Book Title: The Christmas Prayer

Author:Wanda E. Brunstetter

Genre:Historical Christmas Romance

Release date: September, 2018

Beloved, bestselling author of Amish fiction, Wanda E. Brunstetter takes readers on a journey in 1850 along the California Trail.

Only the brave—or foolhardy—would attempt a cross-country journey late in the season. Three wagons meet up in Independence, Missouri, in April 1850, and their owners decide to keep forging ahead despite many setbacks and delays. December finds them in the Sierra Nevada Mountains when a sudden snowstorm traps them, obscuring the trail.

Cynthia Cooper is traveling with her mother and the man she has promised to marry. But as Christmas is upon them and they are hunkered down in a small cabin, she is forced to reevaluate her reasons for planning to marry fellow-traveler Walter Prentice. When a widowed father heading to a California ranch and a gold prospector both show an interest in Cynthia, she weighs her dreams for marriage alongside her responsibility to care for her mother. Can love win over her timid heart?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Wanda Brunstetter takes a break from her usual Amish fiction to give her readers a heartwarming historical novella. This story takes place in 1850 and follows a journey across country to California to get rich digging for gold. The larger wagon train leave a week earlier so this one has three wagons. The first occupied by Cole and his sister and Coke was chosen to lead the trail. The second one is a widow with his two small children. And the third one has who is known as Mr. Walter Fancy Pants (and you will find out why the name as you read the story), Cynthia Cooper and her mother. Each person on the trail different, in their own way. And each taking a part in helping along the trail, that is except Walter, who thought he was too good to help. This group started off pretty good but they were hit with obstacles along the way that slowed them down more than they expected. Will they ever get to California?

This is a very sweet and heartwarming story, though I wish it was longer. Ms. Brunstetter does her usual awesome job of creating excellent characters, each scene vividly explained, and an interesting plot that keeps you wanting to find out what is happening next. I really enjoyed this group of characters, that is except Walter. He got on my nerves so much I was hoping the others would kick him out and make him see how hard the others were working.

And I guess that is the main thing I didn’t enjoy about the book. Walter and his attitude. Why didn’t they force him? And well, you will know what I mean when you read the book. And I highly recommend this one to everyone. It’s cover is beautiful, the story is beautiful and it takes an hour or hour and a half at the most to read it. So pick up your copy today. You won’t be disappointed.

Book Title: Priscilla’s Escape

Author: Diane Craver

Genre: Amish Romance, Contemporary

Release date: March 23, 2018

When faith and freedom collide, mistakes made in the past may decide the future.

Twenty-year-old Priscilla King is unsure about joining the Amish Church and wants to use her rumspringa freedom to paint beach landscapes. She’s been offered a two-month-long nanny position in Siesta Key, Florida by an author on a tight writing deadline. The opportunities presented are more than a little tempting for Priscilla, even if it means disappointing her parents and leaving her new boyfriend.

Stephen Hertzler grew up in an Amish family, but, like Priscilla, he’s undecided about joining the church. He loves Priscilla and wants to marry her, though he knows she’s not ready to decide about anything other than her summer plans. His biggest worry is that she’ll meet someone else in Florida and forget him.

When Priscilla’s parents sabotage her part-time job at a local fabric store to dissuade her from following a “worldly lifestyle” in taking the nanny position in Florida, Priscilla is distraught. She knows she would regret not taking this chance. Leaving a note, she sneaks out in disobedience of her parents’ wishes.

Free to paint, dreams she’s never fully envisioned before seem within reach…but at what price?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Priscilla King and Stephen Hertzler are not sure they want to join their Amish faith, no matter how much pressure their parents put on them to join. In fact Priscilla felt so pressured she decided to leave for a trip to Florida in the middle of the night. She had been offered a nanny job, working for two months keeping a young girl while her mom, who is a well known author, finishes her book deadline. Priscilla had ask permission from her parents and they gave her a firm no. As well as telling the store owner Priscilla worked for at the time that she would no longer be available to work. And, as if that wasn’t enough, her dad ban her from her painting for several months in order to focus on the Baptism classes. So no wonder the poor girl took off to Florida without telling anyone.

