where can i fleeWhere Can I Flee

War is on the horizon during the spring of 1861. It will be an event that will change the lives of everyone in its path. The Harper family included.

Frank Harper is a young man full of dreams and ambitions. Even when the country is split and war breaks out, Frank will do whatever is necessary to see his dreams come true, even when that means putting on a uniform and leaving home.

For the first time, Claire Harper is forced to consider the reasons behind such a conflict. Should slavery be abolished? Which side should she be on, and what does God have to say about this? Claire is torn between her own opinions and those of her family. The struggle within her only increases when she repeatedly runs into a kind and handsome Union soldier. She longs to see her brother turn to Christ before it is too late. Desperate to reach her brother with the gospel, Claire pens a series of inspiring letters. Will she be able to handle all the obstacles of war and continue to be a witness to those around her?

How long can Claire last when her heart is torn in half and she is burdened for her brother’s soul? How long can Frank resist his sister’s urgent pleas or the gentle tugging from within? Can a man outrun a holy God?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Where Can I Flee
This is my first book by this author, and I thoroughly enjoyed Where Can I Flee! Claire Harper is struggling with her brother fighting in the war because she doesn’t want to loose him. After going to church and hearing the gospel, Claire gives her life to the Lord, and her concern for her brother is even more severe because she knows he is not a Christian. A. M. Heath does a fabulous job of giving the gospel of Jesus to her readers through the lives of these wonderful characters. The characters are believable and the more I read the story the more I felt like they were real friends.

The setting being during the Civil War, it was difficult to read a lot of the scenes because of the sadness of the tragic events. But through it all, the characters and families were brought closer together with each other and with the Lord. This is truly a book that you do not want to miss, especially if you are a fan of books written during the Civil War!

In the Shadow of Thy Wings

in the shadow of thy wingsDevastation sweeps across the land, and the families of Maple Grove cannot escape when war arrives at their front doors. After her father entrusts her with a new and dangerous task, Sally Chandler must find the courage to obey despite her fear. Meanwhile, her best friend, Claire Harper, is determined to serve others, even if it means putting herself in danger. But with a certain handsome Union soldier stationed nearby, Claire finds her heart in danger of falling for the enemy. Their differing loyalties create complications that neither could expect; her twin brother fighting for the Confederacy is only one of them. Frank Harper left home with one goal in mind – to become a prosperous plantation owner. Two years later, not only is he further from his goal, but he’s beginning to question his own desires–something that becomes more complicated when his heart becomes involved. The families of Maple Grove must learn how to survive the uncertainty of war and a country split in two. While the war in the nation rages on, the battle within grows stronger. Will they learn that the only safe place to hide is in the shadow of Thy Wings?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

In the Shadow of Thy Wings centers around the Maple Grove neighborhood during the war, and those facing horrific and difficult situations. Claire harper is determined to help those who are injured in the war, which puts her in the path of a certain Union Soldier, and in a dangerous situation. Frank Harper never dreamed that two years after he enlisted, he would still be fighting in the war, but there seems to be no end. This book took a few interesting twists and turns that made the story more entertaining and mysterious, and I couldn’t put it down! Again, the characters in In The Shadow of Thy Wings were well developed, likeable and believable. This is a series that I want to read again, just to see if I missed anything the first time. I highly recommend In The Shadow of Thy Wings, and I can’t wait for book three in this series. I encourage you to check this book out today!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Ben and Becca are faced with the horror of their daughter having the deadly smallpox illness, which is spreading throughout the area, with no medicines available to help. And on top of that, when Ben’s family venture out to find the vaccine they need, Jonah is injured, which leads him to Ava, who we may here from in another book!

As the illness continues to spread, Rebecca realizes the medicine that can help her daughter is far beyond her reach, so she is left to trust the Lord with her daughter. Rebecca is a strong, determined lady with a life full of faith, and it was clearly evident as she helped nurse her daughter and depend on the Lord for the healing. This was not an easy thing, the fear, the struggles, the sacrifices she and her husband made, left Rebecca with no one else. This is truly a book of unconditional love of a mother for her child. To read the faith of this character was a challenge to me. Christmas is about miracles, and this story was truly a miracle to read during the Holidays. I highly recommend A Shenandoah Family Christmas any time of the year.

