What was your motivation behind Hall-O-Ween!? Why did you want to write it?

Hall-O-Ween!” was a follow-up to my other books, “Two!” and “Three!”, which were somewhat autobiographical accounts of life with my twin toddler boys. With those, I wanted to make something for my kiddos to read and hold onto, but they also were a way for me to commemorate their milestones (as crazy as those times were). For “Hall-O-Ween!”, I wanted to continue the series, but also weave in some of my memories and fantasies of Halloween as a kid. Halloween was always one of my favorite times growing up. My dad was always helping my brothers to decorate the front yard (in competition with one of the neighbors) and my mom would help us make our costumes. I wanted to bring all of that excitement to life in my book.

“The illustrations are bright, boldly coloured and illustrate everything the words and phrases are discussing. . . . The best bit to the whole story is how charmingly lovely it begins and ends!”

“I enjoyed the story with a few spooky things, some treats, the costumes, everyone celebrating the holiday, and of course the ending was perfect. It reminded me of my Halloweens as a kid. Halloween was always a celebration at our house, much like the child in the story.”

10 Children’s Halloween Books to get you in the Howl-iday spirit!

I LOVE Halloween. From September 1st through November 1st, my house transforms into a sea of orange, dotted with tiny skeletons and black bat decals. Somewhere in one those first crisp mornings, I scour the many bookshelves in our house looking for orange-colored spines with well worn pages. In a reverent stack on the corner of our couch – the reading couch – I put all of the Halloween books I can find. . .

Splashes of Joy – Review

“Your young children will love this adorable book about Halloween by author Tia Perkins. In this book you will find rhymes on each page and then sounds that go with the rhyme.”

Life Is What It’s Called – Author Interview & Review

Life Is What It’s Called – How is your Halloween book different than others on the market?

Tia Perkin – This book uses a lot of onomatopoeia to really take the reader through all of the sights, sounds and smells of Halloween. It’s not so much of a traditional plot line with a beginning, middle and end as it is a day-in-the-life of a little boy as he gets ready for Halloween. It’s about reinforcing traditions and getting kids excited for what’s coming up.

Hall-O-Ween was an instant hit with my kids (ages 1, 3, 5). We’ve read it several times over. . . . This is a great book to add to your Halloween picture book collection!”

“This is a fun Halloween tale about the sounds, smells, and movements of three young trick-or-treaters! Hall-O-Ween! is light and fun read for preschool and elementary school aged kids with light and loose rhymes and colorful, entertaining illustrations.”

10 Must-Do Halloween Traditions

I see myself as somewhat of a Halloween connoisseur. Over the years, I have collected Halloween traditions like my kids collect trick-or-treat candy. Here are my top ten Halloween musts. . .

“The book is filled with fun rhymes and beautiful illustrations. It’s the perfect treat for your little ghoul!”

Wishful Endings – Guest Post

The Art of “Hall-O-Ween!”

When I started writing “Hall-O-Ween!”, it quickly became clear that a book revolving around a holiday where people eat a lot of candy ALSO needed a lot of *eye* candy, too. In my other books, “Two!” and “Three!”, the majority of the illustrations were done straight on the computer. Simple shapes and vibrant colors drove those books, but I wanted a little more for “Hall-O-Ween!”. I really wanted to stretch myself. . .

Teatime and Books – Review

“What a lovely book for any child, parent, or teacher! This is such a delightful read about the wonders of Halloween! . . . Highly recommend!”

J. L. Mbewe – Review

“I enjoyed the story. The illustrations were cute and vibrant. I love the color choices. . . . my kids enjoyed it. Definitely one to read out loud.”

“I am giving Hall-O-Ween! a well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend this delightful little book for children. It is a great way to get the kids into spirit of Halloween.”

Hall-O-Ween is a very cute picture book to read with your kids at this time of the year! As with most picture books, it is the illustrations that tell the story and make the story fun. Hall-O-Ween‘s bold and bright illustrations jump off of the pages. Kids can relate to how excited the little boy is in this book.”

What do you hope readers take with them after they’ve read it?

In addition to enjoying a sweet love stories set in the midst of exciting adventures, I hope that readers will take away a few nuggets of truth that they can apply to their own lives. Evermore specifically talks about the importance of gaining wisdom, and it’s my hope that readers will be inspired to seek more of God’s wisdom in their lives.

“I shall ride the final course.” I grabbed the great helm. “You know I have the better chance at vanquishing Lord Mortimer.”

“No, Adelaide.” Mitchell reached to divest me of the helmet, but I sidestepped him and thrust it on before he could wrest it away.

“I shall pretend I am you, and Lord Mortimer will be none the wiser.” My voice was hollow against the conical metal hood that covered my entire head except for the narrow eye slits and the small pricked breathing holes. I fumbled at the leather chinstrap, determined to tie it into place before Mitchell stopped me.

“Jody Hedlund has done a good job of making her readers care about the characters. . . . The fantasy elements remain consistent with those in the prequel. I look forward to reading the additional books in The Lost Princesses series once they are released.”

“We need this victory more than any other.” I stiffened my shoulders as Mitchell began to thread the belt from my cuirass to the cross-shaped hole at the base of the helm. Though I couldn’t see Mitchell anymore, I sensed his troubled gaze upon me. With the customary Langley brown hair and eyes, he was small of stature for a man, more scholarly and interested in his studies than in tournaments. However, like any good nobleman’s son, he’d been trained to use both his mind and body.

“Jody Hedlund has a gift for writing. No doubt about it. This Lost Princesses series falls right in my sweet spot for reading. I am transported to the world she created with characters I can love and root for without even thinking about it. I love it.”

Colorimetry – Excerpt

“That monster will not have you,” Mitchell had declared viciously after the hunting party. “Though you would be harder to control than a wild coyote, I would sooner marry you myself.”

