MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Christmas at Curwood’s Castle (by Melissa Wardwell) Even though A Christmas party at Curwood Castle should have been Angel Davis’ Cinderella moment, it just didn’t happen.

A Castle for Christmas (by Susan K. Beatty) While Sadie Foster abhors wealth. Will Randolph works works for her wealthy father.

Christmas in the Cotswolds (by Stacy T. Simmons) Do opposites attract, will the romantic castle, and dashing duke be the undoing of Victoria’s plans?

These are the stories I read in this book so far. Each involves a castle, love and hopefully a happy ever after. I enjoyed these three stories so much and I plan to read the others during the Christmas season.

I loved these stories. Each story is different, yet they were alike. I enjoyed each journey and I loved the castles. And I was so nervous with the Happy ever afters for each of the couples. It just didn’t look like it would happen. None of them did. But they are all a sweet story that I will re-read again before Christmas because I love the sweet endings. If you are looking for a good Christmas read, this one is fabulous. With six short stories in one book, it makes it easy to read one story and stop. I love reading these kinds of books this time of year. This one is getting Five Stars from me.

Elnora Island is Amara and Dante’s story and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. The two have their work cut out for them because of problems going in with their families for a good while. I loves watching their budding romance though. And since they could use help it gets interesting when Beth and Scott tried acting as matchmakers and suddenly found themselves attracted to each other as well. The story deals with some age old drama between both Amara and Dante’s families. I think Wardwell does a nice job dealing with the issues than came up. And I enjoyed the way Ms. Wardell weaves faith in her characters lives as well.

If you enjoy light clean reads anytime, this is a wonderful story for you. You won’t be disappointed. I give this one 5 stars. Hope you enjoy!

“Life never goes as planned.”
That is the understatement of the century. 2020 has been the perfect example of it. Around the world, plans were made on January 1st to do this or that. Plans to use the year as a spring board for something new, better, or just a change.

Then that virus dashed all those plans. We were shut out from the world with only our books, our televisions, and our families. Some battled the shut down alone, while others had a house full (one friend of mine had eleven people in her house and only one was not her child). I know a couple of single friends who decided to stay at one house for the few weeks that Michigan was closed. Others, like myself, may not have done as well as everyone thought they were. Brave face and all. But we survived. We persevered. We adapted.

“Heart Pressed” is my covid story. It is about the unexpected way life change while you are in the middle of making plans for the future. How some changes are wonderful and rewarding, while others will bring you to the ground, begging for mercy.

Take Amara, for instance. She had a plan and put things into motion to make that plan come to fruition, but God (don’t you love those two words?) had a different plan and took hold of her heart. He softened it, molded it, made it a place where He could reside. Then life came knocking. The one person she thought would be there, couldn’t be, but God (there it is again) gave her someone to count on, hold her hand, and help her through the storms. He showed her that she wasn’t alone in this world by surrounding her with new people who loved her and cared for her.

(Disclaimer – I know God didn’t do anything, but we all have those stories in our own lives where God intervened on our behalf.)

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Scrumptious Independence is the second book in The Independence Island Series and what a great read this one is. Beth has lost the only person she can share her dreams with, her Gram. As she tries go follow her Gram’s wishes, she moves to the cottage on Merriweather Island. But is this the right move for her?

My heart went out to Beth for the way her mom and sisters treated her. They are definitely not my favorite characters, but yet they are important to give the book flavor! Beth was a Sweetheart, and though she had disappointments on the island, she also found her heart full of joy and happiness working with her food truck. And Scott in the mix was a nice added feature. I love Scott as well and the times he and Beth spent together were pure delight for me! I love the sweet memories they both have of Gram, such a beloved woman and was always full of advice.

Scrumptious Independence was very well written, a perfect beach story, and I love Merriweather Island and was happy to visit again in this book. My only thing was the ending, I wanted more details on the bad guys and details on what happened to them instead of just a brief mention of the happenings. Maybe this will come later in the series. Overall this is a great read and I highly recommend Scrumptious Independence to anyone looking for a good, light clean read. It can be a fast read, or you can read it a little slower like I did to better grasp everything the book offers.

“Lord, I don’t know how I can keep doing this.”

That was my prayer one evening in 2019 as I made my way to praise practice. I knew that writing was something God had called me to (because He never seems to call you to do something you enjoy) but the finances were just not there to publish another book. I felt lost in the uncertainty of the path moving forward and I needed a light. I had just shared all my concerns with my parents and left with my dad’s words ringing in my head. Are you writing to gain notoriety or are you writing for God?

The next morning, CelebrateLit had a post looking for submissions for a new and innovative series. Hope burst within me and I know I needed more information. I followed instructions and spoke with Sandy Barela and Chautona Havig. The more I was told, the more excited I became because I knew I needed to be part of this collection.

Ideas were hatched, characters began to talk, and a book proposal was sent. I continued to work on the development of characters and the mobile business knowing in my heart that God had given me this opportunity. I wouldn’t do things halfway. And when the confirmation email came, I was ready to share the beautiful story and characters that developed.

Beth is a food truck proprietor, so that means she spends most of her time cooking. In an effort to grow her recipes, I have been making videos of me cooking some of our family’s favorites as well as raiding my mom’s recipe box. The result is some amazing food to share.

