My Rating: 5+ Stars

In this powerful retelling of the Book of Esther, blonde, blue-eyed Jewess Hadassah Benjamin feels abandoned by God when she is saved from a firing squad only to be pressed into service by SS-Kommandant Colonel Aric von Schmidt at the WWII transit camp of Theresienstadt in Czechoslovakia. In order to maintain her false identity as his secretary, Stella Muller, she must stand by and watch as her own people are sent to Auschwitz. Suspecting her employer is a man of hidden sympathies, Stella cautiously appeals to him on behalf of those in the camp while she secretly takes her own risks to save them. As Aric’s compassion gives her hope, she fights a growing attraction to a man she should despise as an enemy. When her bravery finally brings her to the point of ultimate sacrifice, she has only her faith to lean upon. Perhaps God placed her there for such a time as this. Yet how can she save her people when she cannot save herself?   ENDORSEMENTS AND REVIEWS

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

For Such A Time is a  very good read, but sometimes it was difficult to read because of the situations that were happening. I’ve read many of the hateful things said about this book in other reviews, but I really enjoyed this book. It is very well written, and it’s clear Ms. Breslin did a lot if research on these topics. Writing about World War II, the Jews and Nazi’s, it was a lot of dark moments in this story. But this author was able to bring many lighter moments to the story as well. These main characters were well thought out and developed well in the story, and the scenes were so vividly described,  I would close my eyes and imagine being there. If you are in for a good WWII read, give this one a try.

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Not By Sight – Shortlisted for the 2016 Inspy Award

With Britain caught up in WWI, Jack Benningham, heir to the Earl of Stonebrooke, has declared himself a conscientious objector. Instead, he secretly works for the Crown by tracking down German spies on British soil, his wild reputation and society status serving as a foolproof cover.

Blinded by patriotism and concern for her brother on the front lines, wealthy suffragette Grace Mabry will do whatever it takes to assist her country’s cause. When she sneaks into a posh London masquerade ball to hand out white feathers of cowardice, she never imagines the chain of events she’ll set off when she hands a feather to Jack.

And neither of them could anticipate the extent of the danger and betrayal that follows them–or the faith they’ll need to maintain hope. READ EXCERPT

In spring of 1918, Lieutenant Colin Mabry, a British soldier working with MI8 after suffering injuries at the front, receives an unexpected message by carrier pigeon: it is an urgent summons from Jewel Reyer, the woman he once loved and who saved his life—a woman he believed to be dead. Leaving Britain’s shores to return into war-torn France, he hopes his reunion with her will ease his guilt and this mission restore the courage he lost on the battlefield.

Colin is stunned when he arrives in Paris to discover the message came not from Jewel, but from a stranger who claims to be her half sister, Johanna. Johanna works at a dovecote for French Army Intelligence; having found Jewel’s diary, she believes her sister is alive and in the custody of a German agent. With spies everywhere, Colin is at first skeptical of Johanna, but as they travel across France and Spain, a tentative trust begins to grow between them.

When their pursuit leads them straight into the midst of a treacherous plot, however, that trust is at stake, as danger and deception turn their search for answers into a battle for their lives. READ EXCERPT

This Healing Journey by Misty Beller

About the Book

This-Healing-Journey-Cover-665x1024

Book: This Healing Journey

Author: Misty M Beller

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release date: July 18, 2019

The mountain wilderness of her family’s home in the Canadian Rockies is all Hannah Grant has ever known. Now at the age of twenty-four, she’s on a journey to help her father to find the son he gave up for adoption three decades before. This is Hannah’s chance to discover the life she’s missed out on so far—and hopefully find a husband along the way. But she certainly doesn’t plan to fall for the first man she meets.

Years in the Calvary provided Nathaniel Peak with more than his share of violence and adventure. That life behind him, he wants nothing more than to settle down in the beautiful Montana mountains and raise his own stock—in peace. The last thing he expects is the savagely wounded child who shows up in his barn. Nor the woman he comes to rely on for the girl’s care.

