“Filled with twists and turns, Winter Frost reads perfectly well as a stand-alone, although it is part of a series. The author creates tension and suspense throughout by keeping the reader guessing; she keeps readers engaged with well fleshed out characters and a dash of humor. Sterling, the retired German Shepherd police dog turned card shark, is a new favorite. As the story flows, the truth unfolds, layer by layer, leading to a satisfying conclusion.“Winter Frost was an entertaining, at times humorous read with suspense, some surprises, and even cute animals in the mix.” Review of Winter Frost by The iRead Review

It all started with a chance encounter in the city with Blair, his late wife.

Chris Matheson and the Geezer Squad, working under the guise of a book club, dig into the events surrounding his late wife’s supposed death halfway around the globe. A woman is targeted by an international assassin three years after being declared dead in a terrorist attack overseas.

Nothing is as it seems.

In his most personal cold case, Chris fights to uncover why the state department told him that Blair, the mother of his children, had been killed when she was alive. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Winter Frost starts of with Chris Matheson finding the shock of his life, running into the wife he thought he lost three years ago. What? Are you kidding? I’m afraid not. She is alive and about to be murdered, had Chris not taken out the man with the gun. And after this beginning, I couldn’t put this book down. Lauren Carr does it again, gives her readers another cozy mystery series with a different lead character I have already grown to love. And now I feel bad for him because, well, when you have a run-in with the wife you buried 3 years ago, all kinds of things happen.

With Chris now a murderer for shooting the guy about to take out his wife, this investigation is too much for anyone except the great and wonderful Geezer Squad book club, which is not really a book club. The Geezer Squad dives head over hills into the case, with the help of their retired canines by their side. Lauren Carr is on top of it with creating characters who are so realistic, it really feels like talking to old friends. Add to that, Ms. Carr had to do some extensive research to write the debth of the characters, the amount of training each have, and just everything about this Geezer Squad. And twists and turns, well don’t think you have the mystery solved because Carr will throw a nail in there that will keep you guessing. Of course I had to go back and re-read parts that were so good that I wanted to grab all of the good stuff.

And the furry friends, including the rabbit, Thor, are top notch. I keep looking around for Sterling, my favorite funny guy and the others, only to find my one inside cat and four outside cats. I love how Lauren writes animals into her stories. Just one more thing that makes it all so real and natural.

I can say so much about this book, but the more I saw the more I will give away, and I don’t like that. I will say, if you enjoy a good clean cozy mystery that will have you biting your nails one minute and laughing you heart out the next, you just have to try Winter Frost. And if you like this one, there are three more in the series to read right now, and more coming. If you have not read a Lauren Carr book, now is your chance.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

If you have read any of Lauren Carr’s books, you already know you are in for some of the greatest mysteries written. I am so excited about The Chris Matheson series because I believe Chris Matheson will have more instore for us than we could ever dream! Being the first book in a new series, it is pretty slow going through a little bit of it, but it is necessary because Carr is introducing us to all of her wonderful new characters. And it is very helpful that in the front of the book, Lauren has added a list of all of the characters, in the order they appear in the book. I am finding this list very helpful. But never fear, the introductions didn’t last long and the story begins.

This story centers around Chris Matheson, who  leaves town around 24 years ago to work with the FBI. Being back home all thesr years later, he finds the people are still suspicious of him being the murderer of a woman and her baby 24 years ago. Some people think Chris’s dad did something, like maybe withholding evidence to keep Chris out of jail. Chris wants nothing else now but to prove his innocence once and for all in this Cold This story centers around Chris Matheson, who  leaves town around 24 years before working with the FBI. Being back home, he finds the people are still suspicious of him being the murderer of a woman and her baby 24 years ago. Chris wants nothing else but to prove his innocence once and for all in this Cold Case Murder that happened so many years ago. But it won’t be easy. Murder that happened so many years ago. But it won’t be easy.

