MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

20191102_202511

I love Bibles and Devotions for children, I think it is so important to have the books and Bibles and Devotions that kids will want to read. And this little Devotional is precious. The devotions are two pages, but with a large font and a picture, so you can see it’s not long at all. Each starts with a verse, the devotions that go with the verse, then there is a prayer to pray with your little one. After that, one or two questions about the devotions has been included so you can interact with your child more. The stories are from both the Old and New Testaments. There are 90 devotions in all.

I love everything about this book of devotions. The pinks and purples are so pretty, the pictures are childlike, and the characters are as cute as can be. Any little girl age 2 to 7 will be grabbing this one from the shelves. And really, I think you can read this to even younger children. And your 8 year old may like to read the devotions for herself. I highly recommend Night Night Devotions to anyone that has a young girl in their lives. This would make a wonderful Christmas gift.

Litfuse Presents……God Made All of Me: A Book to Help Children Protect Their Bodies By Justin and Lindsey Holcomb

ll

About the Book
God Made All of MeGod Made All of Me: A Book to Help Children Protect Their Bodies (New Growth Press, September 2015)

“God made every part of you!”

It’s easy to convey the message to children that their bodies—or particular parts of their bodies—are shameful. This misconception fuels confusion, embarrassment, and secrecy, and often prevents children from recognizing or reporting sexual abuse.

God Made All of Me is a simply-told, beautifully-illustrated story to help families talk about these sensitive issues with two- to eight-year-old children. Because the private parts of our bodies are private, the home is the ideal environment where a child should learn about his or her body and how it should be treated by others.

God Made All of Me starts from the fundamental truth that God created everything and applies that truth—the doctrine of creation—to kids and their bodies. It equips parents to talk with both boys and girls about their bodies and to help them understand the difference between the appropriate and inappropriate touch of others. God Made All of Me allows families to build a first line of defense against sexual abuse in the safety of their own homes.

God Made All of Me is the first children’s book written by Rid of My Disgrace authors Justin and Lindsey Holcomb. Parents of young children themselves, the Holcombs regularly counsel victims of sexual abuse and are profoundly aware of the dangers kids face. Their simple and relatable story, designed to help children protect their bodies, will be an important resource for every family with young children.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is definitely a special and unique book, a book that is very much needed for all parents. God Made All Of Me gives parents a unique way to teach their children about their bodies, and how to handle their bodies. Sexual abuse is so scary, and it is sad that so many children are victims, and if this book keeps one child from that abuse, it is worth it all. Teaching children that God made all of them, every part of their bodies for a specific reason, and teaching them to protect themselves from abusers is what God Made All Of Me is about.

I encourage every parent to buy this book, follow the suggestions of the authors, Justin and Lindsey Holcomb, who have small children themselves, and go through this book with your child. It may save a lot of heartache for you and your child.

Write Now Lit Virtual Book Tour…… Presents ..Grandma How do you know God is Read by Lorita Kelsey Childress

gma-book

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Grandma, how do you know God is real? is about a six-and-half-year-old girl named Kendra who spends a few weeks of her summer vacation with her Grandma. One bright and sunny morning Kendra awakens and asks her Grandma how does she know God is real? Grandma takes Kendra on adventure throughout the neighborhood to show her all of the reasons why she knows God is real.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Kendra has a question for her grandmother and grandfather, and that is, “How do you know God is real?”

And I love the way Grandma answered Kendra. Instead of just telling her a story, her grandmother shows her starting with her breakfast, in her room, at the park and through nature. Of course Grandaddy had to stay home and mow the grass because he wasn’t sure he wanted to answer Kendra’s question.

What an awesome way to teach a child about God! I really enjoyed taking this journey with Kendra and her grandmother for the day as Kendra learned just how real God really is. Kendra is an adorable little girl, and I she and her grandparents had a sweet relationship, and you can tell they enjoyed being together. This is a precious story that I highly recommend especially to grandparents with small grandchildren. It shows how to teach your children about God in a fun unique way and they are sure to remember your time together. And the beautiful illustrations fit so well with the story, helping children to understand the story so much better.

My Thoughts on this Book!