Hannah can’t help but fall in love with the brave Indian child who so desperately needs her, but no matter what, she can’t let herself fall for the man whose past choices go against everything she believes in. As the situation grows worse, Hannah and Nathaniel are forced to make a heart-rending decision to save the girl’s life. Little do they imagine, the choice they make could spell disaster for them all.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

What a beautiful ending to this series! I am truly going to miss the anticipation of another book in the Heart of the Mountain series. This book is Nathanial and Hannah’s story. And just as the other books in the series, author Misty Beller does an amazing job of creating a cast of characters and placing them in the perfect setting as you follow them on this horrific journey through the wilderness of the Canidian Rockies.

I love Nathanial and Hannah. And the tenderness in taking care of this precious child. But Hannah tries to guard her emotions because she can’t fall in love with someone like Nathanial. Check out this amazing read for many hours of enjoyment. I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I did. And don’t forget to check out all of the other books in this series. You don’t want to miss reading then all.

A copy of this book was given to me by the author or publisher. I am not required to write a positive review. The opinions here in this review are totally mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

About the Author

Misty-768x694.jpg

Misty M. Beller writes romantic mountain stories, set on the 1800s frontier and woven with the truth of God’s love.

She was raised on a farm in South Carolina, so her Southern roots run deep. Growing up, her family was close, and they continue to keep that priority today. Her husband and children now add another dimension to her life, keeping her both grounded and crazy.

More from Misty

Occasionally I hear readers debate about whether they prefer to read a series of books from an author, or only standalone novels. Personally, I love series—both reading and writing them. There’s something about seeing characters I know and love from past books that makes me warm and happy inside. Can you relate?

One of the first series I wrote, the Mountain Dreams Series, included five books that told the stories of several families intertwined through marriage and God’s connections. Those characters are still so dear to my heart! When book 5 ended, I had so many readers ask for more in the series, I began dreaming of a spin-off series with a very special connection to the hero in book 5. Enter: the Heart of the Mountains Series.

I’ve LOVED every story in this 7-book collection, taking each journey with the characters as I laughed and cried and uncovered their secrets. For the final 7th book, I’m thrilled to announce that I’m reuniting many of the characters from BOTH series! Simeon Grant (from Heart of the Mountains, book 1) goes on a journey to find the son he gave up for adoption as an infant (the hero in Mountain Dreams, book 5).

This Healing Journey has its own leading lady, Hannah Grant (the baby born at the end of This Treacherous Journey, all grown up and as tough as any lady raised in the Canadian mountain wilderness). And a new character, Nathaniel Peak, who stars as the hero (and who I fell in love with IMMEDIATELY!).

Even if you’ve never read any of my stories, I think you’ll enjoy this one. Especially if you love adventurous mountain stories as much as I do!

The Number of Love by Roseanna M. White

The-number-of-love-FB-banner-1

About the Book

The-Number-of-Love-665x1024

The Toughest Puzzle She’ll Have to Solve

Might be the Wishes of Her Own Heart

Three years into the Great War, England’s greatest asset is their intelligence network—field agents risking their lives to gather information, and codebreakers able to crack every German telegram. Margot De Wilde thrives in the environment of the secretive Room 40, where she spends her days deciphering intercepted messages. But when her world is turned upside down by an unexpected loss, she discovers for the first time in her life that numbers aren’t enough.

Drake Elton returns wounded from the field, followed by an enemy who just won’t give up. He’s smitten quickly by the intelligent Margot, but soon the dangers of the war draw ever closer. Margot and Drake will have to work together to save themselves from the very secrets that brought them together.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

It took me a few chapters to get into this book, but then I couldn’t put it down because I wanted to find out what happened with the characters.
Author Roseanna White creates and develops characters that in some ways are realistic in today’s world, but definitely to the world as it was in the 1800’s. This is the first book I’ve ever read about numbers, as they were explained in this story. And I was very fascinated throughout the entire story. I really had never heard of Room 40 and the codebreakers. This is sure worth the read.

I love Margot, she is so interesting and full of talent and knowledge when it comes to numbers. But forget about love, she doesn’t have time for anyone. That is until Drake came along. And this is a story left for you to know when you read tdd his book. I sure hope I have given you enough info to want to run out and buy this book for yourself. You will definitely love and enjoy this book.

