Author: Rachel Marie Martin

Publisher: WaterBrook

Release Date: October 9, 2018

Genre: Christian Living/Women’s Interest

Full-time FindingJoy.net blogger, speaker, marketer, podcaster, and single mom of seven, Rachel Marie Martin presents a wake-up call to those of us who have found ourselves stuck in the ‘I’m just a mom’ phase of life.

Yes, this book is about motherhood . . . but really, this book is about finding yourself again and following your passion WHILE being a mom. Inspired by her incredible story, Rachel’s words always come straight from the gut; they are visceral, real and soul searching. She challenges you to find the courage to break cycles, to take off masks and not let fear take control. This book is a balance of tough, “no excuses” ways of approaching life, while allowing breathing room and grace for yourself, for as we all know, life and mothering are not perfect.

After inspiring and conversing with thousands of women, Rachel has surmised there is always a reason to hope, to move forward and a reason to dare doing what you thought was impossible. (Yes, including what you are skeptical of accomplishing right now). She encourages you to say yes to your dreams and stop waiting for “someday” or “one day” or “when something happens”.

Prepare to change the way you think about yourself and your life. This will be a book you read over and over armed with a highlighter in one hand and a journal for introspection in another.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

It is so refreshing to read an awesome sweet romance that just warms your heart. And that’s how I feel about Vannetta Chapman’s new book “A Perfect Amish Match”. Olivia Miller is known as a matchmaker in her community and she’s pretty good at it too. So when Noah Graber comes to town, he decides he wants to take matchmaking lessons from Olivia. The only thing was, he was never expecting what was going to happen, and neither did Olivia.

I enjoyed every minute of this book. I just loved Olivia, with her sweet and caring way. And I was so in hopes she and Noah would hurry up and get over their proper meetings and figure out that they were in love. The journey with these two beautiful and loveable characters was so worth the time, and the characters were so very realistic, I fel as though they were in my living room most of the time!!

This might be a little book but it explodes with excitement as soon as you open its pages! This book was given to me by the author. I was not required to write a review whether it was positive or not. The opinions here in this review are mine only.

RES-Q Tyler Stop by June McCrary Jacobs

Welcome to the Blog Tour & Giveaway for RES-Q Tyler Stop by June McCrary Jacobs with JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Title: RES-Q Tyler Stop

Series: Tyler Stop, Book 1

Author: June McCrary Jacobs

Publisher: JMJ Story Stitcher Books

Release Date: April 22, 2019

Genre: Middle Grade Historical Fiction

It’s the summer of 1968 in Sonoma County, California, and eleven-year-old Weston Gregg and his nine-year-old sister, Wendy, are looking for fun things to do during their summer break from school. When they discover some abandoned rabbits, they hatch an idea to make a positive difference for animals and people in their small town of Tyler Stop.

They decide to form ‘Rescue Each Species-Quickly’, or RES-Q Tyler Stop.

There are challenges to face as they move forward into their new venture, including standing up to someone who is targeting Weston’s friends for being different and a painfully bad decision.

Will Weston have to handle these issues on his own or will he learn to accept the advice and wisdom shared by some important people in his life? Join Weston and his family and friends as they share some adventures and learn and grow together in RES-Q Tyler Stop.

PRAISE FOR THE BOOK:

“Adventure has no end in this tale, where a heart for animals inspires and surprises await around every bend. . . . The characters and the situations they face come across realistic, and the scenes develop naturally. Not only does the author keep a nice paced plot rolling along but adds interesting and practical information about animals and ways to handle certain situations along the way. It makes for a fun mix of fiction and fact.

This appears to be the first book in the series, and I’m eager to see where the RES-Q Tyler Stop adventures will head to next.” ~ Tonja Drecker, Author of Music Boxes

SPOTLIGHT OF THIS BOOK

CHAPTER THREE

Foster Family

When they turned into their driveway, Diamond barked and ran around in circles. Weston woke up and yawned. He nudged Wendy to wake her up and mumbled, “We’re home.”

Dad pulled the truck under the shade of a huge oak tree near their house. Both children snapped off their seatbelts and stretched.

“Wendy, take Diamond to her pen for a few minutes until she settles down. I don’t want her to upset the rabbits with her noise and excitement. Weston, go get seven large towels from the rag bin in the shed. We’re going to soak the towels in cold water and then hang them over each pet carrier, including Ruby’s.”

“Got it, Dad. And thanks for letting Wendy and me be foster parents to the rabbits. I promise we won’t let you and Mom or the rabbits down.”

Dad ruffled his son’s thick brown hair and said, “You’ve proven you can be trusted, Weston. Your word is as good as gold to me.”

When he heard his dad’s words, Weston felt pride swell in his heart. Almost nothing made Weston feel better than to please his dad.

He cleared his throat.

“I’ll go get those towels now, Dad.”

The three of them set up the damp towels for the rabbits. Wendy filled every animal’s water bottle with cool water from the extra refrigerator they stored in the shed. They set up Ruby’s cage at the end of the row of foster rabbits.

Weston washed lettuce leaves and carrots for the rabbits and Emerald, the turtle, and brought them out to his father. Diamond and Pearl were given their favorite pet foods and some cool water, and things soon settled down in the pet section of the yard.

The afternoon heat was stifling, so the family went inside to sit in front of the fan and relax. Dad read a book while Weston and Wendy played several games of checkers and Go Fish. Around four, Dad stood up.

“Let’s start dinner for your mother since she’s worked all day and didn’t get to go out for burgers.”

“I like helping in the kitchen,” Weston said.

“Ew. Boys are not supposed to like cooking!”

“Wendy, I’m surprised at you. You know your papa does all the cooking at their house, and I love to help out with meals, too. We’re both just grown-up boys.”

Wendy blushed and turned to her brother.

“Sorry about that, Weston.”

“It’s all right. Maybe I’ll grow up to be a chef, so now’s the perfect time to start learning.”

“I learned to cook before I met your mother. It’s a good thing, too, or I would have starved while I was a bachelor.”

Everyone chuckled as they washed their hands and put on their aprons.

“What should we make?” Weston asked.

“I think a crisp, cold salad would hit the spot today,” Dad said.

“Yeah. We could add some cold tuna fish salad and boiled eggs to it,” Wendy added.

“Let’s check out the fridge to see what your mother has left in there for us.”