I’d laughed at Mitchell’s passionate declaration. Only months my elder, he wasn’t my cousin by blood or birth. In fact, we weren’t related in any way. But I saw him as none other than my true kin. We’d been inseparable growing up, and he was my steadfast friend.

Remembrancy – Review

“Once again Hedlund delivers an engaging and well-balanced tale full of adventure, danger, romance, and characters becoming who God intended them to be.”

Jorie Loves A Story – Excerpt

Even now, I held out my gauntlet-gloved fingers and waited until I felt his hand in mine. “We shall prevail, Mitchell,” I assured him. “And if Lord Mortimer ever discovers our duplicity, he will certainly put his thoughts far from me, for he will not be able to abide a wife who has knocked him from his horse.”

I didn’t wait for Mitchell’s response. Instead, I shoved aside the tent flap and proceeded toward the lists. With spurs jangling and armor clanking, I joined the other knights with an air of confidence from years of training.

Evermore is a masterpiece of fiction – this whole series is shaping up to be so. Adventure, romance, bravery, courage, loyalty, godly wisdom, and true love (even from unexpected sources) are all wrapped up in a tale laced with legend and intriguing possibilities. You’ll want to keep reading, unable to put it down, but at the same time you won’t want it to end.”

Bookworm Mama – Excerpt

Mitchell handed me a lance made of solid oak and decorated with red and white to match the Langley heraldry. I braced the long weapon under my arm and against my ribs, tilting it slightly forward to maintain my balance. I pressed my thighs into Roland’s flank, needing to become one with the beast. This tournament was a partnership. I couldn’t succeed without Roland’s cooperation—his measured speed, his balance against the pressure of our opponent, and the ability to sense my needs.

Bookworm Lisa – Review

“I LOVE this series. That’s all there is to it. . . . This story has many elements that I love. There is action, adventure, strong female characters, romance, medieval setting, self-sacrifice… if I don’t stop now it could end up being a very long list.”

All-of-a-kind Mom – Review

“The setting is delightful, the twists and turns, engaging, filled with danger, and yes, even suspense. You never know just what to expect. This story kept me reading, and left me wanting more. I can’t wait to read the last two books in this series!!”

J. L. Mbewe – Excerpt

“God be with you.” Mitchell gave my gloved hand a final squeeze. He spoke with confidence, but I could still distinguish a thin strand of anxiety in his tone. Not only was he worried about his mother the same as I was, but so many responsibilities had fallen on his shoulders, including the weight of the earldom, a weight that had been growing steadily heavier.

As the youngest of three brothers, Mitchell hadn’t expected to carry such burdens. But Norbert had died in youth, and Christopher had run away five years ago. Older than Mitchell and me by two years, Christopher had a courage of both body and spirit I admired greatly. While I’d never been as close to Christopher as I had to Mitchell, I still held him in the highest regard.

Evermore is book one in The Lost Princesses series. Adelaide and Christopher were so wonderful in this novel. Both of these characters had a real heart for doing right and caring for others. . . . This story was captivating from start to finish.”

“. . . the story caught my imagination and wonder with its gripping tale which bespoke of adventure and a promise to keep me enthralled from the first page. . . . An exciting tale the book foretold, a brilliant author the words revealed, and a plot which galloped at a swift pace made this a perfect read in the lazy afternoon.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

Through my eye slits, I focused on my opponent on the other end of the list. Lord Mortimer was a formidable foe. Nigh on thirty, he was strong and experienced. But a greater weakness than his left side was his arrogance. He would expect Mitchell to come at him with his usual quick and powerful thrust. He would pride himself on knowing Mitchell so well.

But if God looked upon me graciously this day, I would deliver a thrust Lord Mortimer wasn’t expecting.

Heidi Reads… – Review

“The author did a great job of giving the reader a sense of her character and personality before the action and adventure swept the story into a faster pace. . . . I easily connected with the characters and felt the danger and excitement as I read. I’m looking forward to the next two books and am *very* appreciative that there won’t be a long wait for them!”

“As with Always, I was delighted to read this! . . . The characters in this series are so real, and combined with the attention to detail that makes it easy to picture each scene . . . impossible to put down!”

Backing Books – Review

“The moment I realized that Adelaide was able to fight on her own, though not perhaps as well as an Elite Guard, I knew that she was going to be an interesting character. . . . For anyone looking to pick up this series, know that it is a sweet, fairy tale like romance.”

Paulette’s Papers – Excerpt

The bugle call rent the air, clear and strong, quieting the crowd. Roland started forward, needing no urging on my part. His pace was perfect, providing adequate speed but smooth enough I could keep my balance.

With the thundering of horse hooves filling the silence, I focused on the part of Lord Mortimer’s armor I intended to hit. I ground my teeth together, tightened my grip, thrust the lance, and then braced for impact.

“I love how all of the books are connected and different pieces of the puzzle! Very clean. Jody Hedlund is such a great author!”

Among the Reads – Review

“I enjoyed the burgeoning romance between Adelaide and Christopher and the way they fought their attraction to one another. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen and was surprised by some of the events. . . . While the story is listed as Historical fiction, I would consider it more of a fantasy. Young adults (and adults) who enjoy fantasy should consider reading this interesting series.”

“Incredible! I loved this teen historical fiction with romance and adventure! I went straight from reading the novella to this first book in the trilogy. . . . I loved this YA Christian Fiction! I plan to read the next two books as soon as they are released!”

Evermore is the first book in the Lost Princesses series by Jody Hedlund. This story was packed with suspense and adventure. There was always something happening. It kept me thoroughly glued to its pages. . . . This book has so much going for it. I highly recommend this one.”