Priscilla’s Escape is about an Old Order Amish community in which her dad is the Bishop. I like and appreciate the way Ms. Carver describes the way this community or Amish  lays out their rules to live by. And the importance of  young people joining the Amish faith as their parents did at their age. But the Bishop was putting a little bit too much pressure on his daughter causing her to flee. I wonder how many Amish in real life do this same thing? Or do their parents give them the choice of making that decision themselves. So many of the Amish books I have read have displayed fathers to be these really harsh and down right mean people. But I’m glad for the way thisbook ended. The decisions made were fair, and the outcome, which was the end of the book was a pleasant ending to read. And it left me thinking, “Now that’s the way it should be between parents and their children.”

If you enjoy Amish stories, you will enjoy this one. I encourage you to pick up a copy and read it for a few hours of enjoyment and entertainment! A  copy of this book was provided by Celebration Lit Tours and the author for me to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.

Diane grew up on a farm outside Findlay, Ohio, and she often acted out characters from her own stories in the backyard. In high school Diane would read during classes and hide a novel in front of her in a propped-up textbook. After her high school graduation, she attended Ohio State University. Then Diane became a schoolteacher and play director. She met her husband while teaching at an orphanage, and they married three years later. It took her that long to convince him she was the one for him! While raising their family in southwestern Ohio, Diane started writing nonfiction and was published. Later she decided it would be a nice escape to write fiction. Diane was blessed with five daughters and one son. Two daughters were born with Down syndrome and live with Diane and her husband. Their other children live close by in Ohio so that’s wonderful. They also have four precious grandchildren. Diane published through a variety of houses. Several years ago, she decided to self-publish her books, so requested the rights back to her previously published stories. From the beginning, she enjoyed self-publishing her Amish romances. Diane gives thanks to God daily for her many blessings.

Guest Post from Diane

Hello, Reader Friends,

Priscilla’s Escape is Book 3 in The Bishop’s Daughters Series. This story features Priscilla King, and she is the fourth child born to Amos and Lillian King. You may remember meeting Priscilla in my Dreams of Plain Daughters Series. After I finished writing this series, I decided to continue to write about the Amish and English characters living in Fields Corner, Ohio. They became family and real to me.

The King family have six children with only one son. That is like our Craver family because we have five daughters and one son. Through the years, our family has faced certain challenges with two daughters being born with Down syndrome. Although Priscilla doesn’t have any siblings with special needs, she feels overlooked in her family. It’s like she’s invisible to her parents, especially to her father. He doesn’t understand her passion for painting but favors Molly’s talent for quilting. Everyone needs a cheerleader in their corner at times, and Priscilla is no different. Fortunately, her new boyfriend, Stephen, listens to her dream to paint beach pictures. He even understands her desire to wait to join the church.

All families suffer some type of hardships. It does seem like some more than others. A family’s faith in God gives them hope in their daily lives. Whatever the level of the pain, staying close to God and listening to his voice, gives us the strength to survive. The King family have their share of tragedies, but their faith reminds steadfast. When Priscilla leaves their close-knit unit, they all reach out to her by letter and phone calls. Her siblings even tell their father that he needs to share his secret with Priscilla.

I hope you will enjoy reading Priscilla’s Escape. There is a lot happening in the King family, so you can catch up with your favorite romantic couples in this novel. If you love going to the beach as much as I do, I think you’ll love reading about Priscilla’s beach experiences – some are good, and others are not.

Book Tour Grand Finale for
A Great Light
By Jennifer Ball

We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops

you can see snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:

Launch – Note from the Author

Welcome! I’m so excited to bring you my new series “The Kingdom to Come”. This first book “A Great Light” will introduce you to Prince Karhiad, a humble prince next in line to the throne, and his band of close loyal friends who live in the low social status of his kingdom. The crown prince respects his royal family, loves his parents and brother dearly, yet doesn’t align with their views of ruling the kingdom. He appreciates the authenticity that is found in his friends and the lifestyles of the lower and middle class…

My Devotional Thoughts – Inspiration for A GREAT LIGHT

This book was inspired by my favorite non-fictional person who was a humble king. Although, he was never a prince and had no royal bloodline, he was (in the plans of God) next in line for the throne — King David. The extreme trials that David faces in his lifetime are so immense, yet he stays faithful to a God he’s never laid eyes on. He never allows his status as king to make him arrogant or materialistic…

Stacking My Book Shelves! – Excerpt

“You came out here at night?” she asked with excitement. “Did you see these lit up in the dark?” She held her jar filled with lucent flutters towards him.

“Uh, no. I didn’t see those.”

