MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Another awesome suspenseful read by Sandra Orchard that I thoroughly enjoyed. A lot of twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and I didn’t want to put the book down! I did stay frustrated at Kate throughout the book because she just needed a good shaking. Her wishy washy personality was just uncalled for, she definitely needed to grow up! I do enjoy the author’s writing style, and will look forward to reading more books from Sandra Orchard in the future! If you enjoy a good, clean suspense, you really need to check this one out! And while you are at it, check out the first two books in this series!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is the best series! I just love Kim Vogel Sawyer, she is by far one of my favorite authors of all time!  Alexa is now running her B&B, Grace Notes at her grandmothers house. when Anna-Grace needed someplace to stay while visiting family, Alexa agreed to let her stay at the B&B, despite how difficult it would be. Even though Anna Grace didn’t know the truth about her real mom, Alexa and her grandmother knew. And the there is  hotshot Chicago reporter Briley Forrester nosing around trying to find out all he could about the Amish, things would get very testy at the B&B.

My heart went out to Alexia because of her insecurity, but I don’t think she had a reason to be, because her grandmother was truly crazy about her. And Alexia had been a joy to the older woman’s life. The entire story is full of tension because of the close quarters in the house with the two young ladies and the grandma there. And Briley added more tension as well as fun to the story. You had to like Briley, even though he was annoying at times. You just have to read the this book to get the full effect. And I agree with other reviewers that several issues was left hanging, but I hope the third book in this series will take care of this.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Anna Gordon just wasn’t happy managing the little hotel in her hometown, but she really didn’t want to leave her grandmother, so that’s why she stayed. But when a long time friend appears and has information about a manager’s job at a big hotel in New York, Anna decides to spread her wings and go for it. But it didn’t turn out quite like she thought it would.

It took me a while to get into this book. It just didn’t seem that realistic, Anna going to NY, making it on her own, in the big city without any problems. And she was almost too trusty with everyone, which I have heard can’t happen in the big city of NY. I guess the switch from a small town to the big city didn’t seem like that much of a difference. But as I kept reading, it got interesting. The main thing was the tension between Anna and her high school friend that landed the job of hotel manager, when Anna’s job was managing the housekeeping department. All in all, this is a very nice light and interesting read, and good entertainment for a few hours. So if you need a nice summer read, I suggest this one for you.

About the book:
Hearts Made Whole (Bethany House, June 2015)

Can she forgive the hurting man who costs her the role she loves?

After her father’s death, Caroline Taylor has grown confident running the Windmill Point Lighthouse. But in 1865 Michigan, women aren’t supposed to have such roles, so it’s only a matter of time before the lighthouse inspector appoints a new keeper—even though Caroline has nowhere else to go and no other job available to her.

Ryan Chambers is a Civil War veteran still haunted by the horrors of battle. He’s secured the position of lighthouse keeper mostly for the isolation—the chance to hide from his past is appealing. He’s not expecting the current keeper to be a feisty and beautiful woman who’s angry with him for taking her job and for his inability to properly run the light. When his failings endanger others, he and Caroline realize he’s in no shape to run the lighthouse, but he’s unwilling to let anyone close enough to help. Caroline feels drawn to this wounded soul, but with both of them relying on that single position, can they look past their loss to a future filled with hope…and possibly love?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
Both Caroline Taylor and Ryan Chambers were broken people because of the horrible things that has happened in each of their past. So broken they didn’t want to be around people, never thought life would be any better for them, and just wanted to go on with life as it was, to keep from remembering the hurt. But Jody Hedlund has a way of telling about the horrific broken lives of characters, so horrific that readers can’t see how she can turn their lives around in the story, but it happens. I love how Ms. Hedlund so expertly shows love, redemption, grace and restoration, and shows that well, Hearts can be made whole through Jesus. It’s hard for me to get into the story, telling a lot about it because I don’t want to spoil any part of it for anyone. Its just that good. And this is one of those books that, the closer I came to the end, the more I wanted to slow down on turning the pages because I just didn’t want it to end. This is a beautiful, beautiful story, a story that is well worth your read!

