It might be Winslow Island’s annual Matchmaking Festival, but Tessa has more important things to worry about, like how to keep her mother’s bed and breakfast in business. She definitely doesn’t have time for an arrogant doctor with a sexy smirk.

Parker’s life is as precise and planned as the surgeries he performs. He’s on track for a career-making promotion – if he can improve his bedside manner. When his mother plans his father’s seventieth birthday party for the same weekend as the Matchmaking Festival, Parker suspects he’s in for a series of sneaky setups. He doesn’t expect a fiery redhead to crash into him in a shower of glitter, wreaking havoc with his plans and his heart.
Tessa is the only woman brave enough to tame his arrogance, and Parker holds the key to saving her mother’s business. Can they put aside their differences long enough to admit the attraction growing between them and get what they both need?

Or will a life-changing decision drive them further apart?

Join the residents of Winslow Island for a fun-filled, sweet romance – full of piggyback rides, scrumptious baked goods, and colorful characters guaranteed to make you come back for more.

Excerpt

“Is that him?” Gabby slapped Tessa’s leg like an overexcited Chihuahua. “That has to be him. Tessa, is that him? Tell me it’s him.”

Tessa laughed. “I told you I don’t know what he looks like.”

“Just look,” Gabby begged.

There was no point arguing with Gabby when she got something in her head. Tessa lowered her arms, the balloon bouncing against her thigh as she peered into the dwindling crowd. Her model had to be one of the few pedestrians heading this way.

One couple.

Another couple with two pudge-cheeked kids and a scraggly furred dog.

Another couple.

Tessa couldn’t see any men walking alone. He didn’t mention traveling with anyone. “Are you sure you saw him? Which one did you think…”

Oh.

Soft brown hair; eyes, too far away to notice the color but striking enough to make her heart feel like it was thumping inside of her throat. He wore a tight-cut charcoal-grey suit — more formal than anything her previous models wore — that hinted at hard curves beneath.

He definitely had the body of a model, but not hers.

He was beautiful.

Too beautiful.

Her models were usually elderly, with sagging skin and greying hair; the contours of their bodies made for soft, delicate strokes on paper. This man would be all hard lines and bold strokes.

His gaze found hers.

Tessa’s breath caught in her throat.

After growing up on the South Coast’s sandy shores, she jumped on a plane and settled in the lush green wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. Her new backyard inspired a life long dream to put pen to paper, and Winslow Island was born.

When she’s not scribbling sweet stories full of witty characters and mischievous matchmakers, Chrissy is navigating life as an expat, explaining what fairy floss is and trying to remember that orange-flavored chocolate is not a food group.

More from Alexis

Stories and Songs of Faith: My Journey with God was published in April 2020.

However, the idea for this devotional wasn’t a thought in my head until around the beginning of last year. It’s interesting because though I have been writing devotions since recovering from a health crisis at age 16, and have had my devotionals published in books, on blogs and on websites since then, I never thought of putting together a book filled with my original devotions until January 2019.

It’s amazing how God works! Because at the time that God inspired this project, I was actually still trying to recover from writer’s block and work on another fiction book which I planned to have published before the end of that year. But God had other plans.

And His plans were (and always are) perfect!

God put this devotional on my heart and I went to it! First, I gathered all of the devotions that I’d written over the years that were published on other blogs. Since they didn’t pay me to publish my work, I still had the rights to each one. So that meant I now had about 25 percent of the content for my book! Next, I reached out to the women’s devotional book editorial team who had published several of my devotions over the span of about 14 years. I planned to ask permission to re-publish those devotions that I wrote, this time in my own devotional. But later, I decided that it would be a better idea to simply write new material for my book. And so I did! But it wasn’t easy.

At first, I was barely writing more than one devotion every two or three weeks. It was then that I realized that as a trained journalist, I thrive on deadlines (never missed one). So I decided that it would help motivate me to write consistently if I gave myself a deadline for each new devotion. Around that time, I had been writing a few times a month for a friend’s blog called Whispers in Purple. I decided to sign up to write a new devotion for her blog every week until I was done putting my devotional together. So I booked myself for one of my new devotions to be published every Friday from around February 2019 through Summer 2019.

By Summer 2019, I had a total of 44 devotions and thought I was done. However, God knew I was not and He let me know that through two professionals in the publishing industry. The first was a popular book editor who told me, “You know, Alexis, if you wrote 52 devotions then it could be a weekly devotional because there are 52 weeks in a year.” I gave her a nod but wasn’t convinced that was the best idea for me as the author. Not soon after, a literary agent gave me the final push by simply saying, “You need to keep going.” And so I, reluctantly then but gratefully now, did keep writing more devotions. I booked myself to be a guest on Whispers in Purple blog every Friday through the rest of that year and then finally by the end of February 2020 (the next year), I wrote devotional number 52. I was so relieved to be done writing my book!

Not only does God have perfect timing; He positions you perfectly for success! Long story short: My publisher had hired a new editor who has decades of professional experience in editing devotionals and she (Patty) was the editor who my publisher assigned to me! Patty had a wonderful idea that really shaped my book by giving it the perfect title and bonus idea. The title of my devotional, as you can see, is about my real-life stories and faith-based songs that guided me on my journey with God. And the fun bonus idea was to have links to the songs that I mentioned in each devotion. These links were made available for the reader in a song directory at the end of my devotional in both the print and e-book versions. Even better, the link is live if you are using a Kindle to read my book meaning that the reader can just click on the hyperlink and hear the song via YouTube while using their Kindle app or Kindle device, without having to look it up first online. Patty said that there’s really not another book on the market yet with this kind of idea and format. She told me that it may help a lot of people, especially music lovers. As a music lover myself, I loved this idea!

But God wasn’t done directing my steps (praise the Lord!): He allowed 20 professionals from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences to agree to read an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of my book and write an endorsement. We’re talking actresses, journalists, pastors, doctors, teachers, authors, bloggers, singers and a Christian radio show host … a wonderful variety of people who were all behind my book!

The final part of this amazing experience that brings joy to my heart is the fact that this is the first book I wrote where all of the first few reviews were each 5-stars on Amazon.com! That has never happened to me before (I have three other books published though they are all fiction stories but this devotional is my first nonfiction work).

