About the Book

This Homeward Journey

Title:

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre: Christian historical romance

Release date: January 1, 2019

After her husband’s death, Rachel Gray is finally free from the turmoil his addictions caused. She wants nothing more than a new life with her twelve-year-old son. If she can reach her brother in the wilderness of the Canadian territories, they’ll have help to start over in peace. She knows better than to put her life in the hands of another man, but she never expected the Montana mountains to be so treacherous. When two brothers invite her to join their small group traveling to the same area, she refuses. After she and her son narrowly escape a bear attack, she’s forced to admit they need the safety of numbers in this untamed land. If the men prove dangerous, she can always leave with her son and strike out alone again.

Seth Grant has made some bad choices in his life, but God healed him from the addiction that mired him in his sins. Now, he’s determined to live the life God called him to, starting with a journey northward to see the Canadian mountain both his brother and sister have fallen in love with. When he discovers the woman and boy who plan to travel the same mountain trail, he can’t fathom why she refuses to join in the safety of their larger group. Though her decision seems unwise, he has no other choice but to pray God provides her protection.

Despite Rachel’s best efforts, she can’t seem to fight her attraction to the Seth—until a secret from his past proves he’s not at all the man she thought. When a new peril threatens her son’s life, she must choose between trusting in what she can control, or the man who her heart says is trustworthy, no matter his previous sins. The path she chooses just may determine whether she can step into the new life God has in store for them all.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

As I have followed author Misty Beller’s Heart of the Mountain series in book 5, I am finding that this book is just as intense as the first 4 books! Getting to know more of the Grant siblings, twins this time, Thr characters of Seth and Samuel.

Rachel Gray finally decides to  make it to her brothers place located in the wilderness of the Canadian territories, she knows they will have help to start over. But never did she imagine it wouldn’t be so difficult.  After refusing their offers once, and after making sure she trails them and checks them out, and after she narrowly escape a bear attack, thanks to her son and  no thanks to Rachel, she decides to take them up their offer for help. But Rachel was still determined to make their own way.

With characters still as stubborn and determined as before, Misty Beller takes readers on another heartbreaking and at the same time heartwarming journey through the heart if the Canadian Mountains with the wilderness taking its tile on those traveling through. In all five of her books, Ms. Beller has readers on the edge of their seats, and this one is no different. From the deepest of the mountain snows, to the animals living in that wild territory, you will find yourself amazed at what happens next in this adventurous story. You don’t want to miss out on this next book in The Heart of the Mountain Series by this amazing author.

About the Author

MistyMisty M. Beller writes romantic mountain stories, set on the 1800s frontier and woven with the truth of God’s love.

She was raised on a farm in South Carolina, so her Southern roots run deep. Growing up, her family was close, and they continue to keep that priority today. Her husband and daughters now add another dimension to her life, keeping her both grounded and crazy.

God has placed a desire in Misty’s heart to combine her love for Christian fiction and the simpler ranch life, writing historical novels that display God’s abundant love through the twists and turns in the lives of her characters.

Guest Post from Misty

Why Christian Historical Romance?

I don’t know about you, but my life can get crazy…busy…chaotic. Historical fiction gives me a haven, allowing me to immerse in a simpler time and place. Add in remote mountain settings—log cabins and horses and snow…what could be better? Sometimes I wish God had let me live a couple centuries ago, but then I remind myself He knew exactly what He was doing. I don’t do well without a shower every day. 😊 And He even lets me go back to that simpler time through stories!

If you’re reading this, you probably enjoy immersing yourself in a good book, too. Story can be such a powerful thing! Becoming an intimate part of the characters’ lives, feeling their struggles—the desperation, the elation, the emotions, the love.

I enjoy reading and writing Christian fiction because it provides a place where I don’t always have to be concerned about inappropriate language or too-graphic love scenes. It’s a “safe zone” where my imagination can escape, living out exciting times and experiencing God-orchestrated happily-ever-afters—without having to clean-up at the end of the day. Can you relate?

I’m excited to share my latest Christian Historical Romance story with you, and hope you enjoy it as much as I loved writing it!

About the Book

Book: Catching Christmas

Author: Terri Blackstock

Genre: Christian Fiction, Romance, Christmas

Release Date: October 9, 2018

Catching ChristmasThis Year, Christmas Comes Just in Time

As a first-year law associate, Sydney Batson knows she will be updating her resume by New Year’s if she loses her current court case. So when her grandmother gets inexplicably ill while she’s in court, Sydney arranges for a cab to get her to the clinic.

The last thing cab driver Finn Parrish wants is to be saddled with a wheelchair-bound old lady with dementia. But because Miss Callie reminds him of his own mother, whom he failed miserably in her last days, he can’t say no when she keeps calling him for rides. Once a successful gourmet chef, Finn’s biggest concern now is making his rent, but half the time Callie doesn’t remember to pay him. And as she starts to feel better, she leads him on wild goose chases to find a Christmas date for her granddaughter.