Her parents still think they’re married and now Ryan knows it too. Besides, he only wants to check in with his best friend from college-her cousin Beau, who just lost his dad. It’s just a one-week road-trip with the man who broke her heart. What could possibly go wrong?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is really a sweet and special story from author Denise Hunter! Ryan has made no secret in the prior books in this series of his love for Abbi. And the one thing he wants is to win her back, but Abbi definitely doesn’t want anything to do with this guy who broke her heart. So when she agreed to go to her family for a week with Ryan, she knew nothing could happen. Even though her parents thought they were married, and they were going to act like a married couple for the sake of her parents.

I don’t cry a lot when I read books, but with this one, I just couldn’t help it. The tensions, the attraction, the romance, and the tenderness and forgiveness. It all pulls you into the story at the very beginning, and it doesn’t let go until way long after you finish the book. I hated for Married ’til Monday to end and I will be keeping this entire series by Ms. Hunter to read in the future!

Kindness is a virtue Meanness is a sin Better watch your bakery pies For poison I’ve slipped in

The Amish Artisan Village in Middlebury, Indiana, has been decorated with every color of balloon and flower for the Race for a Cure. As manager of the Village, Amber Bowman is thrilled to see the turnout-and relieved to have something to distract her from the “Poison Poet”-an individual who has been sending notes containing bad poetry to warn of poisoned baked goods.

Then Ryan Duvall crosses the finish line of the race-and falls down dead, murdered in broad daylight. But who did it? And why? The police suspect Preston Johnston, but Amber refuses to believe her employee could do such a thing.

Amber once again looks to her young Amish friend Hannah Troyer to help her find the killer-and to determine if it’s the same person leaving the cryptic poems and pies. Can they help the police before the Poison Poet strikes again? Both Amber and Hannah will need to draw on their faith as they fight to preserve the peaceful community they’ve built at the Amish Artisan Village.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Another murder in the Amish Artisan Village in Middlebury, Indiana, and the Poison Poet strikes again and again leaving pies with notes attached saying the pies are poisoned. And then the emails Amber is getting, that is clearly from the Poison Poet?  Ms. Chapman does it again with a murder, mystery/suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seats. And in an Amish community at that!

I felt so bad for Amber, the harassing emails were causing problems with her work and marriage, because the Poison Poet was determined that she wouldn’t tell anyone what was going on. But she had too many friends and family that loved her, and I was touched at the way the pulled together to help her. And another person that was helped was Preston. I really like Preston and the sweet relationship forming between Preston and Mocha, which you will need to read the book to find out about these two! And who in the world could have gunned Ryan Duvall down in broad daylight, just as he finished his race?
A lot of questions, and a lot going on in Murder Freshly Baked, and I just know you will enjoy it as much as I did!

His previous works have been finalists for the Carol Award and Romantic Times Reader’s Choice Award, and have won the Selah Award. He is a past Vice-President of American Christian Fiction Writers and a member of the International Thriller Writers. He and his wife live in North Texas.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Fatal Trauma is another addition to the awesome medical suspense books by Richard Mabry, M.D.! Being a doctor, the medical descriptions of hospital scenes, medicines, medical terms, job responsibilities of those in the medical field are real, and I always feel like I am in the middle of the scenes.

This story starts out with a bang, with a man entering the ER with his brother and a gun, threatening everyone that didn’t help save his brothers life he would kill them. Dr. Mark Baker’ main concern was Nurse Kelly Atkinson, especially since he had dated her and was attracted to her. But was this brother already dead? And the police shows up and the scene was not a pretty one. There are many twists and turns in this story, a lot going on that makes you wonder just how many people are running with the bad guys, to many people are losing their lives. The police need to get to the bottom of this before anyone else gets hurt or loses their lives. And that’s all I will say about this book! Because its much more fun digging in to at book like this not knowing a thing about what is going on. And you know with Dr. Mabry, its going to be a killer read!