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Even though this is written for the younger audience, I thoroughly enjoyed this book myself. I love mysteries and all of these stories were a different mystery, each one featuring Bailey as the main character, along with the Club Camp Girls helping solve the mysteries. Each of these stories are short so you can easily read them in one or two settings. From the Elk in Estes Park to the Mermade show in Florida, adding the two stories in between, you will fall in love with these characters just as I did! This is such a fun book to read with your teenager, then you can follow along and solve the mysteries with your child, or just for yourself.
I appreciate the author, through Baily, making sure the gospel is told in this book. And it’s done so in a nice subtle way. A copy of this book was provided by Barbour Books and their Blog Tour P hurry and the author for me to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Life takes on a fast turn of events for both Christina and her brother when Christina’s fiancee dumped her. Now she has no choice but to head west with her brother and his two kids. This story takes some interesting turns as this family joruney’s across the US. Caryl McAdoo creates interested characters that fascinates me and keeps me interested in the plot throughout the story. I really enjoyed Christina’s character, and felt she added so much to the story. Especially with the two completely opposite men who have been in her life. The cover of this book is beautiful,  and I appreciate the way Ms. McAdoo makes mention of the Christian life in the lives of her characters.

This is a story I encourage you to check out. I hope you will enjoy this one as much as I did. A copy of this book was provided by the author/publisher for me to read and review. The opinions here are mine only. I was not ask to write a positive review.

About the Author

CarylMcAdoo-716x10240

Award-winning author Caryl McAdoo prays her story brings God glory, and her best-selling novels—over forty published—delight Christian readers around the world. The prolific writer also enjoys singing the new songs the Lord gives her—listen to a few at YouTube. Sharing four children and eighteen grandsugars with Ron, her high-school-sweetheart-husband of fifty years, she lives in the woods south of Clarksville, seat of Red River County in far Northeast Texas. The McAdoos wait expectantly for God to open the next door.

More from Caryl

I’m so excited about this year’s Lockets and Lace story! I’ve fallen in love with its characters. Asher and his sister Christina, his girls Samantha and Patricia, and his friend, Ethan Cord is certainly a man’s man though he has a checkered past to overcome.

His wife dies in childbirth, leaving him with two little girls, then when his parents pass, too, what’s to tie Asher Adams to New York?

His younger sister Christina is about to be settled into her new life, married and well cared for, so there’s nothing holding the wine merchant back from his dreams of owning a vineyard in the Napa Valley. He decides a new life in the west is the best thing for him and his daughters.

Then at the last minute, the family is turned upside down when the rogue engaged to Christina dumps her and calls the wedding off. Asher’s already sold the brownstone. She suddenly has nowhere to go and no one to watch over her if he leaves.

She never wanted to, but he insists her only choice is to go with them, accompany him and her nieces and make her new life in California . . . and he knows the perfect man for her, too!

One thing I love about this book is that as it draws to its end in Saint Joseph, Missouri, a new young woman is introduced, Remi, and her book—my May ‘Prairie Roses Collection’ story REMI—continues with the Adams family and segues into a new romance!

I hope readers will love that as well, praying my story gives God glory!

A Hero for Miss Hatherleigh By Carolyn Miller

A Hero for Miss Hatherleigh

by

Carolyn Miller

AFFAA964-346F-4376-8B4D-A66BEBEB101F

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Can a very proper noble lady find a future with a fossil-hunting man of faith?

As the daughter of Viscount Aynsley, Caroline Hatherleigh knows every rule of society—and she’s always followed them precisely. It’s simply the way things are done in her world. When she visits south Devonshire and encounters a fossil-hunting scientist and his sister, her assumptions about what is right are shaken. She is suddenly confronted by questions she has never considered about the importance of friendship and faith—and her comfortable understanding about how the world works is thrown off balance.

Gideon Kirby loves science, and hunting down proof of past lives is a joy he won’t willingly give up. But his scientific leanings are being challenged by both his personal beliefs and by local smugglers in the Devonshire countryside. And every day his sister’s illness is becoming more desperate and her care grows more demanding. Adding a proper Viscount’s daughter to the mix is a complication Gideon never expected—especially since he has a secret that demands he stays far away from this young woman he’s falling for in order to protect his beloved sister.

When a mysterious stranger visits the village, that secret is set to be exposed, no matter how Gideon fights. Then tragedy strikes in a smugglers cave. And the threat of scandal may lead to broken hearts and passionless propriety. Will the shaky bond these two have managed to build be strong enough to overcome their differences—or will the trust they’ve withheld from each other end up tearing three lives apart?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Caroline Hatherleigh knows her way around in the realm of society, after all she a viscounts daughter, and her actions shows that of someone who has been raised around a wealthy atmosphere. She thinks of no one but herself, she’s rude, doesn’t care how she acts. She reminds me of a big annoying brat! Thinking she needs a husband and not liking the guy she’s been hanging around, her mother sends her to south Devonshire, which is the best move her mom could have made!

Gideon Kirby is a scientist who loves hunting down fossils and trying to figure out the past. But Gideon’s main thing is taking care of his loving sister who has a chronic illness.

This is such an amazing story! I love the characters, and how each one develops so well as they play out the parts in the story. I love how Gideon takes such special care of his sister, doing whatever he need to do to take care of her. And then when Ms. Hatherleigh comes into the picture, she has such a sweet friendship with Emma. And her reaction to Gideon was awesome! Carolyn Hatherleigh changes from the brat she was to someone very different. I love the way Ms. Miller so expertly makes the changes in Carolyn’s life, and even showing times of her going back to her old self, but she turns out to be a likable person as she continues to change. I feel this is a very well researched and well written story, and I love how this author weaves the Christian life into the lives of her characters. When I finished reading this book, I had a warm feeling for these characters because of the Christian living so evenly written within the pages.  I love, love Carolyn Miller’s books and this one did not disappoint! I highly recommend this sweet Regency read to those loving this genre!

The Sewing Sisters by Ruth Logan Herne

The Sewing Sisters – Three Novella’s

AEAB4543-24EC-43B5-A50F-56B485FB42D9

ABOUT THE BOOKS

Hattie McGillicuddy might not look like your typical matchmaker, but Hattie makes things happen in the little town of Second Chance, South Dakota. With the arrival of the railroad and official statehood, Hattie’s determined to bring brides west, and not just any brides. Brides who need the wide open prairie as much as the prairie- and the prairie men- need them! Three pioneer stories of unlikely love are woven around a little town full of homespun characters that take us back to another place and another time but with the same faith, hope and love we cherish today.

Macy can’t sew a lick, and she’s come to town with a sacrifice and a secret, but when Hattie’s first apprentice is attracted to the pastor of the only church in town – the man raising her illegitimate son – will the truth set her free? Or make her leave the town and her son behind?

Unjustly accused, Nellie comes west to escape the law. She has a way with tucks and gathers, and every Western town could use more tucks and gathers. She’s determined to improve the drab look of the prairie and manages to brighten hearts as well. But will her quick speech and firm ideas of women’s suffrage draw Levi Eichas closer or send the somber carriage maker running?