I love these new characters, with a tease of some from the prior series. I can’t wait to watch them grow in their new). And I fell in love with The Geezer Squad. This group of fun and meaningful guys are going to grip our hearts and show us detective work we didn’t see coming. The group is made up of retired trained investigators as well as a trained K-9 German Shepherd. These unpredictable and quirky characters have set the stage for what’s to come in this new series from Author Lauren Carr. Hold on to your seats and come along for what lies ahead in this nail biting, edge of your seats books in this new series from Lauren Carr.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Today, Copper Waters is the Fourth book in the Annalisse Series. Will there be more? I sure hope so. Each book gets better and I think this is my new favorite, though I say this about then all! We are back on a different journey with Annalisse and Alec this time. New Zealand is the place now, and there is more mystery and suspense as the two are more at odds with the hidden secrets and the amazing twists and turns that take place, some a bit hard to swallow.

Again, as much as I tried, I couldn’t figure it all out, and the ending was quite the shock. Marlene Bell’s does another fantastic job writing this book, with her unique writing style keeping her readers biting their nails and on the edge of seats. If you love books full of thrills, suspense with a bit of mystery to it, this is your book. And really your series. I highly recommend these four books by Marlene M. Bell. And please check my blog for the past three days to find reviews of the first three reviews. I’m giving Copper Waters Five Stars, and it is so worth every one of them!!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Scattered Legacy is the third book in Marlene Bell’s Annalisse series, and boy is it awesome. Each book I read gets better. I was excited to get into this book and the journey to Italy with Annalisse and Alec. It seems everywhere the two of them ends up, so does a dead body. This story is more about Alec and his family, since they are mostly on Italy. I think the multiple story lines in this book and the twists and turns give this one a stronger plot. This was a fun story, and I enjoyed the detailed scenes so much, I felt as though I was in some of them. I’m glad to get a glimpse of that part of Italy and it’s likes and differences from our land.

Marlene M. Bell again gives her readers an amazing fast paced mystery/thriller with just enough suspense to keep the story pushing toward the finish line. I am so glad I was able to read this series in orrder, one after the other. I think readers can relate to the characters quicker when you already know some of them. Each of these books can survive as a stand alone, there is enough background in each book to bring you up to where you will need to be. So if you cant read them all back to back, thats ok. For me, i had thr time, and I just like reading series in order when I can. I think Scattered Legacy is very well worth the Five Stars I am giving it. If you enjoy suspense thrillers with a bit of mystery running through, this is the book for you, and really the series for you. Go check it out at your favorite book retailer.
**just a tip. I have reviewed the first two books in this series on Monday February 20, 2023 and February 21, 2023 on my blog, and I encourage you to check on those reviews as well. And I thank you!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Spent Identity is book 2 in the Annalisse Series by Marlene M. Bell. Annalisse is at it again as she makes a trip from the big city to the farm, where things are cozier, and she liked spending time with her aunt. But this time around, Annalisse is shocked that a dead body turns up in her aunts barn. Who could it be and who is responsible for the murder of this person. Annalisse was also shocked to find that her aunt’s son is selling the farm. But how can that be? What is the story behind selling the farm and who is this person in their barn.

Join the journey as Annalisse, again finds herself wrapped up in another murder case, and trying to find out how to keep her aunts farm. But then when her aunt went missing, this was the main case for Annalisse. What on earth was happening? As each issue hit Kate head on, I think her attitude and the way she dealt with each of these things was admirable, and I so much enjoyed tagging along with she and to find out the guilty one.

I couldn’t put this fast pace Murder mystery/suspense/thriller down once I started reading it. The plot is so intense, and with the twists and turns throughout the book it’s difficult to figure out who is responsible for everything going on, so I had to read on to see who the bad person was. I’m giving Spent Identy Four Stars. If you enjoy sudpense/thrillers and a little mystery added in, you don’t want to miss this one! I’m giving Spent Identity Five Stars! Such a.good read

Read an excerpt from Chapter 2 of Cowboys and Chaos:

“Hey,” said Forrest. “Who’s that guy in the backyard?”

Everyone shuffled over to the window. A man was roaming around the property with what appeared to be a metal detector in his hands.

He removed his brown fedora, and his wild brown hair joined his golden scarf to blow wildly in the wind. He methodically ran the device back and forth over the lawn. Every few minutes he would stop and kneel on the grass, leaving wet spots on the knees of his khaki cargo pants. He’d put his ear to the ground, then pop up with a gleeful look on his face and continue scanning the lawn. He reached into one of the pockets of his brown safari jacket and pulled out a pair of binoculars. He aimed them around the yard and then up into the sky.