More from Roseanna

When I told my best friend and critique partner what book I was pitching next to my publisher, her response was something along the lines of, “That sounds awesome. Also, you’re crazy, and I do not envy you writing that one.”

I laughed…and knew exactly what she meant. Because I was setting out to write a heroine who was a mathematician—which I am definitely not. A heroine who was utterly indifferent to love and marriage—which makes for a difficult story when one writes romance. A character who had an unshakeable faith—which has to be shaken at least a bit in order to make for growth throughout the story. And more, a character who has “issues,” let’s call it, that those familiar with such things will recognize…and which those who aren’t will probably think are quirks.

I was setting out to write a story that would be challenging for me, every step of the way. And the result is a book I’m incredibly in love with and so happy to share with the world.

The Number of Love is all about Margot, who thinks and even prays in numbers. Born and raised in Belgium, she and her family fled to England in 1914 when the Germans invaded her homeland. Thanks to her remarkable abilities with numbers and patterns, she’s now employed at Room 40, the Admiralty’s secret codebreaking branch. But as I was contemplating what sort of man could ever win Margot’s heart, I knew he had to be very different… someone active where she’s still. Someone outgoing where she turns inward. Someone who sees in her what she never can, and who believes she can grasp the dreams that society tells her are unbefitting a woman. This is how Drake was born—a field agent employed by Room 40.

I can honestly say this is the only book I’ve ever written that required me to borrow my daughter’s algebra book while I was writing it, LOL. And though every single scene was a challenge, it was one I thoroughly enjoyed. I hope you’ll join me on the journey that Margot and Drake are on, which answer the question my husband cheekily asked more than once as I was writing it: what is the number of love?

Book: More Than Words Can Say

Author: Karen Witemeyer

Genre: Historical Romance

Release Date: May 7, 2019

After fulfilling a pledge to a dying friend, Zacharias Hamilton is finally free to live life on his own terms. No opportunities to disappoint those he cares about, just the quiet bachelor existence he’s always craved. Until fate snatches his freedom away once again when the baker of his favorite breakfast treat is railroaded by the city council. As hard as he tries to avoid getting involved, he can’t turn a blind eye to her predicament . . . or her adorable dimples. Abigail Kemp needs a man’s name on her bakery’s deed. A marriage of convenience seems the best solution . . . if it involves a man she can control. Not the stoic lumberman who oozes confidence without saying a word whenever he enters her shop. Control Zacharias Hamilton? She can’t even control her pulse when she’s around him. Once vows are spoken, Abigail’s troubles should be over. Yet threats to the bakery worsen, and darker dangers hound her sister. As trust grows between Zach and Abby, she finds she wants more than his rescue. She wants his heart.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

From the first book I read by Karen Witemeyer,  she has been one of my all time favorite authors. I love how she snatches my attention from the first page and keeps it until I read the last word! I love the sweet stories with an historical setting and enough romance and humor to give the story a good balance. And for me, More Than Words Can Say is one of the best from Ms. WITEMEYER.

It was easy for me to fall in love with the two main characters, Abigail who is owner of the bakery and Zach, a partner at the sawmill. Zach enjoyed Abby’s sticky buns for breakfast and Zach was secretly attracted to Abby, but since he was finally free to live his life as a bachelor,  no one else knew this bit of news. But it was when Abby was forced to find a husband that things started to spiral out of control.

Such a sweet historical story. The characters created by Ms. Witemeyer are so adorable and loveable, as well as realistic. With things hitting them from every angle, it seemed nothing would turn out right. I like the feistiness of Abby, when she sets her mind to something, she will fight to carry it out. Abby takes readers on a journey with her that will rattle you for a good while. But it’s fun, enjoyable, and satisfying because the person with the right motives win in the end. This is a book for the historical fiction people out there, but I think anyone enjoying a good clean Christian read would love this book! I love that the gospel of Jesus is clearly in this book, but it’s in the every day lives of the characters, not in a preachy way. Author Karen Witemeyer does it best!

A copy of this book was given to me by the author or publisher. I am not required to write a positive review. The opinions here in this review are totally mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Settings – Real or Imagined?

