About the Book

Book: Honor’s Mountain Promise

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre:Christian Historical Romance

Release date: March 5, 2023

MY RATING Five Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

They both need a new start, but this looks nothing like either of them planned.

Aaron Long never expected his life to turn out this way—finally on the right side of the law, but with a bum leg and driving a freight wagon through the wild Rocky Mountains. The only excitement left in his days is his newfound faith. But in the midst of an urgent deliver to settlers fort, the last thing he expects is to discover a woman great with child who pleads for him to take her back to Fort Benton—the opposite direction from Settler’s Fort. He can’t leave her, but he also can’t take her where she wants to go.

Katie Barlowe rarely had a say in how her life would go, not even when she married the successful businessman her parents selected for her. Nor when he brought her all the way ut to the Montana Territory to start a ranch in these breathtaking and treacherous mountains. She’s a widow now and determined to take control of her future and that of the new life growing inside her. To do so, she must get back to civilization—before the babe is born. When she finally finds a freighter who will take her the first leg of her journey east, all seems to be finally falling into place. Until her transporter is killed and she’s faced with a stranger who will only agree to take her to a little mining town far from Fort Benton and the steamship to carry her home.

When Aaron and Katie set out through the mountain winter, the journey ahead will change their lives more than they could have known.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love, love anything Misty Beller writes! I have read all of her books so far, and they keep getting better. Aaron needed his own story, and here it is. But when he took off on a run for an urgent delivery, the last thing he was expecting was finding a woman stranded. And a pregnant one at that! Their journey was fun and exciting and I thoroughly enjoyed following the two through the snowy mountains of Montana Territory. The story may have been fun for me, but for these travlers, it wasn’t always an easy time.

As always, I so much enjoyed Beller’s characters, and the way they have their oelwn unique personalities, their strengths and their weaknesses. This adds so much to the story, making it all seem so very realistic. Though I’m not sure how I would handle being in These rough mountains, I would still love to take some of the trips Misty’s characters face. It’s mainly because they have such a unique and close relationship with each other and neighbor helping neighbor. There’s so much going on here in the story. Lots of twists and turns, mainly caused by the weather and traveling. I can’t wait until the next book by this amazing author!

PI’m giving Honor’s Mountain Promise Five Stars and I wish I could give it more. I encourage you to search Misty Beller books and start reading. Once you start reading them you will find it difficult to stop until you finish them all. You can search my blog for more of this authors books!

When the Other Brother Finally Gets His Story

Have you ever read a series that needed just one more book? A significant side character needed their story told?

That’s been the case with my Hearts of Montana series for two years now! I thought I’d wrapped up the series with book 3, Faith’s Mountain Home, which features Nate and Laura as they unravel the mystery around a cave near their Montana frontier town. Nate’s twin brother Aaron played a strong part in that story—and not always as one of the good guys. He was recovering from a gunshot wound that shattered his thighbone, and Laura (the heroine) was his nurse and chief physical therapy sergeant. In those dark days during his recovery, Aaron made some poor choices and definitely wasn’t the best version of himself.

By the end of Faith’s Mountain Home, Aaron saw the change in his twin brother Nate and how his new faith made him different—a better man. In one of the last scenes, Aaron apologizes to Laura for how he’s made her job harder when she was trying so hard to help him. We even get a ray of hope that Aaron might be opening himself up to God’s redeeming power.

Ever since that book released, readers and I have both been looking for Aaron’s story! The book where he finds his own leading lady and becomes the man God created him to be (but not without major obstacles along the way!)

Even if you haven’t read the other books in the series, I think you’ll love Aaron’s story in Honor’s Mountain Promise as much as I did.

Praying blessings for you!

Book: Grace in the Mountain Trail

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre:Christian Historical Romance

Release date: July 12, 2022

This epic journey is her last hope to find her lost brother—the only family she has left.

When Lola Carson’s father died, his last words spoke of a half-brother she’d never known about. And now, to claim her own inheritance and come to terms with her father’s secret life, she must find this mysterious man—whose last known whereabouts are somewhere west of the wild Rocky Mountains. After hiring family friends to accompany her on the trek, she sets out for a wilderness few white women have ever seen. She doesn’t expect the majestic peaks to captivate her so, nor the half-dead brave they find on one of the slopes.

White Owl left his village and his broken heart behind when he set out for a fresh start. His newfound faith is the one anchor in his life. He’s desperate to learn more about the God he’s committed to follow and become an interpreter for the missionaries who led him to faith. But he barely starts his journey when a hunting accident nearly kills him. The woman who discovers him in the midst of his fevered delirium seems to be a gift from above.

But the more White Owl learns about Lola’s companions and her dangerous quest, the more he realizes his own calling is clear—to take her safely to her brother. The question is, will he have to sacrifice more than his heart to accomplish that goal?

From a USA Today bestselling author comes another epic journey through breathless landscapes and adventure so intense, lives will never be the same.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I have been reading Misty Beller’s books from the beginning and love them all. And Grace in the Mountain Trail by Misty M. Beller is no different. We follow the journey of White Owl and Lola in this story and I enjoyed each of these characters very much. The journey’s through these treacherous mountains are hazardous and sometimes life threatening.

I always like how Beller incorporates faith into her characters everyday lives. Lola was depending on God as she searched for a brother she only recently found she had. While White Owl was enjoying finding out more about his new relationship with the Lord. Each book ends with such a sweet ending, and I can’t wait for the next one. If you enjoy historical fiction that is clean with faith running throughout the story, you will enjoy this one. Grace in the Mountain Trail deserves Five Stars from me.

Honor in the Mountain

About the Book

Book: Honor in the Mountain Refuge

Author: Misty Beller

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release date: November 9, 2021

Honor in the Mountain Refuge

This epic journey is his last chance to start a new life.

After being cast out of his Blackfoot village for his kindness to the Nez Perce captives, Chogan travels west in search of meaning for his life. Meaning that doesn’t require killing or torturing innocent people. Though the lovely face of Telípe, a Nez Perce woman, is imprinted on his heart, he avoids her village.  She deserves a happy life with her husband and coming child.

With her husband dead and the birth of her babe imminent, Telípe’s reality looks nothing like she planned. She’s been forced to return to the village where she grew up and the chaos of her family’s lodge—with all her boisterous younger brothers. She desperately desires to start a new life for herself and the babe growing within her, but she can’t seem to climb above the mire of her past. When she stumbles into the brave who’d shown her kindness during her captivity, something ignites within her—a new hope.

Chogan’s determination to stay and help Telípe is thwarted by her people’s fear and hatred for his tribe—especially since he was among last winter’s kidnappers. It doesn’t matter that he did everything he could to keep her and her unborn child safe and comfortable during that awful event. But as a new predator threatens the safety of the village, Chogan determines to take down the massive wildcat that’s already injured several children—including one of Telípe’s younger brothers. When the danger escalates, Chogan is faced with an impossible choice. No matter which option he chooses, his life will never be the same—nor that of the woman he’s come to love.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love anything Misty Beller writes. I was introduced to Misty soon after I started reviewing for Celebrate Lit and have read all of her books since. Honor in the Mountain Refuge is the sixth book in the Call of the Rockies series. I am so glad Telípe is finally getting her own story. She is such a brave character and I love the attraction between she and Chogan. In the scene of the wildcat, Chogan wants so bad to prove himself capable of Telípe and how much he loves her.