When Finn meets Sydney, he’s quite sure that she’s never needed help finding a date. Does Miss Callie have an ulterior motive, or is this just a mission driven by delusions? He’s willing to do whatever he can to help fulfill Callie’s Christmas wish. He just never expected to be a vital part of it.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

When can driver Finn Parrish drove into the driveway of his next client, he sure didn’t know how much his life would change. Neither did he believe he would be doing so much extra for this client. Miss Callie was a special lady, but she needed family to take care of her. Family, Finn finds out it one granddaughter trying to work her job and take care of her grandmother too. And this time, calling a cab to take her grandmother to her Drs appointment was the only options.

I love this sweet story. Miss Callie may be old, but she knew exactly what she wanted. Her medicinal condition just keeps her from doing things on her own, so she decides the cab driver is the person to drive her to where she needs to go!

These amazing characters will capture your heart from the beginning. Miss Callie made the story fun and interesting. And I could tell Finn was a special guy from the beginning by the way he respected her. This was a different Christmas story, at least it was for me, but it is an amazing and wonderful story. A story that will warm your hearts for sure during this Christmas season.

Teach your children the story of Christmas . . . starting from creation! In Jesus Calling®: The Story of Christmas, children will discover that God always had a plan for Christmas.

Christ was chosen before the world was made.

—1 Peter 1:20

4b008135-9962-4c04-9032-2660de2e8ab6

The Christmas story began long, long ago. Before the angel Gabriel told Mary she would have God’s Son. Before the shepherds saw the angels and before the wise men saw the star.

Even before the sun and the moon shone for the first time, before the first cows ever moooed and the first monkeys ever climbed! Before Adam and Even took their first walk in the Garden of Eden, God had a plan for Christmas.

From the beginning of time, God had a plan to save his children. That plan was Jesus!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

What a beautiful Christmas story book for kids. And adults too, I love reading this story. I do think it may be a little more info for smaller children, not four year olds, but even with smaller children, you can leave out what you think it to much for your smaller child. I like that it has the prophecies are in the book because it gives kids an idea of what happens surrounding the birth of Jesus.

The hard cover copy is so beautiful! I would purchase this  book for the cover alone! The pictures inside are just as beautiful and children will love looking at the child like pictures while you are reading the story.

Overall, this is a sweet book to add to your child’s library, a book I strongly encourage you to check out. And one amazing thing about Christmas stories, you can read them anytime, because there’s never a wrong time to read the story of Jesus’ birth to children.

I received this book from Front Gate Blogger Network to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal  Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

Launch – Note from the Author

Hello, bloggers and readers alike!

Many blessings to you and yours during this festive time of year! It’s so encouraging to share this message of true love and forgiveness in Never Past Hope, Book #2 of my triangular trade trilogy, especially during the holidays. Besides a great Christmas scene including a little boy and a golden retriever-like puppy similar to mine, the story has some pretty serious struggles and conflict, and it may not be for the faint of heart…

Remembrancy – Excerpt from Starving Hearts

Argument between Annette and her mother regarding chaperon/arranged marriage

“No.” Mother turned and rubbed her chin, deep in thought. Calculating? What was she thinking? Planting her fists firmly on her waist, Mother returned with a fierce gaze. “My decision remains unchanged. No chaperon, no ball. And do not ask again. You know what could happen.”

“But Miss Haack will be there, as will you and Uncle and Aunt. Please, Mother, with everyone present, I thought I—”

“—Could find that extraordinary being you described some weeks ago? The charitable gentleman, who will overlook your faults and rescue you from the prison in which you believe you live?” Annette blinked and swallowed hard.

“From the first page, the reader’s interest is immediately drawn into the tale. The adventure and intrigue continue mounting until the very end of the book. [Starving Hearts] is an outstanding, well-written story, during the time of abolition and beginning reformation. It, also, addresses he ignorance concerning some of the health issues and treatment of that time period.” – Starving Hearts

“…it was still very well-written and the story line is quite creative. The adventure never ceases, although the “pace” of the tale is a little slower in this book. ” – Never Past Hope

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt from Starving Hearts

NOTE: In the forest, Peter finds Annette and her sketchbook filled with sketches of him.

He stopped pacing and looked down at her. Was it Providence? Had the Lord something in mind by bringing them together once more? Peter seated himself on the bench. “It’s of no consequence. You needn’t apologize.” How he wanted to take her hands in his and tell her how many times he had thought of her since their last missed encounter. Oh, how he wanted to ask all of his questions, but he didn’t.

“You needn’t be dishonest again. I have upset you, as it seems I am in the habit of doing.”

