MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Grady was orphaned a at young age with the death of his parents and was raised by his grandparents. After their death, he was raised by his young uncle Leo. Not connecting with many people in middle school, Grady found Aarush to be a good friend for him. The book unfortunately deals will a topic I really hate for kids and that is bullying. I lost a 12 year old distant cousin, who took her own life to bullying so it is something I hate among kids. But thankfully for Grady and Aarush formed a friendship that lasted through middle school to high school at the interesting super hero high school Templeton Academy.

I enjoyed this story so very much. I enjoyed following Grady and Aarush as they tackled what school thew at them. I was impressed with their intelligence, and it was fun keeping up with the two friends. If you enjoy these type of clesn Young Adult stories, I highly recommended Grady Whill and the Templeton Codex. And if you have tweens or teens who enjoy YA Fantasy and Super Hero stories, this is a fantastic one to purchase for them. I’m giving this one Five Stars.

Narrator Dan McGowan does a very nice job with this book. The voice fit the story and anyone listening will get the feel of high school age kids. I look forward to listening to more book which <span;>Dan McGowan is the narrator.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Excerpt

I’d like to say that life improved, but I’d be telling you a lie. Elwood Bledsoe continued to bully Aarush. While Aarush constantly cautioned me to rein in my reaction to him, I could not. It landed me in two more detentions, and the last one finally cost me my job at the supermarket where I bagged groceries.

“You’re coming for dinner,” Aarush informed me one afternoon.

I shook my head. “Can’t.”

Aarush neatly packed his brown bag with unfinished food and said, “You have to come over. You’re not working. Tonight they are announcing the winners of the Find My Power Essay on television. Devon Neely has to win. Imagine losing your sight and learning— ”

“Aarush, they’ll never accept a blind kid.”

“They took that girl Lydia,” he blurted.

They had indeed.

“She’s not blind,” he retorted.

I raised my eyebrow. She hardly looked like someone people expected to make it into the Temple. All I could recall was she seemed most unremarkable. Most of the kids who were accepted had a rare talent. They could run the fastest or do math without a pen or paper. I couldn’t remember what made her special.