We returned to our respective corners of the list, raised our lances, and then began to ride toward each other once again. I bent closer to Roland, needing his strength, begging him for it. Then I put all thought out of my mind, save one—the target on Lord Mortimer’s chest.

Roland’s gait lengthened. His canter quickened. And the pounding of his iron-shod hooves echoed the thud of my heart. I sensed we were working together. We were a team. And this time I had to hit my mark.

Simply Susan – Review

“Hedlund has excelled once again with her medieval tale. Truly, I think this is her forte. She does a magnificent job with these stories. I love this time period and she is wonderful at it. I loved every minute and now I can’t wait for the next lost princess’s tale!”

Read Write Breathe – Review

Evermore started with an opening that one would expect from A Knight’s Tale . . . Quite humorous as the switch takes place . . . this is a need to read not to be missed novel.”

Hallie Reads – Review

“. . . I loved these stories. Fun, heartfelt, exciting, they embody everything I expect from a medieval story, and each character proves to be strong and capable, in his or her own way, seeking the truth of God through the experiences. I cannot wait to return to the adventure in the next two Lost Princesses stories, and in the meantime, I highly recommend Always and Evermore.”

Teatime and Books – Review

Evermore is one of the best books of the year! I absolutely loved this tale and the whole series! . . . I truly loved this tale, it is just filled with so much adventure, magic, and romance! If you love fairytales and a good romantic trope, than this is the book for you!”

Romancing History – Review

“From the very beginning I was intrigued with Hedlund’s characters, especially the heroine, Adelaide . . . the plot moved quickly with twists and turns that kept me swiping the electronic pages of my Kindle long after I should have gone to bed. . . . As a writer of historical romance, I found this medieval tale packed full of historical details. . . . Readers who enjoy YA fiction or historical romance will enjoy this book.”

Splashes of Joy – Review

“I love a good fairytale, and author Jody Hedlund writes just that in her new medieval series. I love the characters, and how they develop so well into the story. I was pulled into the story from the beginning, and this was a hard one for me to put down, once I started reading. . . . You can’t go wrong with “Evermore”.”

“. . . seriously, you need to read these books! . . . These books weren’t just all about romance though! In “Evermore”, it was about jousting, uncovering secrets buried for over seventeen years, fleeing a tyrant all while trying to gain the love and support of the people!

“Another wow for Jody Hedlund! She delivers yet another exciting medevil tale and doesn’t disappoint!! . . . This story is full of action everytime you turn around and that is what I like in a book.”

“Lots of great action, amazing and intense plot, smooth and clean storyline. I didn’t know it will be this good. There are so much happening in the story that gave me so many feelings about this book. . . . I loved the storyline and the plot, and I can’t wait to read the other two books that will focuses on Princess Maribel and Princess Emmeline.”

Harlie’s Books – Review

“This is such a great book. . . . Ms. Hedlund has written a wonderful story with an evil king, princesses, knights and a world that I wouldn’t mind living in. I can’t wait to meet the other princesses.”

Launch – Note from the Author

Welcome to the book tour of Wayfarer, a medieval epic fantasy tale. Wayfarer combines Christian allegory with bardic storytelling to carry you backward through time into the day when castles flew banners and knights wandered in search of adventure. Ah, but somewhere along the way you’ll take a turning into a land only discovered in dreams. . .

Pause for Tales – Review

“This is a fantasy story set in a medieval like setting with fantastical beasts. It is also a story of political intrigue, war, and hard lessons learned. I was quite fascinated that the prophecy that all were looking to be fulfilled, and the one who fulfilled the prophecy was not believed. . . . I look forward to more of this fantasy line with deep truths and hard lessons played out in a world different than our own.”

Uplifting Reads – Excerpt

An indrawn breath alerted Kai. Unsheathing his sword, he peered into the shadows beneath a weilo tree’s curling tresses.

Nothing stirred.

“Show yourself!” His challenge rang through the vale.

No response.

He stepped closer.

Kai. His name sighed in a sudden wind that ruffled the waters of the weild. Morning mists eddied above the river, but the leafy canopy over his head remained still and silent.

Daughter of Increase – Spotlight
Heidi Reads… – Excerpt

“As you know, King Devlon of Darksea honors us with his presence. He and his son, Prince Raefe, come to us on a special errand.”

The silence stretched so long Aewen wrenched her gaze from the brooch and looked instead at the sapphire of her mother’s eyes.

The hint of a smile curved Inydde’s lips. “King Devlon has asked for your hand in marriage on behalf of his son, Raefe.”

Aewen could not have spoken even if she had summoned the wit. She stared at the hands twined together in her lap. Her knuckles showed white.

Remembrancy – Review

“Voigt left me both satisfied with the ending of Wayfarer but wanting more because of the unanswered questions remaining. And when I read the synopsis of the upcoming release (Sojourner), I have even more.”

Colorimetry – Excerpt

Her smile faltered. “Oh, that you would forget your promise to me.” Her voice changed, took on warmth. “I cherished it, you see.”

“Pray remind me.”

“I should let you suffer longer, but I’ll not. We only agreed to wed one another because our parents wished it and to protect ourselves from other suitors.”

“I remember something, now that you mention the matter.”

Her gray eyes took him in. “I think it, now, not so bad an idea.”

“Have you a suitor you despise?”

She chortled. “I didn’t mean it that way.”

Paper Ink & Lizard – Review

“Once again, the descriptions were beautiful and well-written. The world came alive before my eyes and grew as we explored not only the Kindren world but also the world of the Elder. The conflict between the two races served as an interesting undertone to the overall story, as the characters also fought against Frear, the villain of the previous novel.”

Wishful Endings – Excerpt

Movement caught her eye. At the edge of the torchlight pranced a black horse with wings—a creature of surpassing beauty bearing a Kindren youth with fair hair tinged red in the torchlight from the guardhouse. She took a step toward him but halted, speechless.

