Where I Was Planted
by Heather Norman Smith
ABOUT THIS BOOK
In the spring of 1961, ten-year-old Nate Dooley, also known as Weenie, has a revelation—his father is not a good one. Inspired by National Geographic, his favorite thing next to the Bible storybook his mother gave him before she died, Nate plans to leave his father and their home in the Smokies to set out on adventure. When he discovers his father has left him first, it takes the help of a stray dog, some kind neighbors, a one-man-band, letters from a long-lost aunt, and a new understanding of God, to figure out he isn’t really alone. He’ll also discover that he must leave Copper Creek after all. Will he ever be able to come back?

Fathers may leave, but our Heavenly Father is faithful, and he has a plan for all of us.
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
This was a really good story, different from most I read. I enjoyed that it written in the early 1960’s because I was a young girl then, and I enjoy stories in that era. This book is kinda different but I did enjoy it. Nate has wanted to leave home for a while, be sure he didn’t care for his dad. But his dad had other plans, to leave first! What will life bring these two, especially Nate.
Nate was so young to leave home, I had trouble like his dad, he should be looking after his son. But it seems like God had other plans. Even through his hardest times, with the stray dog helping, his aunts letter, and other things Nate endured, God was always with him. When Nate really understands who God is, for me it was such a touching moment, but it didn’t come easy, it was a ling growing experience. I think the main thing I get from this story is our relationship with the Lord, and are we really serving Him. This young boy shows how it happened for him, and if you enjoy stories like this, I encourage you to pick up this book and check it out.

I am an author of inspirational novels and devotions. My goal is to use the written word to entertain and encourage, while illuminating the redemptive love of God.
What can I tell you about my life? Here are just a few things…
I grew up in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina, and was raised by loving parents. I have two wonderful sisters- one older and one younger- and will assert without hesitation that Middle Child Syndrome is a perfectly legitimate condition.
As a young adult I ventured an astonishing 43 miles from my childhood home, to settle in the suburbs of the big city of Winston-Salem, NC. As the daughter of a pastor, I spent much of my early twenties attempting to prove the stereotypes about preacher’s kids.
In my mid-twenties, the promise of Proverbs 22:6 began to be evident in my life. As I trusted Him, God blessed me with a husband, Alex, who is also my best friend, and shortly after with three beautiful children- Elizabeth, Sarah, and Daniel- that bring joy (and testing) to my life each day. We are blessed to also share our home with a foster son who is teaching us much about love and life.
Our home is in the town of Lewisville (just outside the big city of Winston-Salem), which I consider an idyllic place to raise a family. We have two cats and two dogs that add to the chaos in our home. Along with writing and spending time with my family, I enjoy singing about Jesus and crafting.
I consume an alarming amount of black coffee and Diet Dr. Pepper.
