ABOUT THIS BOOK

Book 1 in the new Amish Roads seriesElizabeth is at a crossroad. She’s been given the chance to experience life outside of her community, away from the responsibility to care for her eight younger siblings, but Elizabeth Bontrager can’t decide which road to take. Gosen has its charms and pressures, but Paradise, Pennsylvania, sounds . . . well, like paradise. And it’s also home to her Englisch friend, Paula. Decision made. Elizabeth is Paradise bound.

But will the small town live up to its name? When Elizabeth meets Paula’s friend, Bruce, she quickly learns he wants more than a friendship. And the same might be true of Saul Miller, her new boss at the country story that sells Amish products to the Englisch community. As the two compete for her attention, Elizabeth is surprised to realize she misses her family and becomes even more uncertain about where she belongs. She has a choice to make: return home or embrace this new life and possibly a new love?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is another awesome story by Barbara Cameron! And I was surprised and pleased to hear from my friends from a previous series by Barbara, Matthew and Jenny Bontrager! In A Road Unknown, Elizabeth leaves her Amish home and community in Indiana and moves into an apartment in Paradise, Pennsylvania, with her Englisch friend, Paula. I felt so sorry for Elizabeth because she was shy, getting on a big bus taking her miles away from home, where she only knew one person. It was a difficult trip for her, but Elizabeth was so determined. And as it ended up, multiple time, God clearly shows Elizabeth that He has a plan for her, and she trusted Him. I really liked the two carved birds she brought as a reminder of God’s love and grace. Elizabeth meets many new friends and some family that she grows to love, but you will need to read the book to find out if the pressures from home calls her back to her old Amish community and a large family that think they need her.

Barbara Cameron is one of the best Amish fiction writers in my book! If you enjoy a good Amish story, this is one you don’t want to miss. Now I can’t wait for the next book in this series to read.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Tess has taken some ribbing from her fellow officer, Logan, for her quilting hobby. He finds it hard to align the brisk professional officer he patrols with during the day with the one who quilts in her off-time. Besides, he’s been trying to get to know her better and he’d like to be seeing her during those few nights a week she spends with her quilting guild. Then one afternoon Tess and Logan visit her aunt in the nursing home, and the woman acts agitated when Tess covers her with the story quilt. Aunt Susan is attempting to communicate a message to them about Tess’s uncle. There’s a story behind this quilt, they realize, one that may lead them to a serial killer. Will they have a chance to have a future together, or will the killer choose Tess for his next victim before they find him?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Scraps of Evidence is another book in Abingdon Press Series Quilts of Love. This book is a suspense/mystery because there is a murder involved, and who done it questions to answer. Tess and Logan are teamed up to solve this mystery, but there was also a growing attraction between these two detectives. I enjoyed getting to know the creative characters and the work they did searching for the serial killer. And of course there is a quilt involved, and this one was a quilt of Tess’ aunt. But I don’t want to give the story away, so I highly recommend you run out and get your copy of Scraps of Evidence and find out what the end of the story is all about! I think you will enjoy this one just as much as I did!

ABOUT HEART IN HAND

Heart in Hand smAnna, a knitter and the oldest of the three cousins, watches the wedding of Naomi and Nick the following fall and remembers her own wedding. A widow, Anna thinks about how short her time with her husband was; as she looks at her grandmother, she wonders if Leah is recalling her own marriage. Her grandparents were married for a longer time than she and her husband were, but Anna and her grandmother lost their spouses only months apart three years ago. Perhaps this is why they have always felt so close. Both know how hard it is to be a widow, to go on with life.

Gideon Beiler approaches Anna one day. Gideon is a wonderful, caring man. He, too, has suffered a loss – his wife, Mary, died and left him to raise their only daughter. Spring is a time for new beginnings, for love to bloom as nature thaws the earth and makes it come alive again after the long cold winter. As love begins to warm Anna’s heart again, she’s afraid to chance losing someone she has come to care so much about. Her grandmother tells her she believes Gideon may be the man God has sent for her to have a second chance at love.

