Book Description:
Do you have a story in you?

Do you know how to write it or how to tell it? Creating Stories has the answers. Hank Quense, the author of more than twenty books, tells you how to do it. He believes that stories come from the melding of three elements: getting ideas, story design and story-telling. Ideas have to come from the author. Creating Stories covers the last two. The book concentrates on developing characters including such rarely discussed requirements such as a dominant reader emotion and the character’s biography. Plots are also covered in depth and a number of graphics are included to illustrate complex points. Another topic discusses subplots and how to utilize them and how to nest them within the main plot. A separate chapter discusses the relationship between the plot and the emotional arcs. Other topics covered are: character arcs, scene design, point-of-view, writing voice.

Faux News Network Interviews Author Hank Quense

I’m Marcia Hammerhead and I’m the Cultural Reporter for Faux News Network. Today, against my better judgement, I’ll interview an unknown scribbler of so-called novels named Hank Quense. I guess I better get on with it. Stalling will only prolong my agony.

MH: Mr Quense, what is your so-called story about?

HQ: Moxie’s Problem is a coming-of-age adventure, Maud. The title character is an obnoxious, whiny teenage princess who discovers that life outside her father’s castle is much different then inside the castle.

MH: Princess? Castle? Is this one of those ridiculous fantasy genre stories?

HQ: It is, Martha. This one is set in Camelot, but it’s not the Camelot you’ve read about. This Camelot is in a parallel universe, so don’t expect the usual legends.

MH: You said this was fantasy, but parallel universes denote scifi, another ridiculous genre. Did you use this parallel universe device as an excuse to deceive potential book buyers into thinking they’re buying something they really don’t want?

HQ: Not at all, Miriam. My book is an opportunity for readers to enjoy something new and different.

MH: The name is Marcia. Why do I suspect this parallel universe is simply a device to allow you to trash all the beloved Camelot legends and tales?

HQ: Ahh, you got it, Margo. That’s exactly what I did. My Camelot is much different than the traditional Camelot

MH: You deserve to be flogged for this desecration. How dare you rewrite the precious and lovely legends from Camelot?

HQ: Maria, the world needs more parody stories and I’ve dedicated my life to filling that parody need.

MH: Have you ever considered writing true literature instead this genre rubbish?

HQ: True literature? How boring. I’d rather get a job.

MH: This interview is over. I refuse to speak with a despicable genre scribbler who has no respect for tradition.

HQ: Thanks for the interview, Margaret.

MH: My name is MARCIA!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I just read Creating Stories by Author Hank Quense and I really enjoyed it, so I was interested in what Quense had to say about Self Publishing a book. I found this book just as interesting, and what an author needs when launching out and self publishing a book. Having Self-publishing his own books, Quense sure knows what he is talking about, and does a fantastic job in explaining every one of his 10 steps. I like the simple and easy way this author makes it sound to Self-publish.

If you are wanting to self publish a book you have written, I highly recommend you read Hank Quense’s book. His explanations of what you need to do from the start to finish. I find this book is for everyone, from the new author to the seasoned one can benefit. It would be so easy to forget something in the process, but if you read Quense’s step by step instructions, its hard to forget something you should do. I highly recommend this book and I am giving it Five Stars.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Creating Stories by Hank Quense is a book that tells readers step by step how they can successfully write their own book. This is a unique book for me to read because I have been a professional book reviewer for over 10 years and I usually read stories, not books on how to write those stories. Hank Quense does a really good job writing this book so that anyone can understand it. He not only explains the points he is making, but he uses graphs, maps and other means to make sure the reader understands what he is teaching. He also gives many resources to help you if you need further assistance.

I like the way Quense explains in vivid details the steps from thinking of your story to finally have it written. He takes time to explain what potential writers need to do before they even start writing. This book is really for those who are serious about following this career. I don’t have any thoughts of writing a full fiction or non fiction book but I would enjoy writing a children’s book. And this book would be wonderful for a children’s book author. Anyone who seeks to be a published author. I’m giving this book Five Stars. It is a fantastic read for the writer wanna be!