“What was the woman’s name you met last night? Maybe I know her, although I doubt I do. A Trinicitian woman wouldn’t travel out here at night. We really aren’t supposed to travel outside without a companion anyway. I think I may be the only adventurer,” she said as she got into a standing position.

“I don’t know her name. I didn’t ask. I saw this magnificently beautiful light from my balcony. The curiosity of what it could possibly be drew me out here to find it. But it…” — he looked up towards the sky where he had seen it before — “it was gone.”

Remembrancy – The Kingdoms of A GREAT LIGHT

In this first book, A Great Light, you are introduced to 3 major kingdoms — Merrhius, Trinicity, and Ananias. There is also a few other minor kingdoms mentioned, however their focus will play out in future books…

Rockin’ Book Reviews – Review

“This book is full of fascinating adventure. I like the way Jennifer separates the lands with distinctive differences. They are close in proximity but so far apart in their beliefs and the way they live…

This is an awesome story and I highly recommend it to other readers.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

“Where is Trinicity?” he blurted out. She stopped her antics, and looked up at him. She didn’t respond. “I don’t mean to be intrusive. I was… I was just wondering how long a journey it is for you to get here.”

“Not long.” They kept their deep gaze with one another.

“Do you know…” He stopped, he couldn’t possibly ask, but he just felt so comfortable with her.

“Do I know what?”

“Do you know… why do people say they can’t find it?”

Wishful Endings – Why We Read Fantasy

Why do people read fantasy books? Because the human imagination is far more creative, compelling and fascinating than reality. If all books available only had a non-fictional theme, our minds would explode with the constant mental state of reality we’d always be in. Fantasy takes a person, even if for a brief moment, into a realm of excitement at the thought of “Wow, what if…?”…

The Barefoot Reader – Excerpt

“Could you ever show me your city?”

“Oh, no! He asked it!” Faith tried not to let her anxious feelings show on her face. Karhiad just longed for this mysterious place so eagerly. He knew this place was real, irrespective of what his father believed. He was confident this fascinating girl he met in the woods wasn’t lying about where she was from. The way she spoke about trivial matters and important issues was so alluring to him. The idea of visiting Trinicity, the place she came from, was very appealing to him. Besides, he never believed it to be a myth, and now eagerly just wanted to see it all with his own eyes.

My Life, Loves and Passion – Review

“Over the time they spend together they share about their homes. How they differ and what they share. They call for each other. Then tragedy stricks. Secrets and lies and manipulation take over…

…I like the story though and am curious what happens next.”

Declarations of a Fangirl – Good vs Evil

People are drawn to good vs evil because everyone can relate to such a battle. Even if the storyline is fantastical, everyone can relate to one of the characters in the fight. If it isn’t obviously painted out who the villain is and who the hero is, such as in Stars Wars with Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, then who is good and who is evil can be a matter of opinion. An interesting aspect of good vs evil stories is that it allows the reader/audience to see redemption in someone…

Among the Reads – Excerpt

“Rhaevaehyn. Do you know of it?”

“Vaguely. They have a monarchy.”

“Yes. We have a monarchy.” He couldn’t tell by her tone when she said ‘monarchy’ how she felt about royal dynasties. He wasn’t sure if he should follow his statement by telling her he was a prince in his kingdom. He didn’t want to appear as if he was boasting. Besides, he was still a little shocked they had never even discussed where he was from until now.

“I know.” Faith’s lack of interest let him know that this actually was not the right time to let her know his inheritance.

Reading On The Edge – Excerpt

“An old man in my city died this morning,” Faith said as she and Karhiad stacked twigs and leaves up into a pile. They wanted to see who could start a fire first without the common essentials needed to cause a spark.

“I’m sorry. Did you know him?” Karhiad wasn’t sure what level of comfort to provide her yet, so he kept gathering the driest leaves he could find.

“Yes. He was an elder that I would deliver dinner to.”

Tell Tale Book Reviews – Prince Karhiad’s Survival Checklist

√ Don’t fear anything… ever

√ Loyal friends in my circle who value me unconditionally

√ Physically train harder than what is expected of me as the prince

Locks, Hooks and Books – Review

“I enjoyed this Christian Fantasy. Prince Karhiad is lead to Faith by a light. She was my favorite character of the book. The story is full of inspiration with the battles of good versus evil.”

Colorimetry – Excerpt

“So, um, where…” She was eager to change the subject. “Where else have you traveled? Do you journey outside your kingdom walls often? Have you met people from different cultures?”

