Into the Whirlwind is a delight. Elizabeth Camden shows remarkable ability to breathe life into nineteenth-century Chicago and its people. If you are a fan of historical romantic suspense, I cannot recommend this book or this author too highly.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I have read several stories about the Great Chicago Fire and I am always glad when I can read another one. And I loved Into the Whirlwind. There is so much history recorded this this book that at times, to be honest, it did get boring. I was so into the characters that I wanted to read about them!

Molly Knox was working go save the company her father left for her, which was ruined by the fire. Spending so much time with lawyer Zack Kazmarek, there was an attraction that couldn’t be denied. I liked Molly from the start but Zack, he was kinda whack in the beginning but then he grew on me. The information and talk about the fire was interesting, because I enjoy talk about that time in history. And reading this author’s take on what it might have been like back then was fun and entertaining. If you enjoy historical fiction that is good clean fun, this is one you will enjoy. Why not grab your copy today! And hope you enjoyed as my as I did!!

Camden has penned a truly eloquent Christian romance from start to finish. Everything here is top notch: the writing, the detailed characterization, the historical setting, and the tender romance that will resonate with readers. The dialogue between the two main characters is not only fabulously smart, but playfully witty.

Christian Historical Romance
Paperback & ebook, 352 Pages

Eloise Drake’s prim demeanor hides the turbulent past she believes is finally behind her. A mathematical genius, she’s now a successful accountant for the largest engineering project in 1908 New York. But to her dismay, her new position puts her back in the path of the man responsible for her deepest heartbreak.

Alex Duval is the mayor of a town about to be wiped off the map. The state plans to flood the entire valley where his town sits in order to build a new reservoir, and Alex is stunned to discover the woman he once loved on the team charged with the demolition. With his world crumbling around him, Alex devises a risky plan to save his town–but he needs Eloise’s help to succeed.

Alex is determined to win back the woman he thought he’d lost forever, but even their combined ingenuity may not be enough to overcome the odds against them.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The setting is New York City 1896. Needing more water supply to the city, it was decided to violins a reservoir, which would wipe out the small town of Dubai Springs. Mayor Alex Duval is determined to fight for the survival of his small town, but being the NY water board accountant, his longtime love Eloise Drake will be the one he’s fighting against. But can she end up helping him out if the bind of losing his town?

Elizabeth Camden has created unique and intriguing characters in Eloise and Alex, and Alex is sure to have his hands full with the feisty Ms. Drake! I found it very heartwarming as I read the determined feelings the people of Duval Springs have of their small town. They were not easily giving up their homes and friendships. And I found the author did a really good job of weaving together the emotions and feelings of everyone involved. And emotions and feeling you are sure to experience as you read this journey if small town Duval Springs.

The one thing wanted to be different was a stronger emphasis on the Christian life in the characters. It is listed as Christian fiction and Bethany house is a Christian publisher, and I felt it was lacking in that area. Other than this, it is a very good read from this author.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Anna and Luke were such an adorable couple, even though they didn’t think so themselves. Luke came from a rich but struggling family. His dad a heavy drinker and abuser. Anna’s life has been quite different, with her schedule pretty straight set, and her quiet life as a map librarian. This is the first time I’d read anything about a map librarian, never even heard of it, so this was quite interesting for me. Without all of the technology we have today, those people had a pretty neat way of finding seas and what they held.

This was such an amazing book, well written, the characters were amazing. Ms. Camden is such a talented writer and you can feel her talent in this wonderful heartfelt story. Although Luke Callahan was a goodlooking congressman, and an outspoken one at that, troubles of home were sure to come to surface sooner or later. Bringing more questions about this man Anna had grown quite fond of. Their relationship was pretty complicated, but the romance was sweet, and kept us all on our toes, wondering what would happen, if anything at all. This is a book you don’t want to miss. I have read all of Ms. Camden’s books, and each one gets better and better!

CFBA presents Into the Whirlwind by Elizabeth Camden

Elizabeth CamdenABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A research librarian and associate professor, Elizabeth Camden has a master’s in history from the University of Virginia and a master’s in library science from Indiana University. She has published several articles for academic publications and is the author of four nonfiction history books. Her ongoing fascination with history and love of literature have led her to write inspirational fiction. Elizabeth lives with her husband in central Florida.

ABOUT THE BOOK

After her father’s death, Mollie Knox takes over his watchmaking company and uses her head for business to solidify the good name of the 57th Illinois Watch Company. Her future looks bright until the night her beloved city is destroyed in the legendary Great Chicago Fire. With her world crumbling around her, Molly must do whatever it takes to save her company in the aftermath of the devastating fire.

Zack Kazmarek is an influential attorney with powerful ties to the political, mercantile, and ethnic roots of Chicago. His only weakness is Mollie Knox, a woman who has always been just beyond his reach. However, all bets are off after the fire destroys Chicago, and Mollie is in desperate need of assistance. Just as Zack finally begins to pursue the woman he loves, competition arises in the form of a hero from her past who can provide the help she needs to rise from the ashes.

While Mollie struggles to rebuild, the two men battle for her heart. One has always loved her, but the other has the power to save her. In the race to rebuild the city, can she survive with her business and her heart intact?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love Elizabeth Camden books and Into the Whirlwind was another awesome historical story from this wonderful author! I really enjoy how she makes history come alive within the pages of her book, just as she did in Mollie and Zack’s story. Mollie lost everything in the great Chicago fire of 1871, and the descriptions of the fire, firefighters, and everything that was involved was amazing and so very interesting. I was so into the story I felt like I was living the story right along with the characters, and especially Molly. She is such an amazing young lady, and I hurt with her as she struggles with losing everything that reminded her of her father. And the tension and struggles between Mollie and Zack kept me reading faithfully until the very last word!