Splashes of Joy – Reviews

“Over all, this was an interesting and intriguing story to read. And really good writing for the author for a debut novel. There’s a lot going on in this book, many twists and turns that are not expected, making the book more entertaining, and keeping the interest of the reader to want to keep reading to find out what is on the next page.” – Starving Hearts

“All in all, this book was a better read than the first, I think. . . . [if] you love a good Regency novel to engulf in, I would recommend “Never Past Hope” for your reading enjoyment!” – Never Past Hope

Simply Kelina – Spotlight
Handcrafted Reviews – Excerpt from Starving Hearts

Sketchbook scene closing

Torn between captivation and shock, Peter watched her put the sketchbook back inside her bag and slip the strap over her head. Then she looked up at him again.

“I told you, no one else knows about them. And they never will.”

“Indeed.”

“You do not trust me?”

“That is not the issue.”

Reading Is My SuperPower – Excerpt from Never Past Hope

Miss Mary Hope Adsley should have kept her eyes on the door. She could see her bedchamber just a few steps down the hall, and candles lit the passage with its plush carpet and gold-leafed wall coverings. Except as she and Mother moved arm-in-arm, Mary Hope became distracted and glanced up at the ceiling.

Good heavens, even the shadows? She clenched her teeth. Lord, please hasten Mamá. I must get to my room. Because on this most dreadful day, the very shadows above mocked her, jeering and leaping overhead and along the walls, dancing as though in wicked delight.

At the threshold of the shelter Mary Hope so urgently required, Mother hesitated. “I suppose we are alone, again, except for the servants. They are still here—for now.”

Deal Sharing Aunt – Reviews

“This was an interesting read, I loved the time period and it was fun to get to know these characters.” – Starving Hearts

“I liked that Mary thought she was destined to be with Steven and wanted to stand by him. When everyone else thought he was guilty, she was willing to defend him, and that is true love. Stephen’s past and Mary’s determination made for an interesting read.” – Never Past Hope

Teatime and Books – Excerpt from Never Past Hope

Opening Scene (continued)

Mary Hope’s vision blurred as she slipped into her room. The metallic click of the bolt locking was her signal. Finally, she dropped her pretense, and all her gentle words and kind smiles, those nods and whispered reassurances—lies, every one of them—fell away. She staggered to the wing-backed chair by the fire, collapsing and pulling its woolen coverlet down around her shoulders, then huddling against its cushioned corner.

Sputtering, she tried to control the ache of her shattered heart, but she could not. The saintly lady of means, Miss Mary Hope Adsley, with all her self-assurance and poise, felt as if she was drowning, and she could not imagine how things could improve by morning.

Reading On The Edge – Excerpt from Never Past Hope

Stephen’s Reaction to Mary Hope visiting him in prison

Steven worked to stop the coughing as her lingering touch penetrated deep into his soul.

“Mr. Likebridge, you needn’t distress yourself so,” she encouraged. “All will be well.”

A whisper of concern. He noticed it under her gentle words. Of course, she would worry. She was always so sympathetic. But this wretched coughing, he must stop it. What if she took ill?

Starving Hearts is a good beginning to the Triangular Trade Trilogy. I absolutely loved Annette and Peter. The story has some mystery and suspense. I mostly appreciated the historical details and found them to be quite interesting.” – Starving Hearts

“I thought this was a pretty good read. I enjoyed Mary and Steven’s story. I had no problems wanting to keep turning the pages to see where they were headed to next.” – Never Past Hope

Praise for the Book

“I thoroughly enjoyed this clean, historical fiction. . . enjoyed most that it is not the usual presentation of a regency novel.” – Amazon Review
“A lovely story that shows how despicable each of us can be and yet God not only still loves us, but He was willing to die for us.” – Amazon Review

About the Author

I love losing myself somewhere in time with Downton Abbey, Pride and Prejudice or a number of other classics like Jane Eyre and Redeeming Love. I cry over most things Nicholas Sparks (because they usually end sadly) and Amazing Grace, both the movie and the hymn, because they lead to the Ultimate happily ever after.

2019 Ellie Claire Devotionals plus Journals! Three of Them!

L

067BC545-CF19-45B3-904C-F22DB54DCAAC

Not only is Ellie Claire offering three of the most beautiful Devotionals for 2019, for each devotion, you will find one page for the devotions, the page beside it has plenty of journaling room for you to write your thoughts on each of the 365 devotions. See my reviews below for all three of them. And check them out for that perfect person on your Christmas list this year!

THE FIRST DEVOTIONAL-JOURNAL IS:

Peace Begins With Me

AF8D3789-A625-4BB9-9F36-0E17C343C295

MY THOUGHTS ON “Peace Begins With Me”

First of all, it’s hard for me to pick a favorite. I like all three of them. This one, ‘Peace Begins With Me’ is my favorite as far as color. I love this light teal color. And the simple marble design on the outside is beautiful, as well as the white places inside with the teal color border. I would have snatched this one from a bookstore shelve first thing.

It will be calming for me just to see this color every morning when I do my devotions. I also love the writing space. There’s plenty of room to take notes, write favorite verses, list people you want to pray for, praises, or just special thoughts or maybe a song. I’m sure I will find many things to write in these spaces throughout the year! The pages are a thick quality that you can use any pen, and it won’t bleed through. Though I didn’t try a marker. I won’t be using a marker in mine. And I already have a teal pen to use! Gotta match things up.

