Back Lash by Rachel Dylan

About the Book

With a target on her back, she’s determined to find answers.
But can she escape the deadly backlash?

CIA analyst Layla Karam is thrust into a dangerous DEA field operation against a cartel, and after one of her team members is murdered because of fallout from the op, Layla is left scrambling to find safety.

At the same time, the CIA opens an internal investigation against her. Out of options, Layla turns to ex-boyfriend and private investigator Hunter McCoy for help finding out who might want to ruin her career.

Layla and Hunter soon discover that a mole inside the DEA has sold out the team’s identity to the cartel. She needs to clear her name with the Agency in order to protect herself and her teammates from cartel retaliation. With threats on all sides, Layla must put her trust in Hunter–the man who broke her heart–and hope they both come out of it alive.

For those who are content sensitive: this book contains non-graphic scenes and descriptions of physical and sexual assault.

Oh Wow! I love this nail biting thriller! And I didn’t get to read book one, and though I am going to read it later, I had no problems keeping up with the characters. The author does a fantastic job of giving enough details to fill readers in. I love these close knit characters and enjoyed getting to know them as the story unfolds. Layla, Vivian and Bailey are longtime friends after meeting in college and now all three work in some form of law enforcement. Which is exciting!! But someone is out to get Layla, and it seems they will go to any length to succeed.

Back Lash is one of those stay up all night and read books, and it’s exactly what I did. I couldn’t put this book down. There was too much going on and things were happening too fast to stop reading! After ending up in the hospital, a private investigator was brought in to help keep Layla safe. But because they had a past, Layla was not happy to have Hunter around. But she really has no choice.

Being a lawyer, author Rachel Dylan is full of knowledge about writing a legal thriller. This is why I love her books so much! She is spot on with the info. And the cast of characters she creates for Back Lash are so realistic I feel like I’m reading the news. And yet I also feel like I’m living the story with them. They seem like good friends to me now, and I love feeling this with characters. There were so many twists and turns, just when you think you have the bad man, another twist pops up and you are back where you started. Keeping us guessing. But in the end, Ms. Dylan weaves everything together into a wonderful ending. I also love that this author weaves faith and the Christian life into the lives of her characters. And it’s done in a subtle way not to offend anyone.

And oh, I can’t forget. I read the authors note and find it very interesting that the author writes a bit if herself in one of the characters, which I thought interesting and intriguing. Theres a lot to love about this book! If you enjoy a good clean thriller, this is your book!! This one deserves more than Five Stars, but that’s all I can give.

 About this book

Betsy and Ty Franklin, owners of Franklin Dairy Farm in southern Alabama, have long since buried their desire for children of their own. While Ty manages their herd of dairy cows, Betsy busies herself with the farm’s day-to-day operations and tries to forget her dream of motherhood. But when her free-spirited sister, Jenna, drops off her two young daughters for “just two weeks,” Betsy’s carefully constructed wall of self-protection begins to crumble.

As the two weeks stretch deeper into the Alabama summer, Betsy and Ty learn to navigate the new additions in their world—and revel in the laughter that now fills their home. Meanwhile, record temperatures promise to usher in the most active hurricane season in decades.

Attending an art retreat four hundred miles away, Jenna is fighting her own battles. She finally has time and energy to focus on her photography, a lifelong ambition. But she wonders how her rediscovered passion can fit in with the life she’s made back home as a single mom.

When Hurricane Ingrid aims a steady eye at the Alabama coast, Jenna must make a decision that will change her family’s future, even as Betsy and Ty try to protect their beloved farm and their hearts. Hurricane Season is the story of one family’s unconventional journey to healing—and the relationships that must be mended along the way.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Lauren K. Denton is a new author for me, but hearing so many good things about her previous book, I was anxious to read this one. Two sisters, Jenna and Betsy were very close, but the closeness seemed to mean more to Betsy than Jenna. Jenna was happy moving anywhere she de used, trying to find life like she wanted it. But two children should have settled her down a bit. But when she ask Betsy to care for her children for two weeks, which turned into longer than two months Betsy’s husband Ty wasn’t too happy. And it was causing problems between the husband and wife team, even though they loved Jenna’s two girls.

I really enjoyed this story. I fell in love with the realistic characters, and the story was so like real, it really made me fell involved in the lives of the characters. Though sometimes I figured out where the story was going, it was ok, because I wanted to soak up every word of the book. Hurricane Season is a good book for a Sunday afternoon read! And I read it that fast! And because this book is one you just want to read over and over, this is a keeper for me because I plan to read it again soon.
This is a book I highly recommend! Especially if you are looking for a nice, clean story that you can enjoy and have fun reading. You will enjoy it as much as I did! I received this book from TLC Tours to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Wow, this books is breathtaking. So full of fast pace suspense that you will not want to put this book down! I had to lay it aside a few times but I pretty much read until I was finished because I had to find out who was behind all of the horrific things that were happening! People killed, disappearing, not talking to authorities, something was going in with Mason Pharmaceutical and they were trying to hid it, any way they could.  And Kate Sullivan would do anything in her power to find out just what these people were hiding. But it is not without danger. To Kate and anyone else who gets involved.

Author Rachel Dylan writes an awesome suspense/thriller that will have you looking over your shoulder. Mason Pharmaceutical is on her back, watching every move she makes, but who could be working for them? The characters here are believable and the plot moved pretty fast so you get through the story pretty fast. But this one will stay with you for a while! I highly recommend this fast pace thriller to everyone! You will certainly enjoy this book!

A copy of Deadly Proof was provided by Litfuse Publicity Tours and the author for me to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.
