About the Book

Book: The Thief of Lanwyn Manor

Author: Sarah E. Ladd

Genre: Regency Romance

Release Date: January 7, 2020

Thief-of-Lanwyn-Manor-672x1024In this sweet Regency romance, Julia knows Matthew Blake, copper mine owner and very eligible bachelor, is the gentleman she should set her eyes upon. But why can’t she steal her gaze away from his younger brother, Isaac?

Cornwall, England 1818—Julia Twethewey needs a diversion to mend her broken heart, so when her cousin invites her to Lanwyn Manor, Julia eagerly accepts. Lanwyn Manor is at the heart of Cornwall’s mining industry, and as a guest Julia is swept into its intricate world. It’s not long, though, before she realizes something dark lurks in the home’s ancient halls.

As a respected mine owner’s younger son, Isaac Blake is determined to keep his late father’s legacy alive through the family business, despite his brother’s careless attitude. In order to save their livelihood—and the livelihood of those around them—the brothers approach the master of Lanwyn Manor with plans to bolster the floundering local industry. Isaac can’t deny his attraction to the man’s charming niece, but his brother has made his intentions to court the lovely guest clear. And Isaac knows his place.

When tragedy strikes, mysteries arise, and items go missing, Julia and Isaac find they are pulled together in a swirl of strange circumstances, but despite their own best efforts to bow to social expectations, their hearts aren’t so keen to surrender.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Another amazing read from author Sarah E. Ladd! I love stories set in England and the setting for this one is Cornwall, England. The Blake brothers are an interesting duo, as different as night and day. They kinda grew on me as the story unfolded, but they did keep things interesting.

And then there is Julia Twethewey, wanting to get away from a failed relationship, and a broken heart. When her cousin ask Julia to come help her during a difficult pregnancy, she is more than happy to help. But she wasn’t expecting to learn so much about her extended family.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Thief of Lanwyn Manor. The cast of characters are so realistic, and as the story unfolds, I love how the characters developed so well. Another amazing thing for me was the vivid details of each scene, making Cornwall, England come alive before my eyes as I read each page. There is so much to say about this story, with just the right amount of mystery, drama, romance and suspense, that the twist and turns happening will keep you turning the pages until the end. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a nice clean entertaining and enjoyable read. And especially those who love historical fiction.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Cecily Faire carries the shame of her past wherever she treads, Nathaniel Stanton has a secret of his own. Two people, two different secrets, both wanting desperately to guard those secrets, for fear of what would happen. Cecily was a really sweet young lady with a horrible and sad past, because of bad decisions on her part, and because of a dad who just didn’t care. Nathaniel was a very complex person, keeping to himself, but doing the best job he could at Willowgrove Hall, despite the rudeness of its mistress. This is one off those stories that is difficult to read because life is just not fair to either Cecily or Nathaniel. But with that said, I love, loved this story. I thoroughly enjoyed Sarah Ladd’s first two books in this series, but this one was my favorite of the three! The difficult situations faced by the two main characters will have readers engulfed in the pages of this book to see what the outcome is! The characters are so very believable, and the scenes so real, after I finished the book I thought of these characters as real people. I couldn’t get the out of my mind. Cecily and Nathaniel’s story is one that can be enjoyed by anyone, especially if you enjoy historical fiction. The Darbury, England, 1819 setting and the vivid descriptions of each scene takes you there in a real imaginable way. I encourage you to pick up a copy of this book to enjoy for yourself.

Bright, sensible Patience knows what is expected of her. At twenty-five, her opportunity for a family of her own has passed, so she invests herself in teaching at her father’s school for girls. When debtors start calling, he is desperate to find a new source of income, even if it means sacrificing Rosemere.

When a fire threatens the school grounds, William must decide to what lengths he is willing to go to protect his birthright. And when Patience’s brother returns with a new wife to take over management of the school, Patience suddenly finds herself unsure of her calling. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

In The Headmistress of Rosemere!  Patience was a sweet lady who put others are their needs and wants before her own. She is left running the girls school after the death of her fathers because her mother has taken to her room and is no help at all, and her brothers ran off to London after the funeral and no one has heard a thing from him in six months. And then he makes an appearance on in their driveway, with a few shockingly surprises for Patience, uproaring the world she knows.

I loved reading this book! The characters are intriguing and interesting, and the story is heartwarming at times, and frustrating at times! Patience was such a selfless and loving person, but when her brother shows up, he is entirely different. I didn’t like the way he treated Patience, acting like her taking care of the girls school for six months along meant nothing at all to him. He truly acted like a spoiled brat, and since her father left her brother in charge, Patience had to listed to him. And then there was William Sterling, a mysterious man who was attracted to Patience, and she to him, but there was no way she could ever think of having a life with someone of his stance in life. But spending time with him sure made the attraction such that she had many thoughts and dreams about the man! I was really wanting life to change for these two so they could get together, but was that too much to hope for? Read this wonderful book and you will find all of the answers.

I highly recommend The Headmistress of Rosemere for those who enjoy historical fiction, or maybe those just wanting a good, clean and fun Christian fiction to read. ABOUT THIS BOOK

Pride goes before the fall . . . but what comes after?

Darbury, England, 1814

Amelia Barrett gave her word. Keeping it could cost her everything. An heiress to an estate nestled in the English moors, defies family expectations and promises to raise her dying friend’s baby. She’ll risk everything to keep her word—even to the point of proposing to the child’s father—a sea captain she’s never met.

When the child vanishes with little more than an ominous ransom note hinting at her whereabouts, Amelia and Graham are driven to test the boundaries of their love for this little one.

Amelia’s detailed plans would normally see her through any trial, but now, desperate and shaken, she’s forced to examine her soul and face her one weakness: pride.

Graham’s strength and self-control have served him well and earned him much respect, but chasing perfection has kept him a prisoner of his own discipline. And away from the family he has sworn to love and protect.

Both must learn to have faith and relinquish control so they can embrace the future ahead of them.

MY THOUGHTS

Sarah Ladd weaves together a wonderful engaging historical fiction. Amelia and Graham find themselves in an awkward situation and seemingly the only way out was an even more awkward situation, marry each other, even though they are strangers. And as we follow their journey we see how much their struggle with doubt, pride, uncertainty as well as trusting the Lord for their difficult situations. I appreciate how Sarah Ladd weaves faith in the Lord into the lives of these characters to show how God can work in our lives, even when we think our situation is impossible. For me some of the situations were difficult to read, but the outcome was wonderful! I highly recommend The Heiress of Winterwood by Sarah Ladd for your reading enjoyment. And this is an amazing debut novel for this author! I will certainly be watching for more from Sarah Ladd in the future.