The very first devotion, January 1, is “The Promise if Peace.” Talking about God’s Promise of Peace and encouraging me to pray for that peace in my everyday life. And one thing I noticed too while reading, the dates are only the month and day, not the year so these can be used any year, over and over. As I looked at many of the devotions, they were all something I can’t wait to read for that certain day! As I’ve already said, this Devotional Journal will be mine. I’m so excited about using this for 2019.

32064D05-3CF4-42B7-9543-A83B7EC279CE

THE SECOND DEVOTIONAL-Journal IS:

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

E4C2CBF6-BBEF-4197-8911-24190CC22A69

MY THOUGHTS ON “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”

If you love flowers, this 365 day Devotional Journal will be for you! I love it myself. Love the song, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus,” and I think about it every time I see this devotional journal. The inside pages have flowers in the top corners and a beautiful border to match along the bottom.

And the first devotion in this one is Jan 1, and is called “All About Him!” What beautiful and better way to start off 2019, talking about it’s all about Jesus! Because that is what life is all about. This Devotional & Journal also has about a half page on each day to write notes, thoughts, verses, songs, prayer request, or just about anything you want to. And these pages are think and high quality so you can safely write on them and not worry about the ink bleeding through.

I haven’t decided what I will do with this one. I want to keep it, but her I feel I need to give it away so someone else can be blessed by using it. Either way, it will be used and loved!

32064D05-3CF4-42B7-9543-A83B7EC279CE

THE THIRD DEVOTIONAL-Journal IS:

The Earth is the Lords and Everything In It

87B1EF01-7C76-4DC7-8A9C-9C069DC69F78

MY THOUGHTS ON

“The Earth is the Lords and Everything In It”

Another beautiful Devotional and Journal that will bless someone this year. If you are a peacock kind of person, you will dearly love this one! The outside cover is absolutely stunning with the beautiful peacocks, two of them, sitting on a branch with pink flowers! The inside it perhaps the most beautiful if the three, with flowers on a top and bottom corner and a peacock adorns the other bottom corner. There’s a space for To, From and Date on the inside front cover.

This Devotional Journal will go to a sister, or friend. Anyone will love this gift of something this special and beautiful. With plenty of writing space, it gives room for anything you feel you need to write during your devotion time. The pages are high quality paper, very nice. I would buy me a pen that matches! Draw pictures or doodle or do whatever you like with it.

And for all three of these Devotional Journal’s, Ellie Claire has outdone themselves with three of the most stunning works I’ve seen from them. It’s seems as though each new Ellie Claire is so much better, more beautiful and higher quality than the next. You can’t go wrong with the company. Whether it be for yourself, or a gift, check them out!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

It’s been a while since I’ve read a Nancy Mehl book and it was a delight to be able to read and review this one! And I love the suspense and thrills that are always present in Ms. Mehl’s books. Being the daughter of a known series killer, Kaely Quinn was hoping she has finally put her dad’s horrible reputation behind her. But when a reporter shows up with a poem written predicting a string of murders, including Kealy’s, she’s back to her old life and all that comes with it.

This is a Wow journey that takes readers on a wild goose chase as we try, along with Kaely and law enforcement to figure out who the killer will target next! But it’s not easy to try and get into the mind or someone so horrific and just plain evil. And what was their read motive? Why Kaely? She was a child when her dad was arrested. Her brother was the only one who may have a motive but Kaely couldn’t believe he would try something so evil.

Ms. Mehl does an amazing job of creating characters that will tell the story so realistic. It was like watching the local news or reading the local newspaper. Only Karly and Soecial Agent Noah Hunter were in the middle of this news story and they wanted this morbid killer stopped, and NOW!

I always like to try my hand at figuring out who the evil person is. Could it be someone everyone knows? Someone running around in front of everyone during the day? Well, I had a good idea of a couple of people it could be, which I was right, but it took a lot of sleuthing on my part. If you enjoy a fast paced thriller, Mind Games would be a fantastic read for you!

Guest Post from Nancy

Writing Mind Games is a dream come true. I’ve been interested in FBI profiling for years. I’ve read about it, studied it, and watched every TV special I could find on the subject. So when the chance finally came to write the book I’ve always wanted to write, I jumped at it. Thankfully, through the help of another writer, I was hooked up with a retired FBI profiler. I was so excited. Until I found out I had almost everything wrong. Yes, I had some understanding about profiling, but I knew nothing about the FBI and how it works.

First of all, the FBI doesn’t call the men and women who profile criminals, profilers. They’re called Behavioral Analysts. The plot for Mind Games had my analyst running around the country solving crimes while she was stationed in St. Louis. Uh, no. Behavioral analysts do travel, but they all work out of Quantico in Virginia. So…I rewrote.