One of the key decisions an author has to make before she begins to write is selecting the setting for her story. And the first choice she faces is the question of whether to use a real or imagined location. Roughly half the stories I have written are set in fictional towns. The use of a fictional setting allows an author greater freedom to manipulate the environment of her characters to fit her plot. This provides a great deal of flexibility. However, there is something special about setting a story in a real place. First, readers who are familiar with that place never fail to get excited about seeing a town they recognize in print. Second, if an author can find historical photos and documents, she can add a wonderful layer of authenticity to her setting that might otherwise be missing. Third, an author may turn up fascinating tidbits when studying the history of her setting that find their way into the story and bring a flavor the author never could have supplied on her own. This was the case as I wrote More Than Words Can Say. All of the stories in my Patchwork Family series have been set in real places. Pecan Gap, Texas for More Than Meets the Eye, Honey Grove, Texas for More Than Words Can Say, and coming this fall we’ll travel to Gainesville, Texas for the concluding novella, More Than a Pretty Face. Researching each location brought its own unique discoveries, but I have to admit that researching the small town of Honey Grove brought this history-loving girl a special level of joy. For example, there is a legend about how the town got its name that I knew needed to be incorporated into my story. Legend has it that when Davy Crockett was on his way to join the fight at the Alamo, he stopped in a grove of trees and set up camp. There were so many bees in that in letters to family and friends, he called the place a “Honey Grove.” He carved his initials into one of the trees and intended to return and settle there after the war. Unfortunately, as we know, Crockett did not survive the Alamo and therefore did not return. One of his friends, Samuel A. Erwin, later found the grove and became the first settler in 1839. Many people recall seeing the initials carved into Crockett’s bee tree even into the early 1900s, which led me to believe that this legend was based in truth. It doesn’t play a pivotal role in my story, but if you watch for it, you’ll find it mentioned. Discovering the Honey Grove Preservation League’s website proved a tremendous boon. Their online historical resources are some of the best I have ever come across. Historical photos, newspaper articles, government records—it was like stepping through a time portal every time I visited. And I visited often. Thanks to the Preservation League, I was able to mention real people and places in my novel. Places like the Commercial Hotel, the home of James Gilmer that was built during my time period, Wilkins, Wood & Patteson Dry Goods, and Dora Galbraith Patteson’s millinery shop on the east side of the town square. While Zacharias Hamilton and Reuben Sinclair are completely fictitious characters, there really was a lumberyard located on the corner of Sixth Street and Rail Road. As fiction authors are wont to do, I did take a few liberties with Honey Grove’s history. To my knowledge, there was never any city ordinance banning women from owning businesses in town, which was a key plot point in More Than Words Can Say. In addition, Mayor Chester Longfellow was a complete invention of my imagination. The true mayor of Honey Grove during this time period was J.H. Smith, a man who served in that capacity from 1888-1897. He must have been a well-loved city official to hold office for nearly a decade. I paid brief homage to him by having him step back into office when my fictitious mayor resigned. I hope you enjoy stepping back in time with me into historic Honey Grove, Texas. Zach and Abigail might not have lived there in truth, but I like to believe their tale is a representation of the many amazing love stories have taken place in that sweet little town through the years.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Sometimes you just want to read a sweet heartwarming Romance, and Hometown Hope is a great romance choice to read. In the small town of Pine Valley, Georgia Anna Delaney is facing selling the bookstore her father started. The Thirteenth Guardian (The Thirteenth Guardian #1) By K.M. Lewis Apocalyptic, Dystopian, Thriller Paperback & ebook, 307 Pages June 11th 2019

DA VINCI’S SECRET PALES. Michelangelo concealed an explosive truth in his famous Creation of Adam fresco in the Sistine Chapel. Eve did not cause the fall of man. She carried a far more devastating secret for millennia—one that will change the world forever.

