To Capture Her Heart  by Rebecca DeMarino

In an uncertain time, she faces a choice that will change her life forever

It is 1653 and Heather Flower, a princess of the Montaukett tribe, is celebrating her wedding feast when a rival tribe attacks, killing the groom and kidnapping her. Though her ransom is paid by an Englishman, she is bound by her captors and left to die–until she finds herself rescued by handsome Dutch Lieutenant Dirk Van Buren.

Still tender from her loss, Heather Flower begins to heal in the home of the Hortons, English friends of her people. Torn between her affection for Dirk and her longtime friendship with Ben Horton, Heather Flower must make a difficult choice–stay true to her friend or follow her heart.

Exploring a unique slice of history, Rebecca DeMarino transports you to the wild land that would eventually become Long Island, New York.

My Thoughts on This Book

When you read this book, you will enjoy reading the author’s notes because she tells of this series being inspired by the history of her family in settling in NY on what is now called Long Island. The historical facts in the story is amazing, and to me, that’s what makes these stories so interesting. The nature of the story is pretty slow, Heather Flower, a princess of the Montaukett tribe had a horrible wedding, her husband being killed on their special day. The story is difficult to read at times, because of the horrific situations. But there are also tender moments with Heather Flower with the two men who had their eye on her. But who would be the best fit for Heather Flower’s new husband. Her long time friend, Ben Horton, or the Englishman that captured her? Reading this book will tell who wins her heart, and you will enjoy the entertainment while you are reading. Rebecca DeMarino is a new favorite author for me!

With tender hearts, Mary and Barnabas take a leap of faith and wed. But when Barnabas’s secret plans to move his family to the New World to escape persecution come to light, Mary’s world is upended. How could she possibly leave her papa and her dear sister?

And will she ever reach the secret places of her husband’s broken heart?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Mary and Barnabas’ story was a very interesting story that I really enjoyed! Mary was a strong woman, but I had to feel sorry for her because she always knew that Barnabas was still hanging on to his dead wife’s love and didn’t really love her, even when they married, and throughout their marriage. But Mary was still a good wife and mother to Barnabas’ two sons. These characters quickly capture my attention because the story was so intriguing, and entertaining, and the author does a wonderful job of keeping your attention! I loved the vivid descriptions of the scenes throughout the book. When I finished reading this book, I felt like I had met a new family to call my friends!