There were ways around my conundrum, but one solution led to more and more problems. We finally worked through them. Then I spent the next few months learning acronyms. CIRG, CJIS, NCAVC, HRT, UNSUB, CNU, THU, ViCap, CODIS, SWAT, ERTU, OPU, THRU, ERT… Well, the list goes on and on. The FBI is made up of many specialized units. And a plethora of acronyms, it seems.

I rewrote Mind Games three times before my source said we were good to go.

If you assume I’m out of the woods now, you’d be wrong. I haven’t had the nerve to open up the manuscript I sent her for book two in my Kaely Quinn Profiler series. I figured I had Fire Storm right but… Well, I can tell from her email comments I’ll be doing more rewriting. Sigh.

So is it worth it? A resounding yes! I love learning, and as long as my analyst friend hangs in with me (she has the patience of Job), I’ll keep at it.

I hope you enjoy Mind Games. It’s edgy but fun. Kaely Quinn is a quirky character. She was thrown out of Quantico because her version of profiling is… Well, you’ll just have to read the book to find out!

Deep inside she is starving for companionship and a mutually respectful relationship. When Mr. Peter Adsley, an abolitionist pastor dealing with his own emotional baggage, agrees to a clandestine meeting, the event appears providential. But self-doubt, deception, and the schemes of a mutual enemy threaten to keep the pair apart. A phantom adversary will stop at nothing to win Annette’s dowry for himself, even if it means killing Peter.

Praise for the Book

“Not only is this a delightful regency romance but it is also suspense filled mystery of the very best kind.” – Amazon Review

“The author did a great job, maybe too great a job, describing the slave scenes. Spine tingling and suspenseful. I was biting my nails throughout much of this book.” – Amazon Review

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Annette Chetwyn was attack at a family gathering and Annette is desperate to find the mystery man who saved her from the attack. Though she has no trouble knowing the villain who attack her, for he didn’t care who knew Him or what he did! To which I find his character quite ridiculous! This story set in the 1790’s England era looks to be a romance, but it’s rather more historical, suspense, and lots of drama than anything. In fact, I was confused about much of them romance that went on between Annette and Peter Adsley. And the two are not good main characters as those I like reading about. At times, I find it very difficult connecting with these two. And Annette’s mother was a difficult character as well. I didn’t understand her personality and the many distractions she caused.

Over all, this was an interesting and intriguing story to read. And really good writing for the author for a debut novel. There’s a lot going on in this book, many twists and turns that are not expected, making the book more entertaining, and keeping the interest of the reader to want to keep reading to find out what is on the next page. But one other thing I am confused about, this book is in the Christian fiction category, and I don’t feel it should be there because of the places with questionable language. If there’s one thing that bothers me, if a book labeled as Christian or Inspirational fiction with foul language. This should be looked into by the author or publisher.

So, all that said, if you enjoy suspense and mystery, lots of action and drama in a historical setting, and the language isn’t a problem for you, check out this book. You will be intrigued at the going ons throughout this novel!

Never Past Hope
(Triangular Trade Trilogy #2)
By Janine Mendenhall
Christian Historical Romantic Suspense
Paperback & ebook, 308 Pages
September 10th 2018 by Heritage Beacon Fiction

Miss Mary Hope Adsley always considered herself to be the sensible one. But now, her sensibilities are unraveling around a man she thought she knew. After he attempted to marry her best friend—for money, no less—authorities charge Sir Steven Likebridge with masquerading as a gentleman and abduction. With his execution days away, Mary Hope desperately seeks to learn the truth about the man she loves.

Will the truth turn out to be worse than his lies?

Praise for the Book

“I thoroughly enjoyed this clean, historical fiction. . . enjoyed most that it is not the usual presentation of a regency novel.” – Amazon Review

“A lovely story that shows how despicable each of us can be and yet God not only still loves us, but He was willing to die for us.” – Amazon Review

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I was surprised to find the horrible villain of the first book in this series a main character in ‘Never Past Hope’. Steven is imprisoned for his many horrendous acts, including attacking a lady. Apparently Mary Hope sees something everyone else’s has missed, and vows to save Steven from the dreaded noose that is starting him in the face. I had a difficult time getting into this book, the beginning has so much detail about the characters that it’s just boring. But just hang in there and get through it because it gets much better. And nice to visit with characters from the first book in the series. I found Annette a much more likeable character. Though Peter has gone from a pastor to a non-likeable self-righteous snob who is demanding, and shows his authority in a ridiculous despicable way as head of his household. It’s weird how people change, especially from pastor to anything but that,  but it’s just that way sometimes in real life too  we never know what goes through the mind of people. So weird as it is, it’s real life.

All in all, this book was a better read than the first, I think. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the evil villain Steven being the hero, but though I have mixed feeling about that, you may find it interesting. As with the other book, the inappropriate language should take this book out of the Christian fiction category. But if this doesn’t bother you, and you love a good Regency novel to engulf in, I would recommend “Never Past Hope” for your reading enjoyment! And this series of two books would be a nice Christmas gift as well!