As the modern-day world suffers the cataclysmic effects of the “Plagues of Egypt,” Avery Fitzgerald, a statuesque Astrophysics major at Stanford, discovers that she is mysteriously bound to five strangers by an extremely rare condition that foremost medical experts cannot explain. Thrust into extraordinary circumstances, they race against time to stay alive as they are pursued by an age-old adversary and the world around them collapses into annihilation. Under sacred oath, The Guardians—a far more archaic and enigmatic secret society than the Freemasons, Templars, and the Priory—protect Avery as she embarks on a daring quest that only legends of old have been on before. Avery must come to terms with the shocking realization that the blood of an ancient queen flows through her veins and that the fate of the world now rests on her shoulders.

The Thirteenth Guardian is Book One of a daring new Trilogy that will shake you to your core.

EXCERPT

After they had eaten to their fill, the group moved to Florianne’s library. As they settled into the comfortable leather furniture, Toni asked, “So where is our gracious host? I have been looking forward to meeting Florianne. Without everything she did, we would all be dead. Without her, all our families would be dead. I am eternally grateful to her for everything she has done for us. I want to let her know how thankful I am.”

Eli stared at the floor then looked back up to his new friends, who sat in a semi-circle, facing him. “I have a lot I need to tell you.”

Eli described his trip to get to Innsbruck and how close he was to never finding Florianne. He told them about the Vespa ride up the mountainside and his companion, Urich. He told them about finally finding Florianne’s estate and spending the last two days, getting the full history of Florianne, her family, the Guardians, and their secret organization.

He described how intense Florianne was: her gaze never wavering from Eli’s eyes, her voice appearing to grow instantly stronger and more deliberate.

“It felt like it was more than just Florianne talking. It felt like, in her voice, hundreds of men and women from across the ages were speaking directly to me. It was the most incredible experience.”

In the soft glow of the generator-powered light bulbs that lit the bunker, as Avery, Remi and Toni looked on, Eli begun to tell the most important story they would ever hear.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Mission of Love by Laura V. Hilton tells the story of an Amish minister who us called outside of his comfort zone, to minister to inner-city youth. And we learn of a woman that feels she has that same calling to help. And you just imagine what the two of them have to endure? But Laura V. Hilton does what she so professionally gives her readers, and that is a lot of twists and turns in a story that will have you asking for more. I love Ms. Hilton’s books! And I have all of them too!
Bid For Love by Rachel J. Good tells of an Amish silent auction gone bad, with Marty and his two friends right in the middle of it. I love all of Rachel Good’s books, and this one didn’t disappoint. With a bit of suspense here, you will love the twists and turns here, taking you on a journey that me a little confused at times, not by the writing, but by the actions of the characters. My prayer is that you will love it as much as I do!

In Plain Redemption by Mary Alford, will spring ever arrive in Montana? Lyddie has had her share of heartaches and difficulties the past year or so and is ready for a change. But it seems that is not going to happen any time soon. Someone wishes bad upon her family and Mary Alford writes a wonderful story surrounding the lives of Lyddie and her family and community, and the journey it takes to find the love, joy and understanding underneath layers of bitter and guilt, along with redemption and forgiveness.

All three of these stories are a wonderful addition to your library. Each has it’s own characters that are skillfully created and a story that fits each so well. This is a book you must have if you love Amish fiction. I give this book 5 stars.

Childhood friends joined by a painful past…Can love blossom between them?

After her father falls ill, Lizzie Miller and her family desperately need help to keep the farm going during harvesttime. Neighbor Paul Burkholder is eager to lend a hand—and to court Lizzie. But Paul has a secret that he fears could push Lizzie away. Can they finally heal from a tragedy in their pasts…and open their hearts to each other?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

It had been 10 years since Lizzie had lost her brother David in a barn accident. But no matter the amount of time has passed, her family still mourned her brother’s death as if it happened yesterday. The accident also left Lizzy with a horrible scar across her face, a scar that kept her home on their Farm so no one would be able to see what she looks like. No one but their neighbor Paul that is. Paul has always been there for her no matter what. Would their spending so much time together cause feelings to happen between the two of them?

