For Love and Honor By Jody Hedlund

For Love and Honor
By Jody Hedlund

Book Description

Lady Sabine is harboring a skin blemish, one, that if revealed, could cause her to be branded as a witch, put her life in danger, and damage her chances of making a good marriage. After all, what nobleman would want to marry a woman so flawed?

Sir Bennet is returning home to protect his family from an imminent attack by neighboring lords who seek repayment of debts. Without fortune or means to pay those debts, Sir Bennet realizes his only option is to make a marriage match with a wealthy noblewoman. As a man of honor, he loathes the idea of courting a woman for her money, but with time running out for his family’s safety, what other choice does he have?

As Lady Sabine and Sir Bennet are thrust together under dangerous circumstances, will they both be able to learn to trust each other enough to share their deepest secrets? Or will those secrets ultimately lead to their demise?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Lady Sabine has no confidence in herself, or in finding someone to love because of the horrific skin blemish she has. Sir Bennet has no money, but in someway needs to find a way to take care of family debts. Being thrown together under dangerous situations, what would happen to these two? I spent a lot of time in the book wondering this myself. This is a wonderful, historical, Medieval Romance that you don’t want to miss.

I loved these characters that grabbed my attention in the very beginning of the book. As the story unfolds, the characters develop more, and so very interesting and loving. In her usual professional and awesomely wonderful way, Jody Hedlund gives us a wonderful read for young people as well as adults. This is a wonderful book for young ladies to read, especially those who have problems with self-confidence. And I really love the way the author handles this problem through the pages of For Love and Honor. This is a book I highly recommend!

In the final installment of the Amish Heirloom series, the Fisher sisters learn the mystery behind their parents’ marriage—and about the sibling who has never been spoken of.

Mattie Fisher’s three daughters know that she’s been keeping a secret from them. With each item pulled from the beloved family hope chest, they’ve discovered a new clue about their mother’s past.

But there’s a reason Mattie has been keeping her history hidden, and she’s not sure she’s ready to reopen old wounds. Will dredging up the past change the way her children view her? Or her marriage to their father? And can she handle the pain of revisiting the memories that preceded the last few happy decades?

Mattie’s story is one of grief and learning to love again. But like the best things preserved in a hope chest, it’s a story of love and redemption born out of heartache—and it’s past time to share it.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

What A joy to be able to read and review this last book in the series by Amy Clipston. In this last book Mattie tells the whole story to her daughters. My heart went out to Mattie because of the emotions and hurt that she had to relive by telling the story. Though this is a story of heartaches hurts and loneliness, it is also a story of love and forgiveness and healing. Amy Clipston does a fantastic job of creating and developing characters that still your heart because they sure stole mine. If you enjoy Amish Fiction or if you just enjoying a good clean story I highly recommend this book to you. The Beloved Hope Chest. And I also highly recommend that you check out the other books in the series.

I am thrilled to share the The Beloved Hope Chest, which is the final installment of my Amish Home series.

In The Beloved Hope Chest, the Fisher sisters learn the mystery behind their parents’ marriage—and about the sibling who has never been spoken of. But like the best things preserved in a hope chest, it’s a story of love and redemption born out of heartache—and it’s past time to share it.

This book is very close to my heart since it is the last in my Amish Heirloom series. I’ve grown to love the Fisher family, and writing Mattie and Leroy’s story was bittersweet. This is a very emotional story, and I poured my heart and soul into it. I hope you enjoy this book since it reveals all of the mysteries that have been placed throughout the series.

Where Two Hearts Meet by Liz Johnson

Where Two Hearts Meet

by Liz Johnson

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Evocative Contemporary Romance Set in a Charming Inn on Beautiful Prince Edward Island

In her kitchen at the Red Door Inn, executive chef Caden Holt is calm, collected, and competent. But when her boss asks her to show off their beautiful island to impress a visiting travel writer and save the inn, Caden is forced to face a world much bigger than her kitchen–and a man who makes her wish she was beautiful.

Journalist Adam Jacobs is on a forced sabbatical on Prince Edward Island. He’s also on assignment to uncover a story. Instead he’s falling in love with the island’s red shores and Caden’s sweets.

When Caden discovers Adam isn’t who she thought he was, she realizes that the article he’s writing could do more than ruin the inn’s chances for survival–it might also break her heart.

