Last Chance Hero

by Cathleen Armstrong

What happens when your heart is intercepted before you even know it’s in play?

The folks in Last Chance, New Mexico, could not be more pleased. Dr. Jessica MacLeod has opened an office right on Main Street and Andy Ryan, the best athlete the little town ever produced, has come home from the NFL to coach the high school football team. Unfortunately, Dr. Jess immediately gets off on the wrong foot with this football-obsessed town when she admits that she’s never seen a football game, isn’t really interested in doing so, and in fact doesn’t know a first down from a goalpost.

Despite having little in common, Jess and Andy find themselves drawn to each other. But when a disagreement over the future of an injured player puts them both on the defensive, it begins to look like this game is over . . .

Cathleen Armstrong lives in Orange County, California, with her husband, Ed, and their corgi. Though she has been in California for many years now, her roots remain deep in New Mexico. Her debut novel Welcome to Last Chance won the American Christian Fiction Writers Genesis Award for Women’s Fiction. She is also the author of One More Last Chance and At Home in Last Chance. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Dr. Jessica MacLeod is the new Dr in Last Chance, New Mexico. Not realizing how much of a football town it was, Jessica let everyone know she didn’t know anything about football, had never been to a game. Which was not good for her. And to make matters worse, the Dr. is attracted to the towns high school football coach, who just happened to play for the NFL. Dr. Jessica better change her attitude about football or she could have problems in Last Chance. Even though I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I did the others in this series, it was still an enjoyable read. If nothing else, it sure tells you what happens when a new non-football person moves into a town crazy about their high school football team. Cathleen Armstrong weaves together a fun and entertaining story that will give readers several hours of good clean, enjoyable reading. This entire series is a wonderful set of books for you to add to your wish list!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Laura Frantz is just an awesome author! I love of her books, and I love her latest, The Mistress of Tall Acre! Sophie finds herself married to widower General Seamus Ogilvy and being mom to his small daughter. It was a safe sensible marriage. That is until another woman from the General’s past shows up unannounced on their doorstep, totally turning life upside down at Tall Acre.

Sophie was such a sweet character, and she was getting the bad end of the deal from every way. I was excited for her when she married the general. Even though she had the child to take care of, life was still difficult for her. But Ms. Frantz does an amazing job weaving all of these problems, and difficult situations together and bringing them all to a heartwarming end. And I am not going to give away any more! I highly recommend this book to you, and especially of you love historical fiction. The history throughout this book is amazing and will make you want to be there at Tall Acre’s with the all of these characters.

About This Book

Ariana’s comfortable Old Order Amish world is about to unravel. Will holding tightly to the cords of family keep them together—or simply tear them apart?

Twenty-year-old Ariana Brenneman loves her family and the Old Ways. She has two aspirations: open a café in historic Summer Grove to help support her family’s ever-expanding brood and to keep any other Amish from being lured into the Englisch life by Quill Schlabach.

Five years ago Quill, along with her dear friend Frieda, ran off together, and Ariana still carries the wounds of that betrayal. When she unexpectedly encounters him, she soon realizes he has plans to help someone else she loves leave the Amish.
*
Despite how things look, Quill’s goal has always been to protect Ariana from anything that may hurt her, including the reasons he left. After returning to Summer Grove on another matter, he unearths secrets about Ariana and her family that she is unaware of. His love and loyalty to her beckons him to try to win her trust and help her find a way to buy the café—because when she learns the truth that connects her and a stranger named Skylar Nash, Quill knows it may upend her life forever.

Ties That Bind is the first novel in the Amish of Summer Grove series.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Five years have gone by since Quill and Frieda jumped the fence, leaving Quill’s girl Ariana behind, hurting because of the betrayal of her boyfriend and best friend. Then Quill shows back up in Summer Grove. It was kind of difficult sometimes to follow what was going on because the reason for Quill and Frieda leaving was so secretive, it didn’t make a lot of sense. The story gets interesting when Ariana’s parents come to Quill because they suspect their baby was switched with an Englischer’s baby at the time of birth. Resulting I a lot of tension and unanswered questions. Questions that only Quill could find out. This part of the story was so very interesting I couldn’t put the book down, because I wanted to see what happened to these two young ladies. I sure hope there is a book two coming soon because the book ended in the middle of the story, leaving me hanging off a cliff! Can’t wait to see what happens with these two young ladies!

