ABOUT THIS BIBLE

Book Description

The NKJV Bride’s Bible is the perfect way to start marriage off right—with God’s Word at the center. Bound in classic white Leathersoft™, this Bible will take its place as a treasured family heirloom in the years to come. With the trusted New King James Version, a presentation page, gilded page edges, and a satin ribbon marker, this Bible is a beautiful gift for engagement celebrations and bridal showers.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BIBLE

Wow, this is a beautiful Bible! It’s a small Bible, the dementions being 5×1.4×7.4. Just the right size for carrying in your purse! The description says comfort print and the print is sharp and easy to read. But it is very small print, 6.5 print size. But for younger people that have no problems with small print, this would make a beautiful for the Bride in your family. The red letters are nice because you can know that Jesus said these words Himself. There are pages that you can record many things including your marriage date, family history, etc. And I can’t leave out the gorgeous white leather look cover with a pretty flower border.

Everything about this Bible says Bride! It is the NKJV, and would be nice for the pastor to give to the bride, or anyone really could give this beautiful gift Bible. I think it is just absolutely amazing! And I pray you will check this one out!

About the Book

mending fences

Book: Mending Fences

Author: Suzanne Woods Fisher

Genre: Christian fiction, Amish, Mennonite

Release Date: February 5, 2019

Every saint has a past. Every sinner has a future.

Luke Schrock is a new and improved man after a stint in rehab, though everyone in Stoney Ridge only remembers the old Luke. They might have forgiven him, but nobody trusts him. He has been allowed to live at Windmill Farm under two conditions. First, he must make a sincere apology to each person he’s hurt. Second, he must ask each victim of mischief to describe the damage he caused.

Simple, Luke thinks. Offering apologies is easy. But discovering the lasting effects his careless actions have caused isn’t so simple. It’s gut-wrenching.

And his list keeps growing. Izzy Miller, beautiful and frustratingly aloof, also boards at Windmill Farm, and Luke’s clumsy efforts to befriend her only insult and annoy her. Eager to impress, Luke sets out to prove himself to her by locating her mother. When he does, her identity sends shock waves through Stoney Ridge.

“A funny, heartwarming story of friendship, love, and the possibility of happily ever after.”—Amy Clipston, bestselling author of Seat by the Hearth

“Suzanne Woods Fisher has written a sweet and poignant story you won’t want put down. Definitely a must read!”—Kathleen Fuller, bestselling author of the Amish of Birch Creek series.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Luke Schrock returns to his Amish community a new man after many months of rehab because of his achohol addiction and reckless lifestyle. His Amish neighbors forgive him, so they say, but they don’t trust him, and still treat him like the old Luke. This is something that I find so irritating, because it seems like the Amish forgiveness is in word only, not from the heart. Sure Luke has to prove himself, but I find the behavior of this Amish community off balance. But for David, the only one who stuck by Luke through it all. It was David who found Luke a place to stay, with farm owners Amos and Fern. Luke was to help Amos on his farm that grew many types of fruit. As well as apologize to all of the people he offended, and ask each person the damage he had caused. This humbled Luke more than he imagined, and he strived to make amends to each of those people.

Again, Suzanne Woods Fisher gives readers a sweet heartwarming and eye opening Amish story to read and enjoy. It was truly a story of heartfelt love and redemption, learning and friendships. If you enjoy Amish stories, you will love this one! But I do have to say, there is one thing I did not like about this story and that’s all of the references to snakes. And I don’t care how hard Luke tried, I would have sent him on his way with every book, and sacks of snakes he showed up with! But that’s just the opinion of this one reader!

More from Suzanne

A Friend in Need

“A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.” –Walter Winchell

Luke Schrock was nearly friendless. He returned to Stoney Ridge in Mending Fencesafter a stint in rehab only because his bishop, David Stoltzfus, strongly encouraged him. And everybody knows you didn’t say no to your bishop.

But nobody else in town wanted anything to do with Luke. They forgave him for the trouble he’d caused in his last downward spiral, the one that went too far. The one that even scared Luke. Forgiving him was the easy part. The Amish of Stoney Ridge were intentional forgivers. It was their trust—that’s what he would have to earn. Trust was a fragile thing. Once broken, it wasn’t easily mended.

