ABOUT THIS BOOK

Some families are filled with so much love they can’t help but drive each other crazy

Shay Henke has mixed feelings about going to her family’s next reunion. On the one hand, she’ll get to see everyone in her mama’s family—folks she loves unconditionally. On the other hand, she knows there’ll be more drama than you can shake a stick at.

The days leading up to the event bring one surprise after another. First Shay must deal with her sister-in-law’s deep, dark secret. Then she has to contend with the childish ways of her business-mogul twin cousins. And when her high school crush wants to be her date to the reunion . . . well, it may have been a dream come true for Shay’s teen self, but the woman she’s become doesn’t know what to make of this.

Shay’s contentment is challenged, and she’s determined to shake things up a bit. But will she find the excitement she’s looking for, or will Shay realize she prefers her quiet and predictable life? One thing is certain: Life in the Bucklin family is never boring.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This was a really nice, refreshing book to read. This is the first Bloomfield novel I have read, and I will sure check out the others in this series! After her husband passed away and her daughter left for college, Bethany moved back to her home town. She moved into the house her inlaws left she and her husband. The problem was, her mother in laws things were still there, along with everything Bethany and her family had accumulated over the years, plus all of the bargains Bethany finds shopping. What a mess her house was!

I can kinda relate to Bethany, though mine house isn’t quite that bad! I like to save things, even if I haven’t used them in years because there might come a day I need it! After reading this book, I realize even more what that things are just that, they are things and you can get rid of them!! Only with Bethany, she had her mom and the garden club is pushing Bethany to rid her home of the extra stuff. And then there is Pete. I love the title of this book. I thought it was a funny title, until I read the book, and it fits perfectly! I really like Pete, he was the guy everyone is looking for. But he is a confirmed bachelor and looks like he is gonna stay that way! I highly recommend For the Love of Pete. You will sure enjoy it. And especially if you are middle age, because the characters are all in that age range. This story is calming, peaceful, enjoyable, and just plain good!

ABOUT THE BOOKS

Priscilla Slater goes to her ten-year high school reunion with equal parts dread and eager anticipation. Even though she’s a successful owner of a chain of hair salons and no longer has the mousy brown hair, crooked teeth, and discount-store wardrobe, she still feels like the ugly duckling. But when she arrives at the reunion, Priscilla soon realizes that her old classmates aren’t exactly as she remembers them. With humor and a just a touch of sassiness, Priscilla finds herself facing her own truth—and she may be surprised at what she discovers.

As Priscilla Slater’s 15-year class reunion approaches, she decides to attend out of curiosity… and to flaunt her latest achievement—taking her business to a national level with the possibility of a TV show. As if getting ready for the event and putting up with the pranks of her former classmates isn’t enough, Priscilla’s hometown visit is further complicated by her parents’ separation. With the once-solid sanctuary of her home broken at the foundation, there’s only one thing Priscilla’s parents can agree on: no matter what sort of accolades their daughter receives as a hair stylist, she’s not living up to her potential. Eager to escape the painful reality of her childhood home, Priscilla bolts as soon as a call from New York brings good news: her offer to purchase one of the best salons in the country is likely to come through. But returning to New York means returning to Tim, Priscilla’s best friend and business pal who has been impatiently suggesting their relationship should be more than a friendship. Despite her recent achievements, will Priscilla learn that success doesn’t always result in popularity—or love?

Priscilla Slater shows up at her 20-year reunion as a national celebrity. Her hair salon dynasty has skyrocketed, and to top it off, she has her own line of hair products. She has become a huge success with the “Ms. Prissy Big Hair” line that lets women with the thinnest of locks get the coveted “big hair” look so popular in the South. Her classmates have finally come to terms with adulthood, but they’re handling it with the grace of a Southern woman wearing white after Labor Day. It’s just downright awkward! Asserting the maturity that her classmates have often lacked, Priscilla holds her head high. But she can’t ignore everything. When she catches her mother in the arms of her former high school principal, Priscilla can’t get out of town fast enough. Eager to get back to her more comfortable life, Priscilla runs head on into an ultimatum: Tim tells her they’re not getting any younger—as if she has to be reminded.