Misty Beller does a fantastic job writing this book, her characters are so realistic, and by this sixth book, I feel they are now part of my family. I also love and appreciate the way Beller weaves the gospel within the story in the life’s of her characters. And with Honor in the Mountain Refuge especially that we saw some of the sweet character come to know our Lord and Savior. But no worries, this is done in such a subtle smooth way it doesn’t offend. As with all of Beller’s books, this one is so chunked full of action it is really hard for me to put it down after I started reading. The scenes are do detailed it makes me feel like I’m there in the mist of everything. I find myself wondering how Misty Beller does this but it’s because of her expert writing skills, attention to details and love of these Rocky Mountains. If you love a good historical story where Indians are much involved, you will love Honor in the Mountain Refuge by Misty Beller. I encourage to to check out this book as well as the other books in this series.

When minor characters get their own story!

One of the things I love about writing in series is the chance for minor characters to become major characters, with fascinating lives and personalities of their own! The heroine in Honor in the Mountain Refuge, Telipe, first appeared in Light in the Mountain Sky as Meksem’s little sister who was kidnapped by a band of Blackfoot warriors. Even when I’m the writer, characters often surprise me by doing things very differently than what I expected!

Telipe did exactly that in one of the final scenes of that previous book. When Meksem and her friends showed up to rescue Telipe and the other captives, Telipe actually braced herself in front of one of one of her Blackfoot captors, stopping anyone from injuring him. Why would she do that?

In that book, Telipe only says that the man had been kind to her when the other warriors were not. I knew there HAD to be more though.

I pray you enjoy learning Telipe’s story as much as I did, including how that Blackfoot brave she protected shows up again in the most unexpected of places!

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Courage in the Mountain WIlderness

Keeping her son safe on this epic journey may be harder than she imagined.

Caleb Jackson is on a journey. And not just the mission he and his friends have embarked on to fetch the Nez Perce chief’s runaway daughter. Maybe someday, he could also find God’s plan for his life. He’d once thought being a small town minister was the Lord’s will for him, but he’d proved a failure at living under the scrutiny of his congregation. Yet the chief’s niece and her feisty toddler accompanying them on this expedition make him feel like he might be able to make a difference yet.

Otskai is eager to take on a challenge. She’s lived under the shelter of other’s choices her entire life, especially when she was betrothed to one of the village braves at the tender age of eight. Now with her husband dead, she’s finally found the freedom she always craved—even with a two-year-old to raise. She’s built her camas root harvest into a thriving trade to provide all she and her son need and more, yet she can’t seem to keep her active child safe. When she agrees to accompany her new friends on a trip to bring back her wayward cousin, she knows she’ll have her hands full managing her boy.

The journey turns out nothing like Otskai expects, and for the first time in her life, she’s thankful to have others around to help. Especially Caleb, whose gentle attentions captivate her son and occupy him for hours at a time. But as the danger escalates and her worst fears come to light, she must find the courage to choose between freedom and a love more liberating than she imagined possible.

I love Misty Beeler books and have had the honor if reading most of them. Courage in the Mountain Wilderness is another awesome read from Beeler. This is Caleb and Otskai’s story, and it is nothing but intriguing and interesting. Otskai is a strong and determined woman and enjoys her new freedom as a widow. She has been able to find a chore that has enabled her to provide. For she and her small.son well. And Caleb is one of my favorite characters with his caring heart. Ms. Beeler creates characters that are loveable and believable and the quickly stole my heart once again. The hardships these people faced on their journey is horrific, but they all do their part to help survive. It aways amazes me how Beeler comes up with such details in her stories. Taking her characters into the most horrific side of mountain and wilderness life. And this book is no different. I enjoyed learning more about this part of the world through her stories. If you haven’t read one of Misty Beeler’s books you don’t know what you are missing. This is a great one to start with.

Mom Guilt—it’s real, no matter what your race or tribe.

One of the things I love about writing the Call of the Rockies series is the cast of characters that covers almost more races than I can count on all my fingers! From Spaniards, to Frenchman, to Southern Americans, to Blackfoot, to Nez Perce, to Salish, to Shoshone. And let’s not talk about the various sectors within some of the tribes (Peigan Blackfoot, Blood Blackfoot, Pikunin of the Nez Perce…oops, we weren’t going to talk about those!).

But what I love the most about so many people groups represented is learning how much we really are alike, down deep in our cores! Sure, some are introverts, some are extroverts. Some like to swim, some hate to swim. Some like to cook, some like to play with the kids (okay, maybe most like to play with the kids!).

Yet there are common threads that connect us all. As I was writing Courage in the Mountain Wilderness, I discovered a new thread that I have in common with Otskai, the Nez Perce hero of the story.

Mom guilt.

Yep. Our situations are a little different—I’m married with four kiddos, and she’s widowed with one very energetic two-year-old son. But we both struggle with that same push and pull. That same set of conflicting longings. When I’m with my kiddos, sometimes I just desperately want time alone. Time to actually get things done. But then at night when they snuggle close at bedtime, wrapping their sweet arms around my neck and not just saying, but showing, how much they love me, I can’t imagine how I could ever want to do anything but spend time with these sweet little ones God has trusted me with.

Thus, the guilt.

Maybe Otskai and I are the only ones who’ve ever experienced that particular strain of Mom Guilt. But I’ll bet there are other ways you can relate—both to these very real fictional characters who may or may not be the same race as you. And also to the very real real-life characters you meet every day.

The great news is that God loves each and every one of us, Mom Guilt and all.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I don’t know how author Misty M Beller comes up with the mountain living stories she writes but she does, and she has written another winner in Faith’s Mountain Home! I love the visit back with some of my favorite characters, plus a few new ones added to the mix. This story takes up after Laura and Samuel were kidnapped and found. Nate Long has been looking after his brother Aaron since the shooting, with little help from Aaron. Nate also has an attraction for Laura that he just can’t shake. And how can this twisted tale ever make sense?

I love, love this story. Nate and Laura are such interesting and flawed characters and I love the attraction between the two. It’s true that this book is a little more laid back than the first two, not as much action going one but I love it just as well. Laura was a good fit for the clinic, and having to deal with Aaron and his attitude was difficult, but she handles it well and even reaches out to him. Nate is my favorite though, he’s such a sweet caring person but I did get frustrated at him for letting his brother’s attitude bring him down, and especially for working so hard to pay Aaron’s part of the restitution. I always love the way Ms. Beller weaves such strong faith in the Lord in the lives of her characters. I sure hope we see more from these characters and this series. I give this one Five Stars and wish I could give it more.