“I’ve traveled many miles on the outer stretches of my kingdom. It was part of my training to know all the terrain. The most interesting culture I’ve encountered would have to be those living in Ananias. They don’t have walls, so I guess they are considered just a village.”

“Oh, yes. I’ve read about them. How did you find them?”

“I don’t know the details of it. When I was a young adolescent, there was a man in our military who said he found a unique culture and wanted us all to meet them. My father took me out with him and the rest of the traveling troops to encounter them.”

SilverWoodSketches – Review

“Jennifer Ball does a fantastic job of painting this world with compelling characters and vivid colors. There is some very lovely prose to immerse the reader into Karhiad and Faith’s worlds. The writing style harkens to Robin McKinley’s and other epic fantasy authors. Some readers may be put off by the heavier religious elements, but fans of more allegorical works like C.S. Lewis and Anne Elisabeth Stengl will love the message of faith behind The Kingdom to Come.”

Love and war are often the same thing.

On the night of Prince Karhiad’s 17th birthday, he is mesmerized by a radiant light and makes a decision to learn of its origin. I am a friend of Jesus who at times fails at making this is my most important relationship. I am a wife who forgets at times this is my primary job. I am a mom who at times didn’t get it right. I take lots of pictures that annoy everyone in my family except for my dog. She loves it.

I began writing short stories when I was a child. I would sit in my room for hours writing as fast as I could to keep up with my thoughts. We didn’t have a typewriter and certainly no computer. Too often my writing would turn to scribble. I ended up with lots of loose paper with many short stories written on them in half scribble that made it too difficult for others to read. Thanks to technology, I went back to my childhood passion and wrote a story that I turned into a readable book.

That’s me, to make a long story short.

About the Book

Hidden-Among-The-Stars-Book-Cover

Book Title:Hidden Among The Stars

Author:Melanie Dobson

Genre: Historical Fiction (However, this is a time-slip novel, so there is also a contemporary component to the story)

Release date: September 4, 2018

From the award-winning author of Catching the Wind, which Publishers Weeklycalled “unforgettable” and a “must-read,” comes another gripping time-slip novel about hidden treasure, a castle, and ordinary people who resisted evil in their own extraordinary way.
The year is 1938, and as Hitler’s troops sweep into Vienna, Austrian Max Dornbach promises to help his Jewish friends hide their most valuable possessions from the Nazis, smuggling them to his family’s summer estate near the picturesque village of Hallstatt. He enlists the help of Annika Knopf, his childhood friend and the caretaker’s daughter, who is eager to help the man she’s loved her entire life. But when Max also brings Luzia Weiss, a young Jewish woman, to hide at the castle, it complicates Annika’s feelings and puts their entire plan—even their very lives—in jeopardy. Especially when the Nazis come to scour the estate and find both Luzia and the treasure gone.

Eighty years later, Callie Randall is mostly content with her quiet life, running a bookstore with her sister and reaching out into the world through her blog. Then she finds a cryptic list in an old edition of Bambithat connects her to Annika’s story . . . and maybe to the long-buried story of a dear friend. As she digs into the past, Callie must risk venturing outside the safe world she’s built for a chance at answers, adventure, and maybe even new love.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I’ll have to admit that I had a hard time getting into this book. Not the writers fault, for Ms. Dobson writes a lot of detailed history in this book. Slipping from the 1938 Hitler Movement, when young Annika helped hide valuable possessions of the Jewish people from the Nazis. To eighty years later when bookstore owner Callie Randall finds a cryptic list left in an old edition of Bambi that connects her to Annika’s story.

As with Melanie Dobson style, Hidden Among the Stars is a heartfelt story that’s not always easy to read. But each scene is so vividly detailed, and the characters so professionally crafted they pull you right into the story along with them. I did learn a lot about the Hitler movement that I’d never heard before. And I have to say the author did an amazing job of going back and forth between the 1938 era and today’s era. This is a very well written story, and I don’t know how to bring in a lot of the happenings in the review without giving away part of the plot and I hate doing that! So you will just need to pick up this book and see for yourself. You will find an awesomely crafted story that will sure give you hours of entertainment!

A copy of this book was provided by Celebration Lit Tours and the author for me to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.

Guest Post from Melanie

Hallstatt’s Hiding Places

Backpacking across Europe—that’s how my husband Jon and I decided to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. We savored the old world culture and charm as we hiked along Italy’s coast, toured medieval castles in Germany, and cruised the canals in Belgium; we both left a bit of our hearts in an ancient lakeside town called Hallstatt.