I opened the back door and stepped outside.

“Hello? Excuse me?” I called. “Can I help you?”

The man walked briskly over to us. He thrust out his hand toward me. “Dr. Atticus Papadopoulos. A pleasure.”

“Paige Erickson. Nice to meet you.” Even in shock, my manners prevailed.

The group had followed me outside and were standing in a circle gawking at him. The man put down his device and efficiently went from person to person. He reached out and shook each person’s hand. He looked each one in the eye and listened intently to their name as if he were memorizing it. He even reached down and shook Frank’s paw.

Frank looked him up and down and examined his archaeological professor-like outfit. “Hello Dr. Jones. Welcome to the Snapdragon Inn.”

“Ah! Wonderful, wonderful. The cat speaks! Marvelous!” He clapped his hands. “Actually, it’s Dr. Papadopoulos, but you can call me Atticus,” he said, totally missing Frank’s reference to Dr. Indiana Jones from Raiders of the Lost Ark. “Your ability to communicate is one more sign that the crossover exists at this point! Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!”

When he completed the circle, he verified my suspicion that he’d been memorizing our names by pointing at each person in turn. “Paige. Glo. Zell, Sebastian, Vee, Moonbeam, Forrest. And of course, the fascinating, remarkable Frank.”

The cat stood taller, and I could just about see his head growing in size. Exactly what we needed, a person to boost Frank’s already bursting ego.

“Sooo, Atticus. What are you doing here?” Glo asked as she came to stand beside me, hands on her hips, looking the stranger in the eye.

“Yeah,” said Zell, charging to the front of the group and standing nearly toe to toe with him. She looked up into his face, her eyes narrowed in suspicion. With her diminutive size and cotton ball-like hair she looked anything but intimidating. “And what’s with the metal detector? Looking for buried treasure?”

“Ah, good question, Zell. This is not a meager metal detector. It alerts me to points of extraterrestrial energy.”

“Are you a kook, then?”

Atticus threw back his head and laughed, his wild hair flopping back and forth with the movement. “No, madam, not a kook. I am a doctor of astrobiology; my major area of interest is extraterrestrial technology and travel.”

“What the heck is astrobiology?” Zell squinted her eyes at him.

“A woman with a curious mind. I like it.” He nodded in approval.

I glanced at Glo and rolled my eyes. Great. Now another ego being stroked. Zell and Frank were already impossible to live with, this would boost their annoy-ability level.

“Astrobiology is the academic field that studies the origins of life on our Earth and the existence of life elsewhere in our universe. The study of extraterrestrial visits is my main area of interest. Your inn happens to be at a key crossover point for a confluence of energy.” He put his hands in his pockets and leaned back on his heels looking pleased with his discovery.

Zell had an abnormally studious look on her face. “What do you mean by a confluence of energy, Doctor?”

Glo and I chuckled, since Zell’s normal response to him would have been, “Huh? Whatcha talking about?”

“Excellent question, again.” He pointed at Zell with a snappy movement. “Energy encircles our planet both horizontally and vertically.” His arms flailed about as he demonstrated the circles, then he crossed his arms, one atop the other. “At certain points the lines join and there is a high level of intra-space energy. These locations are an ideal landing spot for extraterrestrials, or for the creation of a time/space portal. This inn sits directly atop a high energy confluence crossover point.”

“Well, that’s not a surprise,” said Zell. “We do have an enchanted library with magical books that take us inside them for adventures.”

“Zell!” We all yelled as one.

“Yes! I knew it!” Atticus pumped his arm. “I want in. Can you take me on one of your adventures?”

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Stolen Obsession is the first book in the Annalisse Series by Marlene M. Bell, and I think it is a nice introduction into the series. This story focuses on an old artifact, a 500 year old bracelet that’s already responsible for the death of two people. Can Annalisse find this piece of jewelry before anyone else gets hurt?

This is my first book by Marlene M. Bell, and I enjoyed this one very much and can’t wait to read and review book two. I like Bell’s writing style, the fact that she makes you feel right there in her stories is a plus for me. I really enjoy stories more when the author has this ability.

