Hearts pressed

Crushes are great for grapes, wine, and romance—not so great for hearts.

The Sweetheart Festival, an Elnora Island institution, has sparked more than a few romances over the years, but who would have thought it would light a fire in two hearts from two of the island’s oldest families. When Amara Martin and Dante Greco meet, sparks fly that may ignite more than romance.

Two wineries, old feuds, generations of traditions.

Seeing the attraction at Amara and Dante’s chance meeting, Beth Stevens and Scott Anderson join forces to do a little matchmaking, not realizing the pressure it would bring to both households and their own hearts. The new couple must decide if they will adhere to tradition or break free from expectations and choose love. Pressure on every side threatens a love that hasn’t yet had a chance to ripen—for both Amara and Dante as well as for Beth and Scott.

In this “forbidden love” novel, Heart Pressed continues the Elnora Island romances of the Independence Islands Series featuring five islands, six authors, and a boatload of happily-ever-afters.
The Independence Islands Series: beach reads aren’t just for summer anymore.

Melissa Wardwell resides in Owosso, Michigan with her husband Jonathan, three children, a cat, and two pitbulls. Besides writing, she enjoys reading, having coffee with friends, and spending quality time with her husband kayaking and fishing.  Melissa likes to joke about the voices in her head, but it is those voices have inspired her to write several romance novels such as “I Know the Plans” (a story based in her hometown of Owosso) and “Finding Hope in Savannah”. When she is not penning works of fiction, she is busy reviewing books on her blog, Back Porch Reads. To see more from Melissa Wardwell, visit http://www.melissawardwell.com

Elnora Island is Amara and Dante’s story and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. The two have their work cut out for them because of problems going in with their families for a good while. I loves watching their budding romance though. And since they could use help it gets interesting when Beth and Scott tried acting as matchmakers and suddenly found themselves attracted to each other as well. The story deals with some age old drama between both Amara and Dante’s families. I think Wardwell does a nice job dealing with the issues than came up. And I enjoyed the way Ms. Wardell weaves faith in her characters lives as well.

If you enjoy light clean reads anytime, this is a wonderful story for you. You won’t be disappointed. I give this one 5 stars. Hope you enjoy!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

More from Melissa

“Life never goes as planned.”
That is the understatement of the century. 2020 has been the perfect example of it. Around the world, plans were made on January 1st to do this or that. Plans to use the year as a spring board for something new, better, or just a change.

Then that virus dashed all those plans. We were shut out from the world with only our books, our televisions, and our families. Some battled the shut down alone, while others had a house full (one friend of mine had eleven people in her house and only one was not her child). I know a couple of single friends who decided to stay at one house for the few weeks that Michigan was closed. Others, like myself, may not have done as well as everyone thought they were. Brave face and all. But we survived. We persevered. We adapted.

“Heart Pressed” is my covid story. It is about the unexpected way life change while you are in the middle of making plans for the future. How some changes are wonderful and rewarding, while others will bring you to the ground, begging for mercy.

Take Amara, for instance. She had a plan and put things into motion to make that plan come to fruition, but God (don’t you love those two words?) had a different plan and took hold of her heart. He softened it, molded it, made it a place where He could reside. Then life came knocking. The one person she thought would be there, couldn’t be, but God (there it is again) gave her someone to count on, hold her hand, and help her through the storms. He showed her that she wasn’t alone in this world by surrounding her with new people who loved her and cared for her.

(Disclaimer – I know God didn’t do anything, but we all have those stories in our own lives where God intervened on our behalf.)

Did you find a way to survive the storm? Did God bring people into your life, even at a distance, that made things better? Did your faith strengthen to new levels? I hope so because life never goes as we plan, but it sure is nice to have someone to hold your hand.

Scotland. Where fantasy, mystery, and folklore abound. A place of untold stories and forgotten paths.

A place where legends run awry.

Fifteen-year-old Monte moves to the mystically jeopardized Highlands of Scotland and discovers that life as a Celtic wizard is anything but easy. Whisperings of abnormal enchantments and vicious cat siths grip the small town he now calls home. Fear is at the helm and the instigator is unknown. An indefinite moratorium on magic is enforced. In a race against darkness, Monte and his friends must choose who to trust before time runs out, even if it means breaking some rules and facing danger head on.

Character Interview with Finn Cornelius Smith

Hello all! Today I’m sharing an excerpt of an interview I wrote between Finn and a well-meaning but rather clueless Norm (non-magical) journalist–poor fellow. Enjoy!

Greetings. This is Quill Jones of the Young Adventurer’s Gazette, Rocky Mountain USA Branch. Obtaining today’s interview was no easy feat. We traveled long and far to Ryder Hunte Clancy’s Land of True Enchantment, to Scotland the brave, a place abundant with adventure and mystery. Here we met Finn Cornelius Smith, a spritely young lad who isn’t afraid to answer a good question. We found Finn to be just as wild and majestic as the Scottish Highlands from which he hails. And we know you will too!

QUILL: Hello, Finn Cornelius. Thanks for sitting down with us today. I always like to start with a good ice breaker. What did you have for dinner last night?
FINN: Is my Nanny here?
QUILL: Your Nanny?
FINN: Aye, my Nanny, the old dear that brought me here.
QUILL: I think I saw her on the couch out front. But what does that have to do with what you had for dinner last night?
FINN: So…she’s in the house?
QUILL: Yes. Last I checked she was here.
FINN: On the couch?
QUILL: Correct. But it looked like she was, well, she was snoring.
FINN: Oh, okay. So, she’s asleep?
QUILL: I think it’s safe to say that, yes. She’s out for the count.
FINN: Right. That makes sense. It is her nap time, after all. Okay, I’ll tell you what we had for dinner last night. We had liver and parsnips.
QUILL: Liver and parsnips? That sounds…interesting. Did you like it?
FINN: Oi! Are you serious? I hate liver. But don’t tell my Nanny I said that. It’d probably upset her to know that I never eat it. You see, she thinks I do….she thinks that I like liver and parsnips.
QUILL: Oh, and how’s that?
FINN: I hide it in my napkin when she’s not looking, and then later, after she’s gone to bed, I take it out back and chuck it over the garden wall.Don’t let on that you know that, though. She gets the liver special from the butcher all the way in town. She’d skin me alive if she knew I wasn’t devouring every last bite.
QUILL: Don’t worry, I won’t tell her. It sounds like you really don’t like liver. Although at least it wasn’t haggis, right?

About the Author

Ryder Hunte Clancy has lived most of her life in the desert but her heart belongs to the sea; her happy place, where brine and mist abound and allusive waves caress expansive stretches of compacted sand. A tried and true stay-at-home mom, she has just as much trouble keeping up with her fictional, teenage characters as she does her three small children. Mystic Invisible is her debut novel, the inspiration of which was gleaned from her husband’s homeland of Scotland, where fantasy, mystery, and folklore are rich and hints of adventure linger around every corner.
