A GIFT FOR ROSE

by Tricia Goyer

ABOUT THIS BOOK

A Christmas Gift for Rose

Rose turned her back on the man she loves after he assisted the Englisch during World War II—only to discover she’s an Englischer herself. Born in the midst of the hardships of The Great Depression, Rose grew up in Berlin, Ohio, in the arms of a loving Amish family. But she is overwhelmed by self-doubt when she learns that she was born Englisch and abandoned when her family moved West in search of work. Was she meant to be Amish or would she have been better off growing up with her own kind—Englischers? When the man she loves leaves her behind, Rose is certain he left for good. Yet Rose discovers sometimes our greatest gifts are the ones we fear.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Rose is content to stay true to her Amish roots. This is why she broke up with her boyfriend, because he decided to join the military in the medical department, and Amish are not to go to war. But then Rose finds out a secret that changes her whole life. I really enjoyed really A Gift for Rose. Roses’ concerns are heartfelt because she is torn between her Amish beliefs and the love of her life, or so she thought he was. But she just can’t seem to find just where she fits in life. Sometimes this book is a bit depressing because of the issues Rose and her family faces, as especially it happening during the Christmas Holiday’s, but sometimes that is how life is.

Again Tricia Goyer delivers a heartwarming story with characters that you will love, and will warm your heart.  A lot of situations happened leading up to Christmas day for Rose’s family, and they were able to enjoy a surprise because of this at their Christmas meal. And Rose was the one who benefited the most, because she is the one who received the most special gift. If you are looking for a really good Christmas read, this is a good one to read!

I received this book from Litfuse to read and review.  I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

Lead Your Family Like Jesus by Tricia Goyer, Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges

Lead Your Family Like Jesus

Lead-Your-Familysm-e1360603289982
Lead Your Family Like JesusPowerful Parenting Principles from the Creator of Families

(Focus on the Family/Tyndale) – Does your family need a five-star general at the helm? A psychologist? A referee? Ken Blanchard, best-selling co-author of The One Minute Manager and Lead Like Jesus, points to a better role model: the Son of God. Joined by veteran parents and authors Phil Hodges and Tricia Goyer, renowned business mentor Blanchard shows how every family member benefits when parents take the reins as servant-leaders. Moms and dads will see themselves in a whole new light—as life-changers who get their example, strength, and joy from following Jesus at home. This user-friendly book’s practical principles and personal stories mark the path to a truly Christ-centered family, where integrity, love, grace, self-sacrifice, and forgiveness make all the difference.

Lead Your Family Like Jesus Booklet.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Lead Your Family Like Jesus is a really pratical book on how to teach your family about God’s leading through the eyes of three well known authors. In the four sections, The Heart, The Head, The Hands and The Habits, there is a section for each author, each giving their insights. I found this book very interesting to be able to have all three authors giving their opinions together so I could compare what they said. They all believe same thing, just say it in a different way. This book is easy to read and understand, is full of practical advise and ideas, and is also full of scripture backing up what is taught.

This is a wonderful book for any family. I encourage you to pick up a copy for your library.

Love Finds You in Glacier Bay Alaska by Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss

Love Finds You in Glacier Bay Alaska

by Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss

Glacier-Bay[1]

About this book!

Singer Ginny Marshall is one signature away from the recording contract of her dreams—a deal that would guarantee success for the former foster child, who still struggles to bury the memories of her painful childhood. But Ginny needs advice from the one person who will look out for her best interests—her former fiancé, Brett Miller. She travels to the remote town of Glacier Bay, Alaska, where the town’s colorful characters and stunning scenery provide respite from LA’s pressures.

In Glacier Bay, Ginny discovers a box of old letters and is swept up in the love story between Clay, an early missionary to Alaska Territory, and Ellie, the woman who traveled there to be his children’s governess. When Ginny is reunited with Brett in Glacier Bay, will she discover—as Ellie did—that healing and love are sometimes found in the most unexpected places?

Pre-order a copy here.

My Thoughts on this Book

It had been two years since Ginny had walked away from Brett’s love and a life with him, but she didn’t realize what she really did until her trip to Alaska to ask Brett’s advice on a recording contract. He was to one she really trusted enough to talk to about it. But why was she really there? Was Brett’s grandmother Ethel right that maybe God sent her there?

Wow I love, love this wonderfully written story by Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss! Ginny’s trip back to Glacier Bay and her journey through the letters Grandma Ethel wanted her to read turned out to be one of the most beautiful and tender stories I have ever read. And I loved Grandma Ethel. She surely lived a loved and blessed life, even though it was simple and she didn’t have a lot of material things. She really knew what was really important in life. And she wanted to make sure Ginny found that out too. But it wasn’t always easy. And I appreciate how the authors show how important it is to make sure we are doing what God wants us to do in our everyday lives.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, clean Christian story. You will truly be happy with this one. A copy of this book was provided by Litfuse. I was not required or expected to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.