Grief has robbed Ann Hazel, but when her aunt pushes her to go west and help an ailing Hattie McGillicuddy turn hems, Ann’s shamed into it. She’s managed to avoid life for awhile, but when Sol Eichas’s nanny comes down sick, Ann reluctantly agrees to help. As she winds her way around Sol’s heart and home, can the two troubled souls leave the past behind to embrace a future together?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I really love these stories of second chance that so rightfully is about people who live in Second Chance, South Dakota. In each of these three Novellas, the young lady who is the main character comes from such a horrible life that she believes there is no hope for her, and especially no hope for a second chance at love. But what each does not realize is that they have Harriet in their side, of course she can’t help but be in the middle of everyone’s business, but it works for their own good. And Harriet is more than happy that she can use each lady in her store, because she keeps so busy sewing clothes for everyone! And, of course, Harriet already has a young man pick out for each of these ladies!

This is such a fun book to read! Each story is so wonderfully created, with characters that warm your heart in a way that you won’t easily forget them! The little town of Second Chance is sweet and homey, even though everyone does know everyone else’s business. That’s the way it’s suppose to be in small towns right? I felt as though I was right there living the stories! And Ms. Herne creates and describes each scene in such a wonderful way, and in such detail. I love the way she writes each story. And even with Harriet, being the person who makes sure she knows everyone’s business, Ms Herne makes her a character everyone loves! I love the warm homey feeling of these stories! This is a book I will definitely keep, and one I highly recommend! Run out and pick up your copy, or search your favorite online store and read this one for a lot of fun and entertainment!

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Sober businessman Seb Ward may have come from a wealthy lumber-baron family in Minnesota, but he knows that appearances can be deceiving, and that his illustrious family is pretty dysfunctional. Being in another state has provided the buffer he sought from his father’s misdeeds, but when a little boy shows up on a train… a little boy who looks enough like Seb to be his own child… Seb’s faced with a dilemma. Raise the boy as his own, or let his mother suffer the embarrassment of “a brother by another mother.” And when the boy takes a shine to the Rachel Eichas, the newly contracted school teacher, Seb can’t help but do the same. But Rachel was raised by an unloving, business-first father and there’s no way she’s looking for those same qualities in a husband. Can she see through Seb’s focus and drive to find the loving man within?

Seb Ward kept to himself in their little town, that is until his little brother shows up on the train one day, unannounced! How could his dad do this to him? Well, that’s just how his dad it! Read the book to find out more about this sorry excuse for a dad!

Even though not many people knew Seb, when he started showing himself more, he was a likeable fellow. And I love the way he took his little brother,Eli in, loving him and making a special loving home for him.

I love this sweet story that sometimes wasn’t so sweet when Seb’s dad was involved. And I love how Seb, despite his upbringing was determined to make it on his own, being a loyal  citizen of his town and maintain a good reputation. And Eli was just the sweetest five year old, and he misses his own mom so much he immediately takes a liking to husband school teacher Rachel, wanting to spend as much time with her as possible. But of course as in every town, there has to be the gossips that think they know everything and are more than willing to voice their opinions. But that’s what makes a story so good! And that’s why you need to read this story! “The Most Inconvenient Love” by Ruth Logan Herne is a story you don’t want to miss, especially if you love reading a sweet clean romance! I highly recommend this one!

Los Angeles can be a tough place for a single girl, especially for those who come on their own from other cities or small towns, with no family or friends living in the state of California, let alone Los Angeles. Many young girls have stars in their eyes when they land in LA, hoping to make it big in acting, modeling, or music. Unfortunately, a large number of them fade into oblivion without anyone ever even knowing who they are because they lack guidance, assistance, funding, and most importantly, knowledge. Well, if you’re a single girl and you have your sights set on living in the ‘City of the Angels,’ there are a few things you will need to know before you make the move. Whether you come to LA to become a star, or if you simply want to enjoy living in a place with great weather year-round, a beautiful coastline, and some of the best-looking, fittest people in the world, this guide book will help you navigate your way through La-La Land. It will help you avoid some of the pitfalls that many people before you have fallen prey to, and if you play your cards right, before you know it, you will be living a lifestyle which will make your family and friends green with envy.

The Who: In LA, almost everyone has a roommate. With the high cost of living in the city, it makes perfect sense to split the cost with someone else so you can afford to do something other than simply pay rent every month. A good roommate can be an asset, but it’s not always easy to find one. Living with a woman can be challenging, as women can be catty and jealous, and you don’t need that kind of drama in your life. Having a man live with you can be very beneficial. Men are a lot easier to get along with. They’re not hormonal like females, so not too many things bother them, and they generally have good attitudes. They’re also more prone to go out and about, so they will more than likely be gone frequently. If you find one who has a work schedule that is the opposite of yours, or who works all the time, you’ve got it made. Besides, there’s nothing like having a man around to fix things for you and to do some of the things you don’t want to do, such as taking out the trash. With housing being so expensive, having a roommate will give you disposable income, which will allow you to build a little nest egg for a rainy day.

Prism Tours Grand Finale Through The White Wood by Jessica Leake

On Tour with Prism Book Tours
Book Tour Grand Finale for
Through the White Wood
By Jessica Leake
We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops
you’ll find snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:
Launch – Note from the Author

Hi everyone! I am so excited to share my latest book, Through the White Wood, with you. I have always loved Russian folktales—there’s just something about such fantastical (and often creepy) characters set against a winter backdrop of snow and towering trees that I’ve always found so compelling. . .

Caffeine Addled Ramblings – Review & Interview

TTWW is the kind of book that keeps you wanting more in the best ways possible.”

G: Speaking of the psychology of characters, we discover early on that Katya isn’t the only one in the book with powers, so how do you choose which powers belong to whom? And does that have anything to do with their personalities at all?

J: It does have a lot to do with their personalities. The reason I chose earth for Grigory is a bit of a spoiler, so I won’t mention it here, but Ivan has the power to negate others’ abilities because he’s sort of the “protector” of the group. For Boris, I thought it would be funny for this guy who loves cooking so much to be a fearsome fighter with superhuman strength. And Kharan was just made for the assassin/spy role.

Hallie Reads – Review

“A story of friendship, magic, romance, and danger, Through the White Wood is fast-paced, engaging, and fun. I love how Leake pulled me into the story and made me care about these characters and what would happen. It’s definitely an enjoyable read, and I highly recommend it to fantasy lovers.”

Wishful Endings – Review

“I thoroughly enjoyed this story from beginning to end! With the rich setting, magical aspects, character development, a motley crew, and romance, there’s not much more readers can ask for. I’m looking forward to more from this author!”

“Katya and Sasha are each so fun to read about, and I loved seeing them face the challenges and dangers in this story. Giving some strong ‘Ice Queen/Frozen’ vibes, but I loved the classic inspirations used in this story, and really enjoyed the direction Jessica takes [in] this one!”