Who doesn’t love a good cave?

Well, maybe not everyone, but I have to confess, I love exploring!

While there aren’t many caves near my South Carolina home, I’ve always loved the idea of finding an opening hidden in the rocks. Then venturing in and finding a huge cavern filled with stalactites and stalagmites and a host of other beauties I can’t pronounce!

And dark tunnels? As long as I have a light and a string to unravel as I go so I can get back out, I’m game!

Misty-2-226x300

Unfortunately, I’ve never found a large cave in real life that had never been explored, but in Faith’s Mountain Home, Nate and Laura found exactly that! Although…turns out, it had been discovered by someone already. I won’t give you (too many) spoilers, but let me just tell you there’s a precocious Native American girl involved, and a few other things not so delightful.

Misty-3-225x300

The good news is, you can enjoy the story without actually entering the pitch black cavern!

Last summer, I had the opportunity to tour a cave with many features like Nate and Laura discovered in their hidden cave. The Caverns of Sonora in Sonora, Texas was a fantastic experience! As you can imagine, it’s hard to get good pictures in solid darkness, but here are a few of the amazing formations still growing in those two miles of underground tunnels.

About the Book

Book:  Light in the Mountain Sky

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre:  Christian Historical Romance

Release Date: September 29, 2020

Light in the Mountain Sky (1)

This epic journey may seal her fate forever.

Determined to prove her worth, Meksem fiercely fought to earn her place among the warriors in her Nez Perce camp. When her half-sister is captured by an enemy tribe, she refuses to trust the rescue to anyone else. But her new friends insist on joining her mission, and she battles between relief and frustration at their presence. Especially the white man who peers at her as if he can see through the face of the warrior she struggles so hard to maintain.

Spaniard Adam Vargas thrives on adventure wherever his travels take him. He’s fallen in love with this Rocky Mountain wilderness, as well as the spotted horses the Nez Perce tribe raise. His fascination with this Indian maiden-turned-warrior catches him off guard though, including the way she seems to be fighting for more than her sister’s safe return.

The journey proves more perilous than any of the group expects, and the secret Meksem hides becomes impossible to conceal. If they live through this mission, the life they knew will never be the same again.

From a USA Today bestselling author comes another epic journey through breathless landscapes and intense adventure.

My Thoughts On This Book

I am always happy to read and review another book from Misty Beller. I have grown to love her Mountain people and their way of life. “Light in the Mountain Sky” is book three in the series so it was so nice to meet with this group of people again, to travel with them through the treacherous journey again as the look for the sister of Meksem and others who were kidnapped by the Blackfoot indian tribe.

I love love this story. The characters are just the best. They play their parts perfectly, and as always, I am amazed at the knowledge of Meksem, Adam, Bever Tail and his sweet wife as they travel. Misty Beller definitely does her research well in writing these amazing stories. And I looked up Camas before I read Misty’s note to see what it was, since this seemed to be most of their food on the trail.

One of the things I love about Misty’s books, including this one is the Romance lurking behind the scenes for much of the story while the couple tries to figure out what’s going on! I can’t really pick a favorite character in this one. I really like Meksem determined personality. And I love Adam’s quiet sweet ways, yet he had the warrior personality as well. And Bever Tail and his wife have been my favorites in the series. Another thing I love is the faith element running throughout the story. It nice to witness other characters coming to faith because of the actions of their friends. And it’s done in such a subtle way that it won’t offend. If you love historical stories, stories involving Indians, snowy mountain trail, this is a story you don’t want to miss!!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

More from Misty

Early Nez Perce Business Women

As I’ve been researching for my current Call of the Rockies series, I’ve had the pleasure of diving deep into the culture of the Nez Perce tribe. I found it interesting that one of the primary food sources of The People (as they called themselves) was camas roots.

But what really drew my notice was how the women would cultivate entire fields of camas root, store what they needed for their family through the winter, then use the extras for bartering. Some savvy women would become quite wealthy from their business dealings!

The bulbs of the camas plant are full of calories and nutrients, and each fall, Nez Perce families would travel to their particular camas meadow (a section of land whose camas rights had probably been passed down from generation to generation within their family). Many of these meadows were located near present-day Weippe, Moscow or Grangeville, where the onion-shaped bulbs grew thickly.

Women used pointed wooden tools to harvest the bulbs, and could often gather over 50 pounds a day, satisfying their full winter’s supply within just a few days.

Native American peoples who ate camas include the Nez Perce (Nimíipuu), Cree, Coast Salish, Kalapuya, and Blackfoot, and Yakama, among many others. Not all of these people groups harvested camas themselves. Instead, many relied on trade in order to procure it. Trade networks were established all the way from the Rockies to the Pacific Ocean, and a shrewd businesswoman who tended her camas meadows well could provide everything her family needed and more!

Book:  Love’s Mountain Quest

Author: Misty M Beller

Genre:  Historical romance

Release Date: June 30, 2020

After losing her husband in the Rocky Mountain wilderness, young widow Joanna Watson is struggling to make a new home for her five-year-old son, Samuel, in the little mountain town of Settler’s Fort. When she returns home from work to find Samuel and the woman watching him missing–and the sheriff dead–she enlists a man she prays has enough experience in this rugged country to help.

Isaac Bowen wants nothing more than a quiet, invisible life in these mountains, far away from the bad decisions of his past. But he has a strong suspicion of who’s behind the kidnapping and murder, and if he’s right, he knows all too well the evil they’re chasing.

As they press on against the elements, Joanna fights to hold on to hope, while Isaac knows a reckoning is coming. They find encouragement in the tentative trust that grows between them, but whether it can withstand the danger and coming confrontation is far from certain in this wild, unpredictable land.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Wow just when I think author Misty M Beller has written her best book, she comes up with one even better. Joanna Watson lost her husband in the Rocky Mountain wilderness this book is set in. The wilderness is a very hard life, especially for a widow and her small son. And when her son and babysitter went missing, Joanna will do anything in her power to get them back.

As I read this book, I thought of how people in today’s world would go crazy because of the time it take to do anything in this wilderness. It doesn’t take minutes or hours, or takes days and weeks. You would really need to trust the Lord and put all of your faith in Him. This is the only way I would have made it through what Joanna went through. And I am so glad she had Issac to help her because he knows these mountains. Issac and Joanna together is so sweet. They just have to get together after all of this. I thoroughly enjoyed another journey through this wilderness country. Different characters and different settings, but the same country land, rocks and mountains. I’m not going to keep going on this because I won’t spoil it for anyone.

If you enjoy the Rocky Mountain territory back in the 1800’s you might want to try some books like this or more from Misty M Beller. They are well worth your time. I love them and I am so thankful to Celebrate Lit for introducing me to Misty several years ago.