GoodreadsAmazon

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is a clean romance read with some Christian themes throughout the book. Kira Summers makes her home in Northern Canada and she works as a polar bear scientist. On the other hand Lukas Tanner moves to Churchill and works at his own Guiding Star Enterprises, giving tour guides throughout the snowy land of Canada. Even though Lukas has been there for five years, he and Kira’s paths have never crossed.

Lukas and Kira has a past outside of Nothern Canada, there is some background as to what happened to pull them apart. But with Lukas now a free man raising his daughter and Kira unmarried as well, there is much room for attraction to climb between these two characters. I found Kira’s job interesting, I believe this is the first book I’ve read where a polar bear scientist is involved. There’s not a lot of detail about what the job consist of but it is interesting to read the details here. Then there is the thriller of who is after Kira and why is she a target? Could t be something her dead brother had that these people are looking for?

There is quite a bit of action going on here, several twists to the story that will have you wondering what is going on and the question of whodunnit! And you might just be surprised just who is behind all of the suspense! This debut novel is sure worth your read. Pick up this new thriller from new author Laurie Wood and have a seat for a few hours of thrills and chills!

Catching Christmas by Terri Blackstock

chasing christmas

Book Description

The first Christmas story from New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Terri Blackstock.

“The feel-good Christmas book of the year. Blackstock’s tale of love and redemption wrapped in a holiday bow will leave you smiling. Don’t miss Catching Christmas.” —New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hauck

This Year, Christmas Comes Just in Time

Sydney Batson thinks she is doing what is best when she calls a cab to take her grandmother to her Drs appointment. But cab driver Finn Parrish didn’t think much of having to do things a cab driver shouldn’t have to do, which was taking a customer inside the Drs office and check her in. Just what kind of granddaughter was Sydney anyway.

I love Miss Callie! She made this story so fun and interesting. And I could tell Finn was a special guy from the beginning. Though he really didn’t want to keep taking Miss Callie around, he did it anyway with much respect for her. Terri Blackstock does an amazing job of creating characters that develop so well throughout the story. Characters that will weave their way into your hearts and stay there. This was a different Christmas, at least it was for me, but it is an amazing and wonderful story. A story that will warm your hearts for sure during this Christmas season.

I received this book from BookLook Bloggers to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

“Terri Blackstock’s latest offering touches tender places with its quirky characters and stirring plot. Catching Christmas explores what happens when the paths of a disenchanted Taxi driver collide with that of an overworked attorney. Blackstock weaves a compelling, romantic tale that is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit!” —Denise Hunter, bestselling author of Honeysuckle Dreams

“Blackstock’s Catching Christmas is not your average romance. Darling and laugh-out-loud cute, it makes the reader think about the important things in life. I read it in one gulp and wished there was more. Highly recommended!” —Colleen Coble, USA TODAY bestselling author of the Hope Beach series and the Lavender Tides series

Christmas at the Red Door Inn by Liz Johnson

7B2522CF-D948-4456-8D93-8CD508A4194D.jpeg

One blizzard. Two friends. Three days to fall in love.

Lifelong islander Brooke Kane doesn’t know what to do with her college degree, her dreams, or her future, but she knows better than to venture far from home when there’s a storm brewing. But a promise to check on Rose’s Red Door Inn prompts Brooke to venture out. By the time she arrives at the inn, the snow is knee-deep and visibility almost non-existent. She settles in to spend a few days alone at the inn until a familiar figure appears at the door.

Father Chuck O’Flannigan has never felt like a bigger fool. So focused on his recent decision to leave Prince Edward Island, he’s caught unaware by the blizzard while on a walk. He can only see the inn’s red door, a promise of safety. But when he discovers that Brooke—the only woman who could tempt him to stay on the island—is also taking refuge there, he knows he’s in trouble.

With Christmas only three days away, Brooke is determined that they’ll celebrate—even if it’s just the two of them. Happy to play Scrooge to her Tiny Tim, Chuck wiles away his hours dreaming of a return to Ireland—praying that God may have plans for him there. After all, God seems to have forgotten him in North Rustico. But as Brooke brings Christmas to life, her joy makes him wonder if God may not have forgotten him. In fact, God may have big plans for both of them—if they can only survive Christmas at the Red Door Inn.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

What fun to visit the Red Door Inn again this Christmas.

New Growth Press’ Spirit of Giving Family Devotionals Giveaway

For active families, reading the Bible together can feel overwhelming. However, family Bible study doesn’t have to be complicated! With just ten minutes a day, parents have enough time to pass on the most valuable treasure the world has ever known.

Start off the new year resolved to study the Bible together. New Growth Press has you covered and is giving away a family devotional package every family will want to win!

