MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Wow! I knew this book had to be awesome when I saw the four amazing authors who writes these four novellas. Sincerely Yours is a sweet romance collection that I thoroughly enjoyed! Each of these authors bring their own unique writing style to each story, and I really can’t pick a favorite, because I loved them all! Each story was full of historical facts, information and details and I fell in love with each character as they played out their part in the story. And in addition to the history throughout each story, I really enjoyed the ending of each story where the author tells a bit more about the history behind the story they wrote. I just can’t say enough about each of these stories. And the one thing I love about a collection of novella’s, I can pretty much read one of the stories in one setting. So if you don’t have time for a full length book, this one is just what you need!

 A Reluctant Courtship

 by Laurie Alice Eakes

A woman without a prospect. A man without a homeland. Can love give them a future?

9781441243089Honore Bainbridge has been courted by two men, one of whom turned out to be a traitor, the other a murderer. Banished to her family’s country estate, where she will hopefully stay out of trouble, she finally meets the man she is sure is exactly right for her: Lord Ashmoor. Tall, dark, and handsome–what more could a girl ask for?

But he too is under suspicion because of his American upbringing and accusations that he has helped French prisoners escape from Dartmoor Prison. If he’s to keep out of a British prison himself and secure his place in British society, Lord Ashmoor needs a wife beyond reproach–something the vexingly beautiful Honore certainly is not. Though they find themselves drawn to each other, family obligations may conspire to keep them apart forever.

For the sake of her heart, Honore determines to prove Ashmoor’s innocence–even if doing so risks her own life.

From the first sentence, award-winning author Laurie Alice Eakes thrusts you into high drama amid the rocky cliffs of Devonshire, England, and keeps you suspended there until the final page.

My Thoughts On This Book

Honore Bainbridge just hasn’t made good choices when it comes to men, since one was a murderer and traitor, and now this third one isn’t what Honore thought he was. Thus tainting her family’s name. Lord Ashmoor is looking for a respectable wife but he is not sure he wants that wife to be Honore Bainbridge. But Lord Ashmoor has his own family background he has to worry about too!  I felt bad for Honore as she strives to find a man who truly loves her for who she is, and one who doesn’t have a suspected past. Honore’s character was interesting and captivating and caught my attention from the beginning of the book. And I didn’t put this book down very many times because I wanted to follow Honore and see what the next step life had for her.

I really enjoyed the history throughout this book on Great Britain during the war. I didn’t know a lot about this time in history, so it was very interesting to have a glimpse of the life of those living then. There is a lot going on in this book, so you will be captivated by the story and the setting while you read A Reluctant Courtship. I encourage you to purchase your copy asap for a wonderful read! And since this is the last book in The Daughters of Bainbridge House trilogy, why not pick up the first two books in this series too! You will be blessed as you read these three books from Laurie Eakes.

About this book!

She thought she had left her old life behind . . .

Esther Cherrett comes from a proud line of midwives and was trained by her mother to take over the family calling. When a terrible scandal threatens all she holds dear, Esther flees, taking a position as a teacher in the wild western mountains of Virginia. But instead of the refuge she was seeking, Esther finds herself in the midst of a deadly family feud-and courted by two men on opposite sides of the conflict. All she wants is to run away again.

Yet could it be that her past holds the key to reconciliation-and love?

In this gripping story of trust, deception, and bittersweet loss, you’ll discover the true meaning of choices of the heart.

My Thoughts on this Book!

Esther finds herself running when she is in a difficult situation, but finds out that other situations can come up where she ran too, making life even more difficult. And the worst thing is, Esther is running from what God wants for her. But Esther finds out that she can trust and depend on the people around her, those people in the backwoods mountain that she would otherwise have nothing to do with.

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical fiction by Laurie Eakes, and especially the backwoods people in the mountains of Virginia. Growing up in Virginia, and the little community where I grew up, we were some of those backwoods people back in those days, so I feel in love with them! The characters were so realistic, and the plot was exciting and interesting enough to keep my nose in this book until the end!

I highly recommend this, especially if you enjoy historical fiction. You will be glad you picked up this one.

Heart’s Safe Passage by Laurie Alice Eakes

Heart’s Safe Passage

 by Laurie Alice Eakes

It’s 1813 and all Phoebe Lee wants out of life is to practice midwifery in Loudon County, Virginia. When Belinda, her pregnant sister-in-law, presses Phoebe to accompany her onto a British privateer in order to cross the Atlantic and save her husband from an English prison, Phoebe tries to refuse, then finds herself kidnapped.

Captain Rafe Docherty is a man in search of revenge. His ship is no place for women, but he needs Belinda in order to obtain information about the man who destroyed his family and his life. Between Belinda’s whining and Phoebe’s hostility, Rafe can’t help but wonder if he made the right choice.
When it becomes apparent there is an enemy among them on the ship, the stakes are raised. Will they reach the English shore in time? Can love and forgiveness overcome vengeance?

Book 2 in The Midwives series, Heart’s Safe Passage is a stirring tale of love, intrigue, and adventure on the high seas. Readers will feel the salt spray and the rolling waves as they journey with Laurie Alice Eakes’s vivid characters on the treacherous path toward redemption.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The year is 1813 and the War of 1812 has been underway, thus being the reason that Belinda is determined to travel aborad a British privateer in order to rescue her husband from an English prison. She’s made a deal with the ships captain, Rafe Docherty and now she needs to talk her sister-in-law into going with her to be her midwife, and everything will be in line to take off. This turns out to be a not so easy task because sister-in-law Phoebe has no intentions to get on the ship. But Belinda ends up making it happen, and so the story begins.

Ralph is just as frustrated as Phoebe that she is on the ship, no way does he want to deal with two American women, but he finds himself attracted to her and ends up helping her along the way. I really like Rafe. Being the captain of the ship, he is tough and incharge, yet we see the caring side of him too, and especially with his feelings for Phoebe. He’s been struggling with things in his past, but now we see his new stuggles with how he feels about Phoebe and thinking about a normal life with her.

Phoebe endures much from being lied to by Belinda, but she is a tough lady and soon we see her faith and strength and her caring personality as she tries to help Rafe with his struggles. She takes a lot off of Belinda on the trip too, and it’s really sickening how Belinda is so spoiled and expectes Phoebe to wait on her. Belinda will do what it takes to get her way. She’s the character in the book that gets on everyone’s nerves, you gotta have them right? She’s just a spoiled brat!

I thought this was a wonderful story and I enjoyed it immensely. The characters were very well created and developed, believable and likeable. Well that is except for Belinda, but really the story wouldn’t have been as good without her! The historical setting, events, ship life, and everything was very well researched and amazingly detailed. And having been to Williamsburg several times, it was fun to imagine the setting there as I read the story. Very well thought out and written story. It will be well worth your time to grab a copy of this book to read and enjoy for yourself.