Annalisse and Alec were quite the two to follow, taking readers to places we love, and with them, the plot is so intense it was difficult to put the book down. The author’s writing style is enjoyable and I thought pretty easy to read. The entire story is full of fast paced thrills and mystery, and is a pretty quick read. I did find myself going back to re-read some parts, to make sure I didn’t miss anything. If you enjoy a good suspense thriller/mystery, you will enjoy this one, so i encourage you to check it out. I’m giving Stolen Obsession Four Stars.

Family Gatherings at Promise Lodge Tour by Charlotte Hubbard

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Charlotte Hubbard will be awarding a $15 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

In the year since he lost his wife in a tragic accident, Lester Lehman has found healing and purpose—helping construct Dale Kraybill’s new bulk store, enjoying the Kuhn sisters’ hearty meals, and settling in a tiny, built-for-one lakeside house. Falling in love again is surely not on Lester’s mind. Yet despite his firm “no,” two available ladies have set their kapps on the handsome widower—in a boisterous rivalry that weaves mayhem among Gloria’s wedding festivities.

A welcome escape comes from a fresh-faced newcomer. Marlene Fisher disarms Lester with her witty quips on his romantic predicament, while her sparkling eyes inspire surprising thoughts of a shared future. But the heartbreak that brought Marlene to Promise Lodge runs deep, and the pretty maidel believes she’s not meant to marry. In a season of vows to love and honor, scripture holds the key to building their happiness together: love is kind, and above all patient.  Family Gatherings at Promise Lodge

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I am so thrilled to be reviewing another Promise Lodge read from author Charlotte Hubbard. This time the Promise Lodge community is excited and looking forward to two family gatherings at the lodge. Both gatherings are weddings and very close together, so there will be lots of fun celebrating at the Lodge. But I’m afraid one member of the community will not be happy with his visitors. Being a widower, Lester lives in a tiny house on the lake, because after all its just him, and he never expects to marry again. But when two ladies from his former community show up vying for his hand in marriage, the entire community suffers from their Rivalry. Newcomer Marlene Fisher enjoys her new apartment at Promise Lodge and plans to stay there the rest of her life. But sometimes plans change.

This story grabs you from the beginning and holds on until long after you finished reading. These Promise Lodge characters have a way of gripping your heart strings and never letting go. I enjoyed this story so much. And don’t think there’s no problems just because it’s Amish. This story certainly has its share of troubles throughout, but it all makes the story more fun. Charlotte Hubbard adds much detail to the story. I learned a lot about the Amish life and the Amish way of handling difficult situations. Another thing I always learn more about in Amish fiction is their food. Rosetta, Mattie and the other ladies keeping the Lodge goingdo a fabulous job. They all have different jobs but let me tell you the cooks can flat out lay out a table spread that will have you drooling all over. Never want for food while you are at the lodge. I found myself wishing more than once that there was a Lodge such as this in our area. What a fabulous place to live out your retirement years!

I could keep going on and on about the Lodge and the happenings there, but you need to read the book for yourself to really feel the fun. Don’t forget to check out Charlotte Hubbard’s Family Gatherings at Promise Lodge, which goes on sale tomorrow February20,2023. And be sure to check out the other Promise Lodge books as well. I know you will want to read them all.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Read an Excerpt

Fully awake now, Lester swung his feet to the dock. When he could get a word in edgewise, he needed to deflate Agnes’s high-flying hopes in a hurry, because in her vivid imagination, she was already standing before the bishop with him, repeating her wedding vows. As he opened his mouth to speak, however, another urgent female voice hailed him.

“Lester! Lester Lehman, it’s me—your Elverta! I read about Gloria’s wedding in the paper, so it seemed like the perfect reason to come and see you!”

Lester moaned. His sense of freedom, peace, and unencumbered living had just hit another serious snag.

As the national newspaper for Plain communities, the Budget was a wonderful way to keep track of far-flung friends and kin, but he suddenly wished that Gloria—and Rosetta Wickey, their community’s original scribe—hadn’t been quite so descriptive in detailing the Lehman family’s relocation. The tiny town of Promise, Missouri was out in the middle of nowhere, yet Agnes and Elverta had apparently followed every line of the newspaper’s weekly reports right to his doorstep.