Ocieanna Fleiss’s passion for writing grew out of two seeds. The first was when her third grade teacher instructed her to read a story she wrote in front of class. As the characters lost their pants, revealing all sorts of goofy underwear, the kids howled with laughter. (What greater comedic height is there for a third grader?) Ocieanna craved more.

The second seed was planted when, as an adult, Ocieanna read The Robe by Lloyd C. Douglas. This book actually challenged her to grow as a person and Christian. Other books have made similar impact, and Ocieanna decided to try her hand at harnessing the power of story to share the healing and life-giving power of the gospel–faith alone, grace alone, Christ alone.

Ocieanna hopes her first book, Love Finds You in Lonesome Prairie, Montana, combines her passion for fun with her compassionate heart.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

If you enjoy Amish fiction, you will sure enjoy Tricia Goyer’s new book The Memory Jar. I really like the Memory Jar idea for best friends Patty and Sarah. It is a good way to store memories, and in Sarah’s case it is especially special after Sarah is left to go through life alone. Then Sarah meets Jathan, and things started changing in her life.

Tricia Goyer creates wonderful realistic character that we grow to love as the story unfolds and the characters develop so well. The story started a little slow for me, but then as it developed, and the story took a different twist, tensions rise, gossip spreads, people started backing off and acting strange, and Sarah started questioning her earlier decisions. It seems like Jathan has more baggage to take care of than either of them thought. But Tricia Goyer weaves the characters, situations, difficulties, doubts and people along with more twists and turn and brings a story that will keep you reading until the last page, while it warms you heart in a special way. You will love this Amish community and its people when you pick up your copy of The Memory Jar.

Book Blurb:

Beyond Hope’s Valley – Book Three in the Big Sky series After an extended stay in Montana, where Amish traditions are different than in her home state, Marianna Sommer returns to Indiana for two reasons, first to help her brother and his girlfriend prepare for a baby and their wedding. Second, to plan her own wedding to Aaron Zook — a marriage she’s been dreaming about ever since childhood. And yet, although she had missed the idyllic farms and families of her upbringing, Marianna is surprised that Indiana is somehow making her long now for Montana.
As months pass, secrets that were hidden in winter’s frozen grasp thaw and take on a life of their own. The truths about a child, about a past relationship, and about God’s plans are being revealed. Walking through a valley of questions, Marianna must hold on to hope as she decides where and with whom her heart truly belongs.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK~

Tricia Goyer has been a favorite author for me since I read her first book months ago. I love Amish fictions too, so take makes this book and this series even better! You can read the book blurb to see what the book is about! And as far as the writing and characters, they are so unique and very real life. I really appreciate how Tricia writes the Bible and how to live by its principles throughout her books, and they are certainally not preachy. It’s just every day life. I have enjoyed Marianna throughout the entire series, seeing the changes in her life, the way she can freely have a relationship with Jesus like it is suppose to be.

I can’t say enough about “Beyond Hope’s Valley” or the other two books in the series. I would encourage you to run and grab a copy of this awesome book, and if you haven’t read the first two in the series, you are missing a real treat.

By the Light of the Silvery Moon    by Tricia Goyer!

I absolutely love this book. The cover is beautiful, the title is catching, the story is awesome and intriguing, and the characters created by the author are so like read that I think about them as my own friends and family. Amelia is someone we all need to be more like, with her heart for those people that most just ignore. As we all think about the 100th anniversary o the tragic sinking of the Titanic, what better way that to read a fictional story that puts the reader right there in the middle of it all, reliving it all. From the time the passenger’s starts boarding the ship until the tragic accident is over, we live with the characters, from the rich to the poor that were aboard that ship. We hear the bragging from the ship’s creator that The Titanic is unsinkable. No one fears a thing because of the promises made that they are all sure safe and sound.  Tricia gives the reader a detailed picture of what happened on that sad and tragic day. She sure did her job in researching every little detail in the entire process. When you start this book, you will not want to put it down until the very last page is read. This is a book that everyone would enjoy reading. Why not give honor and remembrance to all of those passengers who lost their lives, and those who lived only to have the tragedy to remember for the rest of their lives.

Book Blurb

It is August 1944 and Paris is on the cusp of liberation. As the soldiers of the Third Reich flee the Allied advance, they ravage the country, stealing countless pieces of art. Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring will stop at nothing to claim the most valuable one of all, the Mona Lisa, as a post-war bargaining chip to get him to South America. Can Swiss OSS agents Gabi Mueller and Eric Hofstadler rescue DaVinci’s masterpiece before it falls into German hands?

With nonstop action, Chasing Mona Lisa is sure to get readers’ adrenaline pumping as they join the chase to save the most famous painting in the world. From war-ravaged Paris to a posh country chateau, the race is on–and the runners are playing for keeps.

