Out of the Embers by Amanda Cabot

51xb2L0gVzL._SY346_

Ten years after her parents were killed, Evelyn Radcliffe is once more homeless. The orphanage that was her refuge and later her workplace has burned to the ground, and only she and a young orphan girl have escaped. Convinced this must be related to her parents’ murders, Evelyn flees with the girl to Mesquite Springs in the Texas Hill Country and finds refuge in the home of Wyatt Clark, a talented horse rancher whose plans don’t include a family of his own.

At first, Evelyn is a distraction. But when it becomes clear that trouble has followed her to Mesquite Springs, she becomes a full-blown disruption. Can Wyatt keep her safe from the man who wants her dead? And will his own plans become collateral damage?

Suspenseful and sweetly romantic, Out of the Embers is the first in a new series that invites you to the Texas Hill Country in the 1850s, when the West was wild, the men were noble, and the women were strong.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

It’s the 1850’s Texas and Evelyn Radcliffe needs to run some errands for turn orphanage she has lived in for the past 10 years. Wanting to go with her, she decides to take six year old Polly with her. They returned back to the an orphanage of ruins after a fire had swept through. Was this arson? Was Evelyn suppose to die in the fire like her parents did. Was someone after her? Find out when you read this historical fiction by Amanda Cabot.

This story starts out quite sad, with Evelyn and Polly loosing everything and everyone they had. There was a lot if deep dark emotions as they deal with their loss. I grew to love Evelyn and Polly, their characters developed well as they started a new life. I loved the small town of Mesquite Springs and it’s caring people. It seems the perfect place for Evelyn and Polly, and the nice family helping them became a big part if the story. There is a lot going on here in this book. And the plot is interesting enough that you will want to keep reading to know the ending of the story. If you enjoy a good clean historical fiction, this is one you will enjoy. It’s a nice start to a new series.

A Stolen Heart by Amanda Cabot

A Stolen Heart by Amanda Cabot

ABOUT THIS BOOK

From afar, Cimarron Creek seems like an idyllic town tucked in the Texas Hill Country. But when former schoolteacher Lydia Crawford steps onto its dusty streets in 1880, she finds a town with a deep-seated resentment of Northerners–like her. Lydia won’t let that get her down, though. All will be well when she’s reunited with her fiancé. But when she discovers he has disappeared–and that he left behind a pregnant wife–Lydia is at a loss about what to do next. The handsome sheriff urges her to trust him, but can she trust anyone in this town where secrets are as prevalent as bluebonnets in spring?

Bestselling author Amanda Cabot invites readers back into Texas’s storied past to experience love and adventure against a backdrop of tension and mystery in this first book in a brand-new series.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is such a wonderful read! Lydia leaves NY and travels to Texas to meet her fiancé, who she finds out has left town as well as leaving his young pregnant wife. I’m not so sure I could have stayed in Texas knowing I had been rejected, as well as knowing how the Texas people feel about northerners. But instead of folding, and running back to NY, Lydia stays and is determined to make a life for herself.

I so much admire Lydia and her feisty determination to face the challenges ahead in her near future. I was so pleased with the towns people and even though suspicious of her at first, the did accept her and was willing to help. The entire story from beginning to end is full of pleasant surprises and twists and turns, the characters are fun to get to know, and the plot flows so well. This is one of those stories that I want to keep on my readers shelf to read again! I highly encourage you to pick up a copy to read for your enjoyment.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

With both parents avid readers, it’s no surprise that Amanda Cabot learned to read at an early age. From there it was only a small step to deciding to become a writer. Of course, deciding and becoming are two different things, as she soon discovered. Fortunately for the world, her first attempts at fiction, which included a play for her fifth grade class entitled “All About Thermometers,” were not published, but she did meet her goal of selling a novel by her thirtieth birthday. Since then she’s sold more than thirty novels under a variety of pseudonyms. When she’s not writing, Amanda enjoys sewing, cooking and – of course – reading.

CFBA Presents Promises to Cherish by Elizabeth Yount

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Promises to Cherish

Howard Books (October 7, 2014)

by

Elizabeth YountABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Elizabeth Byler Younts is a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers. She is an Air Force officer’s wife and a homeschooling mom with two young daughters. She makes her home wherever her family is stationed. Elizabeth was Amish as a child and after her parents left the church she still grew up among her Amish family and continues to speak Pennsylvania Dutch.

ABOUT THE BOOK

As World War II draws to a close, nurse Christine falls in love with roguish Amish boy Eli and must choose between a new, uncertain life in the Amish faith or face the judgment of a conservative postwar American society for her past mistakes.