Somehow, David was still able to look past the behavior to see the best of Luke Schrock. He didn’t stop there. He found a family who was willing to take Luke in, and he spent hours with him—at times as a mentor, at times as a father figure, but mostly as a friend.

A loyal friend can have a powerful impact. Consider those friends in the town of Capernaum, who carried their paralyzed friend to Jesus for healing—so determined to get to Him that they dragged his stretcher up onto a roof, broke through the roof tiles, and lowered him down. Can you imagine being in the crowd, listening to Jesus, as straw and tile pieces and branches and bugs started to drop down from the ceiling? A shocking display…of devoted friendship. And what a miraculous outcome for that paralyzed man!*

I won’t tell you how Luke’s story ends—only that he works hard to find ways to make amends to those he hurt, to regain trust. Especially the hard-to-earn trust of a brown-eyed beauty named Izzy.

Do you have a real friend like David Stoltzfus, who walks in when the rest of the world has walked out? Or maybe the better question, for you, for me, is to ask ourselves if we are friends to others like David Stoltzfus was to Luke Schrock. I know I want to be.

*This miracle is reported in three gospels: Mark 2:1-12, Matthew 9:1-8, Luke 5:17-26.

Within These Lines by Stephanie Morrill

Welcome to the Blog & Review Tour – and Giveaway – for Within These Lines by Stephanie Morrill, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

9780310765264Title: Within These Lines
Author: Stephanie Morrill
Publisher: Blink YA
Genre: Historical Young Adult Fiction
Release Date: March 5, 2019

When Evalina Cassano and Taichi Hamasaki are torn apart by the events following the attack on Pearl Harbor, they must fight if they want any hope of returning to one another before World War II steals their future together. Within These Lines is one unflinching, haunting, historical novel you don’t want to miss; perfect for fans of Monica Hesse, Ruta Sepetys, and Elizabeth Wein.

Evalina Cassano’s life in an Italian-American family living in San Francisco in 1941 is quiet and ordinary until she falls in love with Taichi Hamasaki, the son of Japanese immigrants. Despite the scandal it would cause and that inter-racial marriage is illegal in California, Evalina and Taichi vow they will find a way to be together. But anti-Japanese feelings erupt across the country after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and Taichi and his family are forced to give up their farm and move to a Japanese-American internment camp.

Degrading treatment makes life at Manzanar Relocation Center difficult. Taichi’s only connection to the outside world is treasured letters from Evalina. Feeling that the only action she can take to help Taichi is to speak out against injustice, Evalina becomes increasingly vocal at school and at home. Meanwhile, inside Manzanar, fighting between different Japanese-American factions arises. Taichi begins to doubt he will ever leave the camp alive.

With tensions running high and their freedom on the line, Evalina and Taichi must hold true to their ideals and believe in their love to make a way back to each other against unbelievable odds.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Evalina Cassano and Taichi Hamasaki both lives in San Francisco with their parents. Evalina’s parents purchase produce from Hamasaki’s parents. As they spend time together, they fall in love. Something that shouldn’t have happened. Interracial marriage is illegal in California and Taichi is the son of Japanese immigrants. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Hamasaki Family we’re forced to move to a Japanese-American internment camp. But these two young people determined to find a way to be together. But will the government continue to keep them apart?

This is a haunting novel indeed. The degrading way the Japanese were rudely taken from their homes, and even more degrading way their living conditions were in the internment camp were difficult to read. And I think of the way California laws are today, it’s difficult to believe  there was a time they didn’t allow inter-racial marriages!

Stephanie Morrill’s Within These Lines is a wonderfully written historical fiction that takes readers back to a very difficult time in history. The historical events in the book was like taking a trip back in time, living the attack on Pearl Harbor and all of the after effects. The characters were skillfully created and played their parts well as the story developed. I am glad to know Evelina and Taichi, and to walk with them through the darkest moments of their lives, as well as the happier times. Their determination to take what life threw at them was a powerful story to read. Even though this book is written for the YA market, I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you enjoy war stories, stories with the historical setting at the time of Pearl Harbor, you will I’ve reading this book!

