Juliette’s story has been a long one in the making for Vetsch who first started playing with the storyline idea ten years ago. The author originally imagined the story taking place in New York during the Gilded Age, but adapted it to the Regency Era. Although we’re inundated with TV and streaming programs that feature police procedures today, getting the details right for 1816 was a new adventure for Vetsch, “There was quite a bit of research involved in this one, from police procedures to art history. Much studying of maps and the hierarchy of society, the lives of British spies, and fitting it all into the political and social situations of the times. The Bow Street detectives didn’t have our current levels of forensic science to help identify culprits. They relied upon eyewitness testimony, circumstantial evidence, catching someone red-handed, and by following the paperwork/money trail. Some things have not changed though. The main motives for lawbreaking still fall into three categories: money, power, and sex. Who has it, who wants it, who wants to deny someone else from acquiring it? And in Regency times, the detectives were still looking for motive, means, and opportunity.”

I was so excited for the chance to read this third book in the Serendipity & Secrets Series by Erica Vetsch. It is so very good, just like the first two books. Captain Charles Wyvern suddenly found himself Earl of Rothwell at his uncle’s death, and at the tims he was escorting a grieving fiance and her mother safely to a new cottage home by the sea. Due to all of the circumstances, Wyvern Charles proposes a marriage of convenience to the bereaved Lady Sophia Haverly. Surprisingly, Lady Sophia is ok with this arrangement, he can help care for her betrothed’s elderly mother, and she’s already fallen in love with the wayward girls on the Rothwell estate. So this may just work. But this seemingly easy situation wasn’t easy at all. They suffered many different and difficult issues and caused more heartaches and life wasn’t good at all.

I enjoyed this last book to the series. I think it was a great ending to the story. I enjoyed following the Earl and his marriage of convenience wife on their journey as husband and wife. The underlying slow going romance was so sweet. I loved when the attraction started between the two. It went a bit slow for me but u was wanting to hurry it along. This is a sweet historical romance that I know you will enjoy, especially if you are a historical romance buff. I five this one Five Stars!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK 

I was excited to read and review The Gentleman Spy! I love the first book in the Serendipity & Secrets series. I do feel that book one, The Lost Lieutenant should be read before you read this one. Even though the main characters are different and the plot is different, you will get the full impact of the story so much more reading them in order. That said, let’s get on with the review! 

I haven’t read anything from the author before reading this series, and I will say, I will surely be looking for more books from Erica Vetsch in the future. I love stories with a Regency setting, and this one is Fabulous! I enjoyed getting to know Marcus in the first book, and Charlotte was a delight getting to know. I love her spunk! And I even like her attitude toward her Father, despite how a high society lady is suppose to act! As Charlotte’s character developed throughout the story, my respect for her grew even more. Marcus is a nice guy but her really gets on my nerves about how he treats Charlotte. It seemed she was getting the treatment every way she turned. Ms. Vetsch has her work cut out for her trying to tackle these men, and a spunky young lady with a mind of her own. And this is not all that’s going on in this story. Many twists and turns take this story in several directions. And I love the way this author weaves all of these issues together and creates an amazing ending. And I have to mention the way she shows the faith of these characters in such a subtle way, that everyone will find it more enjoyable and entertaining to read. If you are a Regency type person as I am, you will love this story. I strongly encourage you to pick up a copy of this book and read it for yourself.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK 

The Lost Lieutenant is the first book in the Serendipity & Secrets series. I love this book. Evan never dreamed or wanted to be in the situation he is in, owning a mansion, having the title of an Earl, and especially being married to a stranger. 

As difficult as this relationship is between Evan and his new wife, the story is so interesting to read. Diana stole my heart from the beginning! Her dad and brother has just been evil to her, and now they had no day over her. And I was never so glad. Both Diana and Evan we in a situation they didn’t ask for, but I was cheering them on all along. And hoping they would be as good for each other as it seemed. This book and book 2, you can read my review above this, is the only books I have read from author Erica Vetsch, and I am wanting more from this author and will surely be looking for other books by her. If you enjoy books written about the famous Regency era, you will love this one!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK 

Of Rags and Riches is a collection of none novellas from nine amazing authors. Set in the mid to late 1800’s, each story is of poverty as well as luxury during this Guilded Age in our history. My review focuses on the first story in this book, Jennifer Uhlarik’s Union Pacific Princess. And as I read each of the other stories, each one is so well written, going a little deeper than a lot if the novellas I have read. This Of Rags and Riches is truly one of the best books in the Barbour Publishers Collections I have read…..

In Union Pacific Princess, Dara is headed to the Dakota Territory to see her father, who is working to get the railroad through the territory. This is definitely not the life she is use to living in Boston, but when Gage injures himself while protecting Dara and her cousin Becca, Dara is determined to help him until his injuries are healed. However, this does not sit well with Gage, since he is in the Dakota Territory to stop the railroad Dara’s dad is trying to build. This is not sounding too good for Gage!

I love Dara. She is sweet and caring, but her father, his attitude did much to hurt Dara even more. But Dara could stand her own very well, and her feisty attitude proved it more than once! Author Jennifer Uhlarik does a really nice job of creating characters and writing them into her story on a way we all can love. I love how she writes so many different angles to this story, then weaves them all together in the end. If you love historical fiction, especially Christian and clean reads, you will love this story. And you will love all of the other Stories in the Of Rags and Riches Romance Collections from Barbour Publishers!

Jennifer Uhlarik discovered the western genre as a preteen, when she swiped the only “horse” book she found on her older brother’s bookshelf. A new love was born. Across the next ten years, she devoured Louis L’Amour westerns and fell in love with the genre. In college at the University of Tampa, she began penning her own story of the Old West. Armed with a BA in writing, she has won five writing competitions and was a finalist in two others.