“Well met, fair one.” His voice, soft and cool, stirred her.

She stared back at him with wide eyes.

His brows drew together. “Do you speak?”

She dipped her head and found her voice. “You are of the Kindren.”

Bookworm Lisa – Review

“I liked the scope of the story. Janalyn Voigt has thought out and is able to execute the plot of the series. Every little action has a consequence that is meaningful and contributes to events that occur later. . . . The fantasy elements really appealed to me.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

He put a hand over hers. Her words, soft as the hand he held beneath his own, brought him comfort. “Come.” He walked with her then, taking her toward Cobbleford’s gardens, leaving Raeld in Craelin’s care. Kai followed him at a discreet distance, a fact he welcomed. With Kai near, he might better remember his manners in Aewen’s presence.

They were of the same mind it seemed, for they passed the chapel’s cultivated beds to lose themselves in the natural gardens beyond. Here, weilo trees dangled long leaves in the silvered waters of a stream lined with cobblestones. Wild roses unfurled and native plum trees bent under the weight of their harvest. Bees buzzed, and the aroma of sun-warmed fruit scented the air.

Elcon woke on the cold stone floor of the allerstaed to a blast of trumpets, Torindan’s call to arms, followed by the crash of the first volley from the besieger’s catapults. An unholy uproar commenced—the sound of war. He pushed upright, his heart pounding in his chest like a caged bird. His knees shook. With a trembling hand, he pushed the hair from his eyes as he swallowed against the taste of shame. He’d not known the full extent of his cowardice until now.

“Elcon…” His name carried as if borne on a breeze. Indeed a strange current stirred the air. He lifted his head, blinked in sudden light, and gasped.

“Christians will see parallels between the story in WayFarer and stories in the Bible, yet it is done in such a way that those not familiar with the Bible will view it as a good story. I cannot wait for book three in the series which is due out later this year.”

“She paints the story alive through descriptive narrative where you gather glimpses of how this society is rooted into the Medieval setting it thrives inside but with the added bonuses of having the fantastical emerging forward into the narrative as well. . . . She brings you the magic you seek out [of] a wicked good Speculative novel but with a firm grounding in seeking to discuss what is Darkness and what is Light; how do the two battle for dominance and what is the destined path of a soul who is meant to free their people?”

Teatime and Books – Review

“Wow, this series just gets better and better! . . . Voigt’ world-building is just amazing, her writing makes you feel as if you are watching it on the big screen, you truly feel a part of the journey!”

Reading On The Edge – Excerpt

Elcon reached the battlements above the gatehouse, and the stair gave a faint but perceptible vibration.

Craelin looked up from his examination of the water pot nearest the eastern tower. As Elcon watched, the shining surface quivered and stilled.

He lifted a brow. “Miners?”

Craelin gave a brief nod. “We’re sure they mean to collapse the gatehouse towers. We’ve already started a counter shaft.”

“Oh, but the rest of the storyline, the other characters like Kai and Muriel and the brothers Eathnor and Dorann, and the wonderfully constructed world of Faeraven. Those are the things that made WayFarer such an enjoyable read. . . . WayFarer is a solid addition to the Tales Of Faeraven series. I enjoyed this book and I am definitely looking forward to reading Janalyn Voigt’s next book in the series…”

J. L. Mbewe – Excerpt

Dragonsfire worried the sky late into the night, but now its absence troubled Elcon’s scant sleep. He rolled from bed to his feet. He’d borrowed Kai’s guardhouse chamber for the night because of its proximity to Craelin’s and to remain close to the battle. The rampant gryphon carved into the strongwood door to Craelin’s chamber loomed out of the semi-darkness. He heard no sound from within.

The cool metal of Sword Rivenn weighted his hand as he passed beneath guttering torches and climbed the silent stair to the guardhouse tower. At an arrow embrasure near the top, he paused and looked out. Shreds of cloud obscured the pale moon, which picked out the high peaks in outline. The land below lay in darkness. As he watched, blackness blotted out even the moon’s feeble light.

He stepped back, his heart pounding. The sword in his hand came alive with light. A scuffling sounded overhead. He withdrew into shadow, every muscle tensed.

Jessica Belmont – Review

“. . . this novel is related to the first but not really a sequel. Each boom can be read as a standalone. This works well though, because it proves there is more story to be told in this world. . . . Wayfarer is filled with familiar and new characters and creatures. It’s a lovely epic fantasy and I definitely recommend checking it out.”

The world of ragtime is the backdrop for a remarkable story about the price of freedom, the longing for immortality, and the human need to find forgiveness. Seventeen-year-old May Convery, unhappy with her privileged life in turn-of-the-century New York City, dreams of becoming a poet. When she meets the poor but talented Mike Bernard, an aspiring concert pianist, she immediately falls in love. But after their secret liaison is discovered, neither is prepared for the far-reaching consequences that will haunt them for decades. From vaudeville’s greatest stars to the geniuses of early African American musical theater, an unforgettable cast of real-life characters populates this richly fictionalized historical saga.

PLEASE READ THIS EXCITING EXERPT FROM THE BOOK

Giving himself no further opportunity for remorse, he forced his fingers to the keys and broke into the hit song “After the Ball,” easily navigating the simple melody, augmenting it with rich chords and lush arpeggios. Following several rounds of verse and chorus, he seamlessly transitioned to a second popular tune, calling upon every musical device of the masters to transform the rather pedestrian refrain into something closer to grand opera.