Love’s Rescue by Christine Johnson from Revell

Love’s Rescue by Christine Johnson

Can a girl enamored with the adventurous seas ever be content with the tame life of a Southern belle?

When her mother dies, Elizabeth Benjamin heads home to Key West, determined to transform herself into the perfect Southern belle her parents always wished her to be. But nothing goes according to plan. Her brother resents her, the servants do not obey her, and Rourke O’Malley, the dashing man she vowed to forget, refuses to relinquish his hold on her heart. Worst of all, it becomes painfully obvious that her father is not the man he appears to be.

As family secrets come to light, Elizabeth is faced with a difficult choice: to perform her duty and abandon her dreams, or to leave her life of privilege behind to chase the man her father sees as little better than a pirate.

From the first emotional page, author Christine Johnson throws you into a world of impossible choices, hidden desires, and heart-melting romance in the steamy South.

Christine Johnson is the author of several books for Steeple Hill and Love Inspired and has been twice named a finalist for Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart award. When not writing, she loves to hike and explore God’s majestic creation. She and her husband, a Great Lakes ship pilot, split their time between northern Michigan and the Florida Keys. Learn more at http://www.christineelizabethjohnson.com.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Her mother’s death causes Elizabeth Benjamin  to return to her home in Key West, but things didn’t go as she thought it would. Though she needed her family, it seemed that they didn’t need her as much, and she sure wasn’t happy with her father’s pick as a husband for her. Was her trip back home a mistake?

Since this was my first book by Christine Johnson I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. This book was as good as the cover is beautiful! I love the inviting cover! This was also my first story with a setting in the historical 1850’s Key West, Florida. There is a lot that makes up the plot of this story, danger, secrets, adventures seas, heart throbbing romance, and determination in the hearts of characters. Ms. Johnson does a marvelous job of weaving it all together to write a most amazing, entertaining and enjoyable story that I highly recommend. I will sure be looking for more books in this series.

Whos the New Kid

About the Book
Who’s the New Kid?Who’s the New Kid? (Tyndale, May 2015)

Who’s the New Kid? shows readers how Heidi helped her daughter lose weight without the aid of fad diets, medication, or surgery and how other parents can do the same with their kids.

At nine years old, Breanna Bond weighed a whopping 186 pounds. Just walking up the stairs to her room was a challenge. Her legs chafed to the point of bleeding from rubbing against each other, and her school days were filled with taunts of “Hey, Fatty!” Breanna’s mom, Heidi, was devastated and wondered, How can I get my daughter healthy again?

In just over a year, Heidi’s plan worked! Breanna dropped 40 percent of her body weight and was transformed from a morbidly obese child who spent her days in front of the TV eating chips and chocolate to a vibrant, healthy, energetic little girl.

Filled with helpful diagnostic tools, easy-to-make recipes, eye-opening nutritional information, fun exercise ideas, and practical tips and advice, Who’s the New Kid? will not only show parents how to help their kids lose weight naturally but also introduce  them to simple, yet effective lifestyle changes that will benefit the entire family.

Learn more and purchase a copy.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is a really good story written from a mothers viewpoint about her child. With television being the big entertainment and past time, weight problems in children are on the rise. Heidi Bond made changes she had to make for her daughter’s health. With the world today full of fast food, quick fix meals, and sweet and fatty snacks, obesity in children just keeps getting worse.

I appreciate how Heidi and Breanna are using their story to help other kids with the same problems they have experienced. Even though their journey was not an easy on, it was a productive one because it taught them the meaning of a healthy lifestyle. I did make me angry as Heidi talked about the way people viewed her efforts, especially talking about those who had talked about her daughter’s obesity, now criticizing her for refusing her candy and sweet treats.