Stitches in time…and place: three cousins who laugh and love and learn about life together with their warm and wise grandmother, Leah, in their special shop. Two generations of Amish women who are bound by strong threads which bind them to their creativity and their community.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I love Barbara Cameron’s books! And I have been waiting on this third book in A Stitch in Time Series. Heart in Hand takes us back to the Amish community in Paradise, Pennsylvania and the little shop that grandmother Leah, and cousins Naomi,  Anna and Mary Katherine run each day. Naomi is all excited about her upcoming wedding to Nick, while Anna is still grieving the loss of her husband Samuel. At the same time, an Amish neighbor Gideon is grieving the loss of his wife Mary, and trying to raise his small daughter Sarah Rose. It is when Gideon and Sarah Rose comes into the shop to purchase a craft for Sarah Rose that the attraction began between Gideon and Anna. And you can find out all about it in this wonderful book, Heart in Hand by Barbara Cameron.

I thoroughly enjoy this wonderful Amish fiction. I love the little shop and the ladies that run the place day by day. The make is such a wonderful, homey place to come to for craft needs. The characters are special, realistic and believable, and the community and its people draw you into their story in a way that you live the story with them! And Anna and Gideon were adorable, I love their characters, and Sarah Rose and the part she plays in the story as well. The story all comes together in a wonderful way and it is one that you will remember for a long time after you read it.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good clean heartwarming story. I would suggest that you read the first two books in A Stitch in Time Series first, just to get to know all of the family and comminuty, and their lifestyle. And if you enjoy Amish fiction, this book is a must!

The Heart's Journey

ABOUT THE HEART’S JOURNEY

Naomi knows she should be excited about her upcoming wedding but she  remains unmoved. Not only are her feelings for her fiance lackluster but  she believes he may see her more as a servant than a partner. And he’s  so controlling. Is it too late to back out of the marriage? While  praying for God’s guidance, Naomi takes a break from her duties as a  quilter and travels with her grandmother to Pinecraft, Florida. Along  the way Naomi finds herself becoming attracted to Nick, their Englisch  driver and friend, and the two begin to fall in love. The journey soon  becomes one in which Naomi explores her most secret dream for love. But  can she veer off the “safe” path she’d envisioned for her life to marry  Nick?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

The Heart’s Journey by Barbara Cameron

The Heart’s Journey continues with Leah and her family in their little shop, Stitches in Time. This book focuses on Leah’s granddaughter Naomi. Naomi plans to marry John, but she is just not satisfied with the way he is acting. He is so controlling he even walks by the store every day to make sure Naomi is where she is suppose to be. So just imagine John’s surprise when he finds out that Naomi is going with her grandmother to the little community of Pinecraft. Flordia for a vacation. John is definitely not happy with Naomi, and it thrilled me when she wouldn’t even tell him good-by! He deserved that!

Barbara Cameron continues to give her readers Amish lifestyle at its best. In this book, she gives the real issues Amish people deal with from day to day. The spousal abuse with how John treated Naomi is an example of how Barbara’s books are so realistic, because these things happen, even in the Amish communities. She just gives Amish stories a little twist that is different! And I love her books.

The Heart’s Journey is a wonderful heartwarming read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys Christian fiction and especially Amish stories. And I can’t forget to mention, I appreciate the way Barbara incorporates how we should live our lives for the Lord, and always put Him first in our lives.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK!

Time for Peace  by Barbara Cameron

I enjoyed that this book picks up the characters from the first book, Jenny and Matthew. These two young people were given a second chance at love after Matthew’s first wife passed away leaving him with three children to raise on his own. Coming home to get well after being serve injured while overseas with her job, Jenny and Matthew meet again, fall in love all over again and marry.

In this book we follow Jenny as others in the Amish community have babies, but it seems that all fails with Jenny and Matthew when trying to have a child of their own. Jenny loves Matthew’s three children as though they were her own, but she so wants a little one of her own with her new husband.

A lot of this story was Jenny being upset about a letter she found from her dad to her grandmother years earlier. She didn’t understand why her grandmother was on her dad’s side and not Jenny’s years back when they spent summers in the Amish community. I did think Jenny took this a little bit overboard, and it went on just a little too much throughout the book, but I guess it was needed for the story ending.

Overall, this was a great book and I thoroughly it. Actually this is a wonderful series to read and enjoy. The entire series deals with issues that people face today. And I appreciate that throughout the book the author stresses the need for trusting God with their struggles and difficulties in their life.