The Memory Weaver by Jane Kirkpatrick from Revell

The Memory Weaver

by Jane Kirkpatrick

“Jane Kirkpatrick puts flesh and blood on the bones of history. Set against an authentic nineteenth-century background, this is a superb story of a woman’s struggle to triumph over time and place. . . . A memorable book.”–Sandra Dallas, New York Times bestselling author

Eliza Spalding Warren was just a child when she was taken hostage by the Cayuse Indians during a massacre in 1847. Now a mother of two, Eliza faces a new kind of dislocation; her impulsive husband wants to make a new start in another territory, which will mean leaving her beloved home and her mother’s grave–and returning to the land of her captivity.

Haunted by memories and hounded by struggle, Eliza longs to know how her mother dealt with the trauma of their ordeal. As she searches the pages of her mother’s diary, Eliza is stunned to find that her own recollections tell only part of the story.

Based on true events, The Memory Weaver is New York Times bestselling author Jane Kirkpatrick’s latest literary journey into the past, where threads of western landscapes, family, and faith weave a tapestry of hope inside every pioneering woman’s heart. Get swept up in this emotional story of the memories that entangle us and the healing that awaits us when we bravely unravel the threads of the past.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The Memory Weaver is based on facts taken from diaries and other documented facts found on the life of Eliza Spalding, daughter of missionaries Henry and Eliza Spaulding. Knowing this was real life stuff, the story takes on a different meaning than one that is fictional. Starting from a young age, Eliza lived a very sad and tragic life. In this book, Jane Kirkpatrick weaves a story together that tells of the trauma this young lady faced, along with the peace and healing as she gets older and has a family of her own. I was in awe as I read the events that took place in Eliza’s young life, and was amazed at how God took those things and made her the person she became. An awesome read that I recommend to everyone!

Litfuse Presents……God Made All of Me: A Book to Help Children Protect Their Bodies By Justin and Lindsey Holcomb

ll

About the Book
God Made All of MeGod Made All of Me: A Book to Help Children Protect Their Bodies (New Growth Press, September 2015)

“God made every part of you!”

It’s easy to convey the message to children that their bodies—or particular parts of their bodies—are shameful. This misconception fuels confusion, embarrassment, and secrecy, and often prevents children from recognizing or reporting sexual abuse.

God Made All of Me is a simply-told, beautifully-illustrated story to help families talk about these sensitive issues with two- to eight-year-old children. Because the private parts of our bodies are private, the home is the ideal environment where a child should learn about his or her body and how it should be treated by others.

God Made All of Me starts from the fundamental truth that God created everything and applies that truth—the doctrine of creation—to kids and their bodies. It equips parents to talk with both boys and girls about their bodies and to help them understand the difference between the appropriate and inappropriate touch of others. God Made All of Me allows families to build a first line of defense against sexual abuse in the safety of their own homes.

God Made All of Me is the first children’s book written by Rid of My Disgrace authors Justin and Lindsey Holcomb. Parents of young children themselves, the Holcombs regularly counsel victims of sexual abuse and are profoundly aware of the dangers kids face. Their simple and relatable story, designed to help children protect their bodies, will be an important resource for every family with young children.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is definitely a special and unique book, a book that is very much needed for all parents. God Made All Of Me gives parents a unique way to teach their children about their bodies, and how to handle their bodies. Sexual abuse is so scary, and it is sad that so many children are victims, and if this book keeps one child from that abuse, it is worth it all. Teaching children that God made all of them, every part of their bodies for a specific reason, and teaching them to protect themselves from abusers is what God Made All Of Me is about.

I encourage every parent to buy this book, follow the suggestions of the authors, Justin and Lindsey Holcomb, who have small children themselves, and go through this book with your child. It may save a lot of heartache for you and your child.

A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn

About the Book
A Wedding at the Orange Blossom InnA Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn (Avon Inspire, September 2015)

A wedding brings together two young widowed parents . . . and gives them a second chance at love.