Readers will discover hope for the hurting, joy for the broken, and romance for the lonely at the enchanting Red Door Inn.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Caden Holt is in her element when showing off her cooking skills for the Red Door Inn, but out in the public, she can’t get over her shyness, low self image and feelings of being a nobody! She was not at all feeling her happiest when she is ask to show the island to an important visitor.  And Adam Jacobs is not so sure of himself either, being on sabbatical on the island. But as the two spend time together, the attraction is hard to miss between the two.

Where Two Hearts Meet is the second book in Liz Johnson’s Prince Edward Island Dreams Series. And this series keeps getting better. Caden and Adam are two interesting characters. I already loved Caden from the first book, especially her quiet and shy ways, as well as her love and excellent skills of cooking. Adam had to grow on me a bit though, but as the story unfolds and Adam starts seeing Caden for the sweet person she really is, I had no choice but to love him as well. Adam and Caden both had their issues, both coming from two different lifestyles, and Ms. Johnson does a fantastic job of weaving the lives as Hearts of these two in a beautiful way. This is another book you just do not want to miss. If you are looking for a really, really good, clean book for a few hours of entertainment, then this is your book!! I gladly give it 5 stars!

About the Book

Book: Behind the Scenes

Author: Jen Turano

Genre: Inspirational Historical Romance

Release Date: April, 2017

Miss Permilia Griswold may have been given the opportunity of a debut into New York high society, but no one warned her she wasn’t guaranteed to “take.” After spending the last six years banished to the wallflower section of the ballroom, she’s finally putting her status on the fringes of society to good use by penning anonymous society gossip columns under the pseudonym “Miss Quill.”

Mr. Asher Rutherford has managed to maintain his status as a reputable gentleman of society despite opening his own department store. While pretending it’s simply a lark to fill his time, he has quite legitimate reasons for needing to make his store the most successful in the country.
When Permilia overhears a threat against the estimable Mr. Rutherford, she’s determined to find and warn the man. Disgruntled at a first meeting that goes quite poorly and results in Asher not believing her, she decides to take matters into her own hands, never realizing she’ll end up at risk as well.

As Asher and Permilia are forced to work together and spend time away from the spotlight of society, perhaps there’s more going on behind the scenes than they ever could have anticipated. . . .

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I laughed so much reading a book in a long time! I absolutely loved this story by Jen Turano! Miss Permilia Griswold may have had one of the wealthiest fathers, but being raised in a mine by men, she is anything but a delegate society lady. When her father decides to marry someone to train Permilia to be that perfect society young lady, well it didn’t go over too well. You will go on the journey of a lifetime as you follow Miss Griswold living what is her version of a high society life in New York City. And we can’t forget Mr. Asher Rutherford and the roll he plays.

I love Permilia Griswold and I loved nothing more than when she put her stepmother and stepsister in their place. Two characters that I really couldn’t stand, but they have to be in the story to make it the amazing story it is. And Asher though he was a ladies man and all ladies would just fall at his feet, except Miss Griswold, of course, annoying as she was. But then she actually did literally fall right in front of him in one scene. The Ballroom dancing scene that took me forever to get through because I was laughing so hard I had to keep going back and reading paragraphs over and over! There is so much going on in this book there is no way to hit on it all, so it’s a book you just need to read and see for yourself! I love Jen Turano and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. If you love a good, clean historical read with a lot of humor, this is one book you do not want to miss out on!

I rec’d a copy of this book from Celebration Lit Book Tours and the author for my honest opinion. The opinions here are mine alone!

Interview With Jen Turano

  1. What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you personally?

Amusing things happen to me all the time, but I think my favorite was back in college when I was a lifeguard. You see, there’s a lifeguard code – You will be cool at all times, especially when you’re sitting in a lifeguard chair, twirling your whistle exactly so, and, you know…looking cool. So, there I was, in my black lifeguard bathing suit – swinging my whistle. It was an unusually hot day, so I’d angled my umbrella exactly right as I watched the diving-board section. Now, I know this might come as a surprise, but being a lifeguard at the neighborhood pool isn’t exactly thrilling. It’s rare that anything exciting happens, and that particular day was no exception…until a large gust of wind came out of nowhere and the umbrella took it upon itself to close – right over me. And because it was now really gusty, the umbrella then lifted up, taking me with it right off the chair and into the depths of the deep end of the pool. From all accounts, it was quite the sight. First, there I was, swinging my whistle and looking groovy. Then all you could see were my legs flailing about as the umbrella covered the rest of me, and then…I was plummeting toward the pool, hit the water with the umbrella over me, and promptly sank. Obviously I managed to get out of the umbrella, but in the process, part of my bathing suit came off, and…well, that’s a story for another day.