I encourage you to grab a copy of the three books in this series to read and enjoy for yourself. This is just a good, clean, enjoyable series of books to read.

A Time to Heal by Barbara Cameron  Book Review

Publisher: Abingdon Press
Publication Date: 03/2011
Binding: Paperback
ISBN-13: 9781426707643
Retail Price: $13.99
Author: Cameron, Barbara

What would it be like to walk in your barn and find a handsome Englischer in your barn loft? That’s what happened to Hannah Bontrager, an Amish young lady living in Paradise Pennsylvania. However, when Hannah’s brother Matthew walked in, he was not too happy about the situation.

Chris Matlock, an ex-soldier showed up at the Bontrager farm looking for his friend Jennie. He and Jennie met in a stateside hospital while recovering from injuries while overseas. Chris was hoping Jennie could help him overcome the emotional difficulties he was going through because of his war days. What he didn’t think he would do was lose his heart to a feisty young Amish woman named Hannah.

Hannah was not your normal Amish young woman because most  were quiet and let their husbands have most of the say. Hannah was spirited, headstrong and didn’t mind voicing her opinion, especially to this Englisch stranger. But there was one problem, Hannah found herself attracted to their new visitor. How could this be when she is Amish and he is an Englischer? And as if that isn’t enough, he is an ex-soldier, he fought in the war, and the Amish do not believe in violence. Will Hannah act on her secret feelings for this handsome guy? And will Chris stay around long enough to get to know this difficult but beautiful young woman who is not afraid to tell him about his faults.

As this heartwarming Amish story unfolds, you will be reunited with Matthew and Jenny Bontrager and their three kinder, Jenny’s grandmother Phoebe, Hannah and the small Amish community you fell in love with in the first book of Barbara Cameron’s Quilts of Lancaster County Series. I like the characters created by the author. Each character and their personalities fit the story making it more enjoyable and more lifelike. And  I really like the author’s style of writing, the plot is interesting enough to keep you reading, yet it is an easy flow heartwarming story. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Amish fiction, and if you like Christian fiction, go out and buy this book too. It will be a wonderful read for you, and well worth your time. I am looking forward to Barbara Cameron’s third book in the series “A Time for Peace” coming out in October 2011.

I want say a big Thank You to Abingdon Press for providing me a copy of this book to read and review. The review and opinions in this book are mine only. I was not expected or required to write a positive review of this book.

A Time To Love by Barbara Cameron Book Review

Publisher: Abingdon Press
Publication Date: 10/2010
Binding: Paperback
ISBN-13: 9781426707636
Retail Price: $14.99
Author: Cameron, Barbara

Jennie King is a television reporter reporting on the poverty of children in foreign countries. She was injured in a car bombing while on assignment, restricting her abilities to perform her job duties. While in the hospital, her Amish grandmother sent her a handmade quilt with a note welcoming Jennie to her Amish home for healing.

Matthew Bontrager, and Jennie fell in love as young teenagers one summer Jennie was visiting her grandmother, but unavoidable things happened and they hadn’t seen each other since, so the two went their own ways. Matthews life changed drastically when his wife died leaving him and their three children.

As Matthew and Jennie spend time together, Jennie wonders if God has different plans for her life than a television reporter, but someone has to watch out for the poverty of the children, and she is the only one they depend on. She is not sure she can leave her fast paced life as a traveling reporter to settle down in the Amish community. And there is another problem, Jennie is English and Matthew is Amish. They can’t be together for this reason alone, or can they?

I picked this book to read and review because I really like Amish fiction. This is my first reading of Barbara Cameron’s books, and he writing amazes me. To me, this book is a little different from most of the Amish stories I read. The Amish community in this book seems to me more understanding of the English ways, and not so condemning, even though they are strict in their beliefs. In enjoyed the awesome wisdom of Jennie’s Amish grandmother Phoebe . In every situation they faced, Phoebe’s words of wisdom were just the right advice. She was not bitter about life, though she has reasons to be. She was a fun loving grandmother and friend. I love the book cover, it fits the storyline of the book, and makes the characters look interesting.

This Book One in the Quilts of Lancaster County Series is a must read for those liking Amish fiction. You will fall in love with the heartwarming families, drawing you to the book until the last pages.