The moment we stepped off the ferryboat and into this storybook village, we crossed through a portal of sorts, traveling back several centuries in time. The rugged, snow-capped mountains around us and alpine lake, the quaint village with its church steeples and cobblestone lanes and waterfall that spilled into town—all of it captivated us.

Along the shore, hidden partially by trees, we could see spires of an abandoned castle, and I wanted to know its story. No one in Hallstatt could tell us who’d lived in the castle—at least, not in English—so my husband agreed to a new adventure. With a swan as our escort, we glided across the lake in an electric boat so I could study the rusty turrets, boarded windows, and wooden boathouse resting in the water like a felled log.

Instead of quelling my curiosity, the match of inspiration ignited my mind. Who had lived in this castle, and what happened there? I began writing in my journal that night, trying to capture my rogue thoughts on paper, hoping that one day a novel would emerge from the ashes of this castle’s story.

When we returned home, I began researching more of Hallstatt’s history and discovered that this region, in all of its beauty and mystique, had been infiltrated by an enemy in 1938. This town and the surrounding Salzkammergut became a mountain retreat for Nazi officials who built mansions on the shores of its many lakes and used salt mines to hide “ownerless treasure”—the gold bullion and artwork they’d stolen from the Jewish people.

The Nazis intended to build a Fourth Reich in this alpine fortress, but the Allies had other plans. Near the end of the war, these lakes became a dustbin of sorts, collecting whatever the enemy dumped into its waters—weapons, counterfeit banknotes, concentration camp lists—as they fled south from the Allied troops. The Devil’s Dustbin, locals call it.

Lake Hallstatt plunges more than four hundred feet between the fortress of mountains. Because of its depth and the many hiding places in the underwater forests, caves, and shifting sands, divers continue finding World War II artifacts today. Some still believe there’s a treasure trove buried on the bottom, but no one has reported finding any gold.

After our trip, a story about this castle and what happened to the heirlooms of the Austrian Jewish people continued to burn inside me until I finally put it on paper. So I built Schloss Schwansee—Castle of Swan Lake—in my mind, inspired by the castle along Lake Hallstatt, and created a cast of historical and contemporary characters who are searching for lost treasure.

Hidden Among the Stars is a time-slip novel about a castle and treasure and fairytales, but most of all, it’s a story about God using ordinary people across Austria to resist evil in their own extraordinary way.

Learning to love our bodies, our neighbors and ourselves

When I saw this book, I knew I had to read and give a review of my thoughts about it because I have always, all my life struggles with weight. I love how this author so vividly explains how we should love and accept ourselves are we are. This things would have helped me tremendously through my life so far had I realized these facts. I fully agree that we should love and accept everyone, no matter how big, little, tall or short, their race or color. And I believe as Christians that we should accept any of these people into our fellowship. Churches are full of sinners, some have been saved by God’s Grace, some who have not found salvation in our loving God as yet. I live how our pastor explains churches. He says churches are hospitals, for the Christians who are in need of help in their everyday lives, at whatever they face, and for the unsaved to come and be healed when they find Jesus as their Savior. There is no room for leaving anyone out.

435A1FD4-82E0-4B47-873E-58AC4A308174

But sadly society has ruined us all by brainwashing us to believe we should judge a person on how they look, their shape, size, color. And I appreciate this wonderful author for tackling these issues. And I highly commend her for coming forward and speaking out about her own issues with weight. As well as helping millions of people see themselves in a different light. All of this, I appreciate very much.

62D9DDE0-C8EF-44B6-9105-2394DD7FC783

However I have to agree with another reviewer that some parts of the book is more liberal than I wanted it to be. The Bible clearly says to ‘love the sinner and not the sin’. And I believe that is what I should do as a Christian. And I won’t elaborate on that more, it’s said plain and simple.

Sons of Blackbird Mountain by Joanne Bischof

D5490A02-2CA1-4F02-95BD-BAE69FE34572

SYNOPSIS: A Tale of Family, Brotherhood, and the Healing Power of Love

After the tragic death of her husband, Aven Norgaard is beckoned to give up her life in Norway to become a housekeeper in the rugged hills of Nineteenth-Century Appalachia. Upon arrival, she finds herself in the home of her late husband’s cousins—three brothers who make a living by brewing hard cider on their three-hundred acre farm. Yet even as a stranger in a foreign land, Aven has hope to build a new life in this tight-knit family.

