It’s Beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

I love the snow pictures that we always see around the Holidays. They seem to get you in the Christmas spirit a little better. But we still need to remember the real meaning for this special and precious time of the year.

Rediscover the Holy Art of Reading
By Zondervan
Published by Zondervan

Book Description

In the same spirit of Bible reading in the early church, the NIV Sola Scriptura Bible Project removes chapter and verse numbers, red letters, and cross references found in modern Bibles. The Old Testament is arranged according to traditional Hebrew ordering, and the New Testament is reorganized, placing each of the four Gospels as sectional heads.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Having never read anything but the Bible we have today, broken down with the chapters and verses, this was an altogether different way of Bible read for me. The Bible here is broken down into four different books:

The Torah and Former Prophets (Genesis through Kings)
The Latter Prophets
The Writings
The New Testament

Chapter and verse numbers have been omitted and there are no footnotes, section headings or additional materials allowing you to read the Bible without stopping your flow of reading. The books have been placed in an order that the editors feel will help readers understand them better.

As I said, there is no numbered chapters or verses, and this Bible version isn’t broken down into different sections, so there is no headings. There’s nothing to stop you, like study tools and other verses about the certain topic. It’s like reading a novel, and I very much enjoyed reading what I have if it. I will read it straight through next year, just like it is written. It will be a fun, enjoyable and a very good learning experience.

This set of the Bible is one every Christian could benefit from. I highly encourage you to check out this set, The NIV, The Sola Scriptura Bible Project: The Complete Collection.

Imperfect Justice by Cara Putman

This is the way legal thrillers are meant to be—compelling, intelligent, and deeply satisfying.” —Randy Singer, author of Rule of Law

THE POLICE SAY THE WOMAN WAS A MURDERER. EMILIE WESLEY KNOWS THEY CAN’T BE TALKING ABOUT HER CLIENT . . . CAN THEY?

To the world it seems obvious: Kaylene Adams killed her daughter and then was shot by police. Attorney Emilie Wesley knows a different story: Kaylene would never hurt anyone and was looking for a way out of a controlling, abusive relationship. Her death shakes Emilie’s belief that she can make a difference for women in violent marriages. Self-doubt plagues her as she struggles to continue her work in the wake of the tragedy.

Reid Billings thought he knew his sister—right up until he learned how she died. He discovers a letter from Kaylene begging him to fight for custody of her daughters if anything should happen to her. No attorney in her right mind would support an uncle instead of the father in a custody case, but Kaylene’s letter claims Emilie Wesley will help him.

Thrown together in a race to save Kaylene’s surviving daughter, Emily and Reid pursue the constantly evasive truth. If they can hang on to hope together, can they save a young girl—and find a future for themselves in the process?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The police, and everyone else think it is a cut and dry murder, but Attorney Emily Wesley knows that her friend Kaylene Adams would never take the life of one daughter and shoot the other one. It had to be something with her abusive husband, but he was acting the perfect dad with his daughter that survived. The only person who knew the real answer was the surviving daughter. But no one could get close to her because of her father.

Imperfect Justice was a very intriguing and compelling story to read. Though the murders looked cut and dry, after reading a bit of the story it was pretty clear to me it wasn’t as the police thought. As the evidence starts changing, tension gets tight with Emily and Kaylene’s brother Reid. It seems at times the real truth will never be exposed, but author Cara Putman does a fantastic job weaving all of the pieces of this story together and giving us readers a fantastic legal thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat! There’s s lot going on in the book, but if I tell any more it will ruin it for you so I will just say, if you enjoy thrillers, Written by Attorneys, this is a book you do not want to miss!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Annie’s life was prefect, with her reality show and the perfect boyfriend. But then she finds out that life isn’t as perfect as it seems. She soon finds herself at an Amish inn, and then her life really did change.

It’s always fun to read about someone living life in the fast lane somehow ends up around Amish people. And this is what happened to Annie. The relationship she forms with the owner of the inn was sweet to watch develop. As well as meeting others around the Amish community. And of course there’s always Romance, which played a sweet part of the story. A story that is pretty predictable, but I like that sometimes, being able to know what’s coming. The thing is, wondering how the author will play it all out. And Ms. Ferrell does a very nice job of weaving it all together and creating a wonderful warm, and yes sweet story for all of us to enjoy! I encourage you to pick up a copy of Runaway Romance for a few hours of enjoyment!