The Story Behind the Story: Love’s Mountain Quest

Love’s Mountain Quest was one of the hardest books I’ve ever written, even though I LOVE Isaac and Joanna and their story. What made this book so hard was the fact that I wrote most of the story during my third trimester of pregnancy with our son!

Internet_20200729_204314_4

Our little Matthew is our fourth baby (and first boy), so I was VERY heavy with child during the last three months I carried him, and that was the time that I’d scheduled to write Love’s Mountain Quest. Needless to say, the words were not flowing very well. My creativity was as exhausted as the rest of me! I could see Isaac and Joanna’s story in my mind, but showing it for readers using real words was the hard part.

Thankfully, I have an amazing editor at Bethany House (waving at Jen Veilleux!) who helped me massage the first draft, pushing both me and the story to be the very best we could be. Unfortunately for her, the edits for this book were the first bit of writing I did after taking a short maternity leave after the birth, so my brain was still a bit mushy from all the post-partum hormones and lack of sleep a newborn always brings. Jen’s patience through the process was remarkable, yet I so appreciate her determination not to stop until we had the very best book possible.

Our little Matthew just turned one, and Love’s Mountain Quest is finally making its way out into the world. Because of Jen, I’m so excited to share it with you! I can’t wait for you to meet the characters and story I love so much.

Mountain Man meme3

  • Back cover

  • Leah Townsend, a recently orphaned heiress, flees Richmond after discovering her fiancé’s plot to kill her after their wedding. She needs a safe place to hide, and finds herself accepting a newspaper marriage proposal from a God-fearing young rancher in the Montana Territory. But when Leah arrives at the mountain ranch, she learns her intended husband was killed by a grizzly, leaving behind a bitter older brother and a spunky younger sister. When Gideon Bryant finds an eastern lady standing in his log cabin, his first thought is to send her back where she came from. He’s lost too many people to the wild elements of these mountains––his parents, his wife, and now his brother. His love for this untamed land lives on, but he’s determined not to open his heart to another person. But when an accident forces Leah to stay at the ranch for seven more months, can Gideon protect his heart from a love he doesn’t want? Has Leah really escaped the men who seek her life?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Rich girl answers mail order bride add makes for an intriguing story. And as Misty Beller for the author, I knew this one would be a most fantastic read. And it certainly was!!

After her father passed away, Leah Townsend fears for her life and ends up answering a mail order Bride ad she sees while looking for a job. But upon her arrival to the Montana Territory, finds her soon to be husband lost his battle with a grizzly. Her plans altered finds her staying in Montana for an extended time. Thankfully she gets along with Mariam, the sister because the brother of her intended was so filled with anger and bitterness because of loosing the people he loves to this land that he loves. There is no way he wants to even get to know anyone else he may loose.

Another amazing read from author Misty Beller. She writes these ‘life in the rough mountains’ stories like no one else. I love these Montana characters she has created. Abd I love that Leah found people she could love as family. Her entire journey was interesting, and especially her trip to the ranch with ‘ol Mose. He was truly my favorite character. Leah spends a good amount of time with him as they make their way to the ranch. And I loved every minute of it. He reminded me so much of my grandaddy! And after she is at the Bryant Ranch, I enjoyed watching the growth of each character as the story unfolds. I loved reading the details of Montana in the 1800’s, and the beauty of the land. There is really nothing I didn’t like about this story.

One other thing I was impressed with is the way Leah fully trusted God with her life, and how she used her Bible as a Roadmap ad to what God wanted for her life. And it’s all in the Misty Beller style, not preachy, just a gentle weaving of the Christian life into the lives of her characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a nice clean read. But the 1800’s Montana living was kind of rough, so if this is enjoyful for you, this read is a must!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

This epic journey is not at all what she expected.

Joel Vargas can’t believe he’s lost his older brother in the wilds of the Rocky Mountains after surviving their harrowing voyage across the Atlantic. And he can’t shake the feeling that Adam—his only living relative—is in dire trouble. No matter what the cost, he and his band of friends won’t stop until Adam is found. He doesn’t have time to contend with the two Indian women who seem to be shadowing his every move.

After the devastating loss of her daughter and husband to a sickness that swept through their Nez Perce camp, Elan is desperate to find an escape from her grief. As she and her friend journey through the mountains toward the great river, a band of white men is the last thing she expects to find, especially as winter blows in full force.

When the dangers increase, accomplishing Joel’s mission becomes the only hope for all their survival. If the elements don’t consume them, Elan has a feeling life will never be the same for any of them.

From a USA Today bestselling author comes another epic journey through breathless landscapes and intense adventure.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Hope in the Mountain River continues from  the first book in the Call of the Rockies Series. Joel is still in search if his brother, as the group continues their journey through the dangerous Rocky Mountains. Again they are faced with so many dangers, but struggle to keep going. I was happy to see the characters from the first book again, especially Beaver Tail and his white woman wife. Though we read about all of the characters as they journey, this book focuses more on Joel, and Elan, sweet Elan.

Again Misty Beller so expertly pens a story that will grip the hearts of her readers. Just when I think she just can’t get any better, this story is even better than her last one. I love the returning characters as well as the new ones we meet in this book. And I am amazed how this author can take the same characters on the same journey as her last book, and find so many different scenes to write about. And I especially appreciate the way faith in the Lord is written in the lives of some of the characters, and in such a subtle way, it seems so real. I can not wait to read book three in this series. Ms. Beller left us with just enough suspense to make us want to continue this series.

I highly recommend this book, and especially if you love this genre. And even though this book can be read a stand alone, you will enjoy it more reading them in order. And I highly recommend this author as well. Check out all of her book, you just can’t go wrong with any of them.

More from Misty

I’ve always been a horse lover, and was blessed to grow up on a farm. My brother and I each had ponies of our own and rode hours each day. When we were old enough to graduate to full-size horses, we met neighbors who also had horses and loved to ride together. The two mares they rode had a mottled black and white spotted look, which I knew to be part of the Appaloosa breed. Through hears of riding together, I developed a deep appreciation for those two Appaloosa horses, as well as respect for the entire breed! Those two mares proved they could outrun and outlast any of the other horses in our riding group.

I’ve long wanted to include Appaloosas in one of my stories, especially since the breed was said to have begun in the Nez Perce tribe who lived just west of the Rocky Mountains. I’m so excited for you to meet Elan, the heroine in Hope in the Mountain River!

Elan and her friend are traveling through the Rockies on their Appaloosa horses, animals who can ride faster and longer than all the other horses in their group—even through the treacherous terrain of the Rocky Mountains!

I pray you love this story as much as I loved writing it. Enjoy a glimpse of the famous Appaloosa horse!

About the Book

Book: Freedom in the Mountain Wind

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release Date: January 14, 2020

The last epic journey before her life changes forever.

Susanna Wilkins will do amything to make her father’s final dream come true, including trek along the path Lewis and Clark explored into the untamed wilds of the Rocky Mountains. Every mile is more crucial now that lung cancer is stealing Pa’s last days faster than she can come to terms with losing him. The journey becomes harder than she ever expected, but paddling upriver through fierce rapids and fighting hungry grizzlies isn’t what terrifies her the most.