It’s 1945, and Christine Freeman is a nurse at Hudson River State Hospital, where she works alongside members of a Civilian Public Service unit. Eli is one of the conscies—conscientious objectors to the war—and he is doing his best to become a man of character instead of the immature heartbreaker he used to be back home in his Amish community.

Christine and Eli are friendly, but when an old acquaintance, Jack, returns home from the war, Christine’s world is violently turned upside down. Eli, heartbroken to see his friend so hurt, offers her an escape within his Amish community. Despite her misgivings, Christine is fully embraced by Eli’s community. She slowly begins to feel valued and loved as she learns the Amish way of life.

Christine finds herself falling for Eli. But soon, the abusive Jack discovers Christine in her Amish hideaway and starts causing trouble for the quiet community. Christine can’t see herself becoming Amish, and she knows that if Eli leaves the church to be with her, he will be shunned. Will she escape Jack and possibly have to give up the one thing she holds most dear, or will she follow her heart and promise to cherish the Amish man who loves her?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I loved this book! It  is my first book by Elizabeth Yount, and I was pleasant surprised! This is an Amish story with a twist that makes it different from most Amish books I have read! I enjoyed getting to know Christine and Eli, and their time at the hospital and back home in Eli’s small Amish community! This is such a special heartwarming story, and it is one that I highly recommend!

Last Chance Hero

by Cathleen Armstrong

What happens when your heart is intercepted before you even know it’s in play?

The folks in Last Chance, New Mexico, could not be more pleased. Dr. Jessica MacLeod has opened an office right on Main Street and Andy Ryan, the best athlete the little town ever produced, has come home from the NFL to coach the high school football team. Unfortunately, Dr. Jess immediately gets off on the wrong foot with this football-obsessed town when she admits that she’s never seen a football game, isn’t really interested in doing so, and in fact doesn’t know a first down from a goalpost.

Despite having little in common, Jess and Andy find themselves drawn to each other. But when a disagreement over the future of an injured player puts them both on the defensive, it begins to look like this game is over . . .

Cathleen Armstrong lives in Orange County, California, with her husband, Ed, and their corgi. Though she has been in California for many years now, her roots remain deep in New Mexico. Her debut novel Welcome to Last Chance won the American Christian Fiction Writers Genesis Award for Women’s Fiction. She is also the author of One More Last Chance and At Home in Last Chance. Learn more at http://www.cathleenarmstrong.com.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Dr. Jessica MacLeod is the new Dr in Last Chance, New Mexico. Not realizing how much of a football town it was, Jessica let everyone know she didn’t know anything about football, had never been to a game. Which was not good for her. And to make matters worse, the Dr. is attracted to the towns high school football coach, who just happened to play for the NFL. Dr. Jessica better change her attitude about football or she could have problems in Last Chance. Even though I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I did the others in this series, it was still an enjoyable read. If nothing else, it sure tells you what happens when a new non-football person moves into a town crazy about their high school football team. Cathleen Armstrong weaves together a fun and entertaining story that will give readers several hours of good clean, enjoyable reading. This entire series is a wonderful set of books for you to add to your wish list!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Has Marisa St. George found the man or her dreams after moving back to her hometown of Dupree, Texas. Very successful and well known writer Blake Kendall decides to try hanging out at Rainbow’s End Resort for a while to see if it would help his writers block, that he couldn’t seem to get over. The attraction between Marisa and Blake was immediate, but then things started to come up that put a halt on that attraction, and their relationship was rocky one min and ok the next. This situation, along with everything else going on at Rainbow’s End Resort makes for a fun and entertaining story.

In Firefly Valley ,I loved reading about the characters I grew to love in the first book in this series, At Bluebonnet Lake, and meeting the new people traveling to the area! The relaxing atmosphere at the Rainbow’s End Resort and the quite town of Dupree, Texas makes this a light read, yet a story that deals with lives that were changed through forgiveness of each other and the love, forgiveness and redemption of our Lord. I want to encourage you to pick up a copy of In Firefly Valley for hours of relaxing, entertaining and fun. I think you will like this book as much as I did! This one goes on my keeper shelf!

Litfuse Presents When Grace Sings by Kim Vogel Sawyer

Litfuse Presents When Grace Sings
by Kim Vogel Sawyer

Plans for a secure future and the sweetness of young romance hang in the balance when Alexa and Anna-Grace have to face that their secrets are interconnected, binding the two in ways they could not have imagined. They must trust in a loving, heavenly Father and His plan for their futures.