But her unassuming beauty disrupts the bond between the brothers. The youngest two both desire her hand, and Aven is caught in the middle, unsure where—and whether—to offer her affection. While Haakon is bold and passionate, it is Thor who casts the greatest spell upon her. Though Deaf, mute, and dependent on hard drink to cope with his silent pain, Thor possesses a sobering strength.

As autumn ushers in the apple harvest, the rift between Thor and Haakon deepens and Aven faces a choice that risks hearts. Will two brothers’ longing for her quiet spirit tear apart a family? Can she find a tender belonging in this remote, rugged, and unfamiliar world?

A haunting tale of struggle and redemption, Sons of Blackbird Mountain is a portrait of grace in a world where the broken may find new life through the healing mercy of love.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
After Aven Norgaard looses her husband, there was nothing left for her in Norway. She responds to an invitation from her deceased husband’s aunt to come to the US and live in their home. But when she got there, things are not what she imagined. As the aunt describes the three cousins, her vision was not the three men she finds when she arrives at their home. Nor did she know the aunt was no longer there. And she certainly didn’t approve of their way of making money. Aven has decisions to make. Would she still stay in their home despite everything she has learned, or will she leave and find a place of her own.
Wow this is such an amazing read! Joanne Bischof creates characters in this story that seem to pop off the page into the readers like, at least that’s how it felt with me. I loved that each scene, each page was full of details, so professionally written with amazing results. There are so many different issues the author attacks here, she did a beautiful job of relating how to deal with someone deaf, someone dealing with substance abuse, brother and neighbors rivalry, and these issues are woven together in a way that makes you not only want to keep reading, but I was wanting to help people in these issues. I just couldn’t put this book down until the last page. When you want to pray for the characters, you have it bad!!
One thing I learn in this book is the precise way good hard cider is made. And apparently it takes an expert to make the different flavors and taste. And I found it interesting how Aven came up with different ways to use it. And threw it all, her faith in God was there, sustaining her, carrying her through the issues. As you can see, I love everything about this book! And I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a good clean read!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
01CCC010-C495-4870-B230-394548D03455

Joanne has a long-standing passion for romance and a budding fervor for theology. She is more and more awed by how wondrously the two go hand in hand.

So depraved are we in our sinful state—so in need of a Savior—that the love story between God and his people is nothing short of astounding. A quenching of the thirst to parched souls. A light that makes the darkness tremble. A freedom from the bondage of pain and sin. Joanne is beyond thankful to be a part of this great love story and writes books to not only portray the glorious wonder of human love, but to reflect the ultimate romance and rescue that comes through Christ.

Ours for a Season by Kim Vogel Sawyer

8E07B600-9DC3-40A2-9381-B308CE77FABD

ABOUT THIS BOOK

An Old Order Mennonite couple’s vows and beliefs are challenged in this stirring contemporary novel for fans of Cindy Woodsmall or Shelley Shepherd Gray.

Anthony and Marty Hirschler are part of an Old Order Mennonite community in Pine Hill, Indiana. The couple has grown apart since a doctor confirmed they would never have children. Marty longs to escape the tight-knit area where large families are valued, and the opportunity to do so arises when her childhood friend, Brooke Spalding, resurfaces with the wild idea of rebuilding a ghost town into a resort community. Brooke hires Anthony to help with the construction, drawing the Hirschlers away from Indiana and into her plan, and then finds herself diagnosed with cancer. Moral complications with Brooke’s vision for a casino as part of the resort and the discovery of a runaway teenager hiding on the property open up a world neither the Hirschlers nor Brooke had considered before. Will they be able to overcome their challenges and differences to help the ones among them hurting the most?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

6018581E-08F0-402C-828E-1B1F23C5EBA4

Our’s for a Season is such an awesome read. I love that author Kim Vogel Sawyer puts a different twist on Amish and Mennonite stories! Anthony and Marty Hirschler are unable to have children, which is not a good thinking for a couple in the Mennonite  community where having a big family is a way of life. As Marty is longing to leave their community, she rec’ves a letter from her best childhood friend, Brook Spaulding, wanting to contract rebuilding a ghost town out to Anthony. Which would mean leaving their Old Order Mennonite community in Pine Hill for a long while. Will their time away from home rebuild the life and marriage they once had?