He picked up the pace. The music became a locomotive barreling down a straight track, the left hand pounding a steady bass, the right weaving intricate variations on a theme. In a moment of daring, he lifted his backside off the bench, half standing as his fingers scurried up and down the keys, faster than rats in a dark alley. He heard a cry of delight from someone in the crowd, and his excitement spiked. On and on he went, switching songs like he was switching hats, for each one inventing a new sound effect, a new gimmick. While he might dress up a melody any way he wanted, in the end it had to sound familiar enough to touch that special place in the listener’s heart where music works its most powerful magic. And that was precisely what he set about doing. He captured his audience like he was reeling in a giant fish. Slowly, painfully, with every ounce of strength he had. Afraid to stop. Afraid to let go of this brash new persona that it seemed must have always been lurking beneath the surface, beneath the façade of everything he thought he was or wanted to be.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Kayla Bradshaw is not sure how she will find life as she comes back home after being gone so long. And then with everything that has happened to her. But she is determined to restore the old historic Colorado hotel her friend has hired her to do, in order to make a better life for she and her baby to be. But construction help from Jude Stephens will not be easy. But she has no option.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet Romance between Jude and Kayla, though sometimes they were a bit humorous in their dealing with each other. Do they both need to be so stubborn? Author Mindy Obenhaus writes another fun and exciting book for her readers. Her characters were well crafted and developed so well throughout this story. I enjoyed the working on the old hotel, the details were interesting enough and the couple’s interaction made it even more fun and interesting. Jude realizes Kayla is not the person she was when she left, but he wants to find out more about her. Even though Kayla is a pregnant widow, she does not miss her abusive husband. There is a lot information she’s not ready to tell. But can she really trust a man again? This you will have to find out when you read this sweet read from this amazing author.  A read you will not want to miss!

Hills of Nevermore by Janalyn Voigt up

Hills-of-Nevermore-by-Janalyn-Voigt

ABOUT HILLS OF NEVERMORE

Can a young widow hide her secret shame from the Irish preacher bent on helping her survive?

In an Idaho Territory boom town, America Liberty Reed overhears circuit preacher Shane Hayes try to persuade a hotel owner to close his saloon on Sunday. Shane lands face-down in the mud for his trouble, and there’s talk of shooting him. America intervenes and finds herself in an unexpectedly personal conversation with the blue-eyed preacher. Certain she has angered God in the past, she shies away from Shane.

Addie Martin, another widow, invites America to help in her cook tent in Virginia City, the new mining town. Even with Addie’s teenage son helping with America’s baby, life is hard. Shane urges America to depart for a more civilized location. Neither Shane’s persuasions nor road agents, murder, sickness, or vigilante violence can sway America. Loyalty and ambition hold her fast until dire circumstances force her to confront everything she believes about herself, Shane, and God.

Based on actual historical events during a time of unrest in America, Hills of Nevermore explores faith, love, and courage in the wild west.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This story involves two recent widows, America and Addie crossing the country with a wagon train, wanting to open their own business so their can make their own way. But traveling by wagin train is a dangerous journey with Indians on the trail, and stops in towns and villages where men are evil and women are scarce. Author Janalyn Voigt details this journey, weaving in all of the good and the bad, with even a preacher in the mix! The likeable and realistic characters were sure on board as this story unfolds. Lots of things happening in this book, which I love because it makes the book interesting and exciting! And I enjoyed the stop in the Idaho Territory during the gold rush, the detailed scenes were well crafted, it makes me want to be there in that time in history!

This is a well written Christian historical fiction, and if you enjoy a good wagon train story, I highly recommend this one. It is sure to give you plenty hours of entertainment!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

My father instilled a love of literature in me at an early age by reading chapters from “The Wizard of Oz,” “Robinson Crusoe” and other classics. When I grew older, and he stopped reading bedtime stories, I put myself to sleep with tales I “wrote” in my head. My sixth-grade teacher noticed my penchant for writing and encouraged me to become a novelist.

I’m considered a multi-genre author, but I like to think of myself as a storyteller. The same elements appear in all my novels in proportions dictated by their genre: romance, mystery, adventure, history, and whimsy.

Epic Fantasy: “DawnSinger” and “Wayfarer” are the first two novels in the epic fantasy series, “Tales of Faeraven.” The final books in the series, “Sojourner” and “DawnKing,” are under contract with my publisher.

Historical Fiction: “Hills of Nevermore,” first installment in the “Montana Gold,” set during Montana’s gold rush in the days of vigilante justice, will release in 2017.

Romantic Suspense/Mystery: “Deceptive Tide (Islands of Intrigue-San Juans)” will release in October 2016. This title is romantic suspense, but I am also branching into writing mystery novels written in the classic style of Mary Stewart and Victoria Holt.

MY THOUGHTS ON “Always”

Always is a delightful change from what I am use to reading and this YA fairytale is a fun and interesting read. In this novella, author Jody Hedlund gives readers an insight into her new medival series, The Lost Princesses. The wonderful characters are just a taste of what’s to come in the series. As Mercia is in a difficult time, the Queen gives birth to twin daughters, and she begs Lady Felicia to hid them. After agreeing, the Lady and the twin daughters barely escapes in time to save them all, with the help of one if the Kings guards.

Ms. Hedlund out does herself as usually in the sweet young adult story. With the characters and story twists any young adult, or adult will enjoy this short novella. This is a great book and will be a wonderful series for your teenage daughters. I love authors who give their time to write such awesome books for this age group. Be sure and check this Novella, and this series out. Oh and I can’t forget the cover. It is beyond stunning. I always love blue covers and this is one of the most beautiful I’ve seen!

Evermore

By Jody Hedlund

Evermore-ebook-FINAL(1)

(The Lost Princesses #1) Christian YA Historical Paperback & ebook, 222 Pages August 27th 2019 by Northern Lights Press

An ancient key. A secret treasure. And a princess destined to use them both to fight evil and restore peace.

