While most stories set in Regency England focus on the rich, the young, and the beautiful, award-winning author Carolyn Miller decided she wanted to give readers something different for a change. Her new Regency Wallflowers series follows the commoners, away from the hustle and bustle of 1810s London, out in the Lake District of England. She tells the stories of women who are slightly older and have few prospects for marriage, women who might be considered “wallflowers.”

Midnight’s Budding Morrow is the second book in the Regency Wallflowers series. The first book in the series is Dusk’s Darkest Shores.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Life just wasn’t turning out so well for Sarah Drayton. When her best friend invites Sarah to her families Northumberland castle estate, crumbling though it may be, Sarah was ecstatic learning what castle life was like. What Sarah wasn’t expecting is her best friend sneaks off and gets married and that Sarag herself would, against her will, end up in a marriage of convenience. To a drunk no less, with roguish ways that Sarah can not deal with. What will happen to her in this dysfunctional family?

Being married to a man who left for service immediately wasn’t easy for Sarah because of her own feelings of loneliness and just wanting someone around to love her and help her with running the castle. But when James suddenly returns, everything changes drastically. And I have to say even though I love Sarah, James was my favorite character. To watch his life and trying so hard to change. He is a very complex character that will stay with you for a while.

I love everything Carolyn Miller writes, and Midnight’s Budding Morrow is no different. In fact it is awesome, and one of my favorite books by Miller. I am giving Midnight’s Budding Morrow Five Stars.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Reclaiming Hope by Carolyn Miller is the last book in the Hooper Islands stories of the Independence Island Series. These stories seem to just keep going and going, but I am enjoying each one, and I will be sorry for this series to end.

I really enjoyed Kia and Callie’s story. Callie was the checklist sort of gal, and oh, she had to make sure that list was checked off. Kia was just the person for her. Their interactions with each other was so interesting to read about. I love how these character brought the story to life, and Ms. Miller does a fantastic job writing this story that has captured the attention of so many readers. This series are beach stories that really doesn’t have to be read at the beach, so don’t let the beach part keep you from checking out this story. This one is Five Stars from me!! I highly recommend you check out Reclaiming Hope for hours of enjoyment!

“Oh, ja, I know you don’t mind taking over her work, and of course, I don’t mind, either. The problem is . . . I’m not sure all our helping is gut for Miriam.” Naomi hesitated, her forehead crinkled with concern. “I am new to this family, Emma, and I don’t want to make trouble. It’s only that being sick for so long myself, I know better than most folks how tempting it can be to stop trying, especially if people around you make it easy to stay where you are.” 

It was plain how carefully Naomi was choosing her words, trying not to cause offense. Still, Emma felt stung. Since returning from her stay in Ohio, she’d taken on the job of Miriam’s care, making certain that her sister wasn’t upset or troubled, hoping that plenty of love and calm would speed her healing. 

“Well, but your sickness was a physical one, Naomi. Miriam saw our parents killed right in front of her. It’s no wonder she’s fearful, and I don’t think it’s wrong of us to be gentle with her.” 

“We should be gentle, ja. But we must help her see that she’s not only loved but also needed. Otherwise, I’m afraid her fears about going outside will settle in and be that much harder to get shed of.”

It is both exciting and sad to read the last Merriweather book. I have do much enjoyed each one of these stories. But then we have another series to follow so that’s exciting too. I will forever hand on to my Merriweather series though! And I love anything Carolyn Miller writes so I knew this one was going to be amazing! I really enjoyed following Samantha and Max. Their story was so fun to follow. I love the attraction between these too and are they really ready for it, well we can see what happens. If you read the story because I don’t give spoilers! Ms. Miller did do a fantastic job creating wonderful characters that will quickly grab at your heartstrings and keep them. The plot flows so well and I love the descriptions of the beautiful gardens, which probably come from Ms. Miller’s own gardens. If you love a good contemporary sweet and clean read. This is a very good place to start.

The Elusive Miss Elliston is the first book in Regency Brides: A Legacy of Grace Series. I love Ms. Miller’s books and enjoyed this one very much. It was fun and interesting for me reading the historical details of this small village in Regency England’s mid 1800’s. The author creates wonderful characters who tell their story so well. I like that faith is shown throughout the story. And the story was pretty predictable, but it is still intriguing to see how the event unfold. There is much that is happening to keep you reading and wanting to see just how the ending will be.

If you are a fan of Regency England, and Jane Austin, this is a book you are sure to enjoy. I highly recommend this for you. The Elusive Miss Elliston is a Five Star for me.

Mr. Darcy has a lot to answer for, doesn’t he?

I’ve long been a fan of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer, and my first historical romance, The Elusive Miss Ellison, was so fun to write as I worked to weave the social commentary of Jane Austen with the wit and romantic dash of Heyer, an unwavering Christian thread, and a dash of Aussie perspective.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK 

Caroline Hatherleigh knows her way around in the realm of society, after all she a viscounts daughter, and her actions shows that of someone who has been raised around a wealthy atmosphere. She thinks of no one but herself, she’s rude, doesn’t care how she acts. She reminds me of a big annoying brat! Thinking she needs a husband and not liking the guy she’s been hanging around, her mother sends her to south Devonshire, which is the best move her mom could have made! 

Gideon Kirby is a scientist who loves hunting down fossils and trying to figure out the past. But Gideon’s main thing is taking care of his loving sister who has a chronic illness. 

This is such an amazing story! I love the characters, and how each one develops so well as they play out the parts in the story. I love how Gideon takes such special care of his sister, doing whatever he need to do to take care of her. And then when Ms. Hatherleigh comes into the picture, she has such a sweet friendship with Emma. And her reaction to Gideon was awesome! Carolyn Hatherleigh changes from the brat she was to someone very different. I love the way Ms. Miller so expertly makes the changes in Carolyn’s life, and even showing times of her going back to her old self, but she turns out to be a likable person as she continues to change. I feel this is a very well researched and well written story, and I love how this author weaves the Christian life into the lives of her characters. When I finished reading this book, I had a warm feeling for these characters because of the Christian living so evenly written within the pages.  I love, love Carolyn Miller’s books and this one did not disappoint! I highly recommend this sweet Regency read to those loving this genre!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK 

This is the first book I’ve read of Carolyn Millers, and it definitely won’t be the last. This first story in the Regency Brides Series centers around Carherine Winthrop and someone who broke her heart many years ago. Jonathan Carlew is back in the picture, only this time it is to take the home of Catherine and her family after the loss of their dad. Tension flies around the house as the new Lord Winthrop takes over, bringing his snooty mother with him. I can’t say that I like the new Lord Winthrop’s mother, but what’s a book without a snooty, know it all character!

This is an amazing and fun story to read. I did feel bad for Catherine and her sister, but their mom is just too needy! She needs to get over living off every else’s money and accept life as it is for her. But sadly that won’t happen. She has lived her lifestyle too long to change.  I did enjoy Catherine and Jon and their tension and their relationship, so as it was, throughout the story. Jonathan is a good man, one that everyone it after because of his money. But though he is generous, he is also very businesslike and level headed with money. I enjoyed all of the characters, and how well they developed throughout the story. Ms. Miller does an amazing job of weaving everything together in the end.

All in all, I loved this Regency story of love and restoration! And I can’t wait for the next story in this series, Miss Serena’s story. I received this book from Kregel Publishers to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. I’m married, with four gorgeous children, who all love to read (and write!) as I do (except not in the Regency genre – funny, that!).

My favourite authors are classics like Jane Austen (of course!), Georgette Heyer, and Agatha Christie, but I also enjoy contemporary authors like Susan May Warren and Becky Wade.
