PG-13 + M. A few scenes contain violence and sexual assault. These are

not major aspects of the book and don’t go into great detail, but these

experiences have repercussions for some of the characters that they have

to resolve.

Book Description:

A deeply poetic, riveting debut novel, The Kiminee Dream is a tale of Midwest charm and quirky characters, but with twists and turns that reveal a dark side you don’t see coming.

It’s true that odd things happen in Kiminee, Illinois. Lilacs bloom in winter. Gravel glows golden on occasion. The river sings as it wends through town. But this is normal for the tight-knit folks who call Kiminee home. So when auburn-tufted Carly Mae Foley learns to read at age two and masters multiplication at age three, the denizens take it in stride and embrace her with pride.

But all is not well in Carly Mae’s family. And when a twister roars though, it decimates their home, along with their emotional bonds, as her mother’s affair is exposed and her father goes missing. A determined grandmother, one-eared dog and generous benefactor come to the gifted child’s aid, but not everyone is rooting for her, and when an appalling crime occurs, long-held animosities boil over. No one can say whether the good folks of Kiminee will pull closer together—or be torn apart.

Influenced by folklore and magical realism, The Kiminee Dream is both hypnotic and endearing. If you like depth as well as whimsy, arresting twists, and details that stir your heart, you’ll love what is ultimately an eloquent exploration of acceptance and a tender tribute to the people of Illinois. Don’t delay. Experience this literary gem today.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

I enjoyed The Kiminee Dream very much. I loved the small town and all of its people. I did find myself reading some of the pages over to get the gist of the story and all of the characters. There is a bit of mystery going on in Kiminee,  thongs happening that doesn’t make sense but then it’s Kiminee, and this is the way things are. Holland does a wonderful job of keep readers attention through all of the twists and turns that show up. Like the disaster that blew its way into the small town revealing things not to be known. And for a debut novel, the writing is phenomenal. Holland is an author I would very much like to read again. One I think we will be hearing quite a bit about if this first book is any indication. If you enjoy a good small town story with a bit of a mystery and twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat, this is one you definitely want to try.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Content Rating PG. These are all stories that could be shared with a teenager, probably even a 10 year old.

Book Description:

A dash of whimsy and a dose of wisdom for our times.

If you like stories that call to mind a simpler era and words strung in lyrical ways, this collection will take you to a wondrous world where ordinary rules do not apply.

Podcasts, blogs, movies, vlogs—people spin yarns in many ways. But nothing dazzles like a story told in person. In the right teller’s hands, a simple narrative has unfathomable power. Such is the case with Aunt Truly, a spellbinding character in Laura McHale Holland’s novel The Kiminee Dream. She is old, but no one knows her age; she travels, but

where she goes is a mystery. One thing is certain: she collects stories.

The ten tales in this book present traditional and original stories Aunt Truly might tell you if you happened by her home, Windy Wood, where snow falls from November through April, and reality is open to interpretation. In her tales, you’ll meet a determined frog, clever seamstress, wise handyman, stolen wife and more unlikely heroes who face daunting trials. Some succeed; others do not. In the process, they are all transformed.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Kayla: A Modern-Day Princess by Deedee Cummings is a sweet book about Kayla. This is Book One in the series. Kayla lives with her mom and dad, but she doesn’t get to see her mom so much because of her working. But this doesn’t stop Kayla from dreaming, and her dreams are to work with the musical theater, something she loves very much. I have read several books by Deedee Cummings and enjoy them so much, and this one is just as awesome as the others. I especially like the close relationship Kayla has with her mom, and how her mom encourages Kayla to follow her dreams.

I like that Cummings writes a book such as this to show that young girls of any color or race can follow their dreams to be what they want to be. This book would be a great addition to your child’s library, it will sure encourage your child to be what they want to be. Being the first book in the series, there will me more to come from Deedee Cummings. I will be reviewing books two and three in the next few days so be sure to come back and see what these books are about.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is my first book of Pamela Kelly’s I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the Whitley Hotel and the Whitley family. This grandfather does an amazing job of keeping all of the family working in jobs they are capable of doing. This is why he gives his grandaughter Paula a promotion, because he knows she can do the job. And the cousin there is not doing such a good job.
I found it fun watching the family and they had their ups and downs, their friends that sometimes turned into more than friends. Ms. Kelley create a host of characters to pull this book off and she does a marvelous job of it. I like the grandfather best of course, but the Paula and David were my favorites. I love the attraction there, but neither would confirm it because they were so busy doing their jobs and both thought the other could be interested in then. Could they?
There were a lot if twists and turns. The arrival of a super well known actor brought its own flavor to the mix as well as a little romance to the plate. All in all, this is a very nice clean summer and beach read. If this is the genre you love, then it is a must for you to read. And if you are looking for an enjoyable summer read, I encourage you to pick this one up.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