Several of the people who have endorsed and/or reviewed my book have said that it was timely and needed for such a time as this (the Coronavirus pandemic, intense politics, increased racial tensions, and everything else that’s been hitting us hard this year on and off the news). Only God can do that so I give all the glory to Him!

In closing, I’d like to share words from my friend Morgan’s endorsement.

She said: “God has profoundly touched my life through Alexis A. Goring’s uplifting and personable weekly devotional book sharing God’s love through her own experiences and insights. It is so well-written and in a voice that feels as if a close friend is having coffee with you and talking of God. Every entry is backed by Scripture, as well as highlights meaningful songs that God has used to touch the author’s heart. As a fellow journalist, I love how the author uses her talent of observation to see God at work all around her as well as the use of thought-provoking questions at each devotional’s end to further connect our lives to that entry’s theme and the Scripture truth it has been based on. If you are looking for a devotional that is short but powerful, this is it. It would be a perfect gift for a special person in your life.”

Morgan’s words about how reading my devotional made her feel like she was having coffee with a close friend and talking about God is how I want every person who reads my book to feel. And if you don’t like coffee then we can have tea or ice water! At the end of the day, I hope and pray that God uses my devotional to touch your heart and bring you closer to Him.

This is the first book I have read by Jill Weatherholt and I found it a very sweet and delightful read. And I love the adorable cover. Janie and Drew wasn’t so sure about working together but Janie must in order to get her inheritance. But the attraction soon starts between the two long time friends and the rest is history. This story is pretty predictable, but its so much fun following Drew and Janie on their new journey. I enjoyed the interaction between the two as they worked to get the camp up and running. And Riley was the life of the party. I love her character, and what she added to the story.

It’s so nice reading a Love Inspired read once in a while because they are short, sweet, interesting, and so much fun and the books can be read in an afternoon or evening. If you want a sweet quick and delightful read, I highly recommend this book for you.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

About the Author

By day, Jill Weatherholt works for the City of Charlotte. At night, and on the weekend, she writes contemporary stories about love, faith and forgiveness for Harlequin Love Inspired.

Raised in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., she now resides in Charlotte, North Carolina, but her heart belongs to Virginia.

She holds a degree in Psychology from George Mason University and Paralegal Studies Certification from Duke University.

Jill believes in enjoying every moment of this journey because God has everything under control.

More from Jill

I have a confession. I own a collection of journals. A huge collection. At last count, there were sixty-two beautifully bound books, some with plain covers, others with verses or artistic designs. You could say I’m a hoarder, but I find comfort in knowing I have an unlimited number of blank pages to record my hopes, dreams and prayers. That’s exactly what I did on June 22, 2008. On that day, I wrote the following:

I want to be a writer, not just a writer who keeps a journal or casually writes stories. I want to be a published writer. Lately, I’ve become obsessed with reading author’s websites, their bios, how they got started writing and how difficult or easy it was for them to get published. This is what I want to do with my life. This is what I will do. I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. God has put this dream in my heart and now I will pursue this dream.

Fast forward to March 31, 2015. I made a last-minute decision to enter Harlequin Love Inspired Blurb to Book Contest. I submitted a one sentence blurb, along with one page of the first and only book I’d ever written.

On April 13, 2015, I was stunned to learn I had advanced in the contest. I then submitted a synopsis and the first three chapters.

On May 15th, I was notified I had moved on in the contest. I was required to submit the entire manuscript. At that time, the book was merely a rough draft, so a lot of rewriting was required before my deadline.

On August 17, 2015, I received a call that forever changed my life. While working my day job, my cell phone rang—it was New York calling. An editor from Harlequin had called to offer me a contract on the first book I’d ever written. My first book Second Chance Romance was released on March 1, 2017.

Five published books later, I still fill my journals with my dreams and prayers.

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops
you’ll find snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:

Launch – Note from the Author

Welcome to a world loosely based upon a classic fairy tale but wrapped up in snowy holiday magic. FAIRYTALE CHRISTMAS WITH THE MILLIONAIRE is the modern day retelling of Cinderella…and did I mention it includes an adorable cat named Prince? . . .

Cover Lover Book Review – Review

Fairytale Christmas with the Millionaire fills so many boxes. It contains a fabulous fairytale feel (say that three times fast!) a wonderful Cinderella retelling, and a setting during the most wonderful time of the year–Christmas! . . . I love everything Christmas and fully enjoyed this sweet, romantic, opposites attract Christmas story.”

BookHounds – Excerpt

The worry in her friend’s warm brown eyes drew Alina’s concern. “What is it?”

“It’s another letter about them throwing us out.”

“What?” Alina rushed over to her mailbox. In her rush, she fumbled with her keys. They fell to the tile floor with a loud jangle.

Reading Excursions – Review

“. . . I really loved it! . . . This was such an addicting little read that I kept wanting to turn the pages. Definitely an easy read. Fastest read “romance” line book!

Fans of the author, genre, and those who’ve read the first two books will more than likely enjoy this little read. I always enjoy Jennifer Faye’s books and look forward to reading them!”

Rockin’ Book Reviews – Review

“This is a great Christmastime story! It is related to other similar themes, yet themes we all need to remember. Jennifer is a very talented author who always manages to captivate readers.”

Wishful Endings – Excerpt

When he lifted his head, his gaze met hers. Her heart jolted in recognition. She would know those brown eyes anywhere. They were the same ones she’d stared into that very morning in the lobby of her building.

His dark brows drew together as unspoken questions flashed in his eyes. Apparently, she wasn’t the only one to remember their run-in. But why had he followed her here? Was he some sort of stalker? Worry sent her pulse racing.

Books and Zebras – Review

“This story is a fast easy to read stress reducer. Filled with charm, humor and warmth, Fairytale Christmas with The Millionaire reads like a lovely fairytale should, romance and conflict included. The characters are likeable and engaging, plus they show growth throughout the story.”

Hallie Reads – Review

“Jennifer Faye’s Fairytale Christmas with the Millionaire is a charming, fun romance. This quick read offers a modern-day spin on Cinderella, and as Alina and Graham navigate the challenges that their circumstances present, it is enjoyable to see how it all seems to work together.”