As Elverta Horst, dressed in deep green, strode toward his dock, her tall, skinny, ramrod-straight body reminded Lester of a string bean. He knew better than to express that opinion, of course, because the woman he’d broken up with to begin courting his Delores had never been known for her sense of humor.

“Wh-who’s this?” Agnes asked him under her breath.

Never one to beat around the bush, Elverta stopped a few yards from the dock. She glanced at Lester before focusing on the flustered woman beside him. “And who might you be?” she demanded with a raised eyebrow.

Lester answered as indirectly as possible, because he knew these women would soon find out every little thing about one another. “Elverta, this is Delores’s best friend, Agnes Plank. She lives down the road from our former home in Sugarcreek,” he explained hastily. “And Agnes, this is Elverta Horst—”

“And I was engaged to Lester before he took up with Delores,” Elverta put in purposefully. “First loves are often the strongest, ain’t so? The flame may flicker through the years, but it never really goes out.”

Give them the book Ramsey,” I said, motioning toward the guard.

on his face and then repeated what Leo had told him to say, “Perdoon Stary.” It sounded— strange hearing it from Ramsey with his American accent.

The guards busted out laughing hysterically. Ramsey turned to Leo. “ What did you make me say? ”

“Old fart,” came a voice in a thick Russian accent.

I turned to see a man that looked like he was in charge step forward. He wore a large rounded bill military cap with a red band and golden emblem around the center. “ Nothing in Russia is private. Now give me the book.”

Book Description:

As a child in the 1950s, Kevin O’Connor knew his house was different than those of his friends. A stately, three-story, nineteenth century Victorian. His bed tucked next to a stage in a former ballroom. His uncle and aunt lived with their three daughters on the floor below. A large electric organ stood stately in a corner of the first-floor mortuary business. Stacked caskets and an embalming room filled the basement.

Nobody had a house like his.

Set from the 1920s to ‘80s, Two Floors Above Grief is full of fascinating details and anecdotes about his upbringing as a funeral home child, brought to vivid life through a compelling collection of letters written by various family members who lived and worked together at the O’Connor Funeral Home in Elgin, Illinois. Blending the twenty-four-hour business of death and its constantly ringing phone with joy experienced through music, radios, pets, backyard basketball games, co-parenting, faith, and celebrations, O’Connor offers a reflective tale affirming the love of family and embracing life.

BOOK EXCERPT

Amish Wilderness Survival Excerpt 6

Near the barn, the training facility he’d worked on always made him proud. A fine example of Amish craftsmanship that went back generations.

Yet today, his admiration was eclipsed by the mounting concern for his

friend. It twisted like knives between Fletcher’s shoulder blades. He’d

worked with the pups long enough to be able to interpret each of their sounds. The calls coming from them now were alerting Fletcher to trouble.

The only question was how bad it was going to be.

Please, Gott, let Ethan be oke.

Fletcher applied enough pressure with his right leg for the gelding to

respond. Jacob headed left to the training facility while all sorts of bad outcomes flew through Fletcher’s mind. Had something happened to Ethan inside the facility and the dogs were doing their best to bring help?

“Whoa, boy.” Fletcher pulled back on the reins once they reached the

building. When the horse had stopped, he hopped down and wrapped the

reins around the fence post for the outdoor running pen.

Fletcher reached the gate and started to open it when something occurred to him. Molly wasn’t barking her head off like the pups.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Standing Strong: The Real Life Story of Overcoming Adversity and Becoming Unstoppable in Life and Business by Tina Brandau is a self help book written to help others who have dealt with the same issues or even similar issues this author has gone through. I appreciate the honesty and vulnerability of Ms. Brandau throughout this book. I think more people will value the lessons learned here knowing the author is telling of her real life issues.

Honestly, I can relate with some of what the author is writing about because I have gone through some of the same things, just not at the level she faced. But with this book, whether you can connect with the author’s exact issues, or different ones of your own, it is possible to stand strong no matter what you are facing.