This is such a sweet story, despite the hurt and difficult feelings that comes with losing a brother and young child. Paul and Lizzie’s life wasn’t always easy, because each of their families already had their future planned for them, despite what the two of them wanted for themselves. Since Amish dads like to control their families so strongly, this caused a lot of friction and tension between Paul and Lizzie as well as both of their families. I feel the author deals with this and an exceptional way. Author Tracey Lyons has created a beautiful story of love, forgiveness and Redemption, with realistic characters and their development throughout the story. I just love Paul and Lizzy, and Paul’s attitude over the scar on Lizzie’s of face was so very heartwarming and that I just cried.

If you love Amish fiction then this is a story that you will love to read. This is a novella, so you will be able to read it and just a few hours. This is also Ms. Lyons’ debut novel with love inspired, as well as her first Amish story oh, so you are in for a real treat. And to make the story a little sweeter, there is a recipe for the double treat cookies at the end of the book.

Natchez, MS; 1792

Sailing and soldiering around the world has taken Caleb O’Shea far from his native Ireland, so he never imagined that a promise to see a fellow crewman safely home would practically land him on his brother’s doorstep. After spending years away from his family, Caleb isn’t certain what kind of reception he will receive when he steps foot in Natchez, Mississippi. The one thing he knows for sure is that he won’t stay long.

Since her sister was kidnapped by river pirates six months ago, Alanah Adams has taken special care to avoid drawing attention to herself. Those living in the rough-and-tumble settlement of Cypress Creek might even think she’s addled. But when she stumbles into Caleb and his friends in Natchez, she appears to be the picture-perfect lady.

Caleb only catches glimpses of the mysterious and beautiful Alanah before she disappears. But a chance encounter with her at his brother’s logging camp near Cypress Creek leaves him uncomfortable at the thought of the young woman traversing the dangerous area alone. At a crossroads in his life, Caleb must decide whether he wants to give up the worldly adventures he’s been seeking for one closer to home.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This has been such a wonderful series, in fact it’s one of my favorite series that I’ve read. When Caleb O’Shea promises to see a fellow crewman home, he never expected to see any of his brothers. Caleb has not seen his brothers in such a long time. He had no idea how his older  brother Connor would react to him being there. What kind of reunion can we expect in this third book in the Natchez Trace series?

I was on the edge of my seat as I anticipated the reunion of Caleb with his brothers. Having left his younger brothers with no contact whatsoever, it could have gone either way. And you really need to read this book (and not review spoilers) to find the answer! I enjoyed getting to know Caleb, even though he was difficult at times, his help around the land was certainly useful. The Crossing at Cypress Creek has so many twists and turns, it is difficult to see what’s coming next. Life wasn’t easy for anyone, the work was hard, they faced difficult  situations as well as evil people, and sometimes it was difficult reading the things that happened. But still, I had a hard time putting the book down because I had to know what was around the next turn.

Again, author Pam Hillman writes an amazing story! To see the O’Shea brothers come from the difficult life in their native Ireland land, to where they are now has been an amazing experience! Now I plan to read the series again, all together. I highly recommend A Crossing at Cypress Creek for your reading enjoyment. I also highly recommend the first two books in the series, The Promise of Breeze Hill, and The Road to Magnolia Glen. This is a series you want to read, and a journey that will leave you thinking about it long after you finish the last book.

ABOUT THIS AUTHOR

Pam-2.5.16-edited-1024x631

CBA Bestselling author Pam Hillman writes Historical Christian fiction set in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Born east of the Mississippi and a hundred years too late, Pam still boasts of wrangling calves, milking cows and putting up hay, first as a child, and later with her own personal hero, Iran, on their family farm in Mississippi.

A voracious reader as a child, Pam especially enjoyed stories involving the great Westward expansion, and television shows such as Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie, and Gunsmoke. The western writer, Louis L’Amour, kept Pam mesmerized with his tales of cowboys and Indians, mountain men and outlaws, prim schoolteachers, hot dry deserts, and boom towns.

Pam’s life in the country and her love of the old west bring authenticity to her work and depth to her characters, something that has been recognized many times in the industry through writer’s awards.

Her work has placed in dozens of writer’s contests, including being a four-time Romance Writers of America Golden Heart finalist with Claiming Mariah, her second novel, winning the Award for Best Inspirational. Other awards include the Inspirational Readers Choice Award, International Digital Award, and the EPIC eBook Award.