The Wedding Chapel

ABOUT THIS BOOK

For sixty years, a wedding chapel sat silent, waiting for love. But times have changed and the hour has come when it just might be too late.

Retired hall-of-fame football coach Jimmy “Coach” Westbrook never imagined anything would come of his labor of love—the wedding chapel he built for Collette Greer, the woman he fell for back in ‘49. But now an offer has come to turn the chapel into what it was meant to be—a place for love—and Jimmy sees no reason to hang onto his dream any longer.

Photographer Taylor Branson is trying to make a life for herself in New York. Leaving her hometown of Heart’s Bend, Tennessee, she put a lot of things behind her, including her family’s abysmal marriage rate. But love surprises her when she falls head-over-heels for Jack Forester, a top ad man. Their whirlwind romance results in an elopement, and a mountain of doubt. Jack, while genuine in his love for Taylor, can never seem to overcome his own demons to find the words of his heart.

When Taylor takes an assignment in Heart’s Bend, the job does more than send her back to her hometown, but into a world of family secrets buried beneath the sands of time.

When Taylor’s journey intersects with Coach’s, they rediscover the heartbeat of their dreams and that the love they long to hold is right in front of them. And worth every waiting moment.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The Wedding Chapel was a little difficult for me to get into at first, I think it was because the main story is flashbacks about a life that didn’t happen. But as I kept reading, I found this to be an enjoyable book. I really liked the characters, and it was really sad at times because of the nature of the story. The Wedding Chapel built for this special bride sounds like a beautiful place, built in the quiet hills of Tennessee. I enjoyed Jimmy and Collette’s story, and I was sure wanting the two to find each other again and use this chapel.

There were a lot of twists and turns to the story that kept in flowing and interesting! I enjoy second chance stories, and this was one that will stay with me for a while. Though this story shows a lot of forgiveness and redemption, I would have liked for it to shown more of the Christian life in the characters lives. The forgiveness and redemption in the lives of the characters shows the forgiveness and redemption of Jesus, and I missed that in this story. Over all, it is a very well written story, that I enjoyed reading. You will fall in love with Jimmy and Collette, just as I did, and will be cheering them on as  they work through their difficulties.

Veronica Fisher knows how lucky she is to be marrying her best friend. Seth Lapp is kind, hardworking, and handsome—but most importantly, he loves Veronica.

When an accident on the job steals Seth away from her, a heartbroken Veronica is certain she will never love—or be loved—again. Yet when she discovers a batch of forgotten recipes and opens a bake stand to sell her Mammi’s raspberry pies, Veronica picks up a regular customer who gives her heart pause.

Jason Huyard was with Seth when he lost his life—a memory that haunts him still. So when he seeks out the grieving fiancée to convey his condolences, the last thing he expects—or wants—is to fall in love. Nonetheless, Jason soon finds himself visiting Veronica’s bake stand every week . . . and it’s for more than the raspberry pies.

Now, as Veronica’s heart thaws, Jason can’t bring himself to tell her he was there when Seth died. Can he ever reveal where he was on the day her life derailed? Or will his secret rob them of the second chance at love they both want?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Veronica’s heart was broken when Seth was killed in an accident, and surely she could never find love again. But when Jason Huyard shows up at her roadside stand to buy pies for his mom, the attraction between them was very noticeable. But when she finds out Jason withheld the truth from her, she just couldn’t find it in herself to forgive him.

This is another amazing read by one of my favorite authors! You just can’t help but fall in love with Veronica and Jason and their families. And even though the most difficult times in Veronica’s life, it is clear that God is still working, even when it seems He is silent. Don’t miss this awesome read from Amy Clipston. It is sure to entertain you for many hours. I received this book from BookLook BLoggers to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