Splashes of Joy – Review

“I love Jennifer Faye’s sweet romance stories and this one is another awesome one that I enjoyed very much! Fairytale Christmas with the Millionaire is the perfect story to read during the Christmas Holidays. . . . The Fairytale feel to this story is amazing and I love the spin on [the] old fairy-tale Cinderella.”

Melissa McClone – Excerpt

Graham hadn’t intended to spring a surprise attack. In fact, he’d been expecting her to recognize him. Perhaps he’d done too good of a job ducking the press since taking over as CEO. The truth was that he’d never wanted to live a public life, not like his father, who made the news regularly.

Christy’s Cozy Corners – Review

“I know I’m constantly gushing over Jennifer Faye’s books, but there’s a reason…they’re amazing! Fairytale Christmas with the Millionaire really touched my heart. It’s filled with many sweet and touching moments, and I think it will touch your hearts too. . . . Fairytale Christmas with the Millionaire will keep you turning the pages and staying up until you reach the end. It’s that good. It’ll warm your heart and leave you with a smile on your face. I highly recommend it to all of you romance lovers!”

Pause for Tales – Review

“This is a contemporary story but I really enjoyed how the author brought in all of the elements of the fairy tale and wrapped it in a nice Christmas package as well. This was a heartwarming story of finding new love and new reasons to move on from the past and live in the present and hope for the future.”

reviewingbooksplusmore – Review

“Alina was such a fun character. . . . Fairytale Christmas with the Millionaire is an excellent Christmas story.”

Locks, Hooks and Books – Review

“What another delightful read by her. It was so very good. . . . I am giving Fairytale Christmas with the Millionaire a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading sweet and heartwarming romance, as well as, those that are set during the magical time of Christmas.”

Harlie’s Books – Review

“This book has all the feels. I laughed, swooned, got mad, and was in awe of Alina and Graham. Most don’t know that I’m a sucker for Cinderella stories. Cinderella is my all-time favorite Disney princess so this book is a win for me. It had the wicked stepfamily, the handsome prince, a fairy godfather, and a heroine with a heart of gold. But it also had the setting of New York City at Christmas so another score for me. The icing on the cake was that Ms. Faye was able to weave the classic story of Cinderella into a modern tale of hope, love, and above family with a twist. . . . It’s a joy to read.”

QuirkyBookReads – Review

Fairytale Christmas with the Millionaire is loosely based on Cinderella. It is descriptive, well written and easy to follow. The plot shares a heartwarming tale finding love around the Christmas season. . . . I would recommend reading Fairytale Christmas with the Millionaire . . .”

Teatime and Books – Excerpt

Graham moved to a small table. She followed, finding two black, thickly cushioned chairs placed on opposite ends of the small table. In the center was a white tapered candle. Its flame flickered. And there were two place settings of what looked to be real china. A private dinner for two?

Bookish Jottings – Review

“Jennifer Faye knocks it out of the park yet again with her enchanting Yuletide contemporary romance, Fairytale Christmas with the Millionaire. A wonderful storyteller who makes readers fall in love with her characters from the very first page, Jennifer Faye effortlessly blends humor, emotion, drama and intensity in a beguiling contemporary romance that is strictly irresistible. . . . A heart-warming, emotional and captivating contemporary romance, Jennifer Faye has another hit on her hands with Fairytale Christmas with the Millionaire.”

Book: An Ivy Hill Christmas

Author: Julie Klassen

Genre: Christmas Historical Romance

Release Date: September, 2020

Ivy Hill Christmas

Richard Brockwell, the younger son of Ivy Hill’s most prominent family, hasn’t been home for Christmas in years. He prefers to live in the London townhouse, far away from Brockwell Court, the old family secret that haunts him, and the shadows of his past mistakes. But then his mother threatens to stop funding his carefree life–unless he comes home for Christmas. Out of options, he sets out for Ivy Hill, planning to be back on a coach bound for London and his unencumbered bachelor life as soon as the festivities are over.

But Christmas in the country presents many surprises, including encounters with an orphaned apprentice, the first love he disappointed years ago, and Arabella Awdry, a young lady who is far more appealing than he recalled–and determined to have nothing to do with him.

Will Christmastime in Ivy Hill, with its village charm, kissing boughs, and joyous songs, change his heart . . . and hers as well?

An Ivy Hill Christmas is a novella continuing the Tales from Ivy Hill series from Julie Klassen. I was glad to once again enjoy more from this series. This book is about Richard, the wayward son coming home for the Christmas holiday, bringing not only a friend, but his new fury friend as well! It took me a while with Richard, he had such an obnoxious attitude it was difficult to like him at first. But he did grow on me and turned out to be a pleasant character. His trip home turned out to be quite different than what he thought.

I loved the olde fashion Christmas feel of this story, bringing back memories of when I was young. I enjoyed the characters and again Ms. Klassen does a wonderful job of bringing back characters we already know and adding a few more me meet for the first time. Even though this is a shorter story, I enjoyed this one so much, and as always was excited to read more from Julie Klassen. I encourage you to get a copy of this book and enjoy a wonderful and exciting great read for this Christmas time.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

About the Author

Klassen Julie

Julie Klassen loves all things Jane–Jane Eyre and Jane Austen. A graduate of the University of Illinois, Julie worked in publishing for 16 years and now writes full-time. Her novels have sold over 1 million copies, and three of her books, The Silent GovernessThe Girl in the Gatehouse, and The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, have won the Christy Award for Historical Romance. The Secret of Pembrooke Park was honored with the Minnesota Book Award for Genre Fiction. Julie has also won the Midwest Book Award and a Christian Retailing‘s Best Award, and has been a finalist in the Romance Writers of America’s RITA Awards and ACFW’s Carol Awards. Julie and her husband have two sons and live in a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota.

More from Julie

My fascination with England began as a girl when I read The Secret Garden and Jane Eyre, and watched A Christmas Carol. I have now been to Great Britain several times, and my affection for the place has only grown. I love the country villages with their stone buildings and thatched roofs, the narrow, winding roads (though not driving on them), the ancient churches, friendly people, plummy accents, and history. Writing fifteen novels set there has been a real pleasure.

An Ivy Hill Christmas includes all the elements of an idyllic Olde English yuletide: A charming village setting, snowfall, mistletoe, caroling, gifts for less fortunate neighbors, and festive gatherings of friends and family. I thoroughly enjoyed researching 19th century Christmas traditions and weaving them into this novella.