I received this book from JustReads Tours to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal  Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

Book Description

“The Norgaard brothers and their families will steal your heart.” —Catherine West, author of Where Hope Begins

Heartache and regret, boldness and sacrifice. What will restoration cost the beloved Norgaard family?

Aven Norgaard understands courage. Orphaned within an Irish workhouse, then widowed at just nineteen, she voyaged to America where she was wooed and wed by Thor Norgaard, a Deaf man in rural Appalachia. That the Lord saw her along the winding journey and that Aven now carries Thor’s child are blessings beyond measure. Yet while Thor holds her heart, it is Haakon—his younger brother and rival—who haunts her memories.

Having fled the Norgaard orchard after trying to take Aven as his own, Haakon sails on the North Atlantic ice trade, where his soul is plagued with regrets that distance cannot heal. Not even the beautiful Norwegian woman he’s pursued can ease the torment. When the winds bear him home after four years away, Haakon finds the family on the brink of tragedy. A decades-old feud with the neighboring farm has wrenched them into the fiercest confrontation on Blackbird Mountain since the Civil War. Haakon’s cunning and strength hold the power to seal many fates, including Thor’s—which is already imperiled due to a grave illness brought to him at the first prick of warfare.

Now Haakon faces the hardest choice of his life. One that shapes a battlefield where pride must be broken enough to be restored, and where a prodigal son may finally know the healing peace of surrender and the boundless gift of forgiveness. And when it comes to the woman he left behind in Norway, he just might discover that while his heart belongs to a daughter of the north, she’s been awaiting him on shores more distant than the land he’s fighting for.

From Christy Award–winning author Joanne Bischof comes Daughters of Northern Shores: the highly anticipated sequel to her moving novel Sons of Blackbird Mountain.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love love Daughters of the Northern Shores! I have been waiting on this book since I read the first book in this series, Sons of Blackbird Mountain, and believe me, it is well worth the wait. The Norgaard brothers, Thor and Haaken both fell for Aven, but it was Haaken that embarrassed Aven as well as himself, sending him on a long four years away from the Norgaard home. In daughters of the Northern Shores, Haaken arrives back at the family home, but its was anything but what he expected. The brothers were about to go to battle with the neighbors because of a long time feud. And Thor is very ill and unable to help out. How will Haaken handle his unexpected homecoming? Will he get the forgiveness from his family that brought him back home to them?

I was so very happy to visit the Norgaard family again, especially to see how Thor and Aven are doing. I fell in love with these two characters early in the first book, and I love them even more in this second book. Their characters were beautifully created, and their story is so believably and real! I love it when I feel like I am good friends with the characters! When I find myself wanting to pray for characters, I know I in trouble, and that’s just the way I feel about Thor and Aven. And now they are married and have a beautiful life together with a new baby on the way.

But this is more of Haaken’s story. While he was away, finally meeting someone he really cares about brought him back home to take care of a few things so he can move on with his life. A lot happens during that time home, that I don’t want to get in to here, you really need to read the book for yourself to get this info and I don’t want to spoil it. But I can say that again, Haaken’s character was awesomely created, and will stay with me for a long while, and hopefully there will be a third book in this series!

I received this book from BookLook Bloggers to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Joanne has a long-standing passion for romance and a budding fervor for theology. She is more and more awed by how wondrously the two go hand in hand.

So depraved are we in our sinful state—so in need of a Savior—that the love story between God and his people is nothing short of astounding. A quenching of the thirst to parched souls. A light that makes the darkness tremble. A freedom from the bondage of pain and sin. Joanne is beyond thankful to be a part of this great love story and writes books to not only portray the glorious wonder of human love, but to reflect the ultimate romance and rescue that comes through Christ.

We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops

Launch – Note from the Author

Pajama Party is adapted from a play I wrote many years ago. I hope you enjoy the peek inside the lives of nine girls who stole my heart. My prayer is that they steal your heart as well.

— E. C.

Remembrancy – Review

“…the concept was great. What if we all had taken the initiative and time to evaluate our friendships and had the courage to change them for the better when we were young? . . . When the story is over, readers of all ages will be challenged to examine friendships and determine whether they are uplifting or harmful.”