In this third and final Spirit of Giving giveaway of the Christmas season, New Growth Press is giving away THREE gift boxes of family devotionals (retail value of $148 each). From December 3-8, you can enter to win one of family devotional boxes.
Each gift box includes one copy of the following family devotionals written by Marty

Listen Up: 10-Minute Family Devotions on the Parrables

Children love stories, and the parables provide a wonderful opportunity to engage their imagination and help them understand and live out the good news of the kingdom of God. After teaching a parable, Jesus often said, “Whoever has ears, let him hear.” In other words, “This is important, so you better listen up,” and what could be more important than the good news of the kingdom of God? This family devotional provides a unique opportunity for parents to help their children “listen up” and hear the gospel as Jesus himself shared it.

Wise Up is designed to connect the teaching of Proverbs to God’s larger story of salvation. Children will learn that Solomon’s wisdom, life, and failures all point to “something greater than Solomon”—they point to Jesus. The goal of this devotional is to present the wisdom of Proverbs against the backdrop of the gospel to show children that real wisdom comes only as we depend on Jesus for daily help and forgiveness.
Long Story Short guides families through the Old Testament stories and is designed to cultivate honest and powerful discussion about the Bible, which is the catalyst for change in children’s lives. Through 78 Old Testament stories, Long Story  Short explains God’s plan of salvation through the Old Testament, focusing on the hero of Scripture and important biblical truths without being corny, confusing, or condescending.
Suited for children from preschool through high school, this gospel-focused book is full of ten-minute devotions to continue the gospel story that began in Long Story Short. The consistent and short structure helps children walk through the life-changing truths of the Christian faith in the New Testament—without overwhelming them. Through 78 New Testament stories, Old Story New does the hard work for moms and dads. Simple discussion questions (and answers!) for each day’s devotion help children understand and connect with Jesus’s life, death, resurrection, and the birth of the Christian church.

This beautifully illustrated storybook captivates young readers with the heart of the gospel. The Gospel Story Bible points to Jesus, helping families and kids identify Christ as the hero of every story. While it’s easy to forget Jesus in the midst of frantic schedules, family squabbles, and conflicting priorities, Machowski reminds families of God’s plan of salvation in Christ, which is continually on display throughout the Bible. Ideal as a storybook for your preschooler, a devotional for your grade school student, a refresher for the adult believer, or an introduction for the new one, The Gospel Story Bible is also a companion to Long Story Short and Old Story New.

In addition to these books for the entire family, the winners will also receive a new book of devotionals just for parents, and New Growth Press’ latest parenting book.

In this uplifting and faith-strengthening devotional book for parents, Marty Machowski encourages parents in the midst of trials. Full of Scripture, testimonies of faithful parents, and insightful meditations, Parenting First Aid equips moms and dads to run to God and trust his ability to do what they can’t. The easy-to-use format provides encouragement to turn to God in the midst of family difficulty. While God does not promise happiness and ease in parenting, all can find comfort in God and peace beyond understanding through the Scriptures and meditations found in Parenting First Aid.

Every family is unique, which is why Child Proof explores the need for parents to cultivate personal and intimate care for their children as modeled in God’s individual, personal, and fatherly care to his children. This child-rearing book lays a foundation of parenting by faith and progresses by teaching readers how they can know their own kids well and raise them accordingly. By discussing particular issues moms and dads might have in family life, Lowe demonstrates how formulas aren’t the answer, and parenting with biblical wisdom is best for a proactive rather than reactive approach to parenting.

Book Tour Grand Finale for
Miracles are Golden
By Catherine Lanigan

We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops

you can see snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:

Launch – Note from the Author

Miracles are Golden is a different kind of Christmas story in just about every manner of literary pre-conceptions a reader could have. To follow with that unique place it holds not only in my heart, but on the roster of books I have written, this PRISM BOOK TOUR is different as well…

It’s All About the Romance – Excerpt

Jimmy Longwood pressed his face against the pet store window, not minding the cold. On the other side of the glass was an eight-week-old Golden Retriever puppy that Jimmy had named “Bubblehead” because the puppy’s head was unusually large. Bubblehead was just as eager to see Jimmy and jumped over his five brothers and sisters to stand nose to nose with Jimmy.

Jimmy’s heart leapt just seeing the adorable puppy.

“Did you miss me, boy? I missed you. Now that school is out for the holidays, I can visit you every day for as long as I want.”

Andi’s Book Reviews – Excerpt

Jimmy glanced at the clock once more as he followed his father into the kitchen where he sat on a wrought iron Tuscan influenced bar stool. He leaned on the granite counter top watching his father hiding presents in the pantry.

“Did you talk to your mother?” John asked.

“We began a discussion about Bubblehead and again I reminded her that Grandpa and Grandma gave me a hundred dollars for my birthday this year which puts me over the top for enough money to buy Bubblehead. Which we can do, Dad, if you’ll just get your coat and hat…”

“Jimmy,” John sucked in a long breath to cool his frustration.

“No.”

Among the Reads – Excerpt

A good night’s sleep did not help Jimmy’s disposition or settle his fears by morning. His mind was overwhelmed with emergency last minute plans to rescue Bubblehead. Unfortunately, all of his plans were bizarre visualizations worthy only as segments of the Extreme Sports Network.