Beaver Tail endured more than he can stand from the women in his Blackfoot camp, but the last disaster gave him the final shove he needed to join this band of brothers searching for one of their group who’s gone missing. The last thing he expected was to find a white woman and her sick father stranded at the base of massive waterfall. His plan is to help them carry their oversize canoe and supplies, then leave them to their strange mission. Yet, the more he learns about the pair, the more he realizes his life is about to be derailed—again.

From a USA Today bestselling author comes another epic journey through breathless landscapes and adventure so intense, lives will never be the same.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I am so happy and honored that I could read and review the starting of this new series by Misty Beller. I love her books, and have read them all! In Freedom in the Mountain Wind, we follow Susanna Wilkins as she honors her Pa’s one last dream of exploring the wilds of the Rocky Mountains going the same route as Lewis and Clark. But would they be able to finish this fantastic but dangerous trip?

This was one of my favorite books that Ms. Beller has written. It is such a sweet and heartwarming story. The love between Susanna and her Pa runs so deep, it was a real pleasure reading the experience through the vivid descriptions. The characters in this story are such an amazing group, willing to help in every way, making them seem so realistic. Misty Beller does a phonomial job of researching the facts and then writing this story. The vivid descriptions of the exquisite scenes along the way makes this book one of the most colorful discriptive stories I’ve read. I’m not sure how I would survive in those wild Rocky Mountains, I’m not much for the wild animals and the food, but I would sure love to see the beautiful scenery. There is so much going on, so many emotions to deal with, so much work to be done to survive. And all of the guys were amazing, but Beaver Tail is my favorite. His knowledge of the land, his personality, sweet heart, all drew him to me more than the others. And I appreciate the way the author weaves in the Gospel, explains how to become a Christian, but does it in a subtle sweet way. If you enjoy a good clean, exciting, story within the wild Rocky Mountain trails, you will love this one!!

When God Directs a Google Search…

I’m a history lover, but you may have guessed that since I write historical romance stories. 😊 Most of my books are set in the Rocky Mountains during the mid-1800s, but as I began brainstorming ideas for this new series, my heart became drawn earlier to the earlier part of the century—a time period with which I wasn’t quite as familiar with the history.

I love when God orchestrates even the most mundane part of our lives, including Google searches! During one particular search (I can’t even remember what I was originally looking for), I stumbled across part of a journal entry from the Lewis and Clark expedition, which trekked across Montana during the time period I was looking into. I’d forgotten that expedition had even entered the territory that would later become Montana, but now I was fascinated.

After finding an audiobook of the abridged journals of Lewis and Clark, I happily listened to almost 19 hours of fascinating stories from the Corp of Exploration’s journey up the Missouri River and across the mountains to the Pacific Ocean, then back mostly the over the same path they’d come. The stories the men told were so amazing, and the detail of their trials so absorbing, I’ve actually re-listened to the audiobook twice! Many of the true tales wouldn’t be believable in fiction, but as I listened, my mind formed the premise for Freedom in the Mountain Wind: a father/daughter duo who sets out almost two decades after Lewis and Clark’s journey, determined to retrace the steps of that famous expedition.

I hope you enjoy this story as much as I loved writing it! And whether you’re a history lover or not, I pray that you too will be touched by this “epic journey through breathless landscapes and adventure so intense, lives will never be the same.”

About the Book

Hopes-Highest-Mountain-662x1024

Book: Hope’s Highest Mountain

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre: Historical Romance

Release Date: October, 2019

My Rating 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

When Ingrid Chastain agreed to accompany her father to deliver vaccines to a mining town in the Montana Territory, she never could have anticipated a terrible accident would leave her alone and badly injured in the wilderness. Rescue comes in the form of a mysterious mountain man who tends her injuries, but she’s hesitant to put her trust in this man who seems to have wounds of his own.

After tragedy struck his family, Micah Bradley left his work as a doctor and escaped to the wilds of Montana. But his self-imposed solitude is broken when he finds Ingrid in desperate need of medical attention, and he’s forced to call on his doctoring skills once again.

Micah can’t help but admire Ingrid’s tenacity despite the severity of her injuries, until he learns the crate she brought contains smallpox vaccines to help quell a nearby outbreak. With Ingrid dead set on delivering the medicine–with or without his help–he has no choice but to accompany her. As they set off through the treacherous, snow-covered Rocky Mountains against all odds, the journey ahead will change their lives more than they could have known.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Ingrid Chastain loved helping her father take care of his patients, so when he was ask to bring small pox vaccines to a mining town in the Montana Territory, she went along with him. But she never realized the harshness of the trip ahead of them. After a horrific accident leaving her alone to die, Ingrid was found by Micah Bradley, who lives in these dangerous mountains.

After reading Arthur Misty Beller’s last series, I was excited to read book one in her “Hearts of Montana” series. And Hope’s Highest Mountain has all of the wonderful characteristics of Ms. Beller’s writing. From the first page, I was pulled into this story from every side. When Micah found Ingrid, his doctoring skills were put to the test, and all through the story my heart went out to him because of the sadness of his past. And as usual, Misty Beller takes readers through so many twists and turns in this story, and just when you think nothing else can possibly happen to these two characters, she throws something else at them that seems impossible to deal with. My heart was in shambles several times as I read this book, and I really was afraid for all of the characters involved. And I love the ending. Someway, Ms. Beller weaves it all together and creates an ending I wasn’t  expecting.

If you enjoy stories set in the historical Montana Mountains, this is am awesome one for you to read. And you will love the beautiful cover of this book as well. And I can’t  leave out the way this author weaves the Christian life into the characters everyday lives. This is a book you sure don’t want to miss.

More from Misty

Remember Lassie? Old Yeller? Chance and Shadow from the movie Homeward Bound? There was something about these dogs that gripped my heartstrings and made me love them as though I’d known them for years. (And, yes, I cried during every one of these movies and books.)

Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had real dogs I’ve loved too. As far back as I can remember, we’ve had at least one or two dogs, and each one has been my very best friend. They’ve suffered my undying love, even allowing me to dress them up like dolls during my younger years.

But the dogs in my stories have a special place in my heart. Handsome, the sweet little black fluffball in Hope’s Highest Mountain is no exception! He was the runt of the litter, and such a dark black that the story’s hero nicknamed him Shadow. You can see the picture that inspired Handsome at the book’s Pinterest page. Those eyes! Hard not to fall in love, right?

The more I wrote in the story, the more I enjoyed getting to know this little guy, and I could almost feel his soft puppy fur as he snuggled in close. I completely see why Ingrid (the heroine) is smitten him! As you read Hope’s Highest Mountain, I hope you love Handsome as much as I do. Please give him some extra petting for me! ?

