Book Description:
Need a laugh to get through your workday? You’ve come to the right place. Ambrose Bierce’s classic The Devil’s Dictionary took on life in general. Now a century later, it’s time to lampoon the business world. There’s no richer target than being told to think outside the box by leaders spouting off about synergy, teamwork, and innovation while at the same time exhorting you to stay in your swim lane. If as famed business guru Peter Drucker writes, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast,” then we’ve been asked to eat a dog’s breakfast at work for far too long! A little truth in every joke. Join the fun as the two lead authors and 50 other contributors offer their humorous take on how the workplace really operates. With almost 600 diabolical definitions to enjoy, you’re sure to find plenty to smile about.

GUEST POST FROM AUTHOR
Making the Workplace a Source of Income and Pleasure
Because it’s too often true, one of the entries in my new book Blah, Blah, Blah: A Snarky Guide to Office Lingo is JOY: A world that infiltrates the office by appearing on a few Christmas cards. Another entry is EMOJOIS: The feelings you would be having at work if they were allowed. As an emotions and, in particular, EQ (emotional intelligence) expert what my book is actually, implicitly arguing for—using humor to make my points—is that companies shouldn’t ignore the role that emotions can play in achieving positive outcomes at work.
Where does motivation come from? Feeling energized! Where does innovation come from? Feeling a light turn on in your head with a new idea that gets embraced, leading to happiness and hope that things can improve and pride when they do improve and you’ve got something accomplished! The recourse is to slid into despair and lethargy or else bouts of anger or simmering frustration.
There’s only 18 inches that separate our heads from our hearts. But too often at work, those 18 inches can become the equivalent of the Grand Canyon as senior management urges everyone to keep their head down and keep doing things as they’ve always been done. Then you end up with situations like UPPER MANAGEMENT: The people who get to park closer to the front door than do either the company’s visiting customers or those who are officially handicapped. Surely, we can do better – and that’s what Blah, Blah, Blah is ultimately all about!
