ABOUT EMERALD COTTAGE

She’s sweet & cozy mysteries. He’s fun & cozy flings.
Till a deadly secret reveals not-so-cozy things.

Twenty-five-year-old Molly Stewart—ex-Navy nurse and former evidence technician for the Charleston Police Department—has been burned by love. So when her friend, Pastor Chase Griffin, begs her to move to scenic Lake Loon to be a nurse and companion for Miss Lilly, his elderly landlady, she jumps at the chance. The secluded and cozy cottage on a clear mountain lake seems the perfect place to heal from her fiancé’s betrayal as well as indulge in one of her greatest passions—cozy romance. First with reading them by the bookcase and then hopefully, if dreams come true, writing and solving them one day as an author and detective. But when Miss Lilly’s estranged great nephew shows up, it’s no mystery as to why he and Molly butt heads. Because it only takes one stolen kiss—while she’s sleeping, no less—to discover he’s an even bigger player than the ex-fiancé who broke her heart.

When international playboy and Irish soccer star Brec McGill learns his long-lost great aunt is in a coma from a drowning accident, he rushes to her side. Not only is he anxious to reconnect with his only living relative he spent summers with as a boy, but her cottage on Lake Loon, Georgia is the perfect respite to heal from game injuries and escape a tabloid scandal. At thirty-three he’s disillusioned with the game, his fiancée, and life in general, craving nothing but a little peace and solitude to get his head on straight. But when he discovers his aunt’s cottage is not only inhabited by a crusty Aunt Lilly he hasn’t seen in years, but a pretty prude of a nurse as well, his plans take a nose-dive in the lake. Because suddenly it appears not only was Aunt Lilly’s accident no accident … but somebody out there wants to see them all dead.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Wow! We all know Julie Lessman as writing heart stopping passionate Christian romance, and now she writes a sweet but intriguing cozy mystery with so many twists and turns you will be guessing whodunit throughout the entire book. Lessman nails it with her first Cozy mystery and I am looking forward to more just like this one from her. I think Sloan needs his own story, right? This cast of realistic characters quickly stole my heart. Of course Miss Lilly is my favorite, with Molly and Brec not far behind, and they had me laughing quite a bit. I was so excited to find characters from The Isle of Hope series in this story as well. I love that series so much. I love and appreciate the way Julie weaves the Christian life in the lives of her characters and the scripture she uses were ones I needed to hear. I also like the way she writes into the story intimate relationships after marriage. But there is romance here. Lots of it. And passionate it is, after all it is a Julie Lessman book and she knows her stuff when it comes to kissing and cuddling. And it is so nice to be able to read a sweet passionate romance that is clean!

I was hoping Molly and Brec would be an item, but Brec has so much baggage, will he ever be the man Molly needs? And then there is Sloan, a Christian and perfect gentleman. And in the mix there is still someone out there murdering people and it seems as though they have their eyes set on Emerald Cottage and Miss Lilly and Molly. Are their lives at risk? There’s a lot of action going on in this story and there is no way to even touch on it all here, so you really need to read the book to find out what happens with these characters. And if you have read a Julie Lessman book, this is a great one to start with and you are certainly in for a treat. And you Cozy mystery lovers out there. This one is for you. The Secret of Emerald Cottage truly is a 50% suspense and 50% romance story, which is so amazing I give it Five Stars and I wish I could give it more.

A Gift Like No Other By Julie Lessman

A Gift Like No Other

ABOUT THIS BOOK

WARNING: Due to a subject matter that deals with marital problems, please be advised that this sweet inspirational novella contains a higher level of romantic passion.

Her dream is writing.
His is the perfect wife and mother.
Until God fulfills them both
with a dream like no other.

Twelve years ago, Faith O’Connor happily gave up her dream as a copywriter to become a wife and mother, clinging to her husband’s promise she could return someday. But when the opportunity arises to write for the Boston Herald again two days a week, her dream hits a snag … along with her marriage.

To Collin McGuire, family is everything because he never really had one of his own. Raised by a father who died early and a mother who didn’t care, Collin is determined to give his children the very best with a full-time mother. But when he denies Faith her dream, he soon discovers he’s denied his own as well … until Christmas day brings a healing through a gift like no other.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Another sweet Romance from one of my very favorite Romance writers. As avid readers of Ms. Lessman’s books, we all know the passion she has in all of her books, and this one is very passionate. Collin and Faith were experiencing marriage problems, it is the 1930’s and Collin strongly believes in women staying at home raising their children instead of working, but Faith is just as determined that she work. And Collin is not a happy husband.