Dazzled by Books – Review

“Jessica Leake did it again! Through the White Wood is absolutely amazing. This woman knows how to write. If you have not picked up her books, you totally should. She brings such a rich tale to her readers. I just can’t get enough.”

Bibliobibuli YA – Excerpt

There are countless monsters in this world. Some with fangs, some who skitter in the darkness just out of sight, some who wear human skin but whose hearts have turned dark as forest shadows.

And as my fellow villagers dragged me, bound by rough rope, from the cellar of the elder, I knew that these men and women I’d grown up with—they thought of me as a monster, too.

I wasn’t sure they were wrong.

Through the White Wood was a beautifully written story with rich descriptions, a strong heroine and a storyline that is bound to sweep you away. . . . This story was thought-provoking and enchanting, keeping me entertained until the very last page. Ms. Leake is a very talented writer and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.”

“In this impactful return to Jessica Leake’s imagination, prepare yourself for a journey. . . . Through the White Wood upheld the integrity of Russian and Slavic folklore through Leake’s narrative interpretation that transports readers to a time where legends flourished among men and magic was a means of unlocking the greatest triumphs of the human spirit. . . . this outstanding read must have a reserved spot on your reading corner.”

“I enjoyed Through the White Wood! I liked seeing Katya’s constant struggle of whether or not she’s a monster and her journey to discover who she is. . . . Jessica Leake’s latest novel is a solid story for those who enjoy a slower-paced book with historical and folklore elements woven together.”

Book Slaying – Review

“. . . I enjoyed Through the White Wood. . . . now that I know that Jessica Leake excels at world-building and folklore-researching. . .”

Bookish Looks – Review

“It is a read full of magic, romance, and friendships. I adored the folklore and just wanted more. I look forward to seeing what else Leake has in store.”

Then, without another word, he climbed into the driver’s seat, gathered the reins, and pulled us away from the only home I’d ever known, of a prince they said was a monster.

But then, they said I was one, too.

I promised myself I wouldn’t look back, but I did it anyway, squinting through the snow at the thirty-seven villagers who silently watched me leave. It was easy to note the ones who were missing. While the ones who remained stared at me accusingly, I reached down to rub at my wrists where the ropes had once bound them.

onemused – Review

“. . . this was an engaging and fascinating read that consumed my YA fantasy-loving heart. This book is great for lovers of magic, YA fantasy and adventure, and fairytale retellings. I would definitely love to meet these characters again in future books.”

NovelKnight – Review

“. . . the blend of folklore with fiction, all while giving the feel of a magical history that our records forgot. On that front, I think this book excelled. This was a world I wanted to explore further, beyond Katya’s story. . .”

Read and Wander – Review

“I was absolutely captivated. Jessica Leake is such a wonderful storyteller and once again, she brings to life a magical world inspired by Russian mythology. . . . Through the White Wood was a breathtaking, mesmerizing and sometimes gut wrenching adventure. There were so many great characters, some twists and we even got to see our favorites, Ciara and Leif, from Beyond a Darkened Shore. I really hope that we get more stories in this world. I definitely recommend reading anything Jessica Leake writes at this point.”

After the horror of what had happened in the village, it was almost difficult to be afraid of what awaited me with the prince. Almost, but not quite. Rumors hammered at my thoughts as the sleigh traveled farther and farther into the deep woods that surrounded my home.

People disappearing into his castle, never to return. People with abilities beyond human limits. People like me.

Worse still was the knowledge that I went to him having committed crimes whose punishment was death.

Through the White Wood is a thrilling young adult historical fantasy that will have readers begging for more. Although it’s technically the second in the series, you can read this without reading the first book without any problems or confusion. I wasn’t really sure what to expect going in, but at the end it exceeded anything I could’ve hoped for.”

BookCrushin – Excerpt

We traveled ever farther into the woods, the trees towering above us, snow clinging to their piney branches. I watched animals flee from the oncoming sleigh—birds flitting from tree to tree, squirrels chattering reproachfully, even a fox and hare interrupted from a deadly chase.

I imagined myself jumping down into the snow and escaping into those woods, and I went so far as to shift closer to the edge of my seat. I glanced down at the ground, moving so quickly beneath us. I could jump now, but would I manage to stay on my feet? If I stumbled, I risked serious injury. Still, wouldn’t it be worth it to try rather than be brought before the prince like a lamb to slaughter?

I moved still closer to the edge, gathering my skirt in one hand. I glanced at Ivan, but he continued to face forward.

Through the White Wood by Jessica Leake is the brilliantly told story of Katya and Sasha, an orphaned village girl and a prince. . . . after reading this book I can say I am absolutely adding her to my auto-buy author’s list. The author writes very vivid and beautiful stories with such amazing characters and worlds that it’s impossible to not fall in love.”

This city man and country woman must bring a powerful, ruthless man to justice, all while fighting a very inconvenient attraction to each other. John wasn’t expecting anything from this wild land but the retrieve a lost grandson, which happens to be someone Penny will protect with everything she can.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Put a city slicker and a wild mountain woman together and you have Penny and John. And when they are kidnapped together, they find a way to escape, so now they are in the middle of the High Sierras running for thei life.

This is such an amazing read. Penny and John were  completely different people but they fit together so well. And the other characters were so well developed and they were such nice people, and so well written I feel like I have a new family as friends! I enjoyed the history throughout the book, it gives readers the feeling of being there and living the story with the characters. And I can’t leave out the beautiful cover of this book! It’s beautiful and fits the story well. One other thing is the way Mary Connealy weaves the Christian live into her characters. And she does it in such a subtle way, it just feels right, and it doesn’t stand out in the story.  I just love everything about this book! And you need to read it to find out everything going on! The Unexpected Champion is Book three in the series. I didn’t read books one and two but you need to read them together. I read this for a review, so I plan to read them all in order next week! It will be a treat! I highly recommend this book to anyone, but if you are a historical fiction buff, then you will love this one!

The Memory House by Rachel Hauck

1A08162C-AF8C-4C5C-871C-5E895F4DA22C

ABOUT THIS BOOK

When Beck Holiday lost her father in the North Tower on 9/11, she also lost her memories of him. Eighteen years later, she’s a tough New York City cop burdened with a damaging secret, suspended for misconduct, and struggling to get her life in order. Meanwhile a mysterious letter arrives informing her she’s inherited a house along Florida’s northern coast, and what she discovers there will change her life forever. Matters of the heart only become more complicated when she runs into handsome Bruno Endicott, a driven sports agent who fondly recalls the connection they shared as teenagers. But Beck doesn’t remember that, either.

