Book:  I AM

Author: Diane Stortz

Genre:  Juvenile nonfiction, Bible stories

Release Date: 2016

Creator, Comforter, Healer, Friend. God’s names tell us who He is, what He is like, and what He does. This beautiful book covers 40 of the Bible’s many names and descriptive titles for God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, including Jehovah Jireh, The Lord My Shepherd, Immanuel, Rabbi, and I AM.
Through Bible stories, short devotions, and prayers, children discover the meaning of each name and how it relates to their lives. As they develop understanding of God’s character and His love for them, children will grow to know, love, and trust the great I AM more and more.
”Those who know your name put their trust in you.” –Psalm 9:10

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS CHILDREN’S BOOK

I Am is a beautiful Bible story book inside and out. I really like that it teaches children the many names of Jesus. Each lesson has scripture and a Bible story that tells about each name and its meaning and how it relates to their lives. I also like that there are several stories that I don’t see much in children’s Bible story books. The Day of Pentecost is a fun and interesting story that I’m not sure I have seen in any children’s story books, and so think the children will have a great time learning this. There are several more, but I will let you find them when you are reading.

Not only do I like these stories, the illustrations on each page are stunningly beautiful! As I read page after page, I couldn’t help but think of little one as they had the stories read to them, looking at these beautiful pictures. What fun it is to have such pretty pictures to look at. And Oh, the stories your child will be able to tell just from looking at those pictures. I highly recommend I Am by Diane Stortz!

More from Diane

You can often guess someone’s age by considering their name. Diane, for example, was popular in the 1950s, so . . . that tells you something about me.

But God’s personal name? Well, it’s ageless. Just like Him.

When Moses met God at the burning bush and received the task of leading the Israelites out of Egypt, he wasn’t exactly thrilled at first. He peppered God with questions, including, “When I tell the people that I met you here and you gave me this assignment, they’re going to want to know your name. What should I tell them?”

The Israelites had just about forgotten who the God of their fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob was.

But God hadn’t forgotten them. Not at all. God told Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. . . . Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you’” (Exodus 3:14).

I AM WHO I AM. I always have been. I will always be. I will never change.

Choosing a book title is rarely easy, and choosing a title for this book about the names of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit took a long time. I couldn’t be more grateful to the Tommy Nelson publishing team who developed and settled on the title I AM: 40 Reasons to Trust God.

My prayer for every child who reads this book and every family that goes through the book together, and for myself: May we all grow mightily in our understanding of who God is and our relationship with Him! As Psalm 9:10 says, “Those who know your name put their trust in you.”

Curl up together and experience the Bible in a fresh, new way. Young children will enjoy pointing to and naming objects on each page for early learning. Most important, they’ll discover favorite, age-appropriate Bible stories, with Scripture verses and short prayers that also hide God’s Word in young hearts.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS CHILDREN’S BIBLE

I really like this little Say and Pray Bible for little ones. The Bible itself is a board book, so it’s great for your one year old!! No tearing pages. It is just the right size for little ones to hold. The illustrations by Sarah Ward, in this Bible are so precious and children will love looking at the pictures in their own Bible. The stories are short, but they are a great introduction to the Bible for this small age. I am all about teaching children about the Bible, even before they walk and talk. They can always listen and look at pictures. I can see children grabbing this little Bible off the shelves. And they will have a Bible of their own to carry to church. What a great way to teach children to always carry their Bibles to church. This Say and Pray Bible has so many lessons, you don’t want to miss any of them.

Diane Stortz has the cutest Bible’s and Bible story books for little ones, and this is one of her cutest ones. Sarah Ward does an excellent job with the illustrations. They are cute, cuddly, and just the right look for your precious children! If you have small children, in the neighbor hood of 0 to 3, this is a great way to start teaching them about Jesus. I highly recommend this Bible to you!

More from Diane

Once upon a time there was a little boy who loved his books. Long before he could talk, he loved turning pages, looking at the pictures, hearing his grandpa name the objects in the pictures, and pointing to those objects.

And once upon a time there was a grandma looking for a truly age-appropriate Bible storybook for that same little boy. And the best ones she found still contained too many words.

And she wondered . . .

Why not write a Bible storybook that could be designed especially for babies, toddlers, and young preschoolers? With the shortest stories you’ve ever seen, and with labeled objects and people in the illustrations that little ones could point to and name?

That’s how my book Say & Pray Bible began.

I wanted a book with age-appropriate, SHORT Bible stories. Babies and toddlers LOVE turning pages. Listening to long stories has to wait until they’re older.

I wanted short Bible verses and prayers to go with the very short stories.

And I wanted the illustrations to have lots of LABELED objects to encourage little ones to point and name.

Some days you might just read the stories. Another day, just the verses. Yet another reading, just the prayers. And some days, you might just talk about the pictures.