In the story, a confirmed bachelor is determined to remain aloof from the celebrations going on around him—and from his mother’s matchmaking schemes. But divine hope, friendship, and unexpected romance change his heart…and his mind.  I love a transformation story; don’t you?

If you’ve read the TALES FROM IVY HILL series, you will enjoy returning to the village and spending time with favorite characters. But rest assured, the novella is a standalone, meaning you can enjoy it whether or not you’ve read the other books, as these reviews attest:

“[A] standalone novella that not only beautifully captures the kindness, hope, love, and faith of Christmas but also skillfully evokes the period holiday atmosphere of Regency England.”  —Booklist

“This feel-good tale of love and redemption will delight Klassen’s fans and new readers alike.” Publishers Weekly

And if you like the novella, I think you will like the other books as well. An Ivy Hill Christmas would also make a lovely gift for a reading friend.

Finally, if you want to add a British flair to your own modern-day celebrations, buy (or make) mince tarts or Christmas pudding, place Christmas “crackers” (pull-apart gift tubes) on your table and wear the included paper crowns. Refer to Father Christmas instead of Santa; and instead of “Merry,” wish everyone a hearty, “Happy Christmas.”

Happy Christmas!

Grand Finale for Montana Wedding by Cari Lynn Webb

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops
you’ll find snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:

Launch – Author Interview

I’m thrilled to be celebrating the release of my new book, Montana Wedding, book 5 in the continuity series, The Blackwell Sisters with Harlequin Heartwarming. Montana Wedding is a sweet contemporary romance that brings together doctor, Georgiana (Georgie) Harrison and rodeo star Zach Evans for an unforgettable Christmas. . .

Christy’s Cozy Corners – Review

“Cari Lynn Webb has written another exceptional, page-turning book for clean romance lovers everywhere. . . . I love how Webb gives her characters such unique personalities and “issues” to deal with. Though I’ve never been in Georgie’s shoes or Zach’s saddle, I could feel their hurts coming through the pages of the book. And, yes, I cried. If you get immersed in books like I do, you’ll probably cry too! Those side characters that you might be unfamiliar with will get into your hearts. They’ll make you laugh and cry. Past hurts begin to mend, and that’ll make you cry too! In other words, be sure you’ve got the tissues handy.

I highly recommend this sweet, emotional book.”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

But a rodeo cowboy could distract her family from her next career move. Stop right there, Georgiana Marie. Her mother’s inflexible tone had always halted Georgie’s unapproved science projects, rendering her theories unproved. “Are you any good?”

“Top ten calf roping and bronc riding in the country.” He shrugged as if being modest about the accomplishment.

Remembrancy – Review

“These two are complete opposites in so many ways, but they make a fantastic team when they put their heads together. And the attraction sizzles from early on even though they’re both intent on fighting it (we all know how well that will turn out).

I also loved all of the holiday cheer from the different trees to the ugly sweaters to the scavenger hunt (although, I would have liked to know which couple won that). Montana Wedding was a great way to end the series, but I sure hope we haven’t seen the last of the Blackwell clan.”

Books & Benches – Excerpt

MY BOYFRIEND. GEORGIE just jumped in with both feet. Never mind that the last time she’d jumped in with both feet had been at summer camp in seventh grade. And she had ended up with a concussion and a broken arm. She strained to find her most convincing smile.

Beside her, Zach wheezed as if he choked on air. “Pleasure to meet you all.”

She was going to owe him. Big-time.

Library Lady’s Kid Lit – Review

“When one of her sisters is getting married she convinces a male co-worker to attend with her and help her convince her family moving to work at a lab in London is the best thing for her. But, he doesn’t show up at the airport and Georgie has to come up with another plan. Cari Lynn Webb has crafted an enjoyable story.”

Hallie Reads – Review

“I am here for all the fake-dating romances. This trope is a favorite and rarely lets me down, so of course, Cari Lynn Webb’s Montana Wedding is delightful. . . . The way they challenge each other and grow proves that their fake relationship could be exactly what they need. Add in plenty of holiday cheer, and their romance is charming, fun, and irresistible.”

Cover Lover Book Review – Excerpt

“I worked hard,” Georgie said.

“That’s all you do.” Fee tipped her head and considered Georgie. Worry was etched in her face and clear in her words. “You work hard and harder still. Always focused on work and that next level.”

Georgie had goals to reach. That required focus and dedication. But had she missed out on the fun and games over the years? She shook her head. She wasn’t the carefree type. Never had been. Her sisters knew that. Yet she set her hand flat on the table as if she’d been knocked off balance.

Splashes of Joy – Review

“I love the main characters and she does an amazing joy of bringing back all of the family. Georgie and Zach are so different yet so well for each other. The chemistry between the two is just right! I totally enjoyed this fun and enjoyable entertainment!”

Rockin’ Book Reviews – Review

“This is another great story set in Montana at the awesome Blackwell Ranch. I love the Blackwell family. . . . The characters are all well-developed and it is easy to feel their emotions. . . . I highly recommend this story to all readers. It has great life lessons and has a great romance also.”

E-Romance News – Excerpt

“Then we’ll find something that does help.”

“We?” She lifted her gaze to his face.

“Yes, we. You and me.” Zach picked up the pot of honey from Hilda Pittman and swirled the wooden stick in the tea. “Honey is good for allergies, sore throats and stomach issues.”

“Is that right?” A smile broke through her hesitant tone.

Pause for Tales – Review

Montana Wedding was a story that I thought would be a cute one about a fake date/boyfriend where the lead couples fall in love. It was that and more. Actually it was a deeper romance and a story that showed the importance of family.”

Locks, Hooks and Books – Review

Montana Wedding is getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for readers who love clean romance. I was excited to find out that it is part of a series, The Blackwell Sisters, and I will be looking forward to reading those to find out what happened previously to this one.”

Reading Is My SuperPower – Review

“The whole family (Harrisons & Blackwells & significant others) come together for this final book in the series, and boy howdy there’s a lot of ’em. The result is a big, crazy, wonderful mix of people and personalities and laughter and love. Throw in Christmas and you have the perfect ratio of family shenanigans to yummy goodies to romantic moments. . . . Montana Wedding is the ideal send-off for this Blackwell series – and maybe we could hope for some other unknown Blackwell offspring from these authors in the future?”