This Healing Journey by Misty Beller

About the Book

This-Healing-Journey-Cover-665x1024

Book: This Healing Journey

Author: Misty M Beller

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release date: July 18, 2019

The mountain wilderness of her family’s home in the Canadian Rockies is all Hannah Grant has ever known. Now at the age of twenty-four, she’s on a journey to help her father to find the son he gave up for adoption three decades before. This is Hannah’s chance to discover the life she’s missed out on so far—and hopefully find a husband along the way. But she certainly doesn’t plan to fall for the first man she meets.

Years in the Calvary provided Nathaniel Peak with more than his share of violence and adventure. That life behind him, he wants nothing more than to settle down in the beautiful Montana mountains and raise his own stock—in peace. The last thing he expects is the savagely wounded child who shows up in his barn. Nor the woman he comes to rely on for the girl’s care.

Hannah can’t help but fall in love with the brave Indian child who so desperately needs her, but no matter what, she can’t let herself fall for the man whose past choices go against everything she believes in. As the situation grows worse, Hannah and Nathaniel are forced to make a heart-rending decision to save the girl’s life. Little do they imagine, the choice they make could spell disaster for them all.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

What a beautiful ending to this series! I am truly going to miss the anticipation of another book in the Heart of the Mountain series. This book is Nathanial and Hannah’s story. And just as the other books in the series, author Misty Beller does an amazing job of creating a cast of characters and placing them in the perfect setting as you follow them on this horrific journey through the wilderness of the Canidian Rockies.

I love Nathanial and Hannah. And the tenderness in taking care of this precious child. But Hannah tries to guard her emotions because she can’t fall in love with someone like Nathanial. Check out this amazing read for many hours of enjoyment. I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I did. And don’t forget to check out all of the other books in this series. You don’t want to miss reading then all.

A copy of this book was given to me by the author or publisher. I am not required to write a positive review. The opinions here in this review are totally mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

More from Misty

Occasionally I hear readers debate about whether they prefer to read a series of books from an author, or only standalone novels. Personally, I love series—both reading and writing them. There’s something about seeing characters I know and love from past books that makes me warm and happy inside. Can you relate?

One of the first series I wrote, the Mountain Dreams Series, included five books that told the stories of several families intertwined through marriage and God’s connections. Those characters are still so dear to my heart! When book 5 ended, I had so many readers ask for more in the series, I began dreaming of a spin-off series with a very special connection to the hero in book 5. Enter: the Heart of the Mountains Series.

I’ve LOVED every story in this 7-book collection, taking each journey with the characters as I laughed and cried and uncovered their secrets. For the final 7th book, I’m thrilled to announce that I’m reuniting many of the characters from BOTH series! Simeon Grant (from Heart of the Mountains, book 1) goes on a journey to find the son he gave up for adoption as an infant (the hero in Mountain Dreams, book 5).

This Healing Journey has its own leading lady, Hannah Grant (the baby born at the end of This Treacherous Journey, all grown up and as tough as any lady raised in the Canadian mountain wilderness). And a new character, Nathaniel Peak, who stars as the hero (and who I fell in love with IMMEDIATELY!).

Even if you’ve never read any of my stories, I think you’ll enjoy this one. Especially if you love adventurous mountain stories as much as I do!

This Daring Journey by Misty Beller

About the Book

This Daring Journey

Book: This Daring Journey

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release Date: March 26, 2019

As a half-Indian raised among her Peigan tribe, Moriah Clark knows better than to trust white people. The tragedy that resulted in her birth is proof enough. But when her trusted grandfather marries her to a white man, she has no choice to but to obey and hope this new life isn’t her downfall. Her white husband turns out to be a decent sort, but his unexpected death left her to birth a newborn baby among hostile mountain men. She wants nothing more than to retreat to the safe haven of her tribal upbringing. When a mysterious frontiersman arrives on her doorstep seeking her deceased husband, his offer to escort her and the babe to her people seems like the opportunity she’s been praying to find. But can she trust him?

Samuel Grant has been sent to retrieve Henry Clark for his sister’s wedding, but the sight that greets him at the little cabin in the woods is not what he expected. Not only has the man died, but Henry’s wife is fighting off an aggressive gang of men at gunpoint—while trying to conceal a newborn. He can’t leave the pair unattended, so helping her travel into the mountain country to reach her family seems like the only option. If he can win her trust, that is.

Such a grueling journey with a three-week-old baby will be risky, but the challenges that arise test them far more than either expected. When a devastating surprise increases the danger ten-fold, Moriah focuses all her efforts on keeping her newborn daughter alive. Maybe that’s why she doesn’t realize how much of her heart belongs to the mountain man—until it’s too late.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Misty Beller was a new author for me whenI reviewed the first book in this series and I fell in love with her writing! And this 6th book in the Heart of the Mountain Series in my favorite on yet! Moriah Grant has been living in her cabin with her newborn baby for months after her husband passed away, but how much more can she take of these horrible mountain men trying to take her home. When Samuel Grant arrives with a message for her husband from his sister, Moriah decides she can trust him to help her and her newborn baby.

I love, love this story set in the Canadian Winter Wilderness. Misty Beller creates another cast of characters that quickly find their way into my heart very early in the story. Moriah is a determined woman ready to take on whatever she needs to do to survive. Samuel Grant wants nothing more than to help Moriah and her baby journey their way through the harsh wilderness to find her family. Even though the trip through the cold snowy wearther was harsh, I thoroughly enjoyed the journey with Samuel, Moriah and Cherry! I love the tender way Samuel was with Cherry, he had her spoiled after a few days. I also love the interaction between Samuel and Moriah. Even though they’ve couldn’t see it, or wouldn’t admit it, I could see early on that they were formig an attraction to each other.

There is so much going on in this book, but the plot always flows nicely and Ms. Beller kept on the edge of my seat most of the time and I could put the book down. In fact it took me less than a day to read “This Daring Journey!” Another thing I like an appreciate is how the author weaves the Christian life into her characters. By the end of the story, I feel like Moriah and Samuel are my friends, and it feels like I’m living the story with them! I highly recommend this book!

How did I get started writing?

I’ve always loved to read, but several years ago I was putting together my bucket list, and realized that I really did want to write a novel. So, “Write a novel that’s published” made it near the top!

I decided, it’s now or never, and made the commitment to do it. So, I had a general idea that I wanted it to be a Christian historical western romance. But where to start? I finally decided I needed to find a good book to help me plan. I stumbled upon (a.k.a. God led me to) the best possible book to help me get started with a great plan: Plot and Structure by James Scott Bell. For all you writers out there, I can’t recommend it highly enough!

From there, I’ve soaked in every bit of writing instruction I can from some amazing groups and individuals. And I’ve spent countless hours sitting with my laptop pouring out words onto the screen. Writing is in my blood. It’s my passion. A true gift from my Heavenly Father, and I pray daily that he uses the words for His purpose.

