A Desperate Hope
(Empire State #3)
By Elizabeth Camden
Christian Historical Romance
Paperback & ebook, 352 Pages
February 5th 2019 by Bethany House Publishers

Eloise Drake’s prim demeanor hides the turbulent past she believes is finally behind her. A mathematical genius, she’s now a successful accountant for the largest engineering project in 1908 New York. But to her dismay, her new position puts her back in the path of the man responsible for her deepest heartbreak.

Alex Duval is the mayor of a town about to be wiped off the map. The state plans to flood the entire valley where his town sits in order to build a new reservoir, and Alex is stunned to discover the woman he once loved on the team charged with the demolition. With his world crumbling around him, Alex devises a risky plan to save his town–but he needs Eloise’s help to succeed.

Alex is determined to win back the woman he thought he’d lost forever, but even their combined ingenuity may not be enough to overcome the odds against them.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The setting is New York City 1896. Needing more water supply to the city, it was decided to violins a reservoir, which would wipe out the small town of Dubai Springs. Mayor Alex Duval is determined to fight for the survival of his small town, but being the NY water board accountant, his longtime love Eloise Drake will be the one he’s fighting against. But can she end up helping him out if the bind of losing his town?

Elizabeth Camden has created unique and intriguing characters in Eloise and Alex, and Alex is sure to have his hands full with the feisty Ms. Drake! I found it very heartwarming as I read the determined feelings the people of Duval Springs have of their small town. They were not easily giving up their homes and friendships. And I found the author did a really good job of weaving together the emotions and feelings of everyone involved. And emotions and feeling you are sure to experience as you read this journey if small town Duval Springs.

The one thing wanted to be different was a stronger emphasis on the Christian life in the characters. It is listed as Christian fiction and Bethany house is a Christian publisher, and I felt it was lacking in that area. Other than this, it is a very good read from this author.

Book Description

With the coldest season comes the warmest of second chances.

At age seventy-three, Laura Kauffman knows she is closer to the end of life than the beginning. If God willed it, she would join her beloved late husband soon. Even so, Laura wonders what purpose God might have for her in this winter of her life—and why this season seems so lonely.

Widower Zechariah Stutzman is facing his own barren season, despite the great-grandchildren swirling around him. With his Parkinson’s worsening, he had no choice but to move in with his grandson’s family, though now he feels adrift and useless.

When Laura offers to help with Zechariah’s five great-grandchildren after their mother has a difficult childbirth, Zechariah is unsure how he will adjust to the warm but tart demeanor of this woman he has known since grade school. But soon Laura and Zechariah learn they are asking God the same questions about loss and hope. And they begin to wonder if He is providing answers after all.

With Winter’s First Frost reminds us that God’s purposes always bear fruit—and sometimes love is sweeter with age.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

First of all I love this book cover! It is what Dee me to this book! And I love Kelly Irvin’s books as well! And this was such a special read! Laura and Zechariah are both getting on in years, both feeling as though their work on this earth is finished, but God may have other plans! Laura’s helping in Zechariah’s granddaughter after having her Nablus results in the two elderly people getting together, and they realize they are needed.

This is a beautiful heartwarming story set in the beautiful Amish community in Jamesport, Missouri. Ms. Irvin does a fantastic job of creating characters that we will all love as they weave their way into our hearts throughout this story. They plot flows well, and kept my interest throughout the story. I like that Redemption, love, and faith were woven into the characters lives! This is a story you don’t wasn’t to miss, especially if you are an Amish fan!

Pajama Party: The Story
By E. C. Jackson
YA Christian Contemporary
Paperback & ebook, 213 Pages
August 26th 2017 by E. C. Jackson

Most sleepovers are simple. Food, fun, and pillow fights. But sixteen-year-old Karen Duncan has bigger plans for her slumber party. Family troubles have changed her over the past year, and she’s no longer the petty, selfish girl she used to be. Now she’s ready to shake things up with her friends. The guest list comes as a surprise to some and a slap in the face to others. This popular girl has invited some not-so-popular guests. Even more shocking, she’s left out some of the girls she’s hung out with since middle school.

Diane and Evette are outsiders, nervous about being stuck in a house with the same girls who tease them at school. Kathy, Lisa, and Joann come to the party with the confidence of the in-crowd, but they’re masking inner-turmoil that is bound to surface. Sandy and Angela are usually the voices of reason…usually. And then there’s Linda, the friend that got away. She may not ever forgive the girls who abandoned her years ago. Karen hopes to change her mind.

Her agenda is ambitious, and it could spell disaster. But Karen is convinced God will use this party to spark a new beginning for everyone involved. This companion book to A Living Hope gives us the inspired story Sadie Cummings wrote for the girls of Shiatown.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Karen Duncan decides she’s going to have a pajama party and invite friends that don’t normally hang out together. But was this a disaster about to happen?

Nine girls, one Pajama Party, and one long night, makes for and interesting story. As you can imagine nine girls getting together, there had to be friction! As the girls began to arrive at Karen’s house, they began to bicker and complain about who would be at the party, and who likes who and anything else girls this age can complain about. And it gets pretty nasty at times. But as the night wore on, the girls were able to come together and talk more freely. As they talked about issues they were having with family, boyfriends, school, and other things in their mind, things seemed to calm down, and they learned things about each other they didn’t know. A few of the girls were Christians, the others were not, but by the end of the night their talk about not God and Faith changed some of the girls minds as well.

If you have a teenage girl, this book would be a great read for her. Though it’s a great read for any age, teenage girls will be able to relate to what is going on with this crowd! The book is fun, entertaining, and just what you think it would be with this many girls in one house together! The characters are realistic, I felt as though I was in that house with them! I want to encourage you to check out this book for yourself, as well as any teenage girl you may know.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Ladies of Intrigue is a collection of three stories written by Michelle Griep. I didn’t realize these Novellas were previously published, so I had read a couple of them already! Don’t you just hate when this happens? A new book with stories you have already read! But it was good to refresh my memory of these stories.

It starts on Cornish Coast in 1815 when the First Lady of Intrigue falls in love with s smuggler. Not exactly what she had planned to do. Then on to Dakota Territory in 1862 with the second Intrigung Lady, Emily and Dr. Clark. I’ve always enjoyed a stories set in the Dakota Territory, and I enjoyed this one, especially with the doctoring techniques of this century. And the third Intriguing Lady is found in St. Paul Minnesota and the House of Secrets. This haunted house had the worst most haunting secrets of all!