Heidi Reads… – Excerpt

“Georgie, you want to come with us?” Grace asked.

Georgie shook her head. “I think I’ll stay and explore, if you don’t mind.”

Zach minded. Very much. He’d be alone with Georgie. Again. And every time he was alone with her, he spilled more truths. Revealed parts of his life he’d never wanted to share. Every time he was alone with Georgie, the lines blurred, and he forgot he was only supposed to be pretending to like her.

Getting Your Read On – Review

“There were so many things happening in this story! The winter/Christmas setting lends itself to lots of fun family Christmas traditions and troublesome weather. There is the return of an estranged father, the birth of babies and the reconnecting of sisters. It was easy to get wrapped up in the holiday feel with the idyllic setting and warm family bonds. This is a great book to read during this month of December.”

Beauty in the Binding – Excerpt

“I thought you could use these as gifts for your sisters.” Zach cleared his throat. “Or not. They’re old glass jars. Probably chipped and cracked. Need to be cleaned.”

She reached up, placed her hand on his cheek.

Her warm, soft touch stalled his rambling and his heart.

Reading Excursions – Review

“Realistic, dramatic, funny at times, and realistically told, this was one of the fastest read Heartwarming novels I ever read. . . . Fans of the author and genre, plus those who’ve read the previous three novels might enjoy this last book of the series.”

Bookish Jottings – Review

“If you are looking for a fun, poignant and spellbinding contemporary romantic read, look no further than Cari Lynn Webb’s latest novel, Montana Wedding. . . . A delightful contemporary romance that will have you laughing out loud and wiping away a tear or two, Cari Lynn Webb’s Montana Wedding is a fantastic tale about finding happiness when you least expect it, family ties and following your heart that I struggled to put down. . . . Warm, witty and wonderful, Cari Lynn Webb’s Montana Wedding is not to be missed.”

Excerpt

Oregon, December 1869

Charlotte Pullard opened her eyes to the gray of dawn, blinking slowly. Gradually, a beamed ceiling came into focus… but it wasn’t her ceiling. Whose ceiling was it? She closed her eyes again, thinking.

She’d kissed her mother goodbye. Something about that felt sad, wrong somehow. Maybe she hadn’t wanted to leave. And her father… her father…

Gasp!

Charlotte’s eyes flew open and she sat up so quickly that her head began to spin. Sinking back down to the pillow, she touched her forehead softly, her breath coming in short bursts. Her father had sent her away, as easily as a load of freight aboard one of his many vessels. She’d placed one foot mindlessly over the other, turning her back on all she’d ever known. It was to be a short trip, no longer than two days until she’d reach Crescent City, California. Then the sky puckered sourly, darkening beyond the shade of rain to something far more formidable.

The storm.

The storm with waves as big as mountains, waves so steep that her stomach would flutter every time the ship slid down the sides of them. The water was icy cold, the thunder as loud as rocks grinding together. Or had that been the ship crashing into protruding basalt?

She shook her head at the nightmare, the terror and tumult of the darkness that seemed unreal, yet too vivid to be fantasy. Then she remembered Woody, that he’d dragged her below deck to her room and shouted at her to stay put. No sooner had the words spilled from the sailor’s mouth than she found herself in the water, so breathtakingly cold and angry that it consumed her every thought and feeling…

A tear ran down her temple.

It was horrible, all of it. Yet here she was, alive, in a quiet room somewhere on shore. No, not entirely quiet, for there were the waves, not villainous and uncaring as she remembered, but rhythmic and steady.

She placed her palms flat against the mattress and slowly, so slowly pressed herself upright. There. That wasn’t so bad. Breathe in, breathe out. The deep breaths made her throat and lungs burn.

What day was it? Where was she, exactly? Where was the rest of the crew? Loud questions filled her head, vying to be first to receive an answer, but she plucked them away.

One thing at a time.

The bedroom was small and bright in the early morning light, containing only the bed she sat upon, a three-drawer bureau, and a washstand, which snagged her attention. Fingers darting to her unadorned neck, Charlotte swung her bare feet to the floor and stood, snatching the golden locket from the washstand. She’d never taken it off, not since he’d given it to her on that chilly, cloudless night last spring. A small smile stretched her lips as she cradled the token in her palms, lost in the memory of his strong hand on her cheek, how he had almost kissed her; how happy she’d been gazing into his blue eyes as deep and stimulating as the ocean itself.

But she knew the tragic ending to that story. Maxwell Tucker had filled her heart and head with his affections, then abandoned her to heartache, confusion, loneliness. Worst of all, she knew wholeheartedly that she could never love another as she’d loved him. It was that small word that kept the golden locket in her pocket always.

Love.

For no matter the pain he had later put her through, he had given her the cherished necklace out of love. The locket – and the memories – were all she had left of those happy days, and each time she opened it, those joyous recollections tumbled out.

Standing tall, Charlotte stretched her hands high above her head, rolled her shoulders, then used her fingers to comb through her tangled copper tresses. Rips and stains covered her dress… and hadn’t she been wearing stockings? She groaned, knowing she must look awful.

Her rumbling stomach drew her out of self-inspection and through the little cottage. Good heavens, but it was a mess! The furniture, though in good condition, lay in heaps about the sitting room, and the kitchen looked like it hadn’t had a thorough cleaning in ages. Whoever it was who lived in this grimy little place must be dreadfully slovenly. Then she noticed the staircase at the back of the house and couldn’t keep herself from wandering towards it. Curious, she climbed one set of stairs to a low-ceilinged garret and gasped in pleasure, lacing her hands together. The single window let in soft, muted light, perfect for reading one of the books from the rows of shelves filling the narrowest wall.

Thrilled as she was to have found the library, she quickly forgot about the books, for the shelves continued around the entirety of the room and displayed the most wonderful collection of seashore knickknacks she’d ever seen! Sea shells in every shape and color, the largest as big as her head, the smallest as little as the fingernail on her pinky; white sand dollars and chunks of coral; bright green and blue sea glass, smoothed by the ocean. Oh, she could spend a week in this room examining each and every piece! It would only be fair to amend her earlier hasty assessment of the occupant, she decided. Whomever this charming cottage belonged to must be utterly fascinating.