I always enjoy books such as this one, and I have to say this one is exceptional in the way it clearly explains everything so simple that anyone can read it. And after reading Standing Strong, I feel connected to the author in a special way because I feel I know her heart and can feel her emotions. This is not something I’m just saying to make my review sound good, this is my total feelings right now. Obviously I am going to keep this book to reference back to when I need it. And I thank author Tina Brandau for sharing her story. If you feel you need a self help book that will help you overcome any adversity you go through, Standing Strong is your book.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

When trusting the wrong person can be deadly.

From Romantic Suspense BEST-SELLING and AWARD-WINNING Author • What happens when a former FBI analyst quits her job to become a PI and ends up partnering with the man who left her fourteen years earlier? In Sheila Kell’s riveting novel of secrets, deceit, and romance, two people rush to find a killer while reckoning with their growing attraction.

Cassie McKay was tired of being passed over as a FBI field agent. She quits her job as a FBI analyst, moved back home with her mother, and takes a job as a PI. Only she hadn’t expected her partner to be the one man who’d left her years before.

Jack “JD” Walker had done a lot wrong in his life, but he hadn’t killed the mother of his child as the police believed, nor had he expected the only women he’d ever loved to come to his rescue. The two work diligently to prove JD’s innocence while someone is determined to make JD pay.

Deadly Betrayal is the first book in the Coastal Investigations series. If you enjoy a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat read, you’ll love this installment of Sheila Kell’s new romantic suspense series.

Read an Excerpt

“Well, it’s late. I’m going to get some sleep,” Cassie said.

Sleep? What? He planned to seduce her, and here she was kicking him out before he even had the chance. So, he did the only thing he could. He stood and strode toward his room. “Goodnight, my sweet Cassie.” He left the double doors separating their rooms open.

He listened to her shower, wishing he could jump in there with her and soap her body down. Thoughts whizzed through JD’s head as he clenched his eyes shut: 60.2 average passes per game, 328.2 average passing yards, second in the season, twelve weeks in. 52.9 average—he looked down. His erection still hadn’t subsided.

When she climbed into bed, he couldn’t take it anymore. He walked to the door separating their rooms and asked, “Are you coming to my bed, or am I coming to yours?”

About the Author:

Sheila Kell writes about the romantic men who leave women’s hearts pounding with a happily ever after built on memorable, adrenaline-pumping stories. Or, (since her editor tries to cut down on her long-windedness) simply “Smokin’ Hot Romance & Intrigue.” Her debut novel, His Desire (HIS Series #1), launched as an Amazon #1 romantic suspense bestseller and Top 100 overall, later winning the Readers’ Favorite award for best romantic suspense novel.

As a Southern girl who traveled the world with the United States Air Force, she remembers all the embarrassing moments of her fellow veterans to include in her books and laughs every time she does it. Having left behind her days as a College President, she can usually be found nestled in the Mississippi woods, where she lives with her cats and all the strays that magically find her front door. When she isn’t writing, you can find Sheila with her nose in a good book, dealing with the woodland critters who enjoy her back patio, or wishing she had a genie to do her bidding.

“The Confession Musical”

THE CONFESSION, A MUSICAL

A new musical is coming to theaters exclusively ONE DAY ONLY on Feb 20, 2023,  Please check show times at theaters near you.

#TheConfessionMIN  #confessionmusicalmovie

Based on the multi-million selling book series written by Beverly Lewis and written for the stage by Emmy-Nominated screenwriter Martha Bolton, The Confession tells the story of Amish Family in turmoil when their daughter, Katie Lapp, discovers she was adopted by an Englisher (not Amish) woman. Meanwhile, the woman, Laura Mayfield, heir to a vast fortune and on her death bed, is searching for her lost daughter to bequest her the estate. Standing between her is her gold-digging husband Dylan (played by John Schneider), who is plotting to claim the fortune for himself with the help of a hired imposter pretending to be the long-lost daughter.

The movie stars John Schneider (Dukes of Hazzard, Smallville) and Emmy® -nominated and best-selling comedian/actress Chonda Pierce!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS MUSICAL

When I saw the picture of this musical and read what it was about, I wasn’t so sure about an Amish book being a musical. I have read the book The Confession and watched the first movie several times, so I am very familiar with the story.