All three of these stories will sure keep your interest, from the historical fact that we always find in a Michelle Griep story to the haunting mysteries each of these stories hold. You are sure to get a taste of the exceptional writing of this author!

3 Reasons to Read Historical Fiction

Guest post by Michelle Griep

Believe it or not, some readers snub historical fiction, preferring instead to stick to contemporary reads. Several have good reason to, simply preferring one genre over another. But others have never given historical fiction a try. If you fall into that camp, here are some reasons you should consider reading a tale from the past.

  1. Historical fiction books are not as boring as your high school history class.

Does the thought of endless names and dates make you break out into hives? Good news! Historical fiction is a painless way to glean some historic facts without mindless memorization. You can experience a different era and culture vicariously through heroes and heroines that live on the pages of yesteryear.

  1. Makes for great conversation.

In a world that prides itself on keeping up with the Kardashians, dare to add a little cultural zest to your next dinner conversation. Reading historical fiction arms you with interesting tidbits of things that’ve happened in years gone by.

  1. Because truth is timeless.

Some people yearn to go back to a simpler time. The truth is, though, that the grass isn’t necessarily greener on the historic side of the fence. People have had tough issues to deal with no matter the era. . .but therein lies a great reason to read historical fiction: truth is timeless. Be it ancient, biblical, medieval, Victorian, or anything in between, truth never changes.

In my new release, Ladies of Intrigue, you’ll experience all these things and more. Find out about the smuggling trade in Cornwall in The Gentleman Smuggler’s Lady. Learn about the rough and dangerous life on a military fort during the 1860’s in The Doctor’s Woman. Find out why the gilded age wasn’t as glittery as we often think in A House of Secrets.

Don’t be doomed to repeat history. Grab a cup of tea and master it with a great read!

What would happen if you found out someone has been impersonating you?

Sara Murray had never met her mother’s parents and was surprised to learn after her death that they were Amish living in Pennsylvania. When she is finally able to make the trip to meet them, she is shocked to learn someone else has been living with them and pretending to be Sara. Sara can’t understand how quickly her grandparents are willing to forgive the imposter.

Secrets and deceit seem to follow Sara, and she is so tired of it. Though soon she meets Brad Fuller who is visiting her grandparents during Christmas. She likes him a lot, but even he seems to pull away from her, not being totally honest.

Struggling, Sara finds an old canning jar hidden in the basement of her grandparents’ home that is full of encouraging prayers. Can Sara find a way to forgive the past and move on to building new relationships?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The story continues with Sarah Murray. This time, she comes to Lancaster after losing her job, in hopes of staying with her newly discovered Amish Grandparents. But when she arrives, her impersonater Michelle has been living there for a while, and even staying in her mom’s old room! It’s time for another battle between Michelle and Sara!

This is a sweet Amish story, except for the two Englishers, Sara and Michelle. For me, these two adults act plain out childish! There ‘thoughts’ are especially childish and they should both be ashamed! Though I can see Sara’s point, Michelle was munching off Sara’s grandparents a little too much. But the grandparents are the ones who invited Michelle to stay!

As always, in her trademark stylish way, author Wanda Brunstetter gives readers another amazing Amish story to enjoy. The story gets a little boring sometimes, but especially half way through, it comes to life in a new way! And the main issue, forgiveness was weaved together  throughout the story. If you enjoy Amish, here is another winner from this very special Amish Author!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.”

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Stand up for what is right, no matter the cost.

In 1868, Justine Braden’s grandmother charged her with the task of standing up
for what was right—no matter the cost. As a child of ten. Justine didn’t
understand what Granny meant. Now, ten years later, Justine leads a frivolous
life as a New York socialite. She doesn’t have to deal with issues of right and
wrong. Or sacrifice.

Not yet.

For unbeknownst to Justine, generations of the women of her family share a
secret that is revealed to them when they are twenty. They can travel through
time. Such a gift presents them with a great purpose, one that is far beyond their
imagining.

The gift is given, but it can be declined. Or ignored. Or embraced. If a woman is
strong enough, brave enough, and noble enough, the gift will facilitate justice
and change many lives for the better.

Join Justine on her journey from a fickle girl into a woman of great purpose and
potential.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is a very different type of book than I usually read, and I liked it very much! I first want to say I don’t believe a person can go back in time like Justine did. But for the purpose of the story, I did get caught up very quickly in thee present day as well and the historical events.

The story has several situations that stood out to me. First, Justine was living the life as the wealthy daughter of a Banker, with all of the perks of society, until both her parents died. After her mom passed away, Justine was forced to go back to the small town of Piedmont for the funeral. After being there for a few days, even her boyfriend could talk her into going back to NY. I appreciate the way Ms. Moser shows that money and society is not what it seams, and the simple life is a much happier life. And the second thing, money and riches sometimes comes from greed and cheating people, and in this story, I’m glad the evil person loses.

Where Time Will Take Me  is a very well written story full of historical events and history. If you enjoy time travel stories, or if you are like me and this is a new type of story for you, I highly recommend this book to you! I’m just know you will be back to read books two and three if this series. And one more thing, be sure to read the Author’s Notes at the end of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the history behind this story.

I received this book from The author to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal  Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

Nancy Moser

Nancy Moser is the award-winning author of thirty-four books. Her work focuses on discovering our unique purpose. Her genres include both contemporary and historical stories. She also writes and illustrates children’s books.

Her latest historical novel is “The Fashion Designer” about a woman opening a business in 1912 New York City. It’s a sequel to “The Pattern Artist” The latter was a finalist for a Romantic Times award.

Other recent titles include the Downton Abbey-inspired Manor House Series: “Love of the Summerfields”, “Bride of the Summerfields”, and “Rise of the Summerfields.”

Her historical bio-novels allow real women-of-history to share their life stories: “Just Jane” (Jane Austen), “Mozart’s Sister” (Nannerl Mozart), “Washington’s Lady” (Martha Washington) and “How Do I Love Thee?” (Elizabeth Barrett Browning.)

“An Unlikely Suitor” was named to Booklist’s Top 100 Romance Novels of the last decade.

Nancy’s time-travel novel, “Time Lottery”, won a Christy Award, and “Washington’s Lady” was a finalist.

