She won’t meet her worst enemy on the battlefield…

War is brewing and the kingdom of Sindaleer is torn as the Knights of Norcir draw the folk to their side. When Sabriel, a specially Gifted, pledges her blood to their cause, she is ready to give all to bring the peace her leader promises. She understands Tirich’s deep hatred toward the king, and has prepared for this moment all her life. But when her identity as a knight is discovered by the childhood friend who betrayed her years ago, Sabriel’s plans for justice come toppling down. Now distracted by what once was, Sabriel fights to hold onto what she’s believed to be true for so long.

Nick never forgot the red-headed lass of years past, but she’s not the friend he remembers. As enemies connected by their past take opposing sides on their country’s freedom, Nick refuses to believe what she’s become.

Voices warning Sabriel she’ll never succeed, and loyalties torn, she begins to realize that all is not as it seems. Tirich’s power is growing stronger, and she fears she was wrong about the good she once saw in him.

The concluding book following The Broken Prince, reminds us of the inner war we all face, and what it means to rise from the ashes when all hope feels lost.

Interview for Splashes of Joy

1. A day in the life of Kara Linaburg?

It depends on the day haha. When I’m not working at my job at Panera Bread, I get up around six, drink my coffee and write for a few hours. Afterwards I try and do some kind of workout, which normally means walking or running for a couple miles. I hang out with my family, read random books, write some more (by this time, outside and barefoot if the weather is nice). I lead a pretty boring life honestly, but it’s mine and I love it.

2. Where is your favorite place to write?

On my back porch. I am a nature child at heart, and I don’t remember a time where I wasn’t happiest outside. We have this glider and I sit there with my laptop until it gets too hot. In the winter though, you can normally find me hanging out at the kitchen table super early before my fam is all up.

3. Do you write with or without music playing?

Both. When a scene is really intense, I’ll turn off the music or if I’m plotting I need lots of quiet. But with editing or just scenes I already have plotted out, I’ll be jamming to lots of music (preferably a nice mixture of alternative rock, indie, and hard rock).

4. What book from your childhood has shaped you most as a writer?

Ohh good question! The Chronicles of Narnia, because that was when I knew I wanted to write the kind of books that showed people the light in themselves as well as the darkness. C.S Lewis did an amazing job at reaching all ages with his in depth yet simple storyworld, and I wanted to create my own.

5. What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

I am a mess. 😉 Honestly though, it’s the truth. I didn’t realize how terrible at getting a schedule I was. I’m a very schedule oriented person in other things but NOT writing. I realized how I needed to get myself together and figure out a system instead of just running with it.

6. If I write a review of your book, what do you want to hear?

That even if you hated my book to death and threw it across the room, that I displayed broken characters in a broken world who showed readers how to rise. That’s the goal of any of my books or characters. It’s why I began writing and it inspires me to keep going when I hear that people got that message from what I wrote.

The Broken Prince (The Broken Prince #1) By Kara Linaburg YA Fantasy Paperback & ebook, 217 Pages June 3, 2019

In all the fairy tales the maiden falls in love with the prince…but she has to remember that this isn’t a fairy tale…

Born into a kingdom where those of magical Gifts are rejected, feared, and even killed, Serena has spent her life striving to hide her ability and keep her younger brother safe.

The bastard son of the hated king and father he hardly knows, Prince Milosh is considered an outcast. He never expects to feel anything but contempt for the peasant girl who unexpectedly shows up in his life, forcing him to answer questions he never wished to ask.

When two very different worlds are thrown together under less than desirable circumstances, both hold deep judgement towards the other. But will they learn to see beyond their stations and birth so that they may defeat the coming darkness, or will labels given to them at birth continue to define them?

A heart-stopping tale about the power of human love, and how each of us are never truly alone.