This book follows the life of Lily, an Amish young girl who learns all of the things an Amish girl learns from her family while growing up on an Amish farm. Things such as cooking, sewing, planting and growing a garden and canning, cleaning and taking care of a house. Lily also gets to help care for the animals in the barn and around the house. Then she goes to school, which is very different from her life at home, with a new teacher and new friends.

What a sweet and charming story of Lily and fun and exciting adventures through life. We follow Lily as life goes on, her family grows and through the life changes she faces. Author Suzanne Woods Fisher creates sweet and fun characters and an interesting and fun story that makes this book one that young girls will want to read. I love this idea of having a series of books for this age group, to introduce the younger generation reading at its best. My Ten year old niece has been asking me for good books to read, and this one will sure go to her. Thank you Suzanne Woods Fisher for an awesome series for young girls, one that will teach them to live their lives for Jesus!

Pookster and the Unloose Tooth/Pookster and the Practically Perfect Pickle

Pookster and the Unloose Tooth  by Rhonda Funk

Pookster could hardly wait to for her two front teeth to come loose because she wanted so bad to sing “All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth. And well, it finally happened. Then she really wasn’t so happy that she was toothless.

This is such a cute book about a child loosing teeth, and the importance of letting them fall out on their own. Being on a child’s level of learning, the young reader can identify losing a tooth with the need to be patient and wait on the Lord. This is a very well written little story and with the awesome comic pictures and fonts use, this makes a loveable teaching story that will surely capture the interest of any young reader.

The words are clear enough that any child can understand them…and the pictures are great enough that children can understand the story through pictures. I really can’t say enough about this adorable book! I think you fill fall in love with it just as I did!  And you even get a CD to go along with it. It just doesn’t get any better than this!!

I recommend this book to any family with young children, because all children are going to lose their teeth at some time, and what child doesn’t need to be taught patience?

And this has nothing whatsoever to do with the books, except that this is the author singing a beautiful song. I just heard it for the first time today. Though you may want to play it while you are reading the reviews. Very powerful song!

Pookster and the Practically Perfect Pickle  By Rhonda Funk

. Pookster loves pickles, even though they look like frog skins. (Never heard this before but the actually do!) One day while playing with her pickles, she yelled and said some bad things to her brother. Her mom reminded her that pickles can be pretty but they were sour, and that Pookster was pretty but sometimes she says sour things.

This is an adorable story about pickles to teach young readers about using sweet words instead of sour words when talking to others. I think adults could relate to this story as well, and remember that sometimes even though we seem nice, we can also say things that hurt people.

The funny comic pictures are just adorable, and the font just goes prefect with the story and the pictures. This book and the first one in the series is the sweetest and well put together books I’ve read for children. It is strikingly adorable….from the pictures to the font to the colors used to the story itself, you will just fall in love with Pookster and her family. And you get a CD to go with the book as well, and as I said before, it just doesn’t get any better than this!

This Little Prayer of Mine by Anthony DeStefano Illustrated by Mark Elliot

This Little Prayer of Mine  by Anthony DeStefano
Illustrated by Mark Elliot

This is a book of children praying to God about things in their life. Some of the things they are praying to God about is fear, sadness, making the right choices, forgiveness, being alone, helping people, and their future. I like that this book is teaching the young reader that God is in Heaven and they can pray to Him about anything at anytime and He can her them. The pictures are beautiful, the cover is beautiful, inviting any child to pick up the book to pray.

I did not care for the last page where the child is asking God again to continue to love him and love him forever. Isn’t what God does anyway? He loves us no matter what, and a child doesn’t need to feel like God will stop loving him at some point. It’s just not the truth. If the gospel had been included in this little prayer book, it would be perfect.

Slippery Willie’s Stupid Ugly Shoes by Larry Peterson Book Review

Willie’s Slippery Feet Book Review

Slippery Willie Synopsis:
Willie Wiggles hates his slippery feet. He just slips, slides and spins all over the place.
But what he hates even more are the special shoes that have been made for him that will
help him to walk just like all the other kids. Willie thinks that they are the “stupidest, ugliest
shoes in the whole world.”
Discover how sometimes we worry about things about ourselves when actually there is
nothing to worry about in the first place.