Raised by a noble family, Lady Adelaide has always known she’s an orphan. Little does she realize she’s one of the lost princesses and the true heir to Mercia’s throne…until a visitor arrives at her family estate, reveals her birthright as queen, and thrusts her into a quest for the throne whether she’s ready or not.

Unable to tolerate King Ethelwulf’s cruelty and lawlessness, Christopher Langley left Mercia years earlier, training a group of rebels in neighboring Norland. When he returns home after his mother’s death, he discovers that not only is Adelaide all grown up, but she’s also the rightful queen of Mercia.

When King Ethelwulf discovers Adelaide’s location, he’ll stop at nothing to capture her and the key she holds to the ancient treasure. Christopher is just as determined to protect Adelaide so she can lead the growing rebellion. When feelings ignite between the two old friends, forces threaten to destroy their love and rip them apart forever.

MY THOUGHTS ON “Evermore”

If you have read the novella, “Always”, then you will want to read “Evermore” because it is book one that follows. Lady Adelaide is the true heir to Mercia’s throne and holds to the ancient treasure. King Ethelwulf wants that treasure, but not if Christopher Langley can help it. This sets for a dangerous journey, one you are sure to want to follow!

I love a good fairytale, and author Jody Hedlund writes just that in her new medieval series. I love the characters, and how they develop so well into the story. I was pulled into the story from the beginning, and this was a hard one for me to put down, once I started reading. Theres a lot of good and evil going on here, and I wouldn’t begin to know how to tell it, but that’s why you need to read the book for yourself. Especially if you love a good clean fairytale fantasy. You can’t go wrong with “Evermore”.

I love that Ms. Hedlund writes amazing YA books, just as she does historical fiction. We need both genres to read! And I love this cover! It is so beautiful and eye catching! I would sure pick this book from the shelves to buy!

Thirteen Steps to the Cellar by Teresa Mathews

tourBanner_13Steps_Reviews

My Rating: 5 stars

Thirteen Steps to the Cellar. They were steep; they were narrow—but was a fall down them enough to have caused the twenty-seven deep lacerations to her aunt’s head?

Callie Harris travels from her home in Alabama to her aunt’s former mansion in Maine to unravel the haunting forty-year-old mystery of Dr. Laverne Harris Doss’ brutal death.

Why wasn’t a murder weapon found? Was her uncle justly convicted of the killing? Was his mistress involved? Or was the murderer the bearded stranger rumored to have arrived by train that night?

In the charming town of Richmond, located on the banks of Maine’s historic Kennebec River, Callie uncovers the community’s darkest secrets—a botched police investigation, a betrayed widow’s lie, a dead woman’s blackmail, and a wealthy philanthropist’s shame. The web of intrigue extends far beyond her suspicions and its connection to her personal story pierces Callie to her core.

ThirteenStepstotheCellarbyTeresaMathews500.jpeg

Please read EXCERPT

Three weeks after her father’s funeral, Callie stood in front of the Richmond, Maine house where her aunt had lived, worked, and died. She took one picture after

another, even crossing the street to capture the full view of the magnificent three story home. The stately, red-brick Colonial mansion still looked much like the

pictures from the old newspaper article she’d found in the drawer. Four chimneys rose above the roof, and modillion cornice adorned the overhanging eaves. A white

portico covered the front entrance. Zooming in, she could even see the shiny brass knocker on the red door.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

For a first novel, author Teresa Mathews writes an amazing haunting, suspenseful,  scary and such an entertaining read, but be advised, this one will keep you up at night! I had a hard time putting this book down! As Callie Harris tries to uncover the mystery of her aunts death many years before, her journey was a not so easy one.

I love a good clean suspense, and 13 Steps to the Cellar is just that. And the writing of this first time author is amazing. With the wonderful unique character and their development as the story unfolds kept me totally engrossed in this story. There are so many twists and turns in the awesome murder mystery that it will keep you guessing. Just when you think you have it all figured out, something else comes up and you are back to square one! There are so many things to say about this story, but I’ll not ruin it for you. If you enjoy a good clean murder mystery, suspense, this would be a great one for you to read. I’m looking forward to more from this author.

Wally’s Misadventure by Chrys Wimer

images.jpeg

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Wally had been cooped up all winter and was ready for a great adventure! His chores came first, then after his father reminded him of the rules, Wally was off. The first rule was to never go exploring alone, but when none of Wally’s friends could go, he was determined to go anyway. Look inside to find out what Wally faces on his adventure!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love Raccoons, and Wally is adorable! But Wally isn’t your normal raccoon, he’s young and he is a mischevious little fellow that had a hard time following directions. When Wally decide to go on his little journey, he never expected to run in to so many problems and trying to solve then wasn’t so much fun! But the story is fun, a lot entertainment for your child.

I think this is the cutest picture book, and it teaches young children the same valuable lessons Wally learned. And I love the way the author uses animals to teach the lessons. I’m not to fond of snakes, but most kids love them, and will love the other animals.

The pictures are adorable. And I love the bright flowers, butterflies and cute little dragon flies that pop out of the forest in beautiful colors. I really like the illustrations. They make the story so much more fun. I encourage you to check out this adorable book for your child. And I think older children would ibjoy this as well. You can read it to your smaller children and let the older ones read it for themselves.

 ABOUT THE AUTHOR

44070678_180220679564803_5500094312773320704_n

I enjoyed writing “Wally’s Misadventure”!  Being a first time author has been a great learning experience.  The most important thing I have learned is how to communicate with the illustrators.  I would have an idea of what the illustration should look like, but they often visualized what I said differently.  It was a long process, but they did a wonderful job.

The characters and basic plot of the story came easily.  I don’t really have a reason I chose to write about a racoon, but I think they are funny to watch.  Ivy was the second character that I chose.  She was named after my maternal grandmother who lived to be 105 and loved music.  My grandmother’s favorite song was “One Day at a Time”.