Decades earlier, widow Everleigh Applegate lives a steady, uneventful life with her widowed mother after a tornado ripped through Waco, Texas, and destroyed her new, young married life. When she runs into old high school friend Don Callahan, she begins to yearn for change. Yet no matter how much she longs to love again, she is hindered by a secret she can never share.

Fifty years separate the women but through the power of love and miracle of faith, they each find healing in a beautiful Victorian known affectionately as The Memory House.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Everleigh Applegate and Beck Holiday, separated by fifty years, but joined together by devastating loss, secrets, and men who want to give them happiness again. Rachel Hauck has written another amazing story that will fill our minds and take us on a journey that will stay with us long after we close the pages of this book!

Another story that I love, love, love! The characters are so realistic I can feel the pain they have suffered while reading the words describing their feelings. Everleigh’s story is written around the era I was born and my early years, which I always love to read about. And Rachel Hauck is the very best when it comes to writing time slip stories. I love the way she goes from one era to the other so fluently and make the plot play out so smoothly. There are a number of issues dealt with in this book, starting with Beck being suspended from her job as a cop because of misconduct. Though I can understand her going off, it was just the wrong place and at the wrong time. My heart went out to Beck and Everleigh because of the lifechanging losses they had to deal with. And Ms. Hauck dealt with these losses and changes with class! And I can’t leave out the men that came into both of these ladies lives. Both Don and Bruno were humble characters, dealing with somewhat the same issues in their lives. And their decisions were made easier by their friendship with these ladies. And if you want to know all of the details and what happens with Everleigh and Beck, I highly recommend you pick up a copy of The Memory House.

The things that tear us apart can also bring us together

With America’s entrance into World War II, the town of Blackberry Springs, Alabama, has exploded virtually overnight. Workers from all over are coming south for jobs in Uncle Sam’s munitions plants–and they’re bringing their pasts with them, right into Dolly Chandler’s grand but fading family home turned boardinghouse.

A struggling young couple from the Midwest, unemployed professors from Chicago, a widower from Mississippi, and a shattered young veteran struggling to heal from the war are all hoping Dolly’s house will help them find their way back to the lives they left behind. But the house has a past of its own.

When tragedy strikes, Dolly’s only hope will be the circle of friends under her roof and their ability to discover the truth about what happened to a young bride who lived there a century before.

“This is the kind of book you can’t wait to get home and read every night–to meet up with characters you genuinely like in a feels-so-real place you want to be.”–Sara Peterson, editor in chief, HGTV Magazine

“A story of kindness, friendship, and healing, Almost Home shines.”–Nancy Dorman-Hickson, coauthor of the award-winning Diplomacy and Diamonds

“Witty, wise, and moving. . . . Almost Home abundantly reveals how friendship and faith endure in spite of–and sometimes because of–trying times.”–Jim Baker, journalist and author of The Empty Glass.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The setting is BlackBerry, Springs Alabama in World War II and in a little boarding house called Dolly’s. Families from all over were coming to this little town to find jobs during the war because they just can’t make ends meet at their previous jobs. With a variety of people from different places and walk of life, Dolly’s became interesting at times. All hoping to find healing from the loss that they have suffered. What will happen to this group of people, all who have become best friends, for some, more than friendship.

Almost Home is one of those reads that just make you feel good after reading it. I enjoyed each person involved in Dolly’s boarding house. Each couple and person brought their own unique experiences and personality to the place. The characters are so realistic, and I connected with them well as they developed throughout the story. The main thing I felt after reading this story is that people from all walks of life can become friends, and even help each other heal from the issues life throws at them. I enjoyed the way Ms. Luesse weaves each of these mixed up lives together,  bringing a happy ending. This is a book everyone wanting a clean interesting read will enjoy.

ConvergenceA psychologist paralyzed by fear.

A stalker bent on destruction.

Psychology professor Dr. Denilyn Rossi contends that the past is either a shadow that haunts us or a force that propels us. The choice is ours, she tells her students. What she doesn’t tell them is that her own past is a shadow she can’t seem to shake. Fear has immobilized her and is taking a costly toll.

Adelia Sanchez, however, has embraced Dr. Rossi’s teaching. She is ready to confront fear and render it powerless—using the trauma of her past to propel her to entrap the man who stalked and brutally attacked her.

As Denilyn’s past and Adelia’s present converge at the Kaweah River, a dangerous man bent on destruction threatens them both. Will he uncover the secret Deni and Adelia have fought so hard to protect?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Denilyn Rossi is a professsor teaching Psychology but that doesn’t help her deal with her past of a stalker and an attack. Everywhere she goes her is horrified because she thinks someone is still stalking her, or maybe it’s just her. She keeps seeing her shrink to try to work through things, but this doesn’t seem to help.

It took me a really long time to get into this story, actually it was near the end of the book before I understood what it was all about. The plot was all over the place, Switching back and forth from the past to the present. And there were two similar characters, Denilyn and Adelia, which was very confusing, especially on into the book, which I won’t mention because it will ruin it, but I didn’t see the point. I never understood Adelia’s Character until the end. The suspense was there but it took a long time coming, and where I thought it was be a big deal, it wasn’t, the book just ended. And nothing was said so it was easy to understand, in fact the entire book was out there until the ending, when everything came together, and then it wasn’t that clear. I guess for me, I’m use to a different type of writing maybe? That’s all I will say about this book. I’ve read other books by this author that were very good. So I encourage you to check this book out and see what you think!

Read an Exclusive Excerpt from Convergence:

She straightens, squares her shoulders, and takes a deep breath as she climbs aboard the plane. There are no seats, the other divers are piled close to one another on the floor. Mike points to an open space near him. She lowers herself, sits, pulls her knees to her chest, and then looks out the oval window next to her.

That’s when she sees him.

Her breath catches. She leans in, cups her hands on the glass to cut the glare, and peers out.

It can’t be. . . . Mouth dry, she tries to swallow. She looks away.

Her heart batters her chest and her pulse roars in her ears, nearly drowning out the clamor of the plane’s propeller. It isn’t him. You’re imagining things, she tells herself. She inhales then exhales. She takes another look then stares at the man near the hangar. He pulls something from his shirt pocket, sticks it in his mouth. A cigarette? She watches as he lights it. It isn’t him. He doesn’t smoke. Anyway, it’s impossible. She knows where he is, and it isn’t here.

He’s seen her staring at him through the window of the plane. He takes a drag, flicks ash to the ground, and smiles. But his eyes behind the sunglasses are cold. Hard.

She steadies herself as the plane shoots down the runway then lifts. As memories flash, perspiration trickles down her back. She inhales again, deeper this time. It wasn’t him. Let it go, she admonishes, then shakes her head.

Fear will not win. Not this time. Not ever again.