“Real issues are discussed and dealt with, but all is done within the context of the Bible and a Christian worldview. For that fact alone, I am eternally grateful. . . . this is a book that would definitely appeal to teenage girls, especially those from around 13-16. . . . the most important thing about the book is its message which came across quite clearly.”

Brooke Blogs – Excerpt

Karen left the room and plodded up the stairs. She stopped outside her parents’ bedroom at the far end of the hall. Quickly knocking on the double door, she entered the room without an invitation.

“I’m home, Mom. Diane is changing clothes in the guest bedroom.”

Annette Duncan replaced the telephone receiver on the hook before looking up. “Good. I just talked to your grandmother. She sends her love and good wishes for your party tonight.”

amandainpa – Spotlight

Her friend leaned against her. “You know that Lisa constantly picks on me. Tonight, I’ll be stuck in this room while everyone laughs at her jokes. I think about her insults long after they stop.”

“That won’t happen this time. Lisa’s already promised to behave herself tonight.”

Surprise sprang into Diane’s eyes as she pulled away from Karen. “Oh no!” She moved across the room until she stood inside the doorway. “Why did you discuss me with Lisa? Everyone will think I cry to you for help.”

Speechless, Karen searched for the right words. She’d never seen Diane upset before. Was telling Lisa to behave herself the wrong thing to do? I was trying to make it go easier for Diane…

Splashes of Joy – Review

“If you have a teenage girl, this book would be a great read for her. Though it’s a great read for any age, teenage girls will be able to relate to what is going on with this crowd! The book is fun, entertaining, and just what you think it would be with this many girls in one house together! The characters are realistic, I felt as though I was in that house with them! I want to encourage you to check out this book for yourself, as well as any teenage girl you may know.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

Oh well. Too late to tune out now. I might as well listen. Karen watched the girls lug their sleepover gear to the steps. For once, their nonstop chatter had been abandoned. But having their hands filled with stuff failed to explain their subdued behavior. Unless …

Joann broke the silence after she reached the steps. The five-six, raven-haired, blue-eyed beauty towered over the other girls. “I don’t see Angela’s or Linda’s cars. Good. I’m glad we’re the first ones here.”

“Too bad, we’re not. Diane Meredith went home with Karen after school today,” said Lisa.

Her pouty speech concerned Karen. She pressed her forehead onto the glass as she remembered her promise to Diane. Lisa was still upset about seeing Diane and Karen walking home together after school. She acted awful whenever she became angry.

“Within the first couple chapters, I was hooked. I found this quick story to be inspiring with an element of faith, hope and the power of forgiveness. . . . I recommend it, especially for preteen and young teenage readers. They would definitely relate with the characters and what they are going through. Many readers would learn some very important lessons.”

Colorimetry – Excerpt

“I didn’t know that. At first, Karen seemed snooty when I met her. She’s cool. But her friends act weird. Today they were complaining because she only invited three of them tonight. Why did she include you and me but leave them out? Have they always been buddies?”

“Of the girls invited, four of us started kindergarten together. Angela was in second grade. Joann, Kathy, and Diane came to Jefferson Middle in sixth grade. The rest of the group came in seventh grade. Why are you frowning?”

“It’s because you all grew up together but barely talk to each other. I’ve only seen Diane with Karen. Their group is hard to figure out. I used to think they hated each other until I saw them away from school. I’ve spotted them around town, but Karen is never with them.”

Teatime and Books – Excerpt

“Well, you know how Lisa and Diane react to each other, but Lisa’s argument with Evette surprised me. I know,” she said when Sandy did a double take. “The entire scene was unbelievable to watch. There’s more to Evette than we suspected.”

Angela raised her eyebrows. “Did Evette and Lisa argue about something specific? What set it off?”
“I told you she was a paradox.” Karen looked at her as if that comment answered the question.

“Yeah, I had to look up the word to refresh my memory. It isn’t a word that I use every day. I don’t see how the definition fits Evette.”

JeanBookNerd – Interview

In your new book; PAJAMA PARTY: THE STORY, can you tell my Book Nerd community a little about it.