Pursing her lips, Charlotte remembered herself and her situation and backed out of the room. She should be mindful of her host, not traipse around his or her personal space as though it were a public museum. And where was this person, anyway? Perhaps she’d find him or her at the top of these stairs. Up she climbed, bewildered by the number of steps.

Finally, she came upon another room with a closed door, but after peeking inside to find it dark and devoid of persons, she continued her ascent, fighting lightheadedness. Next came an open, round room with a padded chair and writing desk topped with an ink pot and book, and some sort of mechanical device in the very center opened to the room above. Suddenly, the random tower made sense. I’m in a lighthouse!

Rungs of a ladder rose to access the top of the tower, and on that ladder, two legs in soiled men’s trousers. Charlotte cleared her throat loudly.

The man stilled but did not come down.

“Excuse me, good sir,” Charlotte began, thinking maybe he was hard of hearing. The silence was getting a bit awkward. “I’d like to thank you for bringing me here after that awful storm. Do you know where the others…”

Her sentence trailed off as the man descended, as she began to recognize his trim waist and broad shoulders. He stood at the bottom of the ladder, hesitating to turn around. He didn’t need to – she knew exactly who he was.

Tour and Giveaway for Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship by Parker Fairchild

🎄

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Parker Fairchild will be awarding a $25 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

On a Caribbean cruise, a platter full of cookies, and a shot of Christmas magic yields a perfect pairing.

Chemist and budding romance writer Olivia Chasen is on a cruise to avoid spending Christmas with her beautiful twin sister and new fiancé—Olivia’s ex. Now, thanks to her lonely, intoxicated ramblings on Santa’s lap, her fellow passengers think she’s in love with a fictional character.

Former Navy SEAL Commander Jace Morse has dealt with plenty of unusual situations in his career, but he’s never had the honor, the pleasure, or the privilege of being a beautiful and intelligent woman’s fantasy hero come to life. While he hasn’t officially met the sexy chemist, he’s sure eager to explore the chemistry that’s sizzling between them.

Bringing the charming SEAL together with the skeptical Olivia is going to take more than just Christmas cookies and a little help from Mrs. Claus; it’s gonna take a heaping dose of Christmas magic.

Read an Excerpt

She stepped to him. “I trusted you. You act all so cool and collected. Perhaps, this will faze you,” she said pushing him back and into the pool.

Suddenly, everything spun out of control. Olivia had been so upset that she hadn’t seen Santa Claus approach Jace carrying a small Christmas tree full of decorations for the hospital in Grand Cayman.

As Jace stumbled back into the pool, he unfortunately carried Santa and the tree with him into the water. The last thing Olivia heard was Santa’s “Ho! Ho! Ho!” turn into “Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!” before they both took a splash.

Olivia literally bit her tongue to stop from laughing. This was so not funny, but yet it was hilarious. She, Olivia Chasen, had finally found her fun and excitement. She had a new groove.

And as she looked around and noticed all the phone cameras rolling, and most likely had been the entire time, she delicately took a curtsy as proper as one she’d give Queen Elizabeth herself. Thankfully, watching all those episodes of the The Crown had paid off big time.

🎄 MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Christmas Cookies on a Cruise Ship by Parker Fairchild is a fun Christmas read and a bit different. This is my first book reading about a Cruise, Christmas, Santa and Mrs. Clause and the whole works. Olivia is on the Cruise to avoid having to spend Christmas with her family, mainly her sister and ex-boyfriend.

I enjoyed this delightful read from Ms. Fairchild. The characters and fun and interesting and the Cruise Ship setting is wonderful. I’ve never been on a Cruise, so I really like that with the vivid scenes created by the author made me feel ad though I was right there with them.

Meeting Jace Morse was not what Olivia expected to find and she sure wasn’t expecting to fall so for him. I liked Jace, and I enjoyed the interactions between the two. I like a story with a lot of humor and Olivia and Jace sure did that! All in all, this is a sweet read that anyone can enjoy around the holidays.

Excerpt

BECKY STOPPED OUTSIDE the door when she heard Bo’s deep smooth masculine voice, which touched her skin like cashmere, soothing, comfortable and deliciously rich. The baritone made her want to lean her head against the wall and absorb every nuance of his voice into her skin.

“You have a lot of stuffed animals and dolls,” Bo was saying.

“This. Is. Bear. Soft.” In Becky’s mind’s eye she could see Luci rubbing her face against the stuffed animal.

“What’s this one’s name?”

He wasn’t worming his way into Luci’s life. She stepped into the room and Luci ran to her.

“Mom-my.”

Becky picked her up and kissed her cheek. “I need to talk to Bo.”

Luci ran to the kitchen and Becky faced Bo with steel-like determination. He stood from the bed and his tall frame looked out of place in this pink little girl’s room. Dark eyes stared back at her with a heat level that matched hers and she didn’t know if there was a way to win against him. It would be better if he wasn’t so darn good-looking. With his longish hair and growth of beard he reminded her of Keanu Reeves. And Bo was just as big a daredevil as the characters the actor played.

“You want to talk? Talk. I’ve been trying to get you to talk for years so this is a momentous occasion.”

“Stay away from my daughter.” Becky was tired, so tired, and this bickering was not helping. “Bo, please go home.”

“Okay.” He took a step toward her and she had to resist taking a step backward. A musky scent mixed with Irish Spring soap drifted to her, weakening her resolve. “I’ll go, but first, I want to know who Luci’s father is.”

“Bo…”

“I’m her father, aren’t I? You’ve kept it from me all these years.”

Tour and Giveaway for Blue Moon by Jenny Knipfer

AND NOW FOR THE TOUR

Blue Moon Banner

About the Book

Book: Blue Moon

Author: Jenny Knipfer

Genre: Historical Fiction

Release Date: September 27, 2019

BlueMoon-front

By the Light of the Moon series:
Readers who love being trapped in a character’s mind should relish this finely written, gripping series. A must read for fans of historical fiction.”–The Prairies Book Review

A tale of precious things more rare than a blue moon…

The year is 1885 and unwed Vanessa Gulet must surrender her newborn son to her married twin sister, Valerie, to raise. A seed of bitterness grows in Vanessa. When the opportunity arises for her to have what she’s always wanted, Vanessa takes it despite the consequences to her family, getting more than she bargained for.