About the Book

This Homeward Journey

Title:

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre: Christian historical romance

Release date: January 1, 2019

After her husband’s death, Rachel Gray is finally free from the turmoil his addictions caused. She wants nothing more than a new life with her twelve-year-old son. If she can reach her brother in the wilderness of the Canadian territories, they’ll have help to start over in peace. She knows better than to put her life in the hands of another man, but she never expected the Montana mountains to be so treacherous. When two brothers invite her to join their small group traveling to the same area, she refuses. After she and her son narrowly escape a bear attack, she’s forced to admit they need the safety of numbers in this untamed land. If the men prove dangerous, she can always leave with her son and strike out alone again.

Seth Grant has made some bad choices in his life, but God healed him from the addiction that mired him in his sins. Now, he’s determined to live the life God called him to, starting with a journey northward to see the Canadian mountain both his brother and sister have fallen in love with. When he discovers the woman and boy who plan to travel the same mountain trail, he can’t fathom why she refuses to join in the safety of their larger group. Though her decision seems unwise, he has no other choice but to pray God provides her protection.

Despite Rachel’s best efforts, she can’t seem to fight her attraction to the Seth—until a secret from his past proves he’s not at all the man she thought. When a new peril threatens her son’s life, she must choose between trusting in what she can control, or the man who her heart says is trustworthy, no matter his previous sins. The path she chooses just may determine whether she can step into the new life God has in store for them all.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

As I have followed author Misty Beller’s Heart of the Mountain series in book 5, I am finding that this book is just as intense as the first 4 books! Getting to know more of the Grant siblings, twins this time, Thr characters of Seth and Samuel.

Rachel Gray finally decides to  make it to her brothers place located in the wilderness of the Canadian territories, she knows they will have help to start over. But never did she imagine it wouldn’t be so difficult.  After refusing their offers once, and after making sure she trails them and checks them out, and after she narrowly escape a bear attack, thanks to her son and  no thanks to Rachel, she decides to take them up their offer for help. But Rachel was still determined to make their own way.

With characters still as stubborn and determined as before, Misty Beller takes readers on another heartbreaking and at the same time heartwarming journey through the heart if the Canadian Mountains with the wilderness taking its tile on those traveling through. In all five of her books, Ms. Beller has readers on the edge of their seats, and this one is no different. From the deepest of the mountain snows, to the animals living in that wild territory, you will find yourself amazed at what happens next in this adventurous story. You don’t want to miss out on this next book in The Heart of the Mountain Series by this amazing author.

Guest Post from Misty

Why Christian Historical Romance?

I don’t know about you, but my life can get crazy…busy…chaotic. Historical fiction gives me a haven, allowing me to immerse in a simpler time and place. Add in remote mountain settings—log cabins and horses and snow…what could be better? Sometimes I wish God had let me live a couple centuries ago, but then I remind myself He knew exactly what He was doing. I don’t do well without a shower every day. 😊 And He even lets me go back to that simpler time through stories!

If you’re reading this, you probably enjoy immersing yourself in a good book, too. Story can be such a powerful thing! Becoming an intimate part of the characters’ lives, feeling their struggles—the desperation, the elation, the emotions, the love.

I enjoy reading and writing Christian fiction because it provides a place where I don’t always have to be concerned about inappropriate language or too-graphic love scenes. It’s a “safe zone” where my imagination can escape, living out exciting times and experiencing God-orchestrated happily-ever-afters—without having to clean-up at the end of the day. Can you relate?

I’m excited to share my latest Christian Historical Romance story with you, and hope you enjoy it as much as I loved writing it!

This Courageous Journey

Book Title: This Courageous Journey

Author: Misty Beller

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release date: October 9, 2018

As the fifth daughter in a family of nine children, Noelle Grant has spent her life working to be unique. Her love of stories helps define her goal—to be known around the country as one of the top news correspondents of her time. And what better way to uncover sensational stories than to travel through the mountain wilderness to visit the brother she hasn’t seen in years? The trip comes together perfectly as she plans to journey with family friends who will be settling in the same area. Her first inkling that things may not be as perfect as planned comes in the form of the mountain man they hire  as their guide for the final leg of the journey.

When Daniel Abrams agrees to guide the small group of easterners along his usual journey northward to the Canadian mountains, his gut tells him he’s making the wrong decision. But if he doesn’t take them, who will? The man in charge refuses to consider turning back. As they start out, Daniel can’t help but notice the woman traveling under the care of her friends. Though she appears too genteel to last long in these mountains, she soon reveals a strength that draws him more than he should allow.

As the dangers of this wilderness become more than the group bargained for, Noelle is faced with the choice to delay her journey northward or proceed alone with the man she’s come to trust against all reason. She never imagines her decision will place her—and the man she loves—in a situation more hazardous than any story her imagination could conjure.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This Courageous Journey  is the fourth amazing book in the Heart of the Mountain Series by Misty Beller. And Miss Beller’s Writing just keeps getting better and better. Join Ms. Beller as she takes you on another journey though the beautiful Canadian mountains.

Through her love of stories, Noelle Grant decides to visit her brother. Hehr brother that lives in the Canadian mountains wilderness. This journey should sure give her some stories to write about! And a Trapper in this wilderness, Daniel Abrams agrees to guide the small group of easterners along his usual journey, but this time, the journey was a very difficult one for everyone. After they have traveled a long bit, some choose to stay at a small fort the group has stopped at. Both Noelle and Daniel face challenges that make them wonder where they will end up on this journey. This is truly a book that the characters need to trust God for their every move. I love that Ms. Beller weaves the Christian life, trusting God in all of our situations and just depending on God for everything.

And I’m not really one to give away a lot of the plot, so I’ll just encourage you to pick this book up and read it! You will fall in love with these characters, just as I did. And you will be pulled into this amazing story more and more as the story goes on. I hope this is not the end of this series! I would love to read more of these Canadian Wilderness stories!!

Ever Been Struck by Lightning?

One of the fun things about being a writer is the crazy topics I get to research. Without giving away too much of the story, part of my research for This Courageous Journeyincluded uncovering what happens when lightning strikes a person. It turns out anything can happen!

Surprisingly, about nine out of ten people struck by lightning live to tell their story. Each person’s experience seems to be different—some are knocked unconscious, while others are horribly aware of everything happening. One person who was struck said it seemed as if time slowed to a crawl and a white haze surrounded him like a bubble, as excruciating pain shot through him.

People usually try to determine the path the lightning traveled through them, based on where burn marks appear on both skin and clothing, but sometimes that can be difficult if jewelry or coins were touching the body. Survivors might suffer a variety of short- and long-term effects, including—but not limited to—cardiac arrest, confusion, seizures, dizziness, muscle aches, deafness, headaches, memory deficits, distractibility, personality changes, and chronic pain, among others. That may sound like an awful list, but it does beat the alternative!

As I considered the possible effects of a lightning strike when I was writing This Courageous Journey, I was reminded once again how magnificent God’s creation is. Both the incredible power contained in one streak of lightning, and the beautiful inner workings of the bodies He created for us. As the Psalmist said, we are “fearfully and wonderfully made!”