This is such a sweet, but yet heartbreaking story. My heart was aching for Marty and Anthony. Two people who clearly loves each other, but the disappointments And pressures of life have slowly pulled the two apart. And their Mennonite friends could really be harsh and uncaring about the remarks they would make because the couple was childless. I was so glad Brook hired Anthony, so the couple could be forever gone from these.

But their new home and surroundings didn’t cure their problems immediately. There were many issues, many twists and turns to this story that made life, as well as decisions so very difficult at times. But as usual, Ms. Sawyer creates awesome, realistic characters, and weaves together every twist and turn the story takes, writing an amazing story for us to read. I love everything about this story. I love that Ms. Sawyer clearly tells the Gospel in this story within the lives of the characters. I highly recommend this story to anyone wanting a good clean fun read. And especially to those who love and enjoy Amish and Mennonite stories!

GoodreadsAmazonB&NiBooksKoboHarlequin

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is my first book by author Karen Rock and the forth book in the Rocky Mountain Cowboys Series. Cole Loveland and Katlynn Brennon have a past that neither of them wants to think about. They went to their separated ways when Katlynn followed her dreams to become an import and person in the Television Land. But Katlynn has no choice but to return to her hometown in Colorado to try and save her struggling TV show.

It seems that a longtime feud between both Cade and KatieLynn’s families was still controlling a lot of the issues even now. And when Katie Lynn starts investigating the feud, emotions and tensions were flying everywhere.  So many issues causing a great many issues and misunderstandings in the town.

I did enjoy this book and it’s characters. The author does a great job creating the characters and weaving them into a plot that was well thought out and planned. I missed the other books, but glad I read this one. The book that brought the series to and end with all of the excitement that has been building up since the series began. I’m sorry I missed the others, but this one was an amazing read! This book was given to me by Clean Wholesome Romance to read and review and post what I think about the story. This review offers my opinion only. The 5 Star rating is my opinion of how well the story flows, how well written, and just my overall opinion.

The House at Saltwater Point by Colleen Coble

15D6724E-2310-4E87-86A2-05FB6D178C50

The dangerous beauty of Lavender Tides is harboring secrets that reach around the world.

Ellie Blackmore is making a name for herself as a house flipper. But when her sister Mackenzie disappears, Ellie can’t focus on anything but uncovering what happened. Her only clue is the bloodstain on the deck of Mackenzie’s boat. Ellie knows her sister isn’t on the best of terms with her ex-husband, Jason, but he wouldn’t kill her—would he?

Coast Guard intelligence officer Grayson Bradshaw believes Mackenzie faked her own death after stealing a seized cocaine shipment. The problem is convincing Ellie, who seems to view him as the true enemy.

Both Ellie and Grayson want truth, but truth—and family—is often more complex than it first appears. From international terrorism to the peaceful lavender fields of Puget Sound, The House at Saltwater Point is a thrilling race to uncover the truth before it’s too late.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The House at Saltwater Point is another awesome read from one of my favorite authors, Colleen Coble. In this story, Ellie Blackmore has poured her life into her business, and has earned her place in society by flipping houses either her partner Jason. Her sisters ex-husband. But everything changed with Ellie when her sister Mackenzie went missing. And Ellie did not believe it when Coast Guard intelligence officer Grayson Bradshaw says Mac faked her own death to steal a cocaine shipment. Her sister would never do that! But as the investigation continues, everything points to Mac as the guilty one.

There were so many twists and turns to this story I had to know what was happening next. With characters so well created and a plot that wouldn’t let go, I was hooked from the very first page of this story. I found myself only putting it down a few times when I absolutely had to. It didn’t take long for Ellie and Grayson to find a warm place in my heart! Grayson was one of those guys you have to like! There’s more I’d love to share about this book but I would give parts of the plot away that would ruin it. So you just have to buy this book to see what happens. And for all of you suspense readers out there, this one is a must!

Formula of Deception by Carrie Stuart Parks

4898DF27-1B29-49FF-82F4-67BDA92C8579

SYNOPSIS:

An artist hiding from an escaped killer uncovers one of World War II’s most dangerous secrets—a secret that desperate men will do anything to keep hidden.

After the murder of her twin sister, Murphy Anderson changed her name and appearance and moved to Kodiak, Alaska, to avoid the press and publicity. But when local authorities discover she’s an artist and request her help in drawing a dying man’s memories, she unintentionally ends up in the limelight again—and back in the killer’s crosshairs.