Emma Keim was heartbroken when her husband, Sanford, passed away, leaving her to raise three young daughters alone. Though several years have passed, her relatives have made it no secret that they expect Emma to remain a widow, mourning Sanford indefinitely. But when she meets Jay Hilty—a handsome widower with three young sons of his own—Emma is delighted to have a new friend who understands her struggles. Still, she is dismayed that her family is so opposed to their friendship—and the idea of it ever becoming anything more. She honors her husband’s memory every day, but is she destined to be alone forever?

Emma’s gentleness with Jay’s boys stirs something in his heart that’s been quiet for far too long. But when his oldest son becomes engaged to a local woman, suddenly Jay, Emma, and their children are swept up in wedding preparations. Witnessing his son’s joy, Jay wonders if it’s time for him to move forward, too, and find happiness again.

Once again, love has come to Pinecraft. But can these two parties of four become a happy, healthy family of eight?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

A mischievous dog named Friankie and two Amish people who have lost their mates, makes for an interesting story. Jay and Emma were living separate lives, that is until Frankie brought them together. Thus the attraction began between the two. But what would people think, and especially her family, if Emma shows interest in another guy?

Another wonderful read from author Shelley Shepard Gray. I love the little Pinecraft community and the friends I have made there. The characters are so well developed, they seem like real family. And Jay and Emma and their ‘Brady Bunch’ family is a heartwarming story that will stay with you for a while! Pinecraft, Florida and the Orange Blossom Inn will have you coming back for more. I cant wait until the next book hits the shelves!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is a very interesting DVD, one that can be used as an individual study, or group or Sunday School class study. The DVD is divided into five sections, which are:

1. Expectations
2. Rest
3. Disappointment
4. Trust
5. Control

I like the way this DVD is presented. After watching each section, discussions can easily be started because each situation is discussed with ease, helping those who have problems talking about their difficult situations. These are things we all have problems with at one time or another, and I highly recommend this study to everyone, because I think everyone can benefit from it!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS DVD

I found this DVD and Study Guide very interesting, because it gave me a new insight on what it is like in the Holy Land. The sessions are short, the Study Guide is detailed with many question to help you learn more and in the easier way of actually writing down the answers. I can always learn more when I write things down. The 5 Episodes were filmed on location in the Middle East, so watching this is real. The studies are set up and organized very well, in order to help you take the study as deep as you want to, and if you study this alone you can certainly study at your own pace. This would also be a very nice small groups study or Sunday school class study. The discussions questions would be  more interesting in a group, helping you learn even more,

Over all, this is a DVD/Bible Study that I highly recommend for you.

A House Divided By Robert Whitlow

A House Divided

   By Robert Whitlow

Book Description

A father’s mistakes nearly cost his children everything. Now his children must unite to take on the most important case of their respective careers.

Corbin Gage is slowly drinking himself into the grave while running a small law practice in a small Georgia town. The assistant DA in the same community is his son Ray, poised for a professional breakthrough based on a job offer to work for the best law firm in the area. Roxy is Corbin’s daughter, a rising star associate in Atlanta for an international law firm that specializes in high stakes, multi-million-dollar litigation.

Against the advice of everyone in his life, Corbin Gage takes on a toxic tort case on behalf of three boys who have contracted non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma due to an alleged chemical exposure. The defendant, a herbicide/pesticide/fertilizer company, is the largest employer in the area. Because of the lawsuit, Ray’s job offer evaporates, forcing him to go to work with his father. Roxy’s expertise in complex litigation draws her into the drama.

As their investigation uncovers an audacious conspiracy to conceal dangers to their community, Corbin, Ray, and Roxy come to a personal treaty in their pursuit of justice. But they soon discover that burying a problem can have explosive results.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

In his new book, Robert Whitlow deals with alcoholism, and the difficult problems that are caused by this really bad problem. There is a lot of tension flying around because of Corbin’s drinking problem, and it didn’t help any when he takes on a case forcing his son to work for him. This is one of the best suspense stories I have read in a while. It will sure keep you on the edge of your seats. The characters are just like real! It all seems like reading something about a real family and real situation. Mr. Whitlow does a fantastic job of writing a story, and this is one of his best. I highly recommend A House Divided.