About the Book

Title: This Freedom Journey

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release Date: July 11, 2018

This Freedom JourneyAdrien Lockman is through with the political unrest and bloodshed in his home country of France, so he sets off to the Canadian territory’s mountain frontier, in search of a place where a man can live his own life in peace. The last thing he expects to find is a woman, half-starved and half-frozen in a shack nestled among the towering peaks of the great Rocky Mountains.

Mary Standish thought she’d finally found a place where she was accepted, trapping with her husband for the Hudson Bay Company. But when he dies after a gruesome grizzly fight, she determines to carry on their work. After all, life in these remote mountains is better than enduring the scorn and snubs of “civilized” folk. When she’s forced to face a winter harder than any she’s endured yet, her stubbornness may just be the death of her. Until a stranger appears at her ramshackle door.

Adrien had planned to explore the mountain country all winter before he settles down to build a farm in the spring, but he can’t leave this woman to die in the elements. Even though she seems desperate for him to go. As Mary regains strength, she’s torn between wanting to save her dignity, and craving the respect of this man who’s slipped past her defenses. As the winter worsens, the truth becomes all too real—the only way they’ll survive is together.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

As Adrien Lockman explores the mountain country of the Canadian Rockies in the middle of a horrific blizzard, he finds himself at a shack where a woman lives, sick, half starved and half frozen. Glad to find shelter, Adrien goes to work building a fire and cooking food that will sustain the lady until he can make more provisions. Though his plan is to keep exploring, there is no way he can leave this woman alone. But will she trust him enough to let him stay, but what choice does she have?

I really enjoyed Adrien and Mary’s story. And though Mary was in pretty bad condition when Adrien found her, he underestimated her strength and determination. Mary was quite able to take care of herself. Or so she thought. But without Adrien’s caring for her, she could have very well lost her life.

Ms. Beller does a fantastic job of describing the scenes of the Canadian mountains lifestyle. Not many people around to help, so the journey to find help was treacherous, especially in the middle of the winter. A lifestyle I don’t think I could handle. But I love reading about these mountain people who have chosen this journey.

That’s all I want to say about this book, to say more would give too much of he plot away. This is the third book in the Heart of the Mountain series by Misty Beller. I strongly encourage you to check out this entire series. And this book, ‘This Freedom Journey’ is a Novella so it only takes a couple of hours to read! A Inside Look at the Cover for This Freedom Journey

My book covers are one of my favorite parts of the creative process! With most of my books, I have the cover done early, usually as I’m first brainstorming the story. I love to have the heroine on my cover, and I work hard to make sure the woman on the front matches the heroine I’m envisioning for the story. That way I can describe her in the novel the way she looks on the cover. Sometimes I even work in the outfit she’s wearing on the cover!

This Freedom Journey is a novella in my Heart of the Mountains series, so I wanted the cover to be similar in layout and style to the other books in that series. The setting is winter in the Canadian Rockies, so I knew Mary (the heroine) had to be bundled warmly! Funny story: Mary is mentioned in the other two books, although they’re set later in her life. When I first described her in the other books, I imagined her with amber brown eyes. When I chose the final cover for This Freedom Journey, I had to go back and change the amber brown eyes in those other manuscripts to the riveting blue on the cover. 😊

Title: The Wilderness Journey

Author: Misty M. Beller

Release Date: April 24, 2018

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

He’s been sent to retrieve the new missionary… But she’s not at all who he expects to find.

Joseph Malcom has spent his life protecting those in need, but now that his sister is safely settled with her new family in the Canadian Rockies, his help is no longer required. That is, until he’s asked to safely retrieve the priest’s cousin to help minister to the local Indian tribe. But his passenger is not at all who he expects.

After the death of her mother, Monti Bergeron has nothing to keep her in Montreal. While the prospect of ministering to the Indians out West is daunting, she looks forward to assisting her beloved cousin in his mission work. The life of a nun may be just what she needs to heal her grief, serving her Heavenly Father and fellow mankind, especially if no more pesky suitors are around to ask for her hand in marriage. But the man who’s been sent to guide her through the mountains might make her second-guess her plans before she even begins.

As Monti settles into her ministry, Joseph finds his wandering feet drawn back to the Indian camp. Monti’s focus on God is more unsettling than he’d like to admit. Add to that her beauty which tests his willpower at every turn, and she’s made it crystal clear she doesn’t want a husband. But when his determination to keep distance between them puts Monti in danger, protecting her might require something Joseph might not be able to give.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

When Joseph Malcom was ask my the local priest to go bring his cousin to him to help with the ministry, Joseph certainly wasn’t thinking about the pretty woman he found at the post. Monti Bergeron had no family except her cousin ministering to the local Indians and it was her choice to sell her mothers business in order to fulfill that dream. But she wasn’t sure what she was walking into, and Joseph made up his mind to protect her. But then their feelings got in the way and the tension was far to much for Joseph to bare. His injury left him less than a man, and he couldn’t provide for a woman and family.

This is a beautiful story that captures my attention very early in the story! My heart went out to Joseph because he was so determined to keep his lame hand hidden under a glove to keep everyone from knowing about his damaged his hand. And the story surrounding the way Monti found out about his hand was heartwarming. This is a story set in times that it’s not so easy to live life. There were very few people on the land except Indians and the process of the whites and Indians respecting each other was not an easy one either. I love the way Ms. Beller weaves the characters together with the harsh living conditions and the Indian population together to give readers such a heartwarming story. Each scene was vividly described in detail pulling me into the story throughout the book. For me, this book just ended too soon! I’ve got my eve out for another book in this series!

Guest Post from Misty Beller

The Frontier Cook

I love to write frontier romance, where the challenges were tough and the people had to be even tougher. And one of the things I love to imagine is how my characters cooked during those days.

Can you imagine how hard it would be to cook over an open fire? Every. Single. Meal. Of course, it’s not like they had a lot of variety to work with. Once you learned how to make a decent stew or corn mush, you didn’t have much to worry about, right?

Yet, many of the frontier women became quite adept at cooking over their cabin’s hearth, or even over an open campfire. In my new book, This Wilderness Journey, Monti (the heroine) came from a middle-class home with a paid chef and never had to learn to cook at all, much less without the use of a wood stove (which is still so much harder than heating a hot-pocket in the microwave). After she burned the corn mush their first night on the trail through the Canadian wilderness, Joseph (the hero) taught her a few basic meals.

As I was researching some creative ways frontier women cooked in an open hearth, I discovered the wide use of puddings, mostly because of how easy they were to make. By wrapping the ingredients in a cloth or pudding bag, they could be dropped in a pot of boiling water and left until the ingredients had softened and expanded. An entire meal could be made with a few ingredients, a pudding cloth, and a pot of boiling water.

One of my favorite cooking scenes in This Wilderness Journey is the making of the Oatmeal Pudding. What do you think? Sound like something you’d like to try?