I was quick to find out that the movie was so very good. I love the music and the characters throughout. Seeing Chanda Pierce several times before in person, I was familiar with her comedies, so I knew there had to be a lot of humor in the movie, and it sure was. I laughed quite a bit while watching this movie, but there were also sad times because Katie’s real life mother was dying. It is also frustrating, because Laura’s gold-digging husband (played by John Schneider) is trying diligently to claim the fortune for himself. He hires an imposter pretending to be his wife’s long lost daughter. With all of this action, I think the movie is well balanced, the plot is enough to keep the attention of the audience, and the humor will keep you laughing and make for a really fun and enjoyable. Don’t miss this one day event. Grab your tickets now!

Many thanks to Blue Gate Musicals for providing a sample of the product for this review. Opinions are 100% my own.

Blog Post by Beverly Lewis

Shipshewana, Indiana, we soon discovered not only a delightful musical play but also the miracle of a musical.  Blog by Beverly Lewis, New York Times bestseller author of Amish fiction

I was nine-years-old when I wrote my first stories, around the time I learned of my maternal grandmother Ada’s excruciating shunning. Being ousted from her Plain church community and the only people she’d ever known was heartbreaking. Her father warned if she was to remove her prayer covering, and wear a forbidden, gold wedding band, she was never to darken the door of their home again.

As a child, I had no way of comprehending what this shunning meant to Grandmother Ada and to our entire family. Years later, as a young woman—and a budding novelist—I conducted extensive research into Lancaster County’s Amish traditions and secret practices. It was at that time my now-famous lead character, Katie Lapp, was birthed in my heart. You see, Grandma Ada’s great sorrow following her shunning planted the seeds for my Amish series, “The Heritage of Lancaster County,” from which came The Shunning, and its sequels, The Confession and The Reckoning, and subsequently, “The Confession Musical.”

Previously, I had written and published nearly 60 books for young readers, including for pre-teen and teen girls, but I questioned whether the story burning within me, The Shunning, would translate to adult fiction.

Write your heart and cling to the Lord. Those words kept coming back to me, encouraging me onward. And, while in deep prayer, I asked God to guide this family story I felt such urgency to write: the story of my precious grandmother who followed her heart right out of her ultra-strict community to marry a ministerial student instead of the farmer her father had picked out for her.

When I think of all she endured, my heart is tender realizing that I am truly a recipient of Grandmother Ada’s brave move to follow the Lord. And I am certain I would not be writing stories set in Amish farmland otherwise. Ada’s dedication to her Savior, Jesus, and to the ministry altered the entire half of our family tree and set me on a path of writing a new sub-genre category: Amish fiction.

To begin writing my first novel for adults, I gathered the pieces of everything I knew about that terrible time for Ada, and included Katie Lapp’s unique circumstances of adoption and the search for her birth mother. (The compelling theme of adoption was heavily influenced by my own children’s adoptions.)

More than a decade later, when producer Dan Posthuma approached me about a possible Amish musical based on my popular Heritage book series, I was admittedly surprised. It was hard to imagine someone compressing the story lines from three novels spanning more than a year’s time, into a single stage production. But my husband and I committed the project to prayer.

On Opening Night at the Blue Gate Theatre in of Martha Bolton’s script-writing skills, embellished by Wally Nason’s beautiful and well-integrated musical score. “The Confession Musical” was a hit! And we traveled to see it numerous times with our extended family and many avid fans in various venues in both Indiana and Pennsylvania. Katie Lapp’s story set to music was truly captivating.

Fast forward to the present….

Blue Gate Musicals recently created “The Confession Musical Movie,” to debut in theatres for one night only, on February 20, 2023—thanks to the top movie theatre distributor Fathom Events. It is exciting to know that thousands more live theatre fans will have the opportunity to see this entertaining musical inspired by the Beverly Lewis Amish novels. And with Chonda Pierce and John Schneider in their starring roles, viewers will be both wowed and inspired by Katie Lapp’s heartwarming love story, rejection (shunning), redemption and celebration during a story journey like no other…which strangely seems so true-to-life.

Chonda Pierce’s spontaneous antics on stage (her facial expressions!) bring the jovial maid, Rosie, to bursting life. What would this musical play be without the comedic humor Chonda delivers so freely? For comedy lovers, Chonda’s stage presence is pure joy.