Every book, pre-order card, and my YouTube channel has recipes on it. And so will this tour.

With it being summertime, our family doesn’t want those heavy meals so sometimes chips and sandwiches are all we need in the evenings. One favorite is my chicken salad.

Now, this recipe is easily substituted with other things like however, you like your chicken.

Melissa’s Chicken Salad

Feeds 4 (unless you have big eaters.)

2 cans of chicken (you can use cooked but this is quick and easy

1/2 cup of red grapes – halved

1/2 cup celery – diced

Make sure you rinse all of this well as you prep the salad

Dressing

1 1/2 cup of miracle whip (you can use mayo)

1/2 tsp mustard powder

1 tbsp white vinegar

1 tsp of sugar

Mix everything together and serve on your favorite bread option or on a bed of lettuce. I like mine in a pita pocket or on lettuce. This time it was with a pita pocket with a side of lightly salted chips and a pickle.

Now, just a little side note, you can add what ever veggie or fruit you like. Apples and cucumbers would be a great addition as well. So, don’t feel like you have to do things exactly like I do. Make it your own.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Dance and Be Glad follows two other books, of which I understand reading those two first would help understand this book better. But for me it was a really nice read as a stand alone. Jillian Matthews doesn’t have life very easy. The stress and emotions of being a widowed mom, taking care of her dance studio and her daughter doesn’t leave a lot of time for anything else or anyone else. Dr. Michael Emerson was happy with his life as an ER doctor and mission work, leaving him no room for anyone else in his life. But then the two meet up again.

Melissa Wardwell writes a sweet romance that deals with issues people face every day. The death of a spouse, a messy divorce, throwing all of your time and energy into starting life over after your former life is ripped out from under you. Facing stressful situations and emotions that you don’t want to deal with. But then life can change, just as it does for these two characters. I enjoyed the way Ms. Wardwell develops interesting and intriguing characters that make the story fun and entertaining, and also shows that God can change out circumstances. This is truly a story of love, forgiveness and second chances. If you are looking for a nice, clean and fun summer read, I recommend Dance and Be Glad for you.

I am an independently published author of Christian romance.
I wear many hats from one day to the next. I am a devoted wife, basketball and dance mother, teacher, taxi service, friend, caregiver, daughter, sister, and now, published author. Seeing all that is enough to make my head spin. But more importantly, I am the Daughter of the Most High King.

I was raised in and still reside in a little farm town in Mid- Michigan called Corunna. It’s quiet and simple, just the way I like it. If I can’t live out in the country among the corn fields and trees then living in this small town works for me. My husband and I have been together since high school and have 3 children, all of whom we homeschool. It has been quite the journey, but I couldn’t ask for a better life.

I decided to give writing a try because I needed something to occupy my down time, but after reading my first draft of my first book, What God Brings Together, I then understood that God had a much bigger plan. God does not give His children a desire just so that it can go to waste. I never anticipated the journey God would put me on through writing, but I am excited to see what He has in mind for the future.

I have always felt a call to reach out to women and mothers, to encourage them in their lives. So naturally, all my stories revolve around women who are mothers: single mothers, widowed mothers, young mothers, married mothers, and even women who have a mother’s heart but no children of her own.

My greatest hope is that each story touches your heart, gives you hope, or just gives you a moment away from the chaos of life. Lord, knows we have earned it.

When I wrote the first book in this series, “What God Brings Together”, it wasn’t supposed to become a series. It has seemed to have a mind of its own and is spiraling into other books.

You met Dr. Michael Emerson in the first book as the third wheel to Emma and Ryan’s crazy triangle. As soon as I finished it and read through it one last time, Mike’s character begged to have his own story. I felt bad giving such a nice guy a sad ending. So an idea formed for a story focused on him but it took me a while to decide on who his other half would be. I was sitting in front of the dance studio two of my kids attend, and it hit me. A Dance teacher and studio owner. From there the story went out of control- in a good way. The dance studio is the actual studio my kids dance at, and much of the descriptions of the location are the same as the space. The town is even the real town this studio is in. It is such a quiet place and I love it.

I live in the area this series takes place. The county has a funny name as it is a Native American name – Shiawassee. It is nothing but small towns and farm land. New Lothrop, the main location for this story, has a population of approx. 600. I spend many hours there because of dance and I have grown to love the quiet little farm town.

I like to bring light to actual business in some of my work, so when I chose to write in Infinity Dance Company I had to include the location. There is also a neat little coffee shop that I talk about in this book that is also an actual coffee shop.

I am all about promoting local business, so if I can plug a cool business in my books, I will.

You will see a bit more of another character from the first book, Tiffany, and you’ll get some insight into her story as well but you won’t get the full picture until the release of “I Know the Plans” which is set to come out no later than next spring – hopefully. I also introduce a new character in “Dance and Be Glad” whose story is heartbreaking but you won’t know much more until book four “Redeemed Through Grace” comes out in 2018.

“Dance and Be Glad” is about finding joy in the middle of uncertainty and the scary moments in life. We can let the sudden changes bring us down or we can look at them as an opportunity to learn something new. I have witnessed a lot of tragedy and sudden losses in my personal life to learn that God still has me in His hands even when I feel like my world is crumbling. My prayer is that each reader can have a similar revelation.