Her contemporary books are known for their big-casts and intricate plotting. Some titles are “The Invitation”, “John 3: 16”, “Crossroads”, “Solemnly Swear”, “The Sister Circle”, “The Seat Beside Me”, and “The Good Nearby”.

Nancy and her husband live in the Midwest. She’s earned a degree in architecture, traveled extensively in Europe, and has performed in numerous theaters, symphonies, and choirs. She knits voraciously, kills all her houseplants, and can wire an electrical fixture without getting shocked. She is a fan of anything antique–humans included.

Why I wrote this book?

I have always been intrigued by time travel (hence my books Time Lottery and Second Time Around.) But for my new book I wanted to try having the “present” be in the past–1878 to be exact.

I have also discovered that the stories that most intrigue me, and the scenes in books and movies that I re-read and re-watch, are the ones where justice is finally victorious. The good guy wins. The bad guy gets what’s coming to him.

And so I wrote Where Time Will Take Me, Book One in the Past Times Series.

Note: I haven’t written Books Two and Three, but I’m writing as fast as I can!

The Matthews brothers are still hunting for information on the man their mother is dating. So when a lead brings Deke Matthews to Golden, Georgia, he tumbles into more excitement than he expects…

It’s All About the Romance – Excerpt

“So,” he said, “you’re a nurse, too?”

“No, but after years of working with vacation clients, I know first aid.”

“Makes sense.” He lifted the towel, glad to see the bleeding was minimal. “Let’s get the bandage on now.”

Grace unwrapped the butterfly and within seconds had it secure. Blood seeped around it.

“Still needs pressure.”

Grabbing a box of gauze, she unrolled a long length and wrapped it around his palm with enough pressure to stanch any more blood flow. She tied it off, then looked up at him, a smile of victory curving her lips.

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

“Mind if I drive?” he asked. “I do better with directions if I navigate myself.”

“Sure.” She stopped short when she eyed the white vehicle he pointed to. “It doesn’t have any doors.”

“Yeah. It’s a Wrangler.”

He could almost see her brain calculating the distance from the ground to the seat. It was a bit of a climb to get in, but he had every faith she could manage it. Especially as she stared at the wide, silver side step, face etched with grim determination. Did she always approach life with such a take-all attitude? He and his brothers had been overly competitive growing up—still were today, truth be told—and he found himself wondering if she subscribed to the same philosophy. If so, this would make for a very interesting summer.

The Power of Words – Review

His Honor, Her Family is a well-written romance with lots of character depth, and I enjoyed it very much. This story stands alone, although there’s another book in the series that I’m eager to read. . . . Recommended.”

Katie’s Clean Book Collection – Excerpt

John had no sooner said the word than he streaked right past her. She turned in panic, ready to give chase, when she saw him dash right into a pair of long legs. Which belonged to her new employee.

“Slow down there, champ.”

Her heart took a dizzy twirl when Deke waylaid her nephew. He smiled at the boy, revealing those dimples, which in turn made her chest squeeze tight. The sun caught the hidden highlights in his dark brown hair, and that woodsy scent of his tickled her nose.

When his gaze met hers, well, she was nothing short of a goner.

This could be a problem.

Remembrancy – Review

“Randel draws readers in and invites them to settle in, enjoy the scenery, and grow with her characters. And she gives a little hint of what might be coming next with the last unattached Matthews brother.”

Among the Reads – Excerpt

Deke fingered the ends of her hair, enjoying the soft silky strands sliding across his skin.

“So, is there a significant other in your life?” He had to ask. “Hiding out in Atlanta maybe?”

“Right. Between my family woes and my work hours, who has time to date?” She rested her head on his shoulder. “You?”

“No one serious.”

“What about that friend you talked about?”

His stomach jilted. Here was an opportunity to open up about what had happened, to ease his guilty conscience. Instead he went for easy. “Her name was Britt. We tried to date once, but were better off as friends. I actually introduced Britt to her future husband and they clicked in a way she and I never did.”

Rockin’ Book Reviews – Review

“In her usual, talented style, author Tara Randel once again caused the reader to feel connected to this enthralling list of characters… Some endearing and a few detestable. . . . This romance/suspense novel is a captivating story . . . . and is hard to put the book down.”

E-Romance News – Excerpt

“What the—”

Hilarious laughter greeted him as he lost his footing and ended up floundering beside her. Righting himself, he wrapped an arm around her and they floated deeper into the cool, inviting waters.

“What was that for?” he asked.

“For convincing me to get into the canoe in the first place. I told you. I’m not outdoorsy.”

Baroness Book Trove – Review

His Honor, Her Family by Tara Randel is a great read near Valentine’s Day. It has a mystery to it, along with romance, and having to deal with family drama. Ms. Randel has a great writing style and she actually had me thinking that I was in Georgia during the summertime instead of at home in Montana during winter. It was a great read. This book is amazing and I couldn’t put it down for anything. I highly recommend this book to those who love romances.”

Jorie Loves A Story – Review

“Randel brings together all the hearty emotional drama you would expect out of an intergener[a]tional saga – thereby, fusing the series with a heartfelt light of deciding what is most important to a person’s life. . . . This is a story where you have people realising [they’re] reaching crossroads in their lives and they need to find the courage to follow through with their plans…”

Locks, Hooks and Books – Excerpt

“Wow,” she said, voice jittery. “That was…”

“Life changing?”

“I don’t know if I’d go that far.” She playfully slapped his arm. “We have to stop.”

“Why?” He looked up. “There’s nothing I’d rather do than kiss you under the stars.”

“I mean it, Deke. With my life up in the air, I’m not sure of the direction I’m headed.”

Hallie Reads – Review

“As their story together unfolds, I had a delightful time seeing how Dante and Grace grow, sorting through the challenges set before them. It’s romantic, it’s sweet, it’s heartwarming (all with a touch of mystery, of course)—these characters charmed their way into my heart, and I wholly enjoyed their story.”

Faithfully Bookish – Review

“This vulnerable sweet romance swept me away to the small mountain town of Golden, Georgia. . . . Between family drama and a struggling business, this story has just the right amount of conflict to balance the romance factor and provide an authentic vibe for readers. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and certainly recommend it for fans of clean romance.”

EmpowerMoms – Review

“I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet romance by author Tara Randell! I loved the small town setting of Golden Georgia and all the adventures (and complications!). . . . Sweet clean romance, sure to make you smile! I can’t wait to read more from this series!”