Pretty Is As Pretty DoesABOUT PRETTY IS AS PRETTY DOES

Priscilla Slater goes to her 10-year high school reunion as a successful business woman. Even though she got rid of her mousy brown hair, swapped out her discount store wardrobe for designer clothes, and now has perfectly straight teeth, she can’t get past feeling like the ugly duckling. Her parents’ disapproval for her choice of careers—running a chain of hair salons—deepens her self-doubt. She experiences self-discovery and learns that things aren’t always as they seem.

During the reunion, one woman passes out after starving herself for the event. The class beauty queen appears to have more self-confidence than ever until her ex shows up with his new wife. The reunion organizer has taken her responsibilities to a whole new level that makes the Marines look like Boy Scouts, while her husband drinks too much and makes a fool of himself. The man she always dreamed about being with finally gives her some attention, but when she finds out more about him, she realizes he’s not worth her time. These realizations boost her self-confidence, but now she has to deal with her best friend Tim’s new feelings for her.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Debby Mayne brings us the stories of three women as they prepare for their tenth high school class reunion. Each woman has her own fears about the reunion and all it will entail. Anyone who has ever attended or decided not to attend such a reunion will relate to Trudy, Priscilla, and Laura. One woman lived up the class vote as “Most Likely to Succeed,” but not in the way her classmates may have predicted. The other two are frantic about what others will think. Laura hides her anxiety by controlling everything that will happen at the reunion, too afraid to let go and let others help. Trudy is ashamed of her divorce, and is determined to live up to her image as Homecoming Queen and Miss Piney Point even if it kills her, and it almost does. Through

Join Trudy, Priscilla and Laura as they get ready for their the year high school reunion. Each of these ladies are bringing their own past, heartaches, fears, and everything else going on with them to this reunion. And each is certainly worried about what others will think of them. Laura seems to think Priscilla has a perfect life, but can’t get along with anyone who wants to help plan the reunion, so she ends up doing most of it herself. What is really her problem anyway? And Priscilla runs a small chain of beauty salons but she’s gained weight and thinks shes too fat. Yeah right, fat in a size 8?? And Trudy Homecoming Queen and Miss Piney Point Trudy is now divorced, so what will people think of her situation?

Pretty is as Pretty Does is an awesome read from Debby Mayne. The characters are witty and believable, doing just what ladies do when facing long time friends, or in this case classmates. I really liked Tim and was really wanting Priscilla to make a go of it with him. I couldn’t put this book down once I started reading it. It is fun and enjoyable and I laughed a lot and had tears at times as well. If you are looking for a light, refreshing and fantastic read, I really want to encourage you to pick up a copy of Debby Mayne’s Pretty is as Pretty Does. You are certainly in for a read treat with this book!

Book Blurb
After years of looking for a place to belong, Paula Andrews finally finds her niche in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Her soap and candle shop flourishes, and her friendship with the Papadopoulos family gives her the love and support she never got from her own family.

The only thing missing is a romance—or in the grand hopes of the Papadopoulos family, a proper marriage. Preferably with Nick, their favorite son, currently serving in the Air Force. Paula, however, has doubts. After all, he’s been gone a long time and loves flying. Their lives have grown apart. Would he still feel anything for her?

When Nick comes home on leave, sparks fly, and not just with Paula. Nick’s father wants him home, helping with the family sponge-diving business. His mother wants him back in the family, back in church. Nick just wants Paula . . . and the Air Force.

So who’s going to give in first? And what will it mean for their love and future?

My Review

Sweet Baklava……by Debby Mayne

Paula Andrews owns a Soap and Candle Shop in Tarpon Springs Florida. After moving around all of her life with her mother, she has finally found a place to belong and her shop is booming with business, especially after she started selling her products on the internet.

Nick Papadopoulos will be home soon from the Air Force and he knows his father will pressure him to change his mind about re-enlisting and joining the family business. The decision might be easier if he knew how Paula felt about him. Maybe he would find that answer when he arrived home.

First of all, I don’t think this book no where near is as bad as the reviews that’s it has gotten. I enjoyed the story actually. I liked the idea of Nick and Paula’s relationship heating up after so many years, and that they come from completely different backgrounds. And I love Nick’s family and the close relationship they have, it reminds me of my own family. I did get frustrated a bit about the ins and outs of the relationship through the entire book, and then at the end, boom, it just happens all of a sudden. But Overall Sweet Baklava was a good summer read with a wonderful family to get to know and a sweet couple that finally found their way back to each other. I encourage you to grab a copy of this book and read it, and see what you think!