John Schneider’s strong portrayal of the deceiving and debonair Dylan Bennet’s character is something to behold. Viewers will love to hate. His lines are delivered so effortlessly, you’re convinced he is Dylan Bennet.

The epic story, the flow of dramatic scenes, and the soaring music, will have you clapping right along with the live audience. “My Heart Has Found A Home” will echo in your mind long after the credits, as will the toe-tapping opening and finale “Something ‘Bout A Life that’s Plain.”

I laughed so hard during the song, “What A Mess,” and brushed tears away at the show-stopper, “Where You Are,” an enthralling, if not heartbreaking trio sung by Katie Lapp, her Amish mamma, Rebecca Lapp, and her birth mother, Laura Mayfield.

For sure and for certain, you must see this movie musical to believe it!

~ By Beverly Lewis, author of The Orchard, released September 2022.

Leena turned to Conroy. “What do you mean?”

“They have been moving all around over there seemingly without any specific destination. They could be looking for a house to occupy. I was doing the same thing after the World Force took my brother. That’s why I hid in your shed, Leena.”

“I see what you mean. There are several of them and we would be outnumbered. They could overtake us without any problem. And we are just getting our headquarters established here at my house.”

Kahn had another theory. “Just a second.  When I looked at them tonight, they were scattering out and then going back into a tight group. Then they repeated it.”

“What does that mean?” Leena asked.

“Perhaps they are scouting or doing some sort of training, or a drill,” Asher suggested.

“A drill? For what?” Kahn asked.

Asher shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know. Maybe they are going to fight someone. Or they are afraid someone will come to attack, and they will need to defend their group.”

“Just as long as they don’t come to our headquarters,” Leena said.

Once again, the room was quiet.

Description

Becoming His Masterpiece: Reflect and Pray Edition is a feast for the eyes and food for the soul. This unique devotional book pairs stunning abstract art with Christian devotionals, providing readers with encouragement and spiritual sustenance along the lifelong discipleship journey.

Author/artist Sharon Collins shares the profound spiritual lessons God is teaching her as a painter and writer. She thinks of her devotionals as conversations with her readers, confiding the joys and blessings as well as failures and struggles along the path to becoming God’s masterpiece.

Sharon writes with energy and refreshing candor. Her vivid paintings reflect the beauty, love, and grace that a relationship with Jesus Christ brings to believers. This Reflect and Pray Edition includes not only new arrangements of the same fifty-two devotional/painting pairings from Sharon’s original devotional book, Becoming His Masterpiece, but also the opportunity for readers to dig deeper into each devotional with thought-provoking questions and space for journaling.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS DEVOTIONAL

This devotional is truly a Masterpiece in every way. The author has used her talent to paint the pictures that are throughout this beautiful book. For each of the fifty two Devotions, there is a beautiful painting, as well as a devotion, all by author Sharon Collins.

I have to say, this is the most unique devotion I’ve seen. I love every single thing about the devotions. One of the best things I see is the many blank pages with lines for notes. Finally I have a devotional with lots and lots of extra blank pages as well.

If you are looking for a new devotional to go through this year, I highly recommend this on by Sharon Collins.

A Note From Sharon

Over the last few years I have learned that when you say yes to God’s call, He is faithful to provide. He provided me with a steady supply of ideas for paintings and devotionals as well as a publisher who was willing to chance on an unknown.  It is because of God’s providence and power that Becoming His Masterpiece was published in November 2020.  In reality, God is the true author and artist, I’m just along for the ride.  To God be the Glory, Sharon

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sharon Collins’s life is proof of the adage, “God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called.” She never envisioned herself as an author or artist. After a career using her brain’s left-side, she retired with plans of enjoying new grandchildren and providing leadership for women’s Bible study at her church. But God had plans for her brain’s right-side. In March 2018, five months after her first painting class, Sharon felt the Lord’s call to create a website where she posts devotionals paired with her paintings. Although totally unequipped for all these tasks, God faithfully provided for her needs. When not painting and writing, Sharon and her husband, Ron, love to travel. Current count is 45+ countries and all seven continents. Sharon also loves to spoil her four grandkids who know that their “Nonni” will give them ice cream for breakfast.