Meanwhile, Valerie, overcome with loss and grief, faces a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. Will she and her husband, Felix, forge through their trials together, or will these upsets cause them to drift apart?

Will Vanessa and Valerie remain at odds, or will they allow the power of forgiveness to heal their strained relationship?

Love seems to bloom in the most unlikely of places in Webaashi Bay for an old friend of Jenay’s and a woman who owns the local dress shop. A parallel tale of love, forgiveness, and reuniting lost things is spun by a local author adding another dimension to the tale of the Gulet twins and their saga.

Fans of historical fiction, Christian historical fiction, clean romance, and literary fiction will enjoy this dramatic read!

I love the cover of this book, the book cover is why I wanted to read the book, and it didn’t disappoint! I thoroughly enjoyed this historical read from author Jenny Knipfer, though sometimes it was a difficult read because of the circumstances. Vanessa is not married and was forced by her dad to give up her baby to her sister. I can not even imagine how difficult this has to be. And I can surely understand the bitterness. There is a good amount of stuff going on in this book but I had no problems. It made for a different more entertaining read for me. This is a book I think anyone who enjoys a good clean historical fiction will love this one. I’m giving Blue Moon a solid four stars!!

More from Jenny

In Blue Moon I play off a minor character from Ruby Moon, Vanessa Gulet. When Ruby Moon ended, I started wondering what Vanessa’s life had been like, rejected by Renault, her old flame who had promised her his devotion.

Vanessa’s story grew along with Valerie’s, her identical twin sister. Asking the question of what could divide twin siblings drew me deep into the drama of the Gulet sisters, and a story of desire and loss sprang from my imagination.

An even richer depth occurred when I brought the main character from Ruby Moon, Jenay, into the thick of the twins’ saga. Vanessa must come to grips with what really happened to Renault and who was involved. Will she forgive the past and the unintentional wrongs committed and embrace the new friend she has made or not?

Also, I wrote from experience in Blue Moon, as Valerie must face the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis and how to live with the fear of the unknown shadowing her life. It was therapeutic for me to write some of my own feeling and thoughts through Valerie. Journaling has always been a way for me to manage my emotions, and writing via story form was no different. Chances are you either know someone with MS or know of someone with MS. The disease is very prevalent in the U.S., and through Blue Moon I want to draw some awareness to what I and many people live with every day.

I hope in Blue Moon that the theme of forgiveness will encourage readers through their own struggles and believe that choosing to forgive is always the better choice, often bringing unforeseen blessings.

Thank you for taking the time to read a little about Blue Moon and its origin! I hope you get a chance to read it and the twins’ tale of forgiveness. If you do, please let me know, and please leave a review.

Blessings, J

P.S. Did you know I include a recipe pertaining to the story in most of my books? In Blue Moon, I include an old family favorite: butter tarts. Lily, a daughter of the man Vanessa meets and is drawn to in Webaashi Bay, loves butter tarts. Vanessa and Lily make them together. Following is the recipe.

Lily’s Butter Tart

1 C sugar

¼ C softened butter or butter substitute

2 eggs

juice of half a lemon

½ C golden raisins

½ C sweetened shredded coconut

Your favorite pie crust recipe for one 9” crust

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and lemon juice. Beat well. By hand mix in the raisins and coconut. Line pastry tin with pie crust and fill with mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until set.

I based this recipe from an old one of my grandmother’s from the late 1800’s. NOTE:  You can also cut rounds of pie crust to fill muffin tins to make smaller tarts. (Lily’s style) I make the one dish version because it’s less fuss.

ABRACADABRA WHOOPSIE,” is a really fun and entertaining children’s book by Adam Kargman.
This book is about Jordyn and his little sister Keeka, who is always getting in his way. Sometimes he just wanted her gone, but be careful about what you wish for. It could come true, and that may be good, or it could be a bad thing. Sibling rivalry is what this story is really about and Jordyn finally finds a solution. He uses his new magic wan to poof her away. He can always poof her back anytime he wants, but can he really.?

I had several laugh out loud moments while reading this fun book. I love the adorable characters and Jordyn was surely entertaining enough! And I can’t forget the adorable graphics my illustrator Tristan Tait! I love the beautiful colors that really show up well and really make this book. The illustrations of the characters are  so sweet and adorable. The pictures on each page fit the story perfectly as I kept reading. I really enjoyed reading this exciting read. And I found myself asking ‘Where is Keeka’ several times. There are a few twists and turns in the story to make it more fun! I highly recommend
ABRACADABRA WHOOPSIE” for your child, and any library or anywhere else a child may be.

🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

Working With an Illustrator – by Adam Kargman

There’s no question that an author’s most important collaborator on a picture book is the illustrator.   Half the story (or more) is told through images.  Just like a good motion picture screenplay can be ruined without casting the right actors, cinematographer, and production designer, illustrations can truly make or break your book.

Abracadabra Whoopsie was my first time working with an illustrator.  I conveyed to my publisher, Mascot Books, that I was looking for someone with a humorous, cartoonish style.  They sent me portfolios of 30 to 40 artists.  One of them, an artist named Tristan Tait, really stood out.  I sent Tristan the manuscript and he responded enthusiastically by sending me several test sketches.

Once Tristan got contracted, the publisher and I prepared a copy of the text, broken down page by page, with a brief note about how each page should be illustrated.  For instance, “Perziluzo is floating over bed,” or “Keeka barreling through a structure of building blocks that Jordy is arranging.”  I generally kept these descriptions brief.  When collaborating with someone, I always like to see what they bring to the table.