Within what feels to her like mere moments, the group of professional skydivers have all jumped, and she stands, back pressed against Mike, hooked to his harness. They brace themselves against the pummeling force of wind as they wait near the gaping opening in the side of the plane. She pulls goggles from the top of her head down over her eyes.

There’s no room in her mind now for thoughts of the man on the ground, or of the man who haunts her memories. There’s no room for thoughts of any kind. Terror, as she well knows, is all-consuming. Her breaths are shallow, her pulse races.

“Step to the edge,” Mike yells. When she doesn’t move, he yells again, this time his breath hot against her ear. She hesitates then steps forward, him stepping in sync with her. There’s nothing to see but the vast expanse.

“Go!” Mike shouts.

Heart hammering her rib cage, she leans forward, eyes squeezed shut, and falls more than jumps into nothingness, arms stretched wide. She anticipates the sensation of falling—stomach lifting to throat—but it isn’t evident as she’d expected. Nor is the velocity at which she knows they’re falling. She dares to open her eyes, only aware of the force of air pushing her cheeks back to her ears, which makes her laugh.

The free fall is like nothing she’s experienced. She laughs again, the sound carried heavenward on the drafts, she imagines. Too soon she’s jerked, hard, the harness cutting into her thighs, and pulled upward with what seems like exceeding force. She hadn’t expected the force.

But then they’re floating. Soaring. “Oh,” she whispers. She wants to take it all in, remember every exhilarating moment. These currents she could ride forever. Tension is replaced by peace, pervasive peace.

Quietude. Silence. Wonder.

“That was a hard pull.” Mike’s shouted words behind her threaten to break the spell, but she’s enchanted and pays little attention. She assumes the pull—the parachute opening and catching air—was harder than usual but fine. They’re fine. She doesn’t understand. Doesn’t know what’s to come. How could she?

As they float, her eyes are trained on the ground below. The earth is a patchwork of tones. She sees the river, a thread, stitched across the quilt of colors. She searches for familiar landmarks as her sense of confidence soars. She’s done it. Faced fear, terror even, and—

Suddenly they’re plummeting.

Tumbling.

Head first. Arms and legs akimbo.

Land and sky spin as they interchange. Her lungs deflate. Pressure. The currents, tumultuous, pull her under and then spit her out. She can’t breathe. Why can’t she breathe? She gasps. She’s drowning. Help! Someone, help! But no. . . There’s no water. Instead, she’s above, where there’s nothing. Just. . .

Nothing.

Nothing to reach for. Nothing to grab. Nothing to save her.

A scream sounds in her mind. Rings in her ears. Scathes her throat.

Her scream?

Awareness hits. She’s going to die. It’s her only thought. There are no thoughts of those she loves. Those who love her. Memories don’t flash. No, just the one thought. The only thought she has time for.

She is going to die.

Then. . .

Everything goes black.

This Daring Journey by Misty Beller

BBD7BE67-B929-4095-8DC6-36994FFA2982

About the Book

This Daring Journey

Book: This Daring Journey

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release Date: March 26, 2019

As a half-Indian raised among her Peigan tribe, Moriah Clark knows better than to trust white people. The tragedy that resulted in her birth is proof enough. But when her trusted grandfather marries her to a white man, she has no choice to but to obey and hope this new life isn’t her downfall. Her white husband turns out to be a decent sort, but his unexpected death left her to birth a newborn baby among hostile mountain men. She wants nothing more than to retreat to the safe haven of her tribal upbringing. When a mysterious frontiersman arrives on her doorstep seeking her deceased husband, his offer to escort her and the babe to her people seems like the opportunity she’s been praying to find. But can she trust him?

Samuel Grant has been sent to retrieve Henry Clark for his sister’s wedding, but the sight that greets him at the little cabin in the woods is not what he expected. Not only has the man died, but Henry’s wife is fighting off an aggressive gang of men at gunpoint—while trying to conceal a newborn. He can’t leave the pair unattended, so helping her travel into the mountain country to reach her family seems like the only option. If he can win her trust, that is.

Such a grueling journey with a three-week-old baby will be risky, but the challenges that arise test them far more than either expected. When a devastating surprise increases the danger ten-fold, Moriah focuses all her efforts on keeping her newborn daughter alive. Maybe that’s why she doesn’t realize how much of her heart belongs to the mountain man—until it’s too late.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Misty Beller was a new author for me whenI reviewed the first book in this series and I fell in love with her writing! And this 6th book in the Heart of the Mountain Series in my favorite on yet! Moriah Grant has been living in her cabin with her newborn baby for months after her husband passed away, but how much more can she take of these horrible mountain men trying to take her home. When Samuel Grant arrives with a message for her husband from his sister, Moriah decides she can trust him to help her and her newborn baby.

I love, love this story set in the Canadian Winter Wilderness. Misty Beller creates another cast of characters that quickly find their way into my heart very early in the story. Moriah is a determined woman ready to take on whatever she needs to do to survive. Samuel Grant wants nothing more than to help Moriah and her baby journey their way through the harsh wilderness to find her family. Even though the trip through the cold snowy wearther was harsh, I thoroughly enjoyed the journey with Samuel, Moriah and Cherry! I love the tender way Samuel was with Cherry, he had her spoiled after a few days. I also love the interaction between Samuel and Moriah. Even though they’ve couldn’t see it, or wouldn’t admit it, I could see early on that they were formig an attraction to each other.

There is so much going on in this book, but the plot always flows nicely and Ms. Beller kept on the edge of my seat most of the time and I could put the book down. In fact it took me less than a day to read “This Daring Journey!” Another thing I like an appreciate is how the author weaves the Christian life into her characters. By the end of the story, I feel like Moriah and Samuel are my friends, and it feels like I’m living the story with them! I highly recommend this book!

About the Author

MistyMisty M. Beller writes romantic mountain stories, set on the 1800s frontier and woven with the truth of God’s love.

She was raised on a farm in South Carolina, so her Southern roots run deep. Growing up, her family was close, and they continue to keep that priority today. Her husband and children now add another dimension to her life, keeping her both grounded and crazy.

God has placed a desire in Misty’s heart to combine her love for Christian fiction and the simpler ranch life, writing historical novels that display God’s abundant love through the twists and turns in the lives of her characters.

More from Misty

How did I get started writing?

I’ve always loved to read, but several years ago I was putting together my bucket list, and realized that I really did want to write a novel. So, “Write a novel that’s published” made it near the top!

I decided, it’s now or never, and made the commitment to do it. So, I had a general idea that I wanted it to be a Christian historical western romance. But where to start? I finally decided I needed to find a good book to help me plan. I stumbled upon (a.k.a. God led me to) the best possible book to help me get started with a great plan: Plot and Structure by James Scott Bell. For all you writers out there, I can’t recommend it highly enough!