Heidi Reads… – Excerpt

Suddenly nervous, she hesitated. What if he wouldn’t hear her out? Had decided she was too much trouble? That he was much more suited for the solitary life? What would she do then?

He turned. Took a step, saw her and froze.

Taking a huge breath, she pressed a hand against her stomach and powered forward. It was now or never to change her future. Their future, if he’d listen.

A flash of surprise lit his eyes. “Grace. What’re you doing here?”

“I had to get out of Atlanta for a while.”

One dark brow arched. “Problems?”

“Clarity.”

Thoughts of a Blonde – Review

“Heart-wrenchingly real depiction of family angst! With the next book in her Meet Me At the Altar series, Tara Randel brings us a beaten down heroine who carries the world on her shoulders. The characters are well developed and the story line is full of drama, heartache and the hopeful feeling of love saving all. . . . Really enjoyed!”

My Chaotic Ramblings – Excerpt

Jealous? Grace?

She waited for the smug expression to leave his ridiculously handsome face, but he continued grinning at her.

Drat. She was jealous.

“I’m not jealous.”

Except her tight chest said otherwise.

“Could have fooled me.”

How could she not be after their kiss at the lake yesterday? She’d have to be dead not to feel something, and last time she checked, her heart was still beating. Overtime, apparently, for this man.

And not just the kiss. He’d opened up to her. Even in the short time she’d come to know him, she understood how hard that had been for him. So, feelings for Deke? Big-time. But she’d never, ever, admit she was jealous.

Reading Is My SuperPower – Review

“This is a great series for readers who love a clean and sweet romance that still has some sizzle. The continuing storyline from the first book carries well into this book – tantalizing us with tidbits of information while also leaving us dying to know more & easily catching readers up who haven’t yet read book #1. Tender & swoony, the plot, characters, and setting are set smoothly against the writer’s easy read flow.”

My Life, Loves and Passion – Review

“It’s a roller coaster I did not see coming. At first I was sad that Deke’s stuff got pushed aside, but love how the story turned out. I love books where I start out not sure about the characters and end up being sad the story is over.”

When I met her gaze again she had her lips pressed together and her eyes were still narrowed but this time I got the sense that she was actively trying not to laugh.

As if she could read my mind she arched her brows and shook her head. “Nope. Not gonna happen. You might be able to fool everyone else in this school into thinking you’re some sort of white-hat-wearing hero but you cannot charm me, Jason Connolly.”

I let out a little snort of amusement at that description. “White hat, huh? I always thought I had more of a knight-in-shining-armor vibe going on.”

For a moment, I forgot what I was doing and leaned into him. Wow, he smelled unbelievably good. Like soap and dryer sheets and something a little sharper that I couldn’t identify. I needed to ask him what cologne he wore, because it was incredible. I could smell him all day. Not to mention that his chest was a lot firmer than one would guess, since he hides it under baggy button-down shirts all the time.

Andy cleared his throat and I pulled away. He looked embarrassed again. He really needed to get over that, and I was going to help him, starting right now. “Sorry.” I grinned. “You smell amazing. Your cologne is yummy enough to eat. I could sit here and sniff you for the rest of the class.”

He choked on his spit and quickly put his fist over his mouth to stifle his laughter. “Please don’t.” He was trying to sound horrified, but his face gave him away. He appreciated the compliment.

Okay, not invisible invisible. But, in the not-so-mythical land of Highschoolia where blending in equals obscurity, I rated a negative seven JD on the Jane Doe to Lindsay Lohan Visibility Scale. I’d have been the first to tell you I didn’t mind. Well, typically.

So much for senior year being the best part of high school.

It all started when I caught my boyfriend cheating on me.

I did what any girl would do—I got revenge. Of course, it didn’t stop there. Thanks to a condemning video, I also got eight weeks of community service and athletic probation right before basketball season is supposed to start. (There goes my spot as captain!)

Thankfully, there’s a guy at Marlowe Junction’s Helping Hands who makes passing the time more enjoyable. He’s gorgeous, funny, and a huge basketball fan.

Too bad he’s also my brother’s biggest enemy…

Courtside Crush is a modern-day retelling of Romeo and Juliet, perfect for anyone who likes their sweet romance with a dash of drama. It is the first book in the Varsity Girlfriends series.

Guest Post: Fun Facts

Courtside Crush is a Romeo and Juliet retelling, which means I drew heavily on the play for inspiration.

I even had a sticker made that I’m giving to anyone who orders the e-book or paperback. (You just have to send a screenshot of your purchase and your address to any of my social media inboxes to claim one!)

—Many of the characters in Courtside Crush have counterparts from Romeo and Juliet, though it’s not always obvious. We have Romeo and Juliet, of course, but I also included an evil Count Paris, a gender-bent Friar Laurence, a kind-hearted Mercutio, a ginger Tybalt, and a snooty Rosaline. (Can you figure them all out?)

—When I write, I tend to get stuck on a handful of songs. Is it any surprise I listened to a lot of Taylor Swift—specifically Love Story. I just couldn’t help myself!

—After I finished writing Courtside Crush, I bought my very first Funko Pops. They are little versions of Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. I still remember watching the “modern” version of Romeo and Juliet back in the 90s. It was eye-opening to see the “stuffy” play in “real life”.

—I know NOTHING about basketball. Absolutely nothing. But my co-writers both insisted we tackle that sport in our joint series. This meant I had “DO THE SPORTS THING” in my draft—a lot. In fact, they had to basically write some of the sports scenes for me. (Whoops!)

Courtside Crush just released on 2/12/19 and it’s my favorite book I’ve written to date. I hope you love Jackson and Charlie as much as I loved writing them!

Brunch at Bittersweet Cafe By Carla Laureano

About the Book

Brunch at Bittersweet Cafe cover

Title: Brunch at Bittersweet Cafe

Author: Carla Laureano

Genre: Christian Romance

Release date: February 5, 2019

Publisher: Tyndale

Baker and pastry chef Melody Johansson has always believed in finding the positive in every situation, but seven years after she moved to Denver, she can’t deny that she’s stuck in a rut. One relationship after another has ended in disaster, and her classical French training is being wasted on her night job in a mediocre chain bakery. Then the charming and handsome private pilot Justin Keller lands on the doorstep of her workplace in a snowstorm, and Melody feels like it’s a sign that her luck is finally turning around.