Most children begin to say single words with meaning, always nouns, at 12–18 months. This is the stage when children can point to—and eventually name—photos or illustrations of objects in their books.

Around 24 months, children begin to say two-word, noun plus verb sentences, such as “Cat run.” In time, sentences become longer and include adjectives and adverbs, but no function words: “Big cat run fast.” Last to develop is the use of function words (such as the and an) and more complex sound combinations and sentence forms.

Human beings seem to be hardwired to acquire language and learn to speak—evidence that, as the Bible says, we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139). But there’s a lot we can do to help little ones develop language skills and expose them to God’s Word at the same time!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

God’s Word to Dream On is a beautiful book inside and out. With over 50 Bedtime Bible stories, parents have lots of reading time with their children. The stories start in the Old Testament and goes through to the end of the New Testament, with a Bedtime Blessings page at the end of each story, giving your child one truth to focus on as they go to sleep. I love this really neat feature. And I love all of the wonderful stories and beautiful illustrations. However, I do with there were more stories about sin and God’s grace and redemption. The way the stories here are so simply written, these are topics that surely need to be told throughout the book. And some of these stories were not included, or wasn’t deep enough for me. But this is really where parents can add to these stories and enlighten their child more deeply than what the story tells. You and your child can have lots of fun, and these stories could be a really nice learning time mire them.

This is a beautiful book inside and out. I reviewed the ebook version, so I didn’t feel the full beauty of this book, but you can truly see the most beautiful illustrations throughout the entire book. Diane Le Feyer does such an amazing job with all of the illustrations, from the front cover to the back! I can just imagine the stories your child can make up just by looking at the amazing pictures. This beautiful book can be yours too! Check it out, and have fun reading with your child.

More from Diane

A happy bedtime contributes so much to a child’s welfare. Perhaps a warm bath, a story, some cuddles with mom or dad, and a prayer equal a time-tested bedtime routine. These last moments of the day, done right, create a wonderful sense of family security and love for children as they fall asleep.

Bedtime also gives us a wonderful opportunity to help children grow secure in God’s love. I wrote God’s Words to Dream On for just that reason. The stories not only create an overview of the Bible’s big story, but they focus on God’s love and care—the ways He shows us His power and protection and the reasons we can trust Him. Each story includes a simple Bible verse to remember, a simple prayer, and a bedtime blessing for your child.

Young children thrive on routine, and I think a Bible story at bedtime might be one of the best!

Encountering God’s Heart For You by Diane Stortz

Encountering-Gods-heart-for-you-FB-Banner

About the Book

Book:  Encountering God’s Heart For You

Author: Diane Stortz

Genre:  Christian non-fiction, Devotional

Release Date: September 3, 2019

Enountering-Gods-Heart-for-You-768x1024God put the Bible together for you, and he wants you to understand and know him better. But sometimes you can get lost in the details and miss the big picture. The Bible is more than just a collection of wisdom, instructions, and history. It’s one unified story of the incredible love of God!

Encountering God’s Heart for You
takes you on a daily journey through the full narrative of Scripture in a year. And in the process, it will draw you nearer to God as you discover his love and compassion. It won’t cover every verse, or even every chapter, in the Bible, but by the time you’re through, you’ll have a strong grasp of what the Bible is all about.

Reading Scripture isn’t just a way to collect information or check something off a to-do list. Let this book bring you into God’s presence to better understand the Bible’s story of love, sacrifice, and redemption as he draws you to himself.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is the first book I have read from this author. This one is a Devotional, and its different than anything I have read before. It is for 365 days and it takes you through the entire Bible in those 365 days. This wouldn’t be something to use instead of reading through the Bible, but it makes a great devotion to read each day, and you will have an idea of what is in the Bible.

I think this would be great for a new Christian,  it would be a way the introduce them to God’s word with explanations of what each book us about. I also think this is a good one for someone wanting short devotions to read, because they are short, but very valuable. I highly recommend this Devotional. There are so many out there to choose from, so take a look at this one before you purchase!

More from Diane

Twenty years ago, I was invited to join a women’s Bible study group planning to read through the Bible in a year to get to know God.

Although I’d been a Christian for many years and had read many parts of the Bible and used the Bible in my work as an editor, I had never actually read the entire Bible.

I joined the group. We read about three chapters a day and met weekly on Monday nights to discuss what we’d read.

I’ve repeated that experience in various forms most years since then, and it has changed my life in so many ways. (Getting to know God does that, right?)

I’m convinced that one of the most loving things we can do for someone else is to invite and encourage her to become a lifelong reader of the Word, and to read it together.

That’s how I view my new devotional, Encountering God’s Heart for You. It’s an invitation to every woman to pick up her Bible, read along with me, and look together for all the ways God teaches us about himself on every page.