About the Author

I love life, love my family, love writing Christian fiction–reading, riding my horse and puttering in my garden are all ways I relax. I often have my little 7 lb Chihuahua, Lacey, on my lap when I’m working–there’s nothing like a warm ball of love on your lap to act as a stress reliever!

First and foremost I’m a child of God and daughter of the King. I’ve been involved in women’s ministries for years, I’m married to a wonderful man, have two grown children, two cats, two dogs, 10 chickens and ride my son-in-law’s Arabian mare since my old mare passed in 2013. We live about 9 miles from the nearest town on 11 acres, in a peaceful setting surrounded by trees.

I started writing shortly after I turned 50, and discovered I loved it so much I don’t want to stop. I have 15 novels out & a five book set of horse novels for middle-grade girls. I write both women’s contemporary fiction, historical & contemporary romance, and horse/mystery novels for girls. One of my Western romances, Love Finds You in Sundance, WY, was awarded the Will Rogers Medallion for Western Fiction, three books have been optioned as movies, and several books have been on the ECPA best seller list. Guest Post from Miralee Ferrell

In the spring of 2015, I received an email from a Hollywood producer, followed by a phone call. Imagine my surprise when she asked if I’d be willing to write a book for them. They were no longer producing the Love Finds You books into movies and were working on a different project for UP TV, a possible three-movie series, and she hoped I might be able to work with them. She explained that she’d optioned Love Finds You in Sundance, Wyoming, two or three years earlier, and loved it. Of the thirty-five or so titles she’d read of the line, that was her favorite. However, UP TV didn’t want to make historical or old west movies, so she’d shelved it for now.

During that time period, I’d gotten my rights returned to all of my LFY books and had retitled them Finding Love in Last Chance, California, Finding Love in Tombstone, Arizona, and Finding Love in Bridal Veil, Oregon. Sundance became Outlaw Angel, and all four are still in print.

Here’s the amazing part. I came very, very close to turning down that contract offer with Summerside for Sundance. I was disappointed in the advance and royalty rate, and shortly after they released it, they sold the line to Guideposts, and that company didn’t continue the line much longer. Understandably, sales waned on their final releases, and I was disappointed with my sales from that final book as my others had done quite well. For a long time, I wished I hadn’t taken that contract and instead held out for one with another company for a three-book series. However, had I done that, I doubt Runaway Romance would ever have been written. It was Sundance that grabbed Chevonne’s attention and caused her to contact me. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Christy (50th Anniversary Edition) (Evergreen Farm, October 2017)
New edition of Catherine Marshall’s inspirational classic!
The train taking nineteen-year-old teacher Christy Huddleston from her home in Asheville, North Carolina, might as well be transporting her to another world. The Smoky Mountain community of Cutter Gap feels suspended in time, trapped by poverty, superstitions, and century-old traditions.
But as Christy struggles to find acceptance in her new home, some see her — and her one-room school — as a threat to their way of life. Her faith is challenged and her heart is torn between two strong men with conflicting views about how to care for the families of the Cove.
Yearning to make a difference, will Christy’s determination and devotion be enough?

My thoughts on this book

I so much enjoyed reading this 50th Anniversary of the classic and so well written book Christy. Catherine Marshall was a master storyteller, and with this book, wrote the story about her mother, making this an even more intriguing read. In Christy, as Ms. Marshall’s own mother left home at the age of 19, moving to North Carolina Mountains, so did main  fictional character Christy Huddleston. Fulfilling a need in her own life, Christy gives up her own life of luxury to a life of hard labor under the most difficult of circumstances in order to do her mission.

As the Mountain people grew in Christy, so they did on my as well. They took primitive to a whole new level, the true meaning of primitive. I never knew the horrible, horrific life these people lived. At some times I had to skim over the worst of it. But this is a book everyone should read. It will sure leave you being so very thankful for what you have. These were hard people living a hard difficult life. But in the mist of it all, there was such a hunger for learning, and it was so wonderful to  read this. There is so much in this book there is no way to start describing it all. So I highly recommend Christy to everyone! This is a book that everyone needs to read at least once in their lifetime! However there is one thing that is just so sad, and I can’t get it off my mind. And that it, with all the death these people were forced to endure, the preacher there could not answer their questions about what happened after death. And where their loved one was now that they were gone. So sad that people hungry for answers and for the truth, they couldn’t find it in the man sent there to tell them about Jesus.