With a guest list certain to create conflicts and plenty of drama, the pajama party served a higher purpose than the hostess ever imagined. All Karen wanted was an opportunity to live the life she had enjoyed before seventh grade. Was it an achievable ambition? Maybe. That was the year she abandoned many true friends for some artificial ones. She’s now older and wiser, but she also has a new host of problems she’d never imagined.

Eight other girls embark on the same roller-coaster ride. From the time of their arrival, preconceived notions, false assumptions, selfishness, and self-doubt surface with each interaction. Do the girls know one another as well as each one believes? Or will they learn secrets and uncover unknown truths, even about themselves?

The stakes are high as the teens face a variety of challenges throughout the night.

Although it was freezing outside, Karen wanted to move the conversation onto the front porch. She hated that the girls were huddled in the foyer. Her mother and sister sat on the top step. They’d listened to every word so far. Annette stared at her. She probably thought about what had happened to Karen last May.

Stop worrying about me, Mom. I’m fine. That will never happen to me again.

Don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end of this post, if you haven’t already…

Pajama Party: The Story
By E. C. Jackson
YA Christian Contemporary
Paperback & ebook, 213 Pages
August 26th 2017 by E. C. Jackson

Most sleepovers are simple. Food, fun, and pillow fights. But sixteen-year-old Karen Duncan has bigger plans for her slumber party. Family troubles have changed her over the past year, and she’s no longer the petty, selfish girl she used to be. Now she’s ready to shake things up with her friends. The guest list comes as a surprise to some and a slap in the face to others. This popular girl has invited some not-so-popular guests. Even more shocking, she’s left out some of the girls she’s hung out with since middle school.

Diane and Evette are outsiders, nervous about being stuck in a house with the same girls who tease them at school. Kathy, Lisa, and Joann come to the party with the confidence of the in-crowd, but they’re masking inner-turmoil that is bound to surface. Sandy and Angela are usually the voices of reason…usually. And then there’s Linda, the friend that got away. She may not ever forgive the girls who abandoned her years ago. Karen hopes to change her mind.

Her agenda is ambitious, and it could spell disaster. But Karen is convinced God will use this party to spark a new beginning for everyone involved. This companion book to A Living Hope gives us the inspired story Sadie Cummings wrote for the girls of Shiatown.

Everyone in her Alaskan town hopes Iris James is back for good. Including Dr. Flynn Ramsey, who stole her heart when they were awkward teenagers. Except her reignited feelings for Flynn…

With Flynn’s hand branding Iris’s bare back, he led her to the dance floor. Gentle notes of a popular love song filled the air, so Flynn gathered her in his embrace and made dancing seem as easy as everything else he did. The satisfied smile playing on his lips caused Iris’s heart to execute a slow cartwheel inside her chest. She should be used to this, to him, by now.

Lowering her voice to a whisper, she said, “Thank you for that. I owe you one. It was probably a little over-the-top, but I appreciate your dramatic flair. I’m sure they’re still talking about it.”

He dipped his head, and whispered near her ear, “I could not possibly care any less than I do about Faith or Ashley. And I only care about Todd in that I don’t want you singing any duets with him.”

“I hadn’t planned to but…” Her throat went dry because his hand had returned to her back, where his thumb caressed the skin along the edge of her dress. “What are you doing?”

“Dancing. Is there something going on between you and Cricket?”

“What?” she answered, alarmed by the subject change. Did he know about the flying lessons? She wasn’t ready for anyone to know about that yet. “Like what? What do you mean by ‘something’?”

Eyes narrowed and assessing, he clarified, “Are you two romantically involved?”

“Oh.” She laughed, and then paused to process the question. She didn’t want to tell him the truth, but she also didn’t want him thinking that. “That’s not what’s going on,” she said, and then realized that she’d inferred that something was.

“What is going on, then?”

“Nothing. I mean, he is helping me with something. But we’re just friends. He’s practically like a brother to me, you know that.”

“I do, I was just confirming it before I did something.”

“What?”

Tightening his hold, he twirled her around. She said, “Oh, I get it. They’re still watching, right?”