Because he was a long way from sixteen and did not know how to drive a car, legally or illegally for that matter, even if he did break the pet store window with a rock, steal Bubblehead and make his escape, he could not drive a getaway car.

He conjured up a scenario involving a SWAT team and a helicopter rescue. He thought of calling the Mayor on the phone and involving him in his “Save Bubblehead” campaign.

All my plans are doomed!

Wishful Endings – Excerpt

Jimmy picked up the remote and turned on the television. As luck would have it, the first thing he saw after the in-house cable program promoting the hotel’s features and restaurants, was a Christmas ad in which three Golden Retriever puppies knocked over a plant and the owner had to use a special vacuum to clean the mess. Jimmy threw the remote high in the air and caught it on its way back down. “It’s a sign!”

He raced to the adjoining door and closed off his parents’ laughter.

“Yes!” he said to himself, watching the adorable puppies with tags around their necks. “There isa Santa Claus. I just have to believe. Maybe I will get a miracle.”

Book Lover in Florida – Excerpt

Though they moved quickly, the wind gusted at ever increasing speeds thrusting the cloud of blinding snow down the slope. It threatened to overtake them.

John knew that if they didn’t beat the squall, they would have to find shelter until the snowstorm passed. There was no telling how long that could be. If they were to remain this high on the mountain overnight, they could freeze. Realizing their predicament was more dire than he’d originally thought. John slowed and motioned for them to take another route to the left. “We need to go around the squall,” he yelled to them.

But the wind suddenly seemed more than wind. It didn’t howl anymore, it thundered.

John slowed down for Jimmy and Melanie to catch up to him.

It was then Jimmy saw the panic on his father’s face. “What is it?”

E-Romance News – Excerpt

Even though he didn’t have a body, Jimmy felt tears. He felt incredibly sad. “I could have done more to be a better kid. I wish I’d been more…loving.”

“Wonderful, Jimmy. You’re understanding a great deal.”

Sadness engulfed Jimmy’s soul. “But I did love them… I just…”

“Took them for granted?” Mr. Angel asked.

“Uh, huh.”

“So you see, Jimmy, we must send you back to earth. You must learn to give love with all your heart. It’s the only reason souls go to earth.”

Rockin’ Book Reviews – Review

“This is a sweet story including one of the things I love a lot and that is dogs. . . . I highly recommend this book to other readers.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

There was a rustle of footsteps on the second floor. Jimmy heard voices.

“Do you think Santa has been here yet?” A woman’s voice said.

“Oh, yes, Mommy,” a weak, yet happy child’s voice replied.

“Well, come on, then,” a male voice said.

Jimmy looked up at the landing on the staircase and saw a mother, father and a child all dressed in flannel pajamas, robes and slippers descend the stairs. Behind this trio came an elegant woman dressed in an expensive red satin robe and matching satin slippers.

“I know Santa has been here, Robin and he’s brought something very special for you.”

“Oh, thank you, Mommy! Thank you, Daddy!” Robin hugged his parents with weak arms.

“Thank your Aunt Daphne. She brought him all the way from New York City for you,” Hal said.

There was nothing weak about the brightness of the little boy’s smile as he approached the fireplace, his hands outstretched to cuddle Jimmy.

“Robin, do you think Santa remembered it right?” The boy’s mother asked.

Robin, I like your name. It’s like Robin Redbreast. The first sign of spring. The new life.

Harlie’s Books – Excerpt & Review

The day after Christmas Jimmy was roused early, taken out the front door to potty in the bushes and then given breakfast, all before daylight.

What’s up with these people? Don’t they sleep in? What’s the rush?

“Here you go, Beau. Yum. Doesn’t this smell good?” Robin asked placing a dish of canned dog food in front of him.

Jimmy sniffed the food and jumped back.

They don’t expect me to eat this stuff do they? How about a rasher of that bacon? Or maybe a smidgeon of that hot cinnamon bun?

“…I loved this book. I think everyone should read it and discuss it with their family, friends, church group, etc. Ms. Lanigan could re-write the phone book and I would read it. Seriously. She is that good.”

Colorimetry – Excerpt

The impact of Robin’s emotions on Jimmy was like two spaceships colliding in a Star Trek episode. It rocked Jimmy’s psyche.

He needs me! Not even my parents in my other life ever acted like they needed me!

“I love you, Beau.”

I love you, Robin. Jimmy gulped back a puppy tear.

I’m thinking fast here, kid. I’m not gonna let this thing, whatever it is, beat you…er, us. You’ve got me now. We can do it.

Heidi Reads… – Excerpt

Suddenly, Jimmy’s mind went back to his time in heaven. The memories of some of the things he was taught there came back to him.

But now, it was as if his little puppy brain was going to burst with the effort. He thought and thought. But still he couldn’t remember what it was he was supposed to do.