My Review

Willie had a problem that no one, not even his Doctor could figure out what was wrong. His feet were so slippery his socks and shoes would not stay on his feet. So finally special shoes were ordered for Willie, and his feet would not be slippery while wearing them. I really felt sorry for Willie. He just did not want to wear those shoes, even if they did help him not to slip and slide. He didn’t want to go through the embarrassment of everyone at school and everyone he would be around to and from school laughing at his stupid shoes. Just what was he going to do about these shoes? Could he really wearing them to school, or would he rather slip and slide his way around? Would mom make him wear them, or would she understand?

This is a really cute story teaching children about peer pressure, and teaching then what can happen to them when they worry too much. It shows a child that is ok to be different, and especially when it something that will be helpful to them. This book is well written and simple for children to understand. And the graphics are awesome! What is a children’s book without really good graphics? They are essential to the story, making the story more dramatic so the child can better understand what he or she is reading. The pictures themselves tell the story in a well illustrated book as this one.

Since all children will face being different at some time or another, I feel this book would be good for any child. It is wonderful to have books like Willie’s Slippery Feet to read to you child even before he faces being different around his or her friends. And the pictures will make the lesson more clear for them as well

Children’s Book Red in the Flower Bed Review

Red in the Flower Bed Book Review

Red in the Flower Bed is a wonderful illustrated children’s story about interracial adoption. It uses the example of a poppy seed falling to the grown and wasn’t wanted, and the wind carrying it away to a place that it was wanted and could grow. And even though this poppy seed would be different, it would grow into a beautiful flower among the other flowers in the garden.

I was very blessed to grow up in a community with as many blacks as whites, and even more blessed to have parents and grandparents that instilled in us to love and respect everyone regardless of their color.  How sad for someone who is not accepted because they are different. This wonderful book shows children that we can be beautiful and useful no matter how different we are. And also be needed, just as this poppy flower was needed to make up the red for the rainbow! I recommend this book for parents to read to their children, even if there are not adopted children in the family. All children at some point in the small lives will come in contact with children that are adopted, or that is different.

A special thank you to Tribute Books for a pdf copy of this book to review.  But even though you can see the pictures and colors in the e-copy, I think the printed copy would be much better!!

Understanding that God is all around us is an incredible and awe inspiring realization. What’s even more amazing is that He is not some distant entity but is instead a personal God. As such, we can come to Him in prayer, sharing our hopes, dreams and desires as well as our regrets, mistakes and sorrows. Moreover, anytime and anywhere, we can offer up our thanksgiving and praise as we seek to worship Him always.
Scripture tells us to, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thes. 5.16-18) To this end, our second book addresses the question, “When can I talk to God?” The quick answer is, “Whenever, Wherever, Anytime, Anywhere!”
That’s When I Talk To God, using the same beautiful illustrations and scenery, will take you through a day in the life of a little girl as she finds one opportunity after another and one reason after another to pray to God. But even more exciting, she discovers that God talks to her too!

My Review

This is the sweetest little book for children. The mom explains to her small child that she can talk to God anywhere, anytime about anything. She encourages her to start the next morning praying to God during the day. As she looks out the window the next morning, she sees flowers, blue sky, clouds, and realizes she can tell God she loves Him, and thank him for making the beautiful things outside her window. As he goes throughout her day, she finds many more things she can pray about. Whether she is thanking God or asking Him to help her.

I love the way the authors explain each thing that children can pray about. That sometimes they can thank God for things, and sometimes they can pray for Him to help them. And the illustrations are beautiful, and help reinforce what the story is telling the child. This is a wonderful way to help children understand what prayer is. I read this book several times to my 2 year old niece, and though I thought the book was a bit old for her, she still loved it, and wanted me to read it over and over. After I finished reading it to her, she sat and looked at the pictures for a while. I think it would better fit 5 to 6 year olds, but younger children understand more than you think!

A huge Thank You to Publisher: David C. Cook and to B&B Media Group for providing this free book for review. I was not required to write a positive review of this book. The opinions are mine alone.