These two well developed, head strong characters had me both laughing and crying as Collin and Faith have the fight of all fights in their 17 years of marriage. And following their mistakes, discussions for help, and their kids asking what is wrong, Ms. Lessman does a fantastic job of weaving the problems together with scripture on what the Bible says about their issues. This story shows that even the couples everyone may think has a perfect marriage, have problems and sometimes major ones. And it takes a lot of prayer, support and trusting God to fix the issues. And though this is a wonderful book for married couples, I do not recommend it for those who are not married, whether it be couples or single. See Julie’s note at the  beginning of this review.

A big thank you to Julie Lessman for a copy of this book, and for inviting me to join this tour. I love this sweet author as well as her books. If you have never read a book by Ms. Lessman, I highly recommend any of her books, and you can start with this one!

Grace Like Rain by Julie Lessman

About This Book

A lovable rogue.
A wary secretary.
Caught in a downpour of love.

Blake “The Rake” McClare has a notorious reputation as a womanizer, which is why soft-spoken Patience Peabody carefully avoids the lovable rogue attorney at the law firm in which they both work. Until a rare thunderstorm brings them together in a love soaked with the grace of God … and sparked with more than a little lightning!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

From the longest book, to the shortest Novella, the passion in author Julie Lessman’s books grab you and keeps you glued to the pages until you finish the story. And that’s just the way Grace Like Rain was for me. Blake McClare worked in his uncles law office by day, and by night his second home was the local bar and women. An answer to his mother and sisters prayers, Blake finally notices the young lady working as a legal secretary for the law firm.

Patience Grace Peabody was pretty shy, but she was also strong enough in her faith in the Lord to push Blake as far away as she could. No way would she get involved with a man of his reputation. But Blake is a persistent man. Who will win the tug of war between these two characters?

What a beautiful story of God’s love and redemption! I fell in love with these two characters as they shared their muffins and coffee, with a hint cinnamon, in the very early hours when they arrived at the office. I love that Patience held her ground with Blake, taking a stab at his ego by not giving in to his charm. She was truly an answer to the prayers Blake’s family and friends have been praying for him for so long. I love so much about this book, but don’t want to spoil it for anyone so I won’t tell anything more about the story.

If you love a good clean romance and haven’t read any of Julie Lessman’s books, you are missing out on a wonderful treat. You can feel the passion she pours in each story. Her passion involves so much. Her passion for romance, for her readers, for family, and mostly for her God is so strong it pours into the hearts of those who read her books.

Surprised by Love by Julie Lessman, From Revell

Surprised by Love (Nov 8th – 15th)

She can turn the head of the man who spurned her–but can she turn his heart?

When Megan McClare left San Francisco to study in Paris, no one would accuse her of being poised and pretty. But on the other side of the Atlantic, this wallflower blossomed into a beauty with big dreams. When she returns to California and accepts an internship at the district attorney’s office, she’s thrilled that her life is taking shape. But the exciting opportunity quickly loses its glow when she discovers she’ll be working alongside Devin Caldwell, who mercilessly mocked her at school–and with whom she was hopelessly enamored.

Bram Hughes is the best friend to whom Megan has always turned for support and advice. But when she seeks his counsel about working with Devin Caldwell, Bram’s vision is clouded by his sudden unwelcome attraction to a girl he had always thought of as a little sister. He advises forgiveness, but can he forgive himself for pushing the woman he loves into the arms of another man?

Author Julie Lessman draws a romantic triangle that will touch your heart in this glittering Gilded Age tale of transforming love.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

As with all of Julie Lessman’s books, Surprised by Love was full of passion. That is the one thing I love about Ms. Lessman, I love her passion, and I love feeling it in each book she writes. Megan McClare had everything going for her. She is thrilled to return to California, landing an awesome job that she was thrilled about. But she was not thrilled that she would be working with a former high school classmate. Devin Caldwell was more like every woman’s horror that every woman’s dream! and that was especially true for Megan. This was one guy she did not want to see again, much less work with him. Which makes this story a most interesting and entertaining one!

The more I read, the more I enjoyed getting to know the characters, and the setting of the story. Julie Lessman does a fantastic job in describing each scene in detail, pulling you into the story so much that you don’t want to stop reading. As I neared the end of the book, I kept slowing down because I didn’t want it to finish! I encourage you to give Surprised by Love a try, and I know you will enjoy it as much as I did!