The best part of the process was sharing the details with three classes of 1st and 2nd grade students.  I am a substitute teacher and I saw these students often, so I was able to keep them informed of the process.  They were my greatest cheerleaders!  I was able to read “Wally’s Misadventure” to them the last week of school.  It was a great hit!

Now her pirate-tour business is flagging, and paying the rent requires more than wishful thinking. When she discovers evidence of a shipwreck off the coast of Tybee Island, she knows it could be just the boon she needs to stay afloat. She takes her findings to local museum director Carter Hale for confirmation, but she runs after a disastrous first meeting.

Carter has been searching for the location of the wreck detailed in the worn pages of an 18th-century diary, the discovery of which could open the door to his dream job at a prestigious museum. But convincing  Anne to help him fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle is no easy task. And working with Carter means that Anne will have to do the one thing she swore she’d never do again: trust a man.

Finding a monetary backer and sticking with a search that’s turning up nothing will take all their dedication–and every secret they’ve tried to hide. If they can find the lost ship, they may discover a treasure worth more than all the pirate gold in the world–love.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The first thing you need to know about me is that I write Fiction full of GRACE.  Every plot is different. The characters change. Some of my books are mysteries, others are novellas, and some are romances. But they all are stories of light, hope, and truth. Stories that at least for a moment touch the deepest places in our heart.

Tales that whisper hope. That speak of family and community. That remind us of God and His love.

What do I write? If I had to reduce it to four words, I suppose I’d say I write Fiction full of GRACE.

I hold a BA and MA degree in English, and I am proud to be represented by Mary Sue Seymour, AAR. I have published over one hundred articles in Christian family magazines, and have received over two dozen awards from Romance Writers of America chapter groups.  I am honored to be a member of Romance Writers of America, American Christian Fiction Writers, and Faith Hope and Love.

I live and teach in the Texas hill country with my husband, cats, and a rather large herd of deer. Our four children have flown the nest; however, we are fortunate that they all live close enough to visit.

I have always felt that my faith was at the very center of who and what I am, and I am thrilled beyond words to be able to now write about something that is so near to my heart. At various times I have served as a pianist, teacher, church secretary, and worship team member. While living in the Dallas area, I served as an adjunct professor of English Literature at Dallas Baptist University. When we moved to a small town in Central Texas, I continued teaching for a few years, but I now write full-time and I play the keyboard in our church’s praise band.

My grandfather was born in Albion, Pennsylvania, and I am currently researching whether I might have Amish roots.

Knowing her life can never go back to what it was, she must make decisions that will impact far more than just her future.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

As I read this book, I couldn’t help but wonder how I would feel to find out devastating news that would rip our family to shreds. This is just what happened to Mikayka Gordon. And following her journey to find answers was hurtful yet interesting. The cast of characters were a delightful group and I enjoyed the close knit family. I did feel so bad for Mikayla, my heart was just breaking as she started finding answers to her past life. The author does a very nice job of creating the tension to keep readers interesting, and then weaving the many loose ends and the surprising twists to the story together to create a beautiful ending. This is a beautiful Heartwarming read that I recomend for your enjoyment.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love Catherine West books, and this is another great read from this author. Liz Carlisle moves back to her family home in Nantucket after finding out what her boyfriend was really like. Matthew Stone has moved to Nantucket in his grandparents home that they willed to him. With Matthew is his teenage niece he has custody of because his sister is in jail. Liz soon moves out of the family home because of renovations to make it a Bed and Breakfast, and the only place she could afford was Matthew’s coach house. Liz’s first encounter with Matthew’s niece tells Liz she’s trouble and Liz wants nothing to do with her. But then Liz and Matthew start spending time together. They both need someone to talk to about their dysfunctional life.

I love the way author Catherine West tackles very difficult issues in her books. In “As the Light Fades,” throughout the book characters are dealing with abuse and addiction, in the worse kind of ways. The characters are so well created, I truly felt I was living the story with them. I had trouble with Liz’s character, sometimes her attitude was a little it much, but then I couldn’t relate to the issues she had dealt with either, and I can now see why she acted the way she did. There is a lot going on in this book, several families with lots of characters and many issues throughout all of them. But I love the way Ms. West weaves it all together smoothly, bringing it all to an interesting ending that works for everyone. I highly recommend this clean Contemporary fiction and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Book Summary

Twenty-five years and 1.7 million copies after it first touched children’s lives, Just in Case You Ever Wonder by Max Lucado now includes Eve Tharlet’s breathtaking artwork to remind a whole new generation that they are loved no matter what.

About the Book

This book assures children of God’s love through all their experiences—including during hard times such as being afraid of the dark or being bullied—and gives assurance that the parent was there when they were first born and will be with them even in heaven.

From New York Times bestselling author Max Lucado comes Just in Case You Ever Wonder, the classic children’s book that has made its way into hearts and story times around the world. This award-winning book about the love between a parent and child

  • has sold 1.7 million copies, touching lives for more than 25 years;
  • now includes new, breathtaking art from Eve Tharlet;

  • reminds children of Jesus’ unconditional love.

Whether you have treasured this classic book for years or are reading it for the first time with your little ones, this timeless reminder of the love between a parent and a child—and ultimately, between God the Father and us—will come to hold a special place in your heart and home. Children long to hear they’re special and loved. Just in Case You Ever Wonder assures them that as they grow and change, in both good and bad times, you—and their heavenly Father—will always be on their side . . . just in case they ever wonder.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I bought this wonderful book when it was first published years ago, and it is an honor to be able to review Just In Case You Ever Wonder now in this new updated edition. The same wonderful story is that God made us as we are, He loves us, and we are important to Him. It also teaches how wanted and how important they are to their parents. And what small child isn’t afraid of the dark? I love that author Max Lucado teaches children that God is there for them through difficult times. Whether it be afraid of the dark, that unfriendly person at school, or in any situation, God will always love them in any situation they deal with.