The deathbed confessions of an Alaskan hunter have Murphy drawing the five bodies he discovered on remote Ruuwaq Island ten years ago. But what investigators find has them mystified. Evidence suggests that the bodies were deliberately destroyed, and what they uncover in an abandoned Quonset hut from World War II only brings more questions.

As one by one the investigators who were at the hut die, Murphy knows there is something much darker at stake. What happened on this island during the war? And who is willing to kill to keep its secrets buried?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Murphy Anderson may have changed her name and appearance and moved to Kodiak, Alaska, to avoid the press and publicity after her sister’s death, but the truth always seems to come out, no matter how hard we try to keep it secret. And when Murphy was ask to draw the deathbed confessions of an Alaskan hunter, she was in the spotlight again. But the question now is, who are these 5 bodies discovered on remote Ruuwaq Island ten years that Murphy has drawn?

One thing about this book, it keep you on the edge of your seat! Carrie Stuart Parks writes a riveting story based on bodies found on this remote island, and only a dying man tells the story. There was a lot of this story that was a bit gruesome to read. A lot of death, dead bodies, killings in cold blue. A little much for me at times. So much so I had to skim through a lot of the story to get to the end. The suspense and thrills were there, so for those who love a good thriller, you will like this one.

Excerpt

“Good Morning, Grace.”

Grace gaped and slowed on the porch steps of Brewster’s. The other half of her child’s DNA sat across from Pops. Ethan in his worn boots, faded flannel shirt and baseball cap smiled at her, stirring warmth through her. He returned his attention to the chessboard as if he’d been playing with her grandfather for years. As if this was their morning routine. As if he belonged here on this porch, waiting for her.

Waiting for her to confess.

Grace’s hand drifted to her stomach, her slight bump concealed beneath her jacket. Why did the truth have to be so complicated?

Still she couldn’t quite stall that swirl of warmth inside her from seeing Ethan.

She should be hot from irritation. She should be annoyed with Ethan for intruding on her usual morning routine. She always shared coffee and stories with her grandfather before the store opened. Before the other employees arrived. Before the customers took over the day.

Except this morning, they were a trio, rather than a duo. What was it with people inserting themselves where they didn’t belong? First, there was Sarah Ashley trying to step into the family business for the first time ever, and now, Ethan.

Was it so wrong that Grace wanted one thing to remain the same? To remain normal? In six months, nothing about her life would be either. But she could at least have her usual mornings with Pops, couldn’t she? Surely that wasn’t too much to ask.

“Sit down, Gracie.” Pops pointed at the empty rocking chair beside Ethan. The same one she sat in every morning while she listened to Pops reminisce about her grandmother or his childhood. “Your Ethan here, he already took care of your morning chores for you.” He eyed Ethan over the rims of his glasses and grinned. “Can’t ever get this girl to sit. But I got her good this morning, thanks to you.”

“I can make more coffee.” Ethan’s hand was on a stack of file folders. He glanced at her, and his guarded tone suggested he thought she needed several cups to tackle the Blackwell books.

“I’ve been making the effort to switch to tea.” Grace reached inside her purse for her special ginger tea. She was going to need to steep more than one bag this morning. Sitting next to Ethan was unsettling. She cleared her throat to smooth the accusation out of her voice and looked at him. “You’re up early.”

“Trying to get some errands done before Katie notices I’ve left.” Ethan placed a hand on his white knight and started to move the piece, but then paused to consider the chessboard as if everything hinged on this one particular move.

Whereas for Grace, everything hinged on her baby and keeping her stomach from objecting to the morning’s excitement. Would Ethan expect her to say checkmate when she told him about the baby? As if she’d neatly trapped him into being a dad. And what about marriage? She didn’t want Ethan to offer to marry her because she was carrying his child. But would he believe her?

“Keeping ahead of Katie Montgomery is almost as impossible as staying a step ahead of our Gracie.” Pops stuck his elbows out and leaned on his knees, as if anticipating Ethan’s move. As if Ethan proved a challenge to her grandfather. Ethan shifted his knight, taking Pops’s bishop. Pops rubbed his chin. “Sometimes you get lucky.”

Maybe Grace would get lucky and Ethan would confess he’d always wanted to be a father and couldn’t think of another person he wanted to have a child with other than Grace. The tea bag crinkled in her fist. What a ridiculous thought.

Only fools relied on luck.
