: The Ultimate Roadmap to Business Success by Marta Spirk is a nicely written book to help women have a better look and understanding of herself. It’s great for the lady that lacks self-confidence and self-worth. Spirk uses a Five step roadmap to help others succeed in anything they want to do.

Has life through you for a loop and shattered your world? Has living with pain got you down, or maybe your home life or your job has you at a standstill. I encourage you to pick up a copy of this little book. Its a very short book which is good because it gives you plenty of time to stop and think about what you have read. If you are at a place that you need help to change what you are doing, I don’t hesitate to encourage you to pick up this book and read through it. I’m sure you will be a different person for reading it.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

An exciting Interview with the author

What is your next project?

As I was wrapping up the editing for The Empowered Woman, I realized why authors write several books: I had so much more to say that didn’t fit the scope and focus of that book. One thing that my editor was adamant about cutting off was getting into detail about marketing and messaging. This has become such a passion of mine, but I needed to lay the foundation of inner work first. I believe my next project will focus more on finding your angle and voice through your life’s story and purpose to grow your influence, impact and brand as an entrepreneur. For now, though, I see myself publishing The Empowered Woman in a couple other languages before that. First, in Portuguese, of course, and then maybe in French and Spanish.

What genre do you write and why?

I write non-fiction with a focus on self-improvement. After discovering the world of personal development, I started having glimpses of doing something similar, but with my own principles and framework. Although there are many books in this genre, I realized I could add one more, with MY voice, MY story and MY lens. You may find a similar message elsewhere, but you will never find the same.

If you’re a mom writer, how do you balance your time?

I started writing The Empowered Woman during the pandemic when my triplets had to come home from preschool. Needless to say I felt overwhelmed and decided to hire a ghostwriter to help me. I ended up recording voice clips on each of my chapters and had her write them out. Nowadays, when it comes to writing content for my business and clients, I pace myself while the kids are in school or self-entertained.

If you were stuck on a deserted island, which 3 books would you want with you?

The Bible because it could keep me entertained for a while besides being a timeless reference guide for anything in life.

Napoleon Hill’s Outwitting the Devil because I see it as a beautiful merge of biblical principles and self-improvement work.

Either a Human Design gates guide or Gene Keys guide. I’ve become obsessed with the overlap of Human Design and my life’s purpose found in faith as well as the overlap between Human Design and Gene Keys.

In your book you state that you didn’t feel the luxury to learn to be a mom as you went, you had to learn fast because it was triplets….why is that?

I believe the impossibility of my situation presented me with two options: remain in overwhelm or decide to take control of myself. I have been making every effort to choose the latter. Being outnumbered as a first-time-mom invited me to be resourceful in so many ways and one of them was to focus on the very source that would be caring for those babies: myself. I also had the opportunity to expand on this in my TEDx talk titled: The Transformational Power of Defeat.

Meet the Author:

Born and raised in Brazil to an entrepreneur dad and a pastor mom, Marta Spirk demonstrated an interest for the English language and American culture very early on and began teaching English at fourteen.

She went on to get bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English, became a certified court interpreter, and married an American she met at a church conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

After the surprise and blessing of triplets in 2016, Marta found a passion for encouraging and empowering women as she learned to encourage and empower herself through the challenges of adult (and triplet) life.

In 2020, her dream of becoming a US Citizen finally came true, and her coaching business grew exponentially. She now serves thousands of entrepreneurs, helping them to stop spinning their wheels by trying random personal development resources and finally learn to boost confidence and grow their business by looking at their most valuable resource: themselves!

Meanwhile, Laura Mayfield, her wealthy birth mother who is battling an illness that might take her life, began searching for her long-lost daughter. Secretly plotting against Laura is her gold-digging husband Dylan (John Schneider). Dylan knows that if Katie is found, he will no longer inherit Laura’s fortune. With the help and prayers of her Christian housekeeper (Chonda Pierce), Laura hopes to foil Dylan’s plan and be reunited with her daughter.

MY THOUGHTS

Hi Friends, I have a real treat for you! Beverly Lewis’ Amish Book, The Confession is coming to a theater near you February 20, 2023. The professionally filmed stage production releases in theaters on February 20th only. Mark your calendars and check back here next week for a review of this movie. With Chonda Pierce and John Schneider in the lineup, you know it’s going to be a fun hilarious time for you and your family.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE CCONFESSION

Based on the multi-million selling book series written by Beverly Lewis and written for the stage by Emmy-Nominated screenwriter Martha Bolton, The Confession tells the story of Amish Family in turmoil when their daughter, Katie Lapp, discovers she was adopted by an Englisher (not Amish) woman. Meanwhile, the woman, Laura Mayfield, heir to a vast fortune and on her death bed, is searching for her lost daughter to bequest her the estate. Standing between her is her gold-digging husband Dylan (played by John Schneider), who is plotting to claim the fortune for himself with the help of a hired imposter pretending to be the long-lost daughter.

While the story is dramatic, writer Martha Bolton sprinkles in humor, mostly from award-winning comedian Chonda Pierce as the maid and internationally renowned British comedian Colin Hearn as the English Butler. The music is powerful under the direction of multiple Grammy nominated Dan Posthuma and songwriter Wally Nason. . And the screen is filled with spectacular visuals using twenty actors and dancers and one of the largest LED screens in the country.

Uncover the message between God, humanity, and you.

📜MY REVIEW OF The Text Bible📜
#TEXTBibleMIN #MomentumInfluencerNetwork

I am reviewing a different kind of Bible today. I first I thought it was like in texting people, but it has four main points that are:

TEXT the Text: use the four-step TEXT study method:
Talk to God;
Encounter God and humanity;
eXamine your heart;
Talk to others—to engage with Scripture

I find this a wonderful way for Tweens and Teens to study their Bibles. The questions and answers are short. So that makes it easy enough. Also off to the sides in the outside margins you will find lots of interesting stuff that you may or may not know. This is there to help you in your Bible Study. If you are using a Journal or paper, you may want to write these down in case this question is ask at some point. You will have it already if you jot it down.

I encourage you to read through this review, as well as the other things on the page to see if this is something that will be fun for you. And if you already have a Bible or study Bible, it’s perfectly ok to have several Bibles when you study, especially if it is different translations. This one is the New English Translation.

Also there is a giveaway for this Bible as well. Scroll down to the bottom of my page and leave a message. But do it before January 20,2023.