Learn more and purchase a copy.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

After reading book one in this series, I will excited about reading When Grace Sings. Alexa is now running her B&B, Grace Notes at her grandmothers house. But she never thought she would be hosting her cousin, Anna-Grace Braun. Though Alexia knew the truth about what happened years ago, Anna-Grace had no idea. So when Alexia agreed to host Anna-Grace at the B&B, she was the one that had no idea how she could be in the same house together with Anna-Grace. And with hotshot Chicago reporter Briley Forrester nosing around trying to find out all he could about the Amish, things would get very testy at the B&B.

Another Kim Vogel Sawyer book that I love! My heart went out to Alexia because of her insecurity, but I don’t think she had a reason to be, because her grandmother was truly crazy about her. And Alexia had been a joy to the older woman’s life. The entire story is full of tension because of the close quarters in the house with the two young ladies and the grandma there. And Briley added more tension as well as fun to the story. You had to like Briley, even though he was annoying at times. You just have to read the this book to get the full effect. And I agree with other reviewers that several issues was left hanging, but I hope the third book in this series will take care of this.

Is bringing the truth to light worth risking all they’ve ever dreamed for their futures? Learn more and purchase a copy at Elizabeth’s website.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Anna and Luke were such an adorable couple, even though they didn’t think so themselves. Luke came from a rich but struggling family. His dad a heavy drinker and abuser. Anna’s life has been quite different, with her schedule pretty straight set, and her quiet life as a map librarian. This is the first time I’d read anything about a map librarian, never even heard of it, so this was quite interesting for me. Without all of the technology we have today, those people had a pretty neat way of finding seas and what they held.

This was such an amazing book, well written, the characters were amazing. Ms. Camden is such a talented writer and you can feel her talent in this wonderful heartfelt story. Although Luke Callahan was a goodlooking congressman, and an outspoken one at that, troubles of home were sure to come to surface sooner or later. Bringing more questions about this man Anna had grown quite fond of. Their relationship was pretty complicated, but the romance was sweet, and kept us all on our toes, wondering what would happen, if anything at all. This is a book you don’t want to miss. I have read all of Ms. Camden’s books, and each one gets better and better!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Miriam paints the future…but can she change it?

Chicago – 1890

Miriam watches the people jostle their way below the windows of her warehouse home, never thinking to look up at her as she paints their faces. But Miriam’s gift as an artist goes beyond a mere recording of what is: Miriam paints their futures. Only once was she wrong. One woman doesn’t match the future Miriam saw. The bright girl was supposed to grow into a respected businesswoman. Instead, Ione disappears nightly into the shadowed alley next to the cathedral with the other prostitutes. Then one night, while walking through the city fog, Miriam finds Ione broken and beaten. Miriam is forced to open her home to the stranger whose face she knows so well and open her life to change she never could have foretold. Women are missing—some found floating in the river, some never seen again. The deacon from the cathedral is the first to help. Soon Miriam’s solicitor, Michael, aids her in rejoining society so they might uncover the evil at work in the corrupt city…and awakens feelings she had never considered before. Finally engaged with the world she has so long observed, finally stirred by love and friendship, Miriam realizes the responsibility of her gifting. No longer can she just paint what will be. She must now help Ione find the future she is meant to have…and find her own along with it.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Wow! I knew this book had to be awesome when I saw the four amazing authors who writes these four novellas. Sincerely Yours is a sweet romance collection that I thoroughly enjoyed! Each of these authors bring their own unique writing style to each story, and I really can’t pick a favorite, because I loved them all! Each story was full of historical facts, information and details and I fell in love with each character as they played out their part in the story. And in addition to the history throughout each story, I really enjoyed the ending of each story where the author tells a bit more about the history behind the story they wrote. I just can’t say enough about each of these stories. And the one thing I love about a collection of novella’s, I can pretty much read one of the stories in one setting. So if you don’t have time for a full length book, this one is just what you need!

 “With Autumns ‘s Return”

by Amanda Cabot

Amanda Cabot

About This Book

She’s planning on instant success. She didn’t plan on love.

When Elizabeth Harding arrives in Cheyenne to open her medical practice, she is confident that the future is as bright as the warm Wyoming sun. Certain she’ll have a line of patients eager for her services, she soon discovers the town may not welcome a new physician–especially a lady doctor. Even Jason Nordling, the handsome young attorney next door, seems to disapprove of her chosen profession.

When a web of deceit among Cheyenne’s wealthiest residents threatens to catch Elizabeth and Jason in its snare, they must risk working together to save one of Elizabeth’s patients–even if it means falling in love.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Elizabeth Harding has a big surprise dumped on here when she opened her medical practice in her new hometown in Wyoming. She thought she would at least have a few patients, but it has been weeks, and still no one. And handsome neighbor Jason Nordling didn’t help at all either. Actually both of them got off on a really bad start. But how long with this doom last Elizabeth?