From there, I’ve soaked in every bit of writing instruction I can from some amazing groups and individuals. And I’ve spent countless hours sitting with my laptop pouring out words onto the screen. Writing is in my blood. It’s my passion. A true gift from my Heavenly Father, and I pray daily that he uses the words for His purpose.

Grand Finale for A Rancher to Remember by Karen Rock

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

Book Tour Grand Finale for
A Rancher to Remember
By Karen Rock

We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops
you’ll find snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:

Launch – Note from the Author

Welcome back to the Cade-Loveland extended family! Their 100+ year-old feud is finally over, the water rights dispute settled, and now they can live peacefully, right? Oh… if only it were that simple… Lots of drama still ahead for these strong, faithful and hardworking ranchers in the sixth book of my Rocky Mountain Cowboys series, a raw, complicated second chance love story with a dramatic plot twist you won’t forget!

Baroness’ Book Trove – Review

A Rancher to Remember by Karen Rock is a great book to get sucked into. Cassidy and Daryl have a great love story, one that can bring a person to tears. I am giving this book a five-star rating and recommending it to everyone that reads clean romances. I adored this story.”

Faithfully Bookish – Review

A Rancher to Remember boasts bursts of white-knuckle action, two hurting kids, and a potential second-chance romance soaked in grief and regrets. . . . If you enjoy steamy kisses, good folks, and healthy doses of conflict (and reconciliation) in your stories, A Rancher to Remember fits the bill! There’s never a dull moment with the Cade and Loveland crew and this is yet another entertaining addition to this series.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

Why had she come back to Carbondale?

It was a mystery Cassidy desperately wished to solve, not just for herself but for a grieving Daryl. She wanted to help her sister’s family pick up the pieces—an altruistic wish, nothing more. So why did her eyes follow handsome Daryl, then? “I know what a big heart your mama had.” Cassidy rubbed Emma’s arm. “How could she help but love you?”

Cassidy had come to love them as her own these past few weeks.

Britt Reads Fiction – Review

“Oh, I just love this series! . . . Daryl and Cassidy seemed so perfect for each other in some ways, yet polar opposites in others. I truly wasn’t sure how the author was going to pull this happily-ever-after off, but she did! I enjoyed reading this story from the first page to the last!”

Pause for Tales – Review

A Rancher to Remember was a heartbreaking read of love lost and found and of letting go even when it is too soon. . . . This story brings out a lot of emotions and it really digs deep to bring out the hopefulness and longing of what good could come out of this tragic outcome for this family. You might just want to have a few tissues ready.”

Christy’s Cozy Corners – Review

“I love how there are moments when each of the main characters react with extreme anger because that is how grief works. It doesn’t matter who you’re mad at; you’re just mad because the loss you experienced isn’t fair. Grief is hard work, and I think the author does a great job of showing us just how real these characters’ emotions are. The way that the story plays out is very believable as is the romance between the main characters. I really think you will love this book as well as the others in the Rocky Mountain Cowboys series.”

It’s All About the Romance – Excerpt

Daryl grinned and extended a hand to Cassidy. “Shall we?”

“I guess we must,” she said breathlessly as he swept her into his arms and slowly danced her around the crowded floor.

She smelled so good. He closed his eyes and breathed in the sweet scent rising from her neck. The way her small hand wrapped around his, the other resting on his shoulder, stirred his blood. His heart lifted. His spirit soared.

Euphoria.

The Power of Words – Review

“With her Rocky Mountain Cowboys series, Karen Rock has become one of my favorite authors in the Harlequin Heartwarming line of clean romances. . . . The characters and back stories of these two families are intricately woven and their “happily ever afters” are not easily won. Aside from the obvious cowboy attraction, what I like most is their humanness – weakness, pride, and misunderstandings, tempered with caring, sacrifice, kindness and love. . . . I recommend A Rancher to Remember, as well as the whole series, to all who enjoy a clean romance with character depth.”

Slice of Life – Review

“The reader is immediately swept up into Karen Rock’s romance, A Rancher to Remember, as Cassidy Fulton risks her life to expose corruption in the Philippines, and the intrigue continues as she struggles to attain the missing sections of her memory after returning to her hometown of Carbondale, Colorado.”

Jorie Loves A Story – Review

“Whenever I am re-visiting either the Cade’s or the Loveland’s, it doesn’t take long to notice how well-versed Ms Rock has become in writing these stories! Each new installment is an extension of the whole series. . . . This time round, I thought it was fitting we were swinging by the Loveland ranch. . . you might need to brace yourself to transition through a new set of adversities or incidents that might push your beloved characters to the edge of what they can personally handle. All with the joy of knowing that in the end, Rock will give her characters a fitting sense of resolution and will give us, the reader, a wicked good read!”

A Baker’s Perspective – Review

A Rancher to Remember has everything you want and expect from a second chance romance. There’s grief, pain, restoration, romance (of course), kissing (swoon), and so much more. Both Cassidy and Daryl certainly have their flaws, but to be honest that just makes the story even better.”

Thoughts of a Blonde – Review

“An emotional journey of forgiveness and redemption! With her signature way of wrapping a group of characters around our heart, Karen Rock brings us the next book in her Rocky Mountain Cowboys series. . . . Loved the raw emotions brought to the surface with this cast of characters!”

Getting Your Read On – Review

“I lovey lovey love this series! . . . It was a roller coaster of emotions and wow, did things end in a dramatic way! This book and it’s characters were completely different than any of the other books. It felt fresh and exciting. I loved it!”

Janice’s Book Reviews – Review

“I really enjoyed the book. . . . I have enjoyed all the books in the series. I look forward to reading the next book. . .”

Brooke Blogs – Excerpt

A couple of hours later, after finishing their witness statements, Daryl and Cassidy strode from the sheriff’s office.

“Thank you, Daryl,” she said once they hopped in his truck. “You saved my life.”

He cupped the side of her face, leaned close and brushed her lips with a heart-stopping kiss so brief she could have imagined it. Dreamed it. Maybe she had. If so, she didn’t want to wake from this adrenaline-fueled moment. Or lose it.

EmpowerMoms – Review

“This story had great characters (Cades and Loveland families), clean romance, funny, and some sad tragic life events that the characters had to work thru with faith and diligence.

I highly recommend this book and hope to read more from this series and author.”

onemused – Review

“This book was truly heartwarming as we follow the two main characters as they work through their own issues individually and together. Noah and Emma (Daryl and Leanne’s kids) were just precious and the icing on the cake- there were so many adorable and lovely scenes with the two of them. I love the personal and romantic journeys in this book and highly recommend as a story of beautiful second-chance romance.”

Remembrancy – Review

“Y’all, Rock blew me away with this book. . . . A Rancher to Remember surprised me in the best kind of way with Rock’s ability to deliver solid stories with tough issues, family ties that are almost unbreakable, and lots of heated kisses for the romantic in her readers.”