Julie Lessman book

Sparks fly every time the two meet until a grudging friendship develops into something deeper. But is he just a fraud like all the rest of the men Allison’s cared for? Or is he the one who will let her dare to love again?

Award-winning author Julie Lessman brings the glamour of Gilded Age San Francisco to vibrant life in this journey to find a love that never fails.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

When I was given the honor to read Dare to Love Again, I knew it would be a fantastic read, because Julie Lessman doesn’t write anything but passionate, fantastic books! And Wow! This is one of her best, in my opinion.  Upper Society girl Allison McClare and Detective Nick Barone just didn’t hit it off from the start. Allison runs a school for the not so wealthy people in their community with her mother. She had no idea how these poverty people lived until she got out to see for herself. But with feisty Allison, she was not match for what was out there in her world, so Nick Barone was hired to watch out for her.

Can I just say, I love, love Julie Lessman’s books? And I loved reading Dare to Love Again. Nick and Allison are such strong and determined characters, I loved the interaction between them. Their attitudes gave me a lot of laughs throughout this book. I always enjoy books when characters from the wealthy are from poverty meet and are attracted to each other. The more Allison saw of the poverty around their community, the more heartwarming the book gets. And all of the twists and turns in the story keeps that book in your hand as much as possible! I had a difficult time putting it down, when there was something else I just had to do!

And one of the things I love most about Ms. Lessman’s books is the way she weaves God’s love and faithfulness within the lives of her characters. She makes the Christian life seem real in the characters lives. I really don’t want to tell you much about the plot, because it always ruins it for me if I know too much! So I will just say that this is one of the best books you will ever read! And did I mention that it is a historical fiction? You will love Love at Any Cost just as much as I did, I am sure of it!

I received this book from the publisher Revell Publishers to read and review.  I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

Book Blurb

One Woman. Two Men.
One stirs her pulse and the other her faith.
But who will win her heart?

Marceline Murphy is a gentle beauty with a well-founded aversion to rogues. But when two of Boston’s most notorious pursue her, she encounters a tug-of-war of the heart she isn’t expecting. Sam O’Rourke is the childhood hero she’s pined for, the brother of her best friend and a member of the large, boisterous family to which she longs to be a part. So when his best friend Patrick O’Connor joins in pursuit of her affections, the choice seems all too clear. Sam is from a family of faith and Patrick is not, two rogues whose wild ways clash head-on with Marcy’s—both in her faith and in her heart.

While overseeing the Christmas play fundraiser for the St. Mary’s parish soup kitchen—A Light in the Window—Marcy not only wrestles with her attraction to both men, but with her concern for their spiritual welfare. The play is based on the Irish custom of placing a candle in the window on Christmas Eve to welcome the Holy Family, and for Marcy, its message becomes deeply personal. Her grandmother Mima cautions her to guard her heart for the type of man who will respond to the “light in the window,” meaning the message of Christ in her heart. But when disaster strikes during the play, Marcy is destined to discover the truth of the play’s message first-hand when it becomes clear that although two men have professed their undying love, only one has truly responded to “the light in the window.”

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Finally!! We find out how Marcy and Patrick meet. And what a story it is. Isn’t is amazing how meeting ‘the’ girl can change a guys life? Cause him to do unthinkable things he never dreamed he would do? Well that is what happened to Patrick. But life sure wasn’t easy for the poor guy. He had it rough, and it seemed like everyone was against him, even his family.

A Light In The Window is another WOW book from one of my favorite authors, Julie Lessman. With characters that we already love, it was really fun reading about the young Patrick and Marcy, their goods and bads, ins and outs of the pre-dating, through the tough times of getting to know each other. And with all of the action going on throughout the book, you can’t stop reading because you’re so eager to find out what happens with Patrick. And you will understand that when you read the book!

And I love the ‘Light In The Window’ story and the way it was used as the Christmas story. Julie Lessman weaves together friends, family, situations, church family and God and tells a story that will touch your heart and stay with you for a long time. And I love and appreciate how Julie show in her characters how God takes a life that people think is lost forever and turns it completely around, and all when we trust Him.

This is a great Christmas story that I strong encourage you to add as part of your Christmas reading enjoyment. You will not be disappointed. And if you have read the Wind of Change Series, then this book is a Must for you to read!

Author Julie Lessman provided an e-copy of this book for me to read and review. I was not required or expected to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.