I really hate to see this series end. I was hoping for at least one more book about the Harding sisters and their move to Wyoming. This third book, With Autumns Return was a really fantastic read. I loved the characters, and as Elizabeth started getting to know the folks who were now her neighbors, she finds out just how the people of Cheyenne  lived. And it wasn’t until after many difficult situations that people really started realizing who Elizabeth was. I really liked the strength of the characters, and I especially enjoyed the quirky and sometime tense relationship between Elizabeth and Jason. The twists and turns in their relationship made the story a lot more fun to enjoyable to read. I really want to encourage you to pick up a copy of With Autumn’s Return to read and enjoy and if you want to read about all three sisters, I suggest checking out the first two book in this Westward Winds Series.

Endorsements

“From the first page I found myself rooting for the young widow, Charlotte, who’s trying to forge a life for herself in Cheyenne while also caring for a disabled son. My heart beat with worry as trouble from the past found her. And it pattered with hope as sweet Charlotte caught the eye of handsome Barrett. Amanda Cabot offers a delightful read, and as I turned the pages I was swept away with a story of love, courage, and sacrifice. Recommended!”–Tricia Goyer, bestselling author of 32 books, including Beyond Hope’s Valley “One thing I know to expect when I open an Amanda Cabot novel is heart. She creates characters that tug at my heartstrings, storylines that make my heart smile, and a spiritual lesson that does my heart good. Her stories are like the first sweet scents of spring–pure pleasure.”–Kim Vogel Sawyer, bestselling author of My Heart Remembers

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love this book inside and out! The cover is beautiful, with the lady in the gorgeous blue dress, just as a special dress Charlotte made in the story. And I thoroughly enjoyed Charlotte’s story. The mystery and suspense of the baron will keep you reading, whether you really have time to read or not, you just can’t put this book down. And speaking of the baron, he will make your skin crawl; yet you have to keep reading to find out all about him. And the sweet and adorable romance Amanda Cabot added will warm your heart for long after you finish reading this book!

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Celia Anderson doesn’t have a husband on her Christmas wish list. But when a traveling carpenter finds lodging at her boardinghouse, she admits that she might remarry if she found the right man–the kind of man who would bring her roses for Christmas. It would take a miracle, though, to find roses during a harsh Wyoming winter.

But Christmas, after all, is the time for miracles . . .

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Christmas Roses is a wonderful story about Celia Anderson. Celia is a single mom who runs a boarding house, providing for she and her daughter. She knows her daughter needs a dad, but doesn’t want to marry because of need, she wants a marriage of love. Well, then Mark comes into the picture!

This is a sweet, charming and heartwarming historical story that would be wonderful for everyone to read for Christmas. I love the beautiful cover, and the story just goes right along with what the cover shows. Amanda Cabot creates realistic and amazing characters to tell her Christmas story, and I enjoyed getting to know each character as the story unfolds. Around Christmastime I try to read all of the Christmas stories I can, and I am honored to read and review Christmas Roses. This is a story that will stay with you throughout the Christmas Season.

Book Blurb

Though she had planned to spend the summer in Vermont, Abigail Harding cannot dismiss her concerns over her older sister. Charlotte’s letters have been uncharacteristically melancholy, and her claims that nothing is wrong ring false, so Abigail heads west to Fort Laramie, Wyoming. When her stagecoach is attacked, Wyoming promises to be anything but boring. Luckily, the heroics of another passenger, Lieutenant Ethan Bowles, save the day.

Abigail plans to marry when she returns to Vermont, just as soon as she attends to her sister. As the summer passes, she finds herself drawn to this rugged land and to a certain soldier determined to persuade her to stay. When summer ends, will she go back East, or will she find her heart’s true home?

My Thoughts on this Book!

Wow, I Love, Love this book! At first I wasn’t so sure, but the more I read, the more I was drawn into this story. Abigale Harding was fun and interesting character and showing up at Fort Laramie, Wyoming to spend the summer with her sister was just suppose to be for the summer. But would she be able to leave her sister, her students at the fort, the land that she had grown to love and especially Ethan? But she had promised herself to Woodrow back home, or had she?

Amanda Cabot weaves an intriguing and adventurous story with characters that will capture your heart in “Summer of Promise.” Expect a little bit of everything when you read this wonderful story. You will experience stage coach robberies, rattle snakes (yuck) and bravery, deception and lies, love and romance, heartbreaks and heartaches, along with everything else that goes on in a fort full of men, some things good, and some things not so good. One thing for sure, Abigale showing up at the fort stirred up a lot of things in Wyoming.

If you are a historical fiction person, this is a must read for you. For all others, you will love this book no matter what genre you like. Go out and grab a copy to read and enjoy for yourself.