And I love the new illustrations in this updated edition of this precious little book as well. They are so beautiful, and after hearing the story, I love that small children can tell the story just by the illustrations. The book is hardcover with a dust jacket, which I will keep nice and clean, but if the dust jacket does get roughed up, the hardcover is the same beautiful picture. All in all, you can tell I love this book. Parents need books to teach their children about God’s love and what better choice can you have thanWhat small child isn’t afraid of the dark? And what better choice can you have than Just in Case You Ever Wonder by Max Lucdo. I strongly encourage you to check out this amazing little book.

Sweet Melody (Seabrook Romance #1) By Heidi McCahan  #SweetMelTour

Christian Contemporary Romance

Paperback & ebook, 242 Pages August 1st 2019

959d9-sweetmelody_fc

When a struggling bakery owner is rescued by a wannabe songwriter with hidden culinary talents, they discover they can make sweet harmony … if they can only learn to work together.

Rhett Foster longs to change the world with his music, yet he can’t even finish writing one song. Battered by a string of failures and disillusioned, he returns home to Portland, Oregon. While he desperately wants to create a chart-topping hit, his dad mandates a new mission: move to coastal vacation hotspot Seabrook, Washington and expand the family’s successful restaurant chain.

In danger of destroying her late parents’ legacy if she doesn’t diversify her menu, Lindsay Carmichael will try anything to save her bakery. But with a tiny budget and an injured employee who can’t work, she has no choice but to sink the last of her savings into buying a dilapidated food truck and hiring Rhett as a part-time barista. What she doesn’t know is that the handsome songwriter has a secret … one that could destroy her business and her heart.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Sweet Melody describes this book so well. Singer/songwriter Rhett Foster didn’t really want to make coffee for a living but since it was the only part time job he could fine, he had no choice. And Rhett was just the person Lindsay needed. And he was good eye candy to boot.

This was my first book by author Heidi McCahan, and I really enjoyed this story. The blend of characters throughout the story developed very well as they told their story. Of course there are always some unlikable characters, which this story has, but they sure made the story much more interesting. Rhett and Lindsay both had dreams and goals they were striving for, but life was certainly not being pleasant to them. Rhett wanted to make his dad proud at least once, and Lindsay wanted to keep her parents’ honor and dreams alive. I did enjoy the bakery talk and that dreaded food truck was a hoot. But fixing it up shows the love and caring of special friends in Lindsay’s life, though the good feelings didn’t last so long. Thanks to Rhett. Then secrets started coming to the surface, causing a lot of heartbreak. And this is where I’ll stop because it will ruin it for you. I do love the ending, and how the author pulls everything together so smoothly and gives readers the perfect ending to the story.

Chronic Love by Brooke Bartz

Welcome to the Blog + Review Tour for Chronic Love by Brooke Bartz, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Title: Chronic Love: Trusting God While Suffering with A Chronic Illness

Author: Brooke Bartz

Publisher: Ambassador International

Release Date: September 1, 2019

Genre: Christian Living, Health and Wellbeing

Suffering is inescapable in this world.

Jesus told us we would face perilous trials and that even our bodies would feel the effects of the Fall. For women dealing with chronic illness, most books offer quick-fix counseling or devotional verses taken out of context, helpful only for momentary encouragement.

For true and lasting comfort we must dig deeper into God’s Word and the context in which those much-used passages were written.

In Chronic Love, Brooke Bartz reveals a deeply raw and descriptive account of life with a chronic and debilitating illness, and she shares with readers how comfort and strength can be found through the Truth in God’s Word.

Specifically designed for women who daily battle chronic illness, Chronic Love‘s goal is to provide solid Scriptural encouragement for the fight.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Chronic Love is mainly written with those who live daily with chronic illness. I could relate with much of this book and to many of the personal stories here. I’ve been dealing with a severe chronic illness for over 20 years. I’ve read many books or devotionals that are really good, but only really touch the surface. I appreciate that Chronic Love goes much deeper into the life of author Brooke Bartz, teaching readers how to deal with the chronic illness each of us face daily.

It’s so easy with chronic illness, and even when the pain and suffering are but for a short while, to give into the suffering instead of going to the scriptures for help and comfort. I have failed in this many times over the years. I am glad, and I appreciate the time and research Ms. Bartz did to write this book. I have an ebook so I can carry this with me at all times through my Kindle app on my phone. It will be so helpful to me to have the personal stories and all of the many wonderful scripture to refer back to when I am feeling so down. I can keep going on and on about this amazing book, but you get the idea of the meaning behind this book, as well as how helpful it will be to everyone reading it.

A copy of this book was given to me by the author or publisher. I am not required to write a positive review. The opinions here in this review are totally mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Brooke Bartz is a stay-at-home wife and mom who lives daily with a chronic disease, knowing firsthand the daunting, gnawing physical and spiritual pain it causes. Yet disease was not always her close companion; in the years before her diagnosis, she grew up playing sports and earned a full scholarship to play volleyball at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor. Not yet a Christian, she transferred colleges and attended an event for an on-campus ministry; as the Lord had planned, she heard the Gospel and He saved her. Soon after and while still in college, she married her childhood crush and began a volleyball coaching career.

Living with rheumatoid arthritis and gastroparesis, Brooke desires for women to know the truth about the God who loves them and is with them each day as they face disease and disability; she shares the Truth of the Bible as their ultimate healing. Brooke’s passion is spurring on the women God leads to her sphere of influence, inspiring their hearts to keep their strength and hope at the foot of the cross, to trust in the Great Shepherd to one day heal them completely in glory, even though for now they are suffering on earth.