Flynn chuckled softly, shifting his focus to meet her gaze again. His brown eyes seemed to burn into hers. “No, I don’t think you do get it,” he murmured. “But then again, I didn’t really get it, either.”

“Get what? Flynn, what are you…?” Her question trailed off because he was staring at her mouth. The heat from her cheeks was apparently burning through to her brain because she could not think straight. Much less talk.

“Maybe this will help.”

Then his mouth brushed against hers in the sweetest, most perfect caress. Flynn was kissing her? Yes, he sure was, and his lips were velvety soft and completely perfect, and she couldn’t—she wouldn’t—think past that. Instead, she kissed him back, pressing her mouth more firmly to his. One hand came up to grip his shoulder. Before she could do more than that, his soft lips were gone.

“Iris,” he whispered, “I’m…” He closed his eyes and rested his forehead against hers for a second before slipping a hand around the back of her neck. He pressed a gentle kiss against her forehead and tucked her in close again. “Give me a second.”

Iris focused on trying to move air in and out of her lungs, but with her cheek pressed against his chest, every breath was Flynn-scented with hints of spicy soap and cedar boughs. Flynn had just kissed her. What did that mean? What did she do now? Panic welled inside of her because it couldn’t mean anything.

A chuckle vibrated through him. “That should give everyone something to talk about, huh?”

Of course, she realized, he’d kissed her for her, to help her. Thank goodness, he’d broken it off before she’d said, or done, something truly embarrassing. Her cheeks ignited with heat as she imagined herself clinging to him like a spider monkey on the dance floor.

Blog Blitz/Giveaway A Most Inconvenient Love

a most inconvenient love blitz

Welcome to the Blog Blitz & Giveaway for A Most Inconvenient Love by Ruth Logan Herne, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

A Most Inconvenient Love - Front CoverTitle: A Most Inconvenient Love

Series: Prairie Brides #1

Author: Ruth Logan Herne

Genre: Historical/Western Romance

Release Date: February 26, 2019

Sober businessman Seb Ward may have come from a wealthy lumber-baron family in Minnesota, but he knows that appearances can be deceiving, and that his illustrious family is pretty dysfunctional. Being in another state has provided the buffer he sought from his father’s misdeeds, but when a little boy shows up on a train… a little boy who looks enough like Seb to be his own child… Seb’s faced with a dilemma. Raise the boy as his own, or let his mother suffer the embarrassment of “a brother by another mother.” And when the boy takes a shine to the Rachel Eichas, the newly contracted school teacher, Seb can’t help but do the same.

But Rachel was raised by an unloving, business-first father and there’s no way she’s looking for those same qualities in a husband. Can she see through Seb’s focus and drive to find the loving man within?

EXCERPT

Seb’s next thought sprang to his father’s long list of indiscretions. Were there more children out there?

His temples throbbed at the thought. His mother, such a good, caring woman, always ready to help others. Did she suspect his infidelity? Did she care? Or had Cedric used up her sympathy over the years?

He looked up as they reached the corner. He paused, drinking in the sight before him. Rachel Eichas was talking to Nellie outside her brother’s wagon shop.

Simple beauty.

Nellie’s good looks flashed with her quick moves, her blond hair and bright dresses.

Rachel’s beauty shone in its more demure fashion, like the morning star. Not “notice-me” sharp, but warm and enticing. Peaceful.

She caught sight of him, watching her.

Fingers, long and tapering, went to her throat, as if unnerved.

She swallowed, and when Nellie followed the direction of her gaze, she smiled wide, as if surmising.

But there was nothing to surmise or expect. He knew that. He understood what wasn’t said. He’d set a name for himself in this town, he’d kept himself apart with grave intent, and the image he’d put forth was done with purpose. A businessman couldn’t be successful and easy-going. If he was, he didn’t stay in business long, especially in the cut-throat business of lumber these days. Tens of millions of board feet of lumber came out of Minnesota, with thousands of loggers cutting year-round. It was a business enjoying a huge upswing, but that upward arc of the pendulum wouldn’t last forever. Rising trends never did, and Seb had to be prepared for not only the seasonal rise and fall in sales, but the annual fluctuations. And now, a boy that looked just like him, added into the mix.