If you enjoy historical fiction, this is one you do not want to miss!  I received this book from the publisher Bethany House and CFBA to read and review.  I was not required to write a positive review. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A Word from Elizabeth:

I am a college librarian in central Florida by day, but by night I can be found pounding out inspirational historical novels the moment the sun goes down. I love writing books about fiercely intelligent people who are confronted with profound challenges. As a rather introverted person, I have found that writing is the best way for me to share my faith and a sense of resilience with others.

I married relatively late in life, which turned out to be an odd kind of blessing. I had gotten very good at leading a solo life, and although I was not particularly content being alone, I had become reconciled to it. Most importantly, it taught me never to take my husband for granted. I give daily thanks for the blessing of being able to share a life with my favorite person on the planet.

As for who I am? I love old Hitchcock films, the hour before sunset, a long, sweaty run through the Florida countryside, and a glass of good wine. After spending my entire adult life on a college campus (either as a student or a librarian) I have finally been able to pursue my ultimate goal of writing professionally.
ABOUT THE BOOK

Love and Lives are Threatened in Camden’s Latest Offering

As a child, Lydia Pallas became all too familiar with uncertainty when it came to the future. Now, she’s finally carved out a perfect life for herself–a life of stability and order with no changes, surprises, or chaos of any kind. She adores her apartment overlooking the bustling Boston Harbor, and her skill with languages has landed her a secure position as a translator for the U.S. Navy.

However, it is her talent for translation that brings her into contact with Alexander Banebridge, or “Bane,” a man who equally attracts and aggravates her. When Bane hires Lydia to translate a seemingly innocuous collection of European documents, she hesitantly agrees, only to discover she is in over her head.

Just as Bane’s charm begins to win her over, Lydia learns he is driven by a secret campaign against some of the most dangerous criminals on the East Coast, compelled by his faith and his past. Bane forbids any involvement on Lydia’s part, but when the criminals gain the upper hand, it is Lydia on whom he must depend.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The last thing Libby Sawyer and her father expected upon their return from their summer home was to find strangers inhabiting a house that had been in their family for decades. Widower Michael Dobrescu brought his family from Romania to the town of Colden, Massachusetts with a singular purpose: to claim the house willed to him long ago. Since neither party has any intention of giving up their claim, a fierce legal battle ensues between the two families.

When important documents go missing from the house, Libby suspects Michael is the culprit. Determined to discover the truth behind the stolen papers, Libby investigates, only to find more layers of mystery surrounding Michael and his family. Despite their rivalry, Libby finds herself developing feelings for this man with the mysterious past.

As a decision about the house looms in the courts, Libby must weigh the risks of choosing to remain loyal to her family or give her heart to a man whose intentions and affections are less than certain.

My Thoughts on this book.

As Libby and her dad are at their usual summer vacationing spot, little did they know that someone was taking over their house on Winslow Street. The house her dad bought, renovated, and they have lived in for over 20 years.

Michael Dobrescu migrates from Romania to America in order to find safety for his family. He already has a deed to a house an uncle left him, but he’s not sure if it is vacant, or what will happen when he announces that he is the proud owner of this house.

My first impression of Michael was not a good one. In fact I really couldn’t stand him. The way he was written into the story to just come in and take over the house gives you that feeling. As I follow the story, I understand better why he thinks it is his right to just take over and move into this house on Winslow Street. By the end of the story, Michael ended up being one of my favorite characters. Though I really don’t think he handled the situation with the house correctly.

I just couldn’t help but like Libby’s character from the beginning. She just has that likeable personality. The read treat in this book was the attraction between Lilly and Michael, and that’s all I will say about it, so you can read it for yourself.

Libby and her father’s attitude about the situation was completely different. Her father hated Michael and his family, where Libby felt sorry for the sister and children and felt the Lord would have her help the family.

“The Rose of Winslow Street” was an absolute pleasure to read. The character were very well created and developed into believable characters that told their story so well. Having read Elizabeth Camden’s book “The Lady of Bolton Hill,” I was really anxious to read this one. Elizabeth is a wonderful story teller and I will sure be watching for her books in the future. I highly recommend this book for you to read and enjoy. Even if historical fiction is not your genre, I think you will love this wonderful story.

This book is just simply beautiful inside and out! The romance between Clara and Daniel is enough to make you want to drool. Elizabeth Camden’s debut book is one of the best debut books I have read in a while. Daniel was the poor guy, making friends with rich daddy’s girl Clara Endicott because of the type of music they shared. As the years go by and the couple gets older, daddy sends his girl across the ocean to be raised by her aunt because he can see the chemistry growing between them. As they meet again twelve years later they realize that they were still not only best friends but sparks begin to sky rocket as the two of them start spending time together. But Daniel is so bitter about the way his parents died will he be able to put all of that behind him? And will Clara marry him if he doesn’t mend relationships and changed his heart, or let God change his heart?

Clara’s dad really irritated me because of his attitude and I am really glad that Clara was independent enough to stand up for herself. I enjoyed the determination of Clara and Daniel to be together even against the odds. The author created a cast of unique and believable characters that you grow to love, some as your own family, and some that you shy away from. This book captured me from the first pages to the very end! I just couldn’t put it down! And oh, by the way, I LOVE the book cover. The model so beautifully wears the gorgeous blue dress and the colors are so soft and inviting. And this is one book that you can judge by its cover! And check this out over on the LifeWay blog, its post for this day is the making of the cover of The Lady of Bolton Hill at Bethany House. Wonderful post and very interesting!