My Thoughts

I don’t really know a lot about old art pieces, but I do like to read about them, and reading Chasing Mona Lisa was filled with detailed information about this wonderful painting. All of this information clearly shows the amount of time the author spent in researching this book, and how well she planned the writing of this book.

But for me, even though the history part was interesting, the book was difficult for me to read. It just didn’t grab me in the way I like for books to do. We follow the journey of the Mona Lisa that Colette is to be protecting, whatever the cost. In this fast pace chase trying to protect this piece of famous art, the authors have created characters that are powerful and brave, and willing to do whatever it order to make sure no one gets their hands on this painting.

If you enjoy art and history, you would enjoy reading about the Mona Lisa piece of art. I recommend that you purchase this book and see for yourself what you think of it!

About the book:

35-year-old Ava Andrews’ dream job is interrupted by an unusual request–fulfill her 84-year-old grandfather’s last wish by joining him on a battle site tour of Europe. Ava is sure her boss will refuse her request. But, instead, he gives her a directive of his own–to videotape the tour and send it back as mini-segments for the show she produces.

As if juggling these two things isn’t hard enough, Ava is soon surprised again … twice. First, Ava and Grandpa Jack arrive in Europe, only to discover the tour is cancelled. Unwilling to let down her grandfather or her boss, Ava and Grandpa Jack head out on their own. Then, while they’re on their way, the pair soon meet up with Paul, her grandpa’s best friend, and his grandson Dennis. The same Dennis who just happens to be Ava’s first love.

Before she knows it, Ava and Dennis are swept down memory lane as they visit the sites that are discussed in the history books. And even though Ava’s videotaping old soldiers, she can see their youth, their hopes and fears, and their pride in their eyes. Soon Ava learns the trip isn’t just for them … it’s for her too–especially for her heart.

My Thoughts

Ava Ellington’s grandpa had planned a trip back to Europe to tour World War II battle sites, after so many years being there in fighting the battles. Ava’s mom cannot go with him, so she agrees to go. In Paris, Jack meets up with his long time friend Grand-Paul and his grandson Dennis. When they meet the other tour people at the hotel, they find out that due to unexpected circumstances, they don’t have a tour guide so Dennis and Ava decide to take Jack and Paul on their own tour. This unique and very interesting tour takes us on a journey of a lifetime as we look into the past experiences, tragedies and personal lives of these two great men as they were fighting WWII.

I really enjoyed this wonderful story taking Jack and Paul back to remembering this time in their life. I laughed and cried with Jack and Paul as they flashed back to the times they had during the war. Ava did sometimes annoy me putting her work first. It seemed at times she was more worried about getting the footage she needed than the feelings of her grandpa and Grand-Paul. I did find the characters unique and very likeable, especially after getting to know them better. This is truly a book well worth reading.

If you like a look back to WWII, that leans more toward contemporary fiction, you will love this book. So just go grab a copy, read and enjoy it!

Book 2 in A Big Sky Series

About The Book

All she wanted was a simple Amish life . . . But now Marianna Sommer finds herself depending on Englisch neighbors. Although proud of living apart from the world, she and her newly relocated Amish family have discovered that life in the remote mountains of Montana requires working together.

As Marianna begins helping those different from herself—and receiving their help—her heart contemplates two directions. She’s torn between the Amish man from Indiana whom she has long planned on marrying and the friendly Englischer who models a closer walk with God than she’s ever seen before.

Who should have young Marianna’s heart? What is God asking her to sacrifice? Her traditions? Her community? The answer is found along the wooded paths.

My Thoughts

This is my first book by Tricia Goyer, and now I will need to read Beside Still Waters! I love Amish fiction and Tricia’s book was so very good! I now see what I have missed out on not hearing about her books before now.

Marianna is living in Montana with her family, living close to and interacting with the Englisch neighbors. She is enjoying what she is learning about the English beliefs in God, and the blessing of knowing God in a way she has never known him before.

But the tensions arise as Marianna struggles with her feelings toward Ben and her Amish boyfriend Aaron, and things even get sticker when her mom invites Aaron to visit the family. And it gets even worse when Aaron has an accident that strands him at Marianna’s home leaving her mom to take care of him.  I invite you to join Marianna as the journey continues including these two young men in her life, and her growing relationship with the Lord.

Marianna seems so torn between Ben and the Amish boyfriend she left behind, Aaron. Both of these guys are good men and would make a wonderful husband to Marianna, but she just needs to follow God’s leading just to who that might be. The eagerness to find out what would happen with Marianna kept me reading and turning the pages! I really like Tricia’s style of writing about the Amish community and people. She creates characters and weaves them into the story making them so realistic and unique you want to claim them as your own family!

I encourage you to grab a copy of this book, and Beside Still Waters if you haven’t read that one, a cup of coffee and enjoy a good ole Amish read by Tricia Goyer!