Justin is intrigued by the lively bohemian baker, but the last thing he’s looking for is a relationship. His own romantic failures have proven that the demands of his job are incompatible with meaningful connections, and he’s already pledged his life savings to a new business venture across the country—an island air charter in Florida with his sister and brother-in-law.

Against their better judgment, Melody and Justin find themselves drawn together by their unconventional career choices and shared love of adventure. But when an unexpected windfall provides Melody with the chance to open her dream bakery-café in Denver with her best friend, chef Rachel Bishop, she’s faced with an impossible choice: stay and put down roots with the people and place she’s come to call home . . . or give it all up for the man she loves.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I really enjoyed getting to know Justin and Melody and all of the other characters in Brunch at Bittersweet Cafe. I didn’t expect to like this series so well, but the stories are different than what I’ve ever read and it was a sure delight reading this story, as well as the first in this series. Melody’s love for baking soon found her with her own restaurant. But without the guy she was in love with. Justin was fulfilling a duty to his sister and brother in law.

I’ve only read a few books by Carla Laureano, and I’ve found she’s an excellent writer. I enjoyed the way this story flows, keeping my interest until the last page. I grew to love the realistic characters, especially with Melody and Justin. And the strong sense of making the right decisions, and letting God guide your life was woven within the lives of the characters. This isn’t a fantastic read folks, check this one out!

A copy of this book was provided by Celebration Lit Tours and the author for me to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.

Guest Post from Carla

“Confessions of An Erstwhile Baker”

Like most females, baking is encoded somewhere deep down in my DNA. Call it nature or call it nurture, but at the earliest age, I figured out that the cute boy in my English class would talk to me if it involved chocolate chip cookies. Got my heart broken or had a friend betray me? I grabbed the mixing bowl and went for the brownies (even better if they’re served à la mode.) My friend was having a birthday? I made a cake drowned in pounds of buttercream.

I quickly graduated from the boxed mixes to the real thing when I got married and had a kitchen large enough to roll out dough. I would comb magazines for the best recipes and spend my weekends trying them out. I quickly became known for bringing beautifully iced Christmas cookies and delicious homemade cakes to work.

Then my husband and I moved our young family from Los Angeles to Denver, a relocation that was about 1000 miles northeast and 5000 feet up. Suddenly, every recipe I’d perfected in the previous eight years failed. Cookies burned to crisps, cakes fell, and don’t get me started on candy making. Gradually, I adapted my recipes (my beloved never-fail Toll House recipe took eight tries to get right) and even became an avid artisan bread-baker.

Then disaster. Or at least, what a baker would consider a disaster. After developing chronic health problems, I discovered that among other things, I was sensitive to gluten. The horror! In order to heal, I turned to the paleo diet, which eliminates all grains (there goes most gluten free recipes) and all processed sugars (there goes everything else). I’ve tried baking paleo-style, and while I can now make cakes that even my gluten-fiend family enjoy, it’s just not the same.

So what’s a once-obsessive baker do when she can’t eat her creations? She bakes for other people and goes on faith that they actually taste good… considering she can’t taste them herself.

It struck me that there was a spiritual lesson in that, and an obvious tie to Brunch at Bittersweet Café, which deals in large part with Melody’s faith journey. There are times when we have no idea if things are working out the way they’re supposed to, in which case we just have to trust the “recipe” and the input of friends and family who love us. Sometimes our instincts tell us when we’re off track, and sometimes we need that outside nudge from our “taste-testers” to put us back on course.

In any case, what Melody and I have in common is that we both bake to show our love for the people around us. And the process of baking my favorites, even knowing that I can’t enjoy them myself, can still be a selfless way to show people they’re important to me.

Fortunately, macarons, which happen to be made with almond flour, are still on the menu.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Reagan Bellamy’s neighbor, Dash Carter, refuses to wither under her stare. Reagan’s too busy to waste time on a loser with musical pipe dreams. Between classes and her need to stay ahead of the game, she’s got too much on her plate to give him the time of day.

For the first time in a long time, Dash Carter feels optimistic about the future. He’s clean, he’s on a good path, and he’s surrounded himself with people who make life better. Unfortunately, his beautiful neighbor still thinks he’s a slacker, bothering Dash more than it should. When Dash inadvertently puts Reagan in a difficult position with her new boss, he becomes more invested in her life despite warnings from his mentor to not get involved with someone whose beliefs don’t match his own.

The more Reagan digs her heels in against the religious freaks she’s forced to interact with, the more she begins to question everything she’s built her life upon. When the tide begins to turn in Reagan’s heart and her worldview flips upside down, trusting God means putting everything on the line, including her heart.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Christy Hayes is a new author for me, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. And I will say I was pleasantly surprised at how well I liked this book, and how well it is written. Reagan really couldn’t stand Dash Carter, but for some reason he’d had a crush on her for a long time. It’s after Dash found Jesus, that he gave up his life of drugs, sex and partying during and after each gig he and his band preformed. But now his new band preforms in church, which Reagan finds out after Dash tricks her into going.

Most of the characters here are collage age, but they were realistic, the scenes played out were just as it would be in the real life of collage kids. The story and characters develop well as the story progresses! And through this would be an excellent read for a teenager, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Dash and Reagan deals with situations and issues our teens and even younger kids as well deal with in today’s world. And Christy Hayes does a really nice job of clearly explaining the temptations and dangers of following the world and what it has to give. As well as explaining the Christian life and how to live as Christ wants us too. And she does it in a way that fits in well with the everyday life of the characters, not in a pushy and preachy way. And I like that she doesn’t leave out the struggles a person has after they accept Christ into their lives. The gig scenes especially were very intense, offering a lot as the world wants to offer. This would be more of an edgy Chrisitan fiction, but it’s one I would want my teenager to read!

A lot goes on in this story, I’ve only hit the surface, so I strongly encourage you to pick up a copy for yourself and see what you think. It is truly several hours of entertainment!  I received this book from Prism Tours to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal  Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

Since her mom died, Amy Whalen’s been invisible—but not in the cool, superpower kind of way. Overlooked at school and ignored at home, Amy holds tight to her few constants: running, painting, and her long-held crush on soccer god, Chris Kent. But as senior year nears, Chris doesn’t just notice her, he needs her.