  1. What is your favorite book from your childhood?

“Andrew Henry’s Meadow.” It was actually my little brother’s book, gotten from one of those book of the month clubs, but I loved it. I recently found a copy on an e-site and ordered it, and it’s just as delightful today as it was back in my childhood.

  1. Who does the cooking and cleaning in your house when you are on a deadline?

I don’t actually cook much even when I’m not on deadline, so that’s not really an issue. Al and I do a lot of salads or throw some chicken on the grill. We also have a lot of grocery stores that have wonderful deli and gourmet foods, so we get a lot of things there. As for cleaning, I’m one of those neurotic people who can’t work without everything being in place, so I do a lot of tidying up before I go to bed. And, because I do some of my best thinking when I clean, I’ve been known to abandon my writing when I get stuck and pick up a mop or cleaning rag, which means my house is rarely a disaster since I need to get unstuck a lot.

  1. Where is your favorite place to write?

I do the majority of my writing in my office, although I will occasionally take a pad of paper and a pen outside to handwrite when I get bored of my office or it’s a really nice day and I don’t feel like being trapped inside. It’s not that my office is my favorite place to write, it’s more that my writing is my job and I’m more focused on that writing when I approach it as such.

  1. What is your favorite part of the writing process?

I really like when characters and new story ideas begin to fester. That normally happens when I’m in the midst of another series. By the time I’m done with whatever series I’m working on, the next series is pretty firmly set in my mind, which means I can jump right in as I wait for edits on recently completed work. My absolute favorite part of writing, though, is when I turn in the very final edit on a book and don’t see it again until it comes out in print. Although, I must admit, I’ve never, not once, read one of my books after it has gone to print. Seems rather pointless since I do always know how the book is going to end.

  1. Why did you choose the timeframe or setting this book is written in?

I’ve been wanting to set a book during Alva Vanderbilt’s famous costume ball of March, 1883, for years. Since I decided to slowly travel through the Gilded Age, I just reached 1883 on my plot timeline, so knew I was finally going to get to throw some characters into the very midst of Alva’s ball. It was a blast to write, loved going back to all my books on this particular ball and seeing the pictures, and only wish the Vanderbilt house at 660 Fifth Avenue was still standing so I could visit it in person to visualize the splendors located inside a little more clearly.

  1. What inspires you?

I think like most writers, I simply get inspired by the world around me. I love to people watch, and I love to imagine all sorts of outlandish scenarios as I do that watching. I also get inspired by reading the headlines of the daily papers, and by the research books I read. I also love to look through old photographs of the Gilded Age, and became intrigued with Alva Vanderbilt’s ball when I saw a picture of a young lady, Miss Kate Strong, with a stuffed cat on her head and wearing a choker necklace with the name Puss engraved on it. That was all it took for me to investigate the Vanderbilt ball further, delighted to discover it truly was a ball that only comes along every blue moon.

Written in Love by Kathleen Fuller

Book Description

When a postal error creates pen pals of two young Amish people, can they put behind their past mistakes to see the bright future God has written for them?

Jalon Chupp has a past he isn’t proud to claim. He’s worked hard to overcome his youthful mistakes, and he has recommitted himself to his faith. When he receives a sweet note included in a piece of misdirected mail, he can’t help but write back. Soon, the letters he receives from Phoebe are the highlights of his days, and with a hopeful heart, he suggests they meet in person.

Phoebe, too, looks forward to every single one of Jalon’s letters. Living with her overbearing aunt, Phoebe doesn’t have too much to look forward to. But when Jalon suggests they meet, she panics—although she has shared some of the deepest longings of her heart with him, she hasn’t been entirely truthful about her past. But when Jalon shows up at her aunt’s doorstep, everything is revealed. And she can only pray he’ll forgive her for holding back the truth. In order to reach beyond the errors of their pasts, both Phoebe and Jalon must put their faith in something—or Someone—bigger than either of them

MY THOUGHT ON THIS BOOK

Jalon Chupp was delighted to get a note when a piece of his mail went to the wrong person. The young lady who sent the note sounded like a special person so he decided to write her back, resulting in months of letters back and forth. Phoebe was just as delighted to keep getting notes from Jalon. Staying with her very strict aunt with her four year old son was not easy on either of them. And Jakob’s notes gave Phoebe a touch of the outside world.

