About

With love and loss tangled together, how was she to know where her life would lead?

Allie Kirkland has always heard the call of her father’s unfinished destiny. When she’s offered a production assistant’s job on a docudrama filming in the hills near Moses Lake, Texas, the dream of following in her director-father’s footsteps suddenly seems within reach. The reenactment of the legendary frontier settlement of Wildwood is a first step into the film industry. A summer on set in the wilderness is a small price to pay for a dream.

But in 1861, the real Wildwood held dangerous realities. Town founder Harland Delavan held helpless residents, including young Irish schoolteacher Bonnie Rose, in an iron grip. Mysterious disappearances led to myths and legends still retold in the region’s folk songs. Eventually, the entire site was found abandoned.

When filming begins, strange connections surface between Allie and the teacher who disappeared over a century ago, and everyone in Wildwood–including Blake Fulton, Allie’s handsome neighbor on the film set–seems to be hiding secrets. Allie doesn’t know whom she can trust. If she can’t find the answers in time, history may repeat itself…with the most unthinkable results.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I have read a number of Lisa Wingate’s books and I have enjoyed then a lot. And this one is just as enjoyable. It is a little different in that even though the stories take place in the same setting, it is about Allie who is current and Bonnie who lives back in the 1800s. This was fun to read about, with the stories parallel to each other, yet much the same. The historical part was interesting because we get to see the historical Moses Lake. The story was also about many secrets that have been a part of this town. How will the people react? What will happen to the town when the secrets surface. This is the reason you need to read this book. You will enjoy each unique character and journey with them as they develop throughout the story. If you love a sweet little quaint town story, this one is for you.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Mallory Hale never expected her life to change so much when she married Daniel and moved to Moses Lake. She was use to a high profile life, living in upscale places, and was shocked at the house provided for their family by Jack West. But she adjusted as well as she could, but it was evident that something was going on and she was determined to find out just what and who was responsible for it.

This is a wonderful book all the way around! I really love this entire series! Mallory is such a unique and awesomely strong lady. The adjusment to the differences in lifestyle that Mallory encountered shows the person she really is. The characters are realistic and so believable, I felt like I was living in the story with them! And I love the community of Moses Lake and its wonderful people and laidback lifestyle. Truly a place where people really care for one another. I highly recommend Firefly Island, as well as the first two books in the Moses Lake Series.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Will Mallory ever get use to living at Moses Lake? She’s lived in the most amazing places, and a ranch house in this remote area, a house that use to me a hunter’s cabin is not what she expected when she and her new husband arrived at Moses Lake for her new husband to start his new job with Jake West. And Jake West is another issue, Mallory just does not trust him at all, something is going on with him, and Mallory always gets an uneasy feeling when she is around him. What will happen with Mallory and her new husband Danies and Daniel’s small child Nick as their life goes on in this new home for them?

This is such a sweet heartwarming book, but yet Mallory and Daniel have their differences and issues. I really felt for Mallory as she tried to fix up the house they were given to live. All of those critters in there would be the downfall of me! The way Mallory handled all of the difficult situations shows just how strong she is, because she was able to take care of her new step-son, Nick and make the house liveable for her family. I found it neat and heartwarming the way the people of Moses Lake snuck their way into Mallory’s heart and she begin to love them, wanting to do whatever she could to help them.

Firefly Island is the third book in The Shores of Moses Lake Series, and I have thoroughly enjoyed each of the three books. I love the small community and the people, and Ms. Wingate did a wonderful job of making me as a reader feel as though I was living the story with the characters. If you are looking for a wonderful series of books to read, I strongly encourage you to pick up a copy to enjoy for yourself.

About the book

After surviving the worst year of her life, Andrea Henderson moves home to sleepy little Moses Lake, Texas, to recover her shattered faith and build a new life for herself and her son.

Game Warden Mart McClendon finds himself in Moses Lake for a different reason: to forget a tragedy for which he can’t forgive himself.
But when a mysterious little girl is suddenly seen with the town recluse, these two unlikely allies are drawn together in a search for her identity. As wounded pasts collide, will their quest bring the redemption and hope they need–or consequences neither of them expected?

My Review

The small town of Moses Lake, Texas is such a sweet, pleasant place to live. It reminds me of the small community I grew up in, only without the lake. But we did have the Country Store, the group that sat around the old stove in the winter and on the front porch when the weather was warm, and also the neighbors and friends that were willing to pitch in and help whoever needed it.

Andrea and her son moved to Larkspur Cove to live in her parent’s lake house after her divorce. Mart moved to Moses Lake to hide from the difficult times after losing his brother and niece. Neither wanted a relationship, neither wanted to bring up the past. But when circumstances drew them together, everything started to change. Can Andrea let go of her past divorce, and be comfortable letting Mart in her life, as well as her son’s life? And can Mart overcome the hurt and grief of losing his family members?  I really like the chemistry between Mart and Andrea throughout the book. It makes you just want t keep reading, and cheering them on!

I loved the characters, Pop Dorsey and his daughter Shelia at the Waterbird Bait and Grocery, those who hung out at the little store playing checkers and such, Andrea’s co-workers, and especially Len and Birdie.  I grew to really love Len, and his love for Birdie warmed my heart. The way he took her in, doing the best he knew how to take care of her, the way she showed her love for him was something we don’t see often in our lives. I loved seeing the community pulled together to help, fixing up his house, cleaning, painting, and whatever needed doing. The way they helped with Birdie’s school clothes and supplies, and other ways just to keep Social Services from taking her.

I love how Lisa Wingate shows what can happen when we find the best in people instead of judging. And also the examples she gave us of how God is working in our lives, even when we think He has forgotten us and the difficult things we are going through.

The only complaint I have about this book is that it ended too soon! But I did find out that the sequel to Larkspur Cove….Blue Moon Bay is coming out in February 2012. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