Amy will agree to almost anything to be with him.

Everything is great—sort of—until Luke Parker shows up for soccer tryouts and sees through every one of Amy’s defenses. When Luke decides he wants Chris’s spot on the team and wouldn’t sneeze at the captain’s jersey either their rivalry spins out of control.

It doesn’t help that Luke also wants the girl Chris kept hidden all summer: AMY.

Rachel’s been keeping secrets for years. No one outside her family knows about the panic attacks or meds, the weekly therapy drive-bys or the “safe” outfit. If she could hide it all from her string of ex-boyfriends and her best friend Amy, then why should anything change? But, when the one guy as messed up as she is blackmails her into helping him, life goes from closely restrained to out of control.

Sometimes choosing between sanity and love is the craziest thing of all.

Excerpt

What would you do if you finally got what you wanted, but had to keep it a secret?

That’s what happens to Amy Whalen.

She’s finally gotten the attention of the guy she’s been crushing on for years, only he’s got some stupid plan and lots of rules and a “public persona” girlfriend to go with them that do not include Amy.

But, that’s not weird, right? I mean, her mom left her (okay, died) and her dad has been MIA for 4 years even if he does make sure that house is paid for and food occasionally shows up in the kitchen. She hasn’t even seen him in months.

So maybe she’s just that girl…the second-best girl and she should take what she can get, right?

That is, until the new guy shows up at tryouts and makes her (and her secret boyfriend) challenge everything they thought they knew about her.

SECRET GIRLFRIEND EXCERPT

Seven lockers down Chris Kent was making out with Cheryl, the way-too-perky head cheerleader.

I tried not to stare, but when his hand slid past her waist and over her hip, I slammed my locker shut and stormed off in the opposite direction. Not that anyone noticed. The problem? Not only was I that gorgeous jock’s secret girlfriend—I also had a secret power.

I’m invisible.

I’d made a deal with the devil… I mean the boy… and stomping away was the only thing I could do.

That boy? Chris Kent? Yeah, he and his Plan might just kill me where Advance Trig had failed. But, with my dream guy as the self-proclaimed prize, what’s a girl to do?

I’d been only too happy to sign onto The Plan. And, since tryout sessions were closed, little Miss Wave-My-Butt-Around-In-My-Too-Short-Cheer-Skirt couldn’t show up to practice no matter how much she fluttered her eyelashes.

You see, I’ve been in love with Chris Kent since fifth grade and, as senior year was about to start, he was finally all mine—well, sort of.

All I had to do was follow The Plan until after Homecoming, track the soccer team’s stats with the same dedication Aunt Susan counted Weight Watcher’s points, and not kill Cheryl. Easy, right?

Yeah, right. Amy needs to do a little more than that – like figure out who she is, what she really wants, and not let the two guys in her life kill each other in the meantime.

Excerpt

“Okay.” I threw my hands up in surrender. “But fair warning…if I’m having a bad day, I may lean over and smell your neck to induce a calming effect. When that happens, don’t punch me.”

Andy shook his head, bewildered by the turn our conversation had taken. “I’ll try not to punch you, if you decide to randomly press your face against my neck.”

“When you say it like that, I sound like a psycho stalker.”

Psycho and stalker are your words, not mine. But, if the shoe fits…” He trailed off, and I smacked him on the arm.

“Ouch!” Andy rubbed the place I’d just hit. “I’m only kidding. I don’t think you’re a psycho stalker. I’ve never seen any indication that you’re a stalker. You’re more likely a plain old psycho.” He was grinning nice and big now, and I couldn’t help but grin back.

Band Geek vs Quarterback…

One humiliating photo, a stupid prank, and a hashtag that goes viral. That’s how my senior year goes from predictable to absurd in a heartbeat. This year is supposed to be easy. I’ve finally scored first chair in band, my college applications are done, and all my friends and I have to do is survive one more year of high school before our real lives can begin. Instead, I find myself in trouble with the principal, humiliated in front of the entire school, and fighting with my neighbor—AKA star quarterback, Prince Charming, and nicest guy on the planet.

And that’s just on the first day back at school. Trust me, it only gets worse from there. As #GeeksGoneWild trends on social media, my friends and I are the targets of an online witch hunt. But they’ve picked on the wrong people and retaliation is severe. As the tension escalates, it soon becomes clear that someone needs to step up and put an end to this nonsense. If that means playing nice with the quarterback, I guess that’s what I have to do. Now if someone could please tell my heart that this new friendship is just for show. And the kisses…oh, the kisses. Someone please remind me that they don’t mean a thing.

Excerpt
When I met her gaze again she had her lips pressed together and her eyes were still narrowed but this time I got the sense that she was actively trying not to laugh.
As if she could read my mind she arched her brows and shook her head. “Nope. Not gonna happen. You might be able to fool everyone else in this school into thinking you’re some sort of white-hat-wearing hero but you cannot charm me, Jason Connolly.”
I let out a little snort of amusement at that description. “White hat, huh? I always thought I had more of a knight-in-shining-armor vibe going on.”
Her frown was exaggerated. “Never going to happen. I’m immune to your charms.”
“Never say never.”
She rolled her eyes but reached for the failed pop quiz I’d laid out between us as a weird sort of olive branch. She scanned it briefly, her eyes bright with new interest that was entirely academic. “Okay, fine,” she said, sliding the quiz back to me. “Let’s get this over with.”
“That’s the spirit.”
She arched a brow as she flipped open my book so we were on the same page. “You’re currently witnessing the cruel and unusual punishment that has me paying for your friends’ idiotic idea of a joke. Don’t tell me I ought to be happy about it.”
She met my gaze evenly and I tried not to flinch. She pointed to the chapter heading on my book. “Read this.” Then she sat back with folded arms. “You’re only my problem until next week. That’s when my punishment ends.”
I opened my mouth to make another flippant joke, but stopped. The fact that she was here being punished wasn’t funny, especially since she wasn’t the one who should’ve been paying. So instead, I met her gaze and gave her a small smile that held no teasing. “Then I guess we’d better get started.”