This is such a sweet story. It’s somewhat different, with the actions Jalon takes with Phoebe, but I enjoyed the different twists and turns the story takes. Both Phoebe and Jalon have colorful pasts that they need to deal with, but with their strong faith, even though the difficult struggles, they will survive. The characters are wonderfully created and as each character developes throughout the story, they seemed to weave their way into my heart. Except for the aunt, that is. She was indeed crazy. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series from Kathleen Fuller. I highly recommend this Amish story!

I received this book from BookLook Bloggers Blog Tours to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

A Plain Widow by Diane Craver plus Giveaway

About the Book

Book: A Plain Widow

Author: Diane Craver

Genre: Amish romance

Release Date: March 10, 2017

Molly Ebersol’s life changes in a few minutes when an arsonist torches their barn. Her husband, Caleb, rushes inside the burning barn to save his horses. Although Amish firefighter, Jonathan Mast, tries to save Caleb, he fails. Suddenly Molly becomes a widow.

A month later, an anonymous person gives money to cover the lumber and food expenses for the barn raising. One late night more money is left for Molly on the porch. The fire investigator wonders if the arsonist feels guilt about Caleb’s death and is responsible for the money gifts.

During the continued investigation, it’s learned that Caleb had secrets he kept from Molly. She is crushed by what Caleb did before meeting her. How could the love of her life kept his English past from her?

Her new neighbor, Jonathan, helps her to make the difficult transition from wife to widow. Although Molly develops feelings for Jonathan, can she ever trust him to be truthful to her? She isn’t sure she can fall in love again. Her trust in relationships is shattered because of Caleb’s past actions.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

When Molly Ebersol lost her husband in a barn fire caused by an arsonist, little did she know the drastic changes that were in store for her. She was not only grieving the loss of her husband and the father of their children, could she ever trust a man again after finding out about Caleb’s secrets he never bothered to tell her.

It’s difficult to me to imagine someone living two completely different lives, but I suppose that happens in the Amish culture. Molly was so sweet and caring, and trusting, and it unnerved me reading about Caleb being so unfair to her when he could have been honest and everything would have been ok. Diane Craver created a cast of characters you are sure to fall in love with in her new book “A Plain Widow.” Reading this book I not only saw the struggles that Amish families face but I also saw all the love, faith and forgiveness the Amish so freely give. This is a great read for all of you Amish fan out there, and if you’ve never ventured into the Amish genre, this is a great book to start with!

I rec’d a copy of this book from Celebration Lit Book Tours and the author for my honest opinion. The opinions here are mine alone!

Guest Post from Diane Craver

Back in 2012, when I told our adult children I had written my first Amish book, they looked surprised. In the past I had written contemporary Christian romance, but I had never mentioned anything about researching the Amish faith for my future books. My great-grandfather was a Mennonite minister, but I never knew him. My mother shared stories about his faith and his strictness in raising children. With many similarities between my great-grandfather’s faith and the Amish beliefs, I was drawn to learn more about the Plain life.

Another influence came from my father. While growing up in Findlay, Ohio, my father respected and enjoyed talking with the Amish from Kenton, Ohio. As a farmer, he used both work horses (something he had in common with his Amish acquaintances) and a tractor. In my book, A PLAIN WIDOW, my character, Jonathan Mast, is from Kenton. Unfortunately, my children never knew my father, but they learned how precious he was to me from reading my book, A GIFT FOREVER.

Now several books later, I am still writing Amish fiction. I feel blessed that God directed me on this writing path. A wonderful aspect of writing in this genre is finding Amish recipes to prepare in my kitchen. One of my favorite recipes is also my character Molly’s specialty in my new release. This Amish recipe is an easy bread to make and takes around twenty minutes to prepare.

Delicious Amish Cinnamon Bread

(Makes 2 loaves)

Batter:

1 cup butter, softened

2 cups sugar

2 eggs

2 cups buttermilk or 2 cups milk plus 2 tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice

4 cups flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

Cinnamon/sugar mixture:

2/3 cup sugar

2 teaspoons cinnamon

Cream together butter, 2 cups of sugar, and eggs. Add milk, flour, and baking soda. Put 1/2 of batter (or a little less) into greased loaf pans. (Basically pour 1/4 of the total batter into each pan.)

Mix in separate bowl the 2/3 cup of sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle 3/4 of cinnamon mixture on top of the 1/2 batter in each pan. Add remaining batter to pans; sprinkle with last of cinnamon topping. Swirl with a knife. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 min. Or until toothpick tester is clean.

Cool in pan for 20 minutes before removing from pan.