Hallie Reads – Review

A Rancher to Remember is a story full of heart. Family, betrayal, second chances… It’s got a few surprises and plenty of great moments, and I enjoyed it all. “

Locks, Hooks and Books – Review

“. . . this one does not disappoint. I loved Daryl and Cassidy’s story. I thought they were so sweet and fun together. I found their chemistry was undeniable. I had no problem to stay focused on the book and keep reading. I had it read from cover to cover in one day. . . . Great book!”

Welcome to the Blog Tour for The Baggage Handler by David Rawlings with JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

9780785224938Title: The Baggage Handler
Author: David Rawlings
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Genre: Magical Realism / Christian Allegory Fiction
Release Date: March 5, 2019

In a similar vein to The Traveler’s Gift by Andy Andrews or Dinner with a Perfect Stranger by David Gregory, The Baggage Handler is a contemporary story that explores one question: What baggage are you carrying?

When three people take the wrong suitcase from baggage claim, their lives change forever.

A hothead businessman coming to the city for a showdown meeting to save his job.

A mother of three hoping to survive the days at her sister’s house before her niece’s wedding.

And a young artist pursuing his father’s dream so he can keep his own alive.

When David, Gillian, and Michael each take the wrong suitcase from baggage claim, the airline directs them to retrieve their bags at a mysterious facility in a deserted part of the city. There they meet the enigmatic Baggage Handler, who shows them there is more in their baggage than what they have packed, and carrying it with them is slowing them down in ways they can’t imagine. And they must deal with it before they can leave.

In this modern-day parable about the burdens that weigh us down, David Rawlings issues an inspiring invitation to lighten the load.

Guest Post from David

I want to thank A David Rawlings for answering a few questions to let us know a little bit about him and his writings. It’s always interesting to know what goes on in the daily life of a writer!  I hope you enjoy knowing more about Mr. Rawlings and that you will check out his exciting new book, The Baggage Handler.

1. A day in the life of David Rawlings

6:30 a.m. I woke up to a thought that was both amazing and daunting. Writing Day is here. Today I won’t need to dovetail my writing with the work that (currently) pays the bills.

6:31a.m. checked my phone. I know this is not advised – a thousand sleep specialists, doctors and even relationship counselors are clear on that. But my marketplace, publisher and agent are in the USA, as are most of my publicity opportunities. I’m in Australia. Our primary method of communication seems to be overnight email; it’s as if email has suddenly gone old-school and requires a postage stamp and a little extra time to cover the distance. Anything super-urgent is dealt with straight away, other messages are flagged for later.

7:30 a.m. get into it. My kids are now senior school age, so they get themselves ready and my wife works at their College, so they hitch a ride with her. The house is quiet.

First up, I take advantage of the primary window for social media posting for a US market which is quite early for me. I respond to what I need to do, write and post what I need to and schedule the rest. Then shut off social media, the greatest time sponge in the history of mankind.

The morning is the time when my emotional energy is at its highest, and so is my creativity. So I change from my marketing hat to my creative hat. This helps me bang out 3,000-4,000 words in the next three hours on Book 3. I’m a pantser trapped in a plotter’s body, so I’ve already storyboarded how the story is going to go. Some days when it’s flowing it feels more like painting in the numbers. Today is one of those days. I change some of the numbers as the characters make it pretty clear to me that my idea for this chapter isn’t where they want to go, doesn’t challenge them enough or even keep my own attention.

10:30a.m-11:00a.m. Stop writing. There’s a part of me that wishing I wouldn’t, but that’s about as far as I can push it at that rate. There’s always a feeling when I feel like I’ve stopped moving forward and my words are now simply marking time. I reach for another hat – my editing chapeau – and start editing The Camera Never Lies. Book 2. This is a key transition, but it’s something I’ve done pretty much every day during my corporate copywriting career over 25 years. I put my Book 3 storyline on hold, and reacquaint myself with another story that is a lot further down the road. And editing rather than writing helps – it somehow doesn’t feel as “creative”. Edit for another two hours. In a way this is kind of weird. For three hours I’ve been frantically adding words to a page as the word count goes up. Now I’m searching and destroying them in a drive to get the word count down.

12:30p.m. Lunch. Talk to our greyhound, who hasn’t moved all morning and shows no signs of wanting to start now.

1:00p.m. Now that my creative side needs refreshing, I head back to the hatstand for another change of hat, this time: marketing. This is for The Baggage Handler, my debut novel and the only book of mine people can currently buy, so it’s important to keep up the momentum from the launch. Write articles for a range of blogs and online magazines. Look over some questions for an upcoming podcast. Brainstorm ideas on how I can do something a little different to stand out in the marketplace. Update my web site, plan another newsletter.

4:00p.m. Pick up the kids from school. Another hat. From a different hatstand.

4:30p.m. Make dinner and answer any homework questions which don’t require me to dredge up 30-year-old memories from high school. During this time, ideas for new stories always push through to the surface. They always appear at first to be the most brilliant synopsis anyone has ever conceived, so I write them down so I don’t lose them. (Knowing that when I review them later the sheen of enthusiasm will look very different).

Evening. Another check of social media. The primary time for an Australian marketplace is 7p.m.-9p.m. Answer questions, contribute to other people’s social media efforts, share some posts from author friends.

Then head to bed, wishing tomorrow was another Writing Day. It isn’t, so instead I’ll need to grab those blocks of time as they become available. And I probably won’t need all the hats.

2. Handling pressure when writing under deadlines.

Deadlines don’t really bother me. That’s not false bravado, or someone living in denial.

I’m used to them based on my nearly 30 years as a copywriter. Every day of my working life I’ve had deadlines in front of me that need to be hit.

So I’ve taken that comfort into fiction, and I don’t really feel it like some authors do. If anything, the deadlines in publishing are spread further apart than what I’m used to, which is often getting deadlines that measure in the hours or days. Not months.

One key benefit of working in this field for as long as I have is that I’ve developed a way of pacing myself towards deadlines. That means when I’m facing a publishing deadline, I’ve got a fair idea of where I need to be in order to get there.

3. Did this book energize or exhaust you?

The Baggage Handler energized me. Once I got on a roll with it, I found I couldn’t wait to get back to it. I wanted to see how the characters were going to deal with their baggage, or if they’ve go on carrying it.

I also find that the creative process actually gives me energy rather than takes it away, up to a point.

I’ve also found the marketing of the book quite energizing as well. I’ve had a number of messages and emails from readers telling me how the book has impacted the way their think about their own lives and the baggage they may be carrying. I find that inspiring to hear that the story has played a role – however small – in helping people address the things in their life that are slowing them down.