Grand Finale: Winning the Cowboy’s Heart By Karen Rock

Book Tour Grand Finale for
Winning the Cowboy’s Heart
By Karen Rock
We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops
you’ll find snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:
Launch – Note from the Author

The Cade and Loveland family drama continues with the fifth book in my Rocky Mountain Cowboys series! The Cade and Loveland ranching families, neighbors who’ve been feuding for over a hundred years, are full of such interesting and complicated characters who face, and overcome, personal challenges in unique and inspiring ways to find true love and happiness. . . . I hope you enjoy this long awaited love story where opposites truly attract and learning to love yourself is the first step to truly loving another.

— Karen

“This is an entertaining tale of two “sworn enemy” families who were forced to look “deep within themselves and in others”. This story is somewhat predictable, yet, keeps the reader interested until the very end.

This will surely inspire all who read it. The characters are very realistic and the scenes easily visualized.”

“What a great story! This book is part of a series, yet I had no trouble jumping in and understanding some of the backstory between the two main families that was established in previous novels.

I really liked Heath and Jewel and wanted things to work out for them. They had such great chemistry . . . . I really liked this story and hope to read future books in this series.”

Hallie Reads – Review

“Another delightful cowboy story from Karen Rock, Winning the Cowboy’s Heart puts Jewel Cade and Heath Loveland at the forefront of the action. Their families may be feuding, but the chemistry and attraction they share is undeniable—and seeing their romance unfold is well worth the read. . . . If you love cowboy romances, definitely check out Winning the Cowboy’s Heart. It reads well on its own, so don’t worry if you haven’t read the rest of the series yet (but those books are wonderful, too!).”

“Winning the Cowboy’s Heart is an excellent story, as is the whole Rocky Mountain Cowboys series. It’s well written, highly entertaining, almost impossible to put down, engages the emotions, and is clean. . . . Woven throughout this story is the off-the-charts chemistry between Heath and Jewel, with some kissing scenes guaranteed to leave you weak at the knees, but there’s also tons of atmosphere, character depth and relational drama. . . . I don’t think I’ll ever tire of this series and hope for more stories to come. Highly recommended.”

“This has been such a fun series so far. I am loving it. Finally we get to Jewel, one of the rare women in the midst of this family of mostly men. . . . I really loved Jewel. . . . One thing I love about this book was Heath’s perspective. . . . The family dynamics continue to play a large role in the book as with all the other books in this series. The bigger story is playing out and shifting with each of the main characters from previous books contributing their part. I love the ongoing feeling of family and, well, the drama that only family can bring.

I can’t wait for the next book which is coming soon!”

“Karen Rock does a fantastic job of portraying her character’s feelings with vivid imagery that completely sings to my soul. . . . I thoroughly enjoyed the small-town, cowboy feel to the story and loved the grit and determination of both Heath and Jewel, as they work hard to prove themselves and to follow their individual dreams. . . . The chemistry simmers from the start and the gradual release was well worth the wait. I think this one is my favorite of the set so far! I loved every juicy minute of this book and I can’t wait for more.”

“The beauty of this installment is not just keeping the continuity in tact for the Loveland/Cade adverse relationship stemming from water rights but for giving us a glimpse into how hard it is to recognise needing the time to learn “who you are’ before you can consider becoming a ‘partner’ with someone else. . . . Rock hasn’t disappointed me – she’s crafted together a wicked lovely fifth installment of a series that is enduring as it is nurturing . . . its a series that once it grabs your emotional bookish hearts, your not going to want to ‘let it go’ until you get the chance to read the next story!”

“This is a great book inspired by Romeo and Juliet. It has the arts in it (music) and it has a family rivalry. . . . Even though their families are feuding, they are thrown together. As they work side by side they start to fall for each other. . . . I am giving this book a 5/5.”

“This is a great book for readers who enjoy clean romance, big families, ranching, music, and happily ever afters. Although I’m sure the previous books in this series are equally enjoyable, this story can be read independently and I definitely recommend it!”

Remembrancy – Review

“With the pull of attraction getting stronger between Heath and Jewell, a looming lawsuit between the families, and discovering what’s most important in their lives, Karen Rock gives readers another thoroughly enjoyable and fulfilling story. Winning the Cowboy’s Heart one is the best in the series yet!”

onemused – Review

#WinningTheCowboysHeart is a Romeo and Juliet style cowboy romance. . . . Heath and Jewel are a great, complimentary couple. Notably, as a heartwarming book, you won’t find more than a kiss in the book- but boy, are there some kisses! I highly recommend!”

EmpowerMoms – Review

“This story was really fun to read! I enjoyed the characters, family dynamics and reading about daily life on the ranch. I can’t wait to read more books in this “Rocky Mountain Cowboys” series! . . . Highly recommend this book and series-it’s a lot of fun to read!”

Harlie’s Books – Review

“Okay, I still haven’t told you why I loved the book. Simple. Ms. Rock wrote it and I love the Cades and Lovelands, warts and all. With this story, my emotions and reactions were all over the place and I love her for it. She made me stop and think about it. I’m writing this review the night before its due and I finished the book over a week ago. Yes, I’m still thinking about it and my emotions are still strong.”

“Since I read the first book in the series and then ones after that I have looked forward to Jewel’s story. This book did not disappoint. . . . I am enjoying this series. They can be read as a stand alone but I recommend the whole series, they are all great.”

“This has been a fun series so far and I have to admit that I’ve been anxiously waiting to read, Winning the Cowboy’s Heart. . . . Ms. Rock certainly made the wait worthwhile by focusing on Heath and Jewell. I absolutely loved the banter between them . . . I love novels that focus on family, friends and hard work something the author covers so well throughout this series. . . . It’s a fast-paced story filled with sweet and loveable characters, Although this is the 5th book in the series it can be read as a standalone but I recommend you read them in order so that you can follow the families and their history.”

“I loved Winning the Cowboy’s Heart. Heath and Jewell were fun together. The chemistry between the two was undeniable. I never knew what would happen with them and had to keep turning the pages to find out. . . . I highly recommend it for readers who love a well written, clean and heartwarming romance. ”

“It’s like coming home again! Every time I open the latest book in Karen Rock’s Rocky Mountain Cowboy’s series, it’s like being among family. . . . I loved the complexity of their situation, and getting to catch up with news from how our favorite past couples are doing. Great characters, compelling drama and a sweet happily ever after … loved Jewel & Heath!”

“This is a story of learning to trust yourself and to do things that will benefit yourself rather than striving always to please others. It is an exploration of how expectations and dreams can be revised, especially when you discover what your thought were facts really aren’t. . . . I’ve enjoyed every book in this series. They probably work well as standalones but they are about the same families and relate to events in chronological order – I highly recommend them all and can’t wait for the next one, A Rancher to Remember, to be released in April!”

“Winning The Cowboy’s Heart by Karen Rock is absolutely amazing. I don’t know how but Rock always makes me feel like I am right there with her characters as I am reading. . . . I hope you are ready for a modern day Romeo and Juliet.”

“I have been waiting for Jewel and Heath’s story since book one and boy howdy it did not disappoint. With one party already in full crush mode and the other party pretty much oblivious at first, it makes for some interesting tension in close quarters. But whew – once Heath figures things out he’s a man on mission. And since some of that mission involves sizzling kisses, you know I’m on board!”

Book Blast & Giveaway: Pathways by Camille Peters

Pathways by Camille Peters

Eileen has never been interested in love. Ever since her father’s abandonment, she’s vowed to never experience such pain again. But the enchanted forest has different ideas. When the continuously shifting pathways lead her to a mysterious stranger, Eileen finds her promise to fiercely guard her heart increasingly difficult to keep.

One night when she becomes lost in a storm, the enchanted forest’s pathways lead her to the castle, home to the kingdom’s Dark Prince, where Eileen finds herself entangled in what many consider an opportunity but which Eileen believes to be a curse: competing for the Dark Prince’s hand through a series of tests that judge one’s royal worth. Eileen is neither royal nor interested in becoming a princess. But the mysterious stranger she met in the woods has his own reasons for helping her succeed, but the cost of his assistance may be too high: that of Eileen’s heart, the one thing she’s vowed never to give.

Inspired by “The Princess and the Pea”

Praise for the Book

“This was SUCH a cute book! The characters were very well developed…The supporting characters were just as endearing…as the main characters. The descriptions of surroundings were impeccable, I could just see the environment and feel the feelings that were invoked by them. The plot was really well thought out, the ideas were super creative, and I love the general fairy tale feel…I couldn’t put it down, I just fell in love with the characters and I can’t WAIT for the next one!”

“I ADORE the creativity in this book! The forest is so magical and has so many enchanting moments throughout the story. I loved being transported into a fairy tale theme as I read; it was a perfect escape into a sweet and charming era! I absolutely loved the direction the story went and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the adventure Eileen stumbled upon. There are so many fun characters in the story, each with unique personalities! This is such a darling story about loyalty, romance, friendship and all with a fairytale feeling!”

“This is a delightful story of romance and adventure, centered near a magical forest that guides its travelers to discover not only its own enchantments, but also to find true love along the way. It is also a story of growth and overcoming one’s weaknesses, and of going forward despite one’s fears. Both of those things are inspirational to me, and I found myself relating to the characters and hoping for their success. An enjoyable journey to give hope to your heart!”

“I really enjoyed this story. The characters are fun and delightful and they were well developed. I liked that it was only loosely based on an existing fairy tale and branch out in interesting ways to create romance and drama. I get really bored with the same re-telling over and over and this was fresh and new.”

Excerpt

A knock sounded on the door. I bit back a sigh, both of impatience and relief. “Come in.”
I gasped as the door swung open, for it wasn’t Alaina who stood there but—“Aiden?”
He beamed, his eyes lighting up as they settled on my face. Warmth seeped over me to see him again after all these weeks, and my heart performed several cartwheels as he stared at me, his expression tender.
“Aiden!” I fell into his arms, burrowing myself against him.
He nestled against my hair. “It’s wonderful to see you. I admit I thought it’d be much longer before our paths crossed again, and I’m pleased that’s not the case.”
I tipped my head back to gape up at him. “Wait, what are you doing here?”
“An excellent question; one I was about to ask you. May I come in?”
I slowly nodded. He shut the door behind him, his eyes never once leaving my face. The shock of seeing him at the palace of all places slowly subsided and I tentatively smiled. “I can’t believe you’re here. I never thought I’d see you again.”
He returned my smile with a lopsided one of his own and my insides fluttered. “I promised we’d see each other again. How are you?”
I sighed. “I’m in a bit of a predicament.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Indeed. So you’re a secret princess keen on trying to persuade the prince to marry you?”
I pulled a face. “No, this is all some horrible misunderstanding.”
“Is it?” He folded his arms and leaned against my bedpost. “And how did a common girl end up in such a plight?”
I narrowed my eyes at him. A secret danced within his dark eyes, taunting me. “You don’t happen to know the answer, do you?”
He chuckled, and the warm sound I’d fiercely missed washed over me. “I do, actually.” His smile widened. “I’ve really missed you, Eileen. I’m so glad you’re here.”
“Why am I here?” I pressed my hands on my hips and glared at him, demanding he answer me.
He straightened and came over until he stood directly in front of me, enveloping me in his warmth and causing the strange sensations that only came from him to fill my heart. “It so happened I witnessed your unexpected arrival last night.”
“What are you even doing here?”
“Isn’t it obvious? I’m a member of the court.”
My brow furrowed. “I don’t understand. How does your being a member of the court explain why I now find myself trapped here?”
“Because thanks to my position, it wasn’t difficult to convince the guards that you’re one of the princesses come here to woo the prince.” He winked.
I gaped at him, my heart pounding furiously. With each beat my insides burned, my anger searing and poisonous. “You told them what?”
He frowned. “I told the guards that you’re a princess.”
“You mean to tell me,” I hissed through gritted teeth, “that it’s your fault I’m tangled in this dangerous mess?”
Perplexity twisted his expression. “Mess? It’s an opportunity.”
“An opportunity for what, exactly? To be executed?”
He rolled his eyes. “Why so dramatic?”
My fists tightened. “If I’m caught posing as a royal, what do you think will happen? You think the royal family will merely have a good laugh before releasing me? No, they’ll send me to the gallows.” My blood chilled. I needed to escape. I stomped to the door, but Aiden blocked my exit.

Her love of writing grew alongside her as she took local writing classes in her teens, spent a year studying Creative Writing at the English University of Northampton, and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in English and History. She’s now blessed to be a full-time author.
When she’s not writing she’s thinking about writing, and when’s she’s not thinking about writing she’s…alright, she’s always thinking about writing, but she can also be found reading, playing board games with her family and friends, or taking long, bare-foot walks as she lives inside her imagination and brainstorms more tales.