In Tristan’s case, he brought quite a lot.  For instance, the look of Perziluzo (the wizard in the story) was entirely Tristan’s design.  He described his vision as “a mischievous gypsy meets genie meets Rasputin” type.  Here is his original sketch:

He also came up with the hilarious idea of depicting the little girl, Keeka, as a monster with sharp teeth in the flashbacks at the end of the story.  Here is another one of his early sketches:

I sent Tristan my comments, he revised the drawings, I sent him more comments – and back and forth we went.  My editor at Mascot, Susan Roberts, provided helpful guidance and advice, and my wife was also an excellent source of feedback.  I found photos to be a useful tool with which to communicate.  For instance, I couldn’t quite convey the way I wanted to depict the characters on the cover of the book, so I took these pictures of my son and daughter:

After I sent the photos to Tristan, he came up with this:

My background in filmmaking (I’ve directed a number of short films) proved extremely helpful.  On one occasion, I noticed that something seemed off about the illustrations on two consecutive pages.  I finally realized that it was because the “180-degree line” – a filmmaking term – had been crossed, so I asked Tristan to reposition the characters on those pages.

Once we had agreed on the black-and-white storyboard, the hard part was done.  Tristan colored the pages, then the book designer laid in the text.  In a few instances, the illustrations had to be altered to make room for the text.

I feel fortunate to have gotten to work closely with Tristan, and that Mascot allowed me to have final creative say over the illustrations.  It is my understanding that this is not always the case, particularly at big publishing houses.  Working with Tristan was a richly rewarding experience, and it was tremendous fun witnessing a truly talented artist bring Abracadabra Whoopsie to life!

Book Description:

When Jordy discovers a magic wand, he learns he can do just that. Whenever he wants some peace and quiet, all he has to do is say “ABRACADABRA WHOOPSIE,” and . . .POOF! His little sister Keeka vanishes. When he’s ready for her to come back, he simply says it reversed: “WHOOPSIE ABRACADABRA.” What could possibly go wrong?

About the Book

Book: Snuffed Out

Author: Barbara Cornthwaite

Genre: Christian cozy mystery

Release Date: July 24, 2020

2- Snuffed Out-sm

Picnics can be murder… scenes.

What was supposed to be a romantic picnic at “their spot” turns criminal when Katrina and Todd stumble—almost literally—over a body.

What’s the college chef doing under a bush up in the mountains? Other than being dead, that is.

Who killed him? Why?

All clues point to people who Katrina is certain didn’t do it. Especially the one who ends up dead himself.

Uh, oh.

Thanks to a slow-burning romantic relationship that can’t seem to get past chapter one, and a determination to save her friend from false arrest, Katrina joins Todd again as they riddle out bizarre clues, weed through unlikely suspects, and learn to communicate on a more personal level.

What do you get when you combine literary humor, sweet romance, and a practical helping of faith? A cozy mystery that’ll keep you guessing. Barbara Cornthwaite’s second Wilkester Mystery has everything you want for a cozy read.

Snag Snuffed Out today.

I really enjoyed this cozy mystery read by Barbara Cornthwaite. This was my first read by this author, and I am certainly glad to find a new author. The story wasn’t what I expected, it really wasn’t as much of the murder story as I thought it would be, but thats ok! The other issues in the story with friends and family made up for an awesome read. Katrina and Todd were fabulous characters and it was fun watching as two hassles out the clues to solve the mystery here. I also got to know and love the other characters as well. Katrina and her friends were relaxing for me. It was nice to get away for a few hours and just read. I would recommend this story to anyone wanting a good clean sweet cozy read! I give this one four stars!

About the Author

Barbara Cornthwaite headshot

Barbara Cornthwaite lives in the middle of Ireland with her husband and children. She taught college English before “retiring” to do something she loves far more; her days are now filled with homeschooling her six children, trying to keep the house tidy (a losing battle), and trying to stay warm in the damp Irish climate (also a losing battle). She is surrounded by medieval castles, picturesque flocks of sheep, and ancient stone monuments. These things are unappreciated by her children, who are more impressed by traffic jams, skyscrapers, and hot weather.

Teaser for Snuffed Out

Todd closed the folder with the Franklin case paperwork in it and laid it on top of the stack of folders waiting to be filed. He almost reached for the Delaney case notes again but resisted the impulse. There was no new information in there, and he’d gone over everything a dozen times in the last few days. He had promised Katrina he wouldn’t give up, but without any new leads to pursue, there wasn’t much he could do.

He shook his head, impatient with himself. He’d been doing so well at putting her out of his mind—hadn’t thought of her all day until this moment. Now he’d probably be struggling for the rest of the day.

John Ortega poked his head into Todd’s office.

“Hey, we just got a call from the librarian at Wilkester College about the theft of a manuscript. The chief said either one of us could go, but I thought you might like to take it.”

“Why?”

“Oh, come on,” said John. “You think I’m blind and deaf?”

“It’s no use. Nothing’s going to happen between Dr. Peters and me.”

John leaned up against the door frame and grinned at him. “’Dr. Peters,’ huh? She was ‘Katrina’ for weeks.”

“Well, that was before. Now that I know a relationship isn’t possible, I need to keep my distance.”

“She turned you down?”

“I didn’t ask, but trust me, I know what I’m talking about.”

“Hmm,” John said. “You don’t usually give up on things so easily. Well, do you mind handling this anyway? I’ve got that other robbery case to deal with, and I’m supposed to be interviewing that guy from Tacoma in a couple hours.” Todd hesitated and John added, “She’s an adjunct professor, right? She’s probably not even on campus now, and she certainly won’t be in the library.”

“Oh, okay.” Todd sighed. He pushed back his chair and stood up.

“’Attaboy. Thanks for taking the call.” John turned to go and then looked back. “It will get easier, you know.”

“I know.” As long as I don’t see her again.

Explore the World of Chemistry: The Ultimate Alphabet Book for Nanoscale Scientists! by Christi Sperber is not your ordinary alphabet book, this is for sure. It is a book that children of all ages will enjoy reading. Small children will learn their alphabet, older ones will learn a lot of scientific words and their meaning. I love the bright vibrant colors of this book, and any child will love choosing this book just by the cover. The cover design by Elly Vergunst is very striking and Endi Astiko does an amazing job with the illustrations. The characters and backgrounds are adorable and so colorful. Explore the World of Chemistry would be a wonderful addition to your child’s library as well as any library or place where children will be. I enjoyed reading this book by Christi Sperber and I think you and your child will as well.

Guest Post from Christi Sperber

One topic: STEM concepts at early age

When I was growing up, my parents always encouraged STEM learning in our house. My brother and I always participated in the science fair each year (which he won almost every year) which was great for encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I did not know at the time that my experiences participating in the science fair were going to be beneficial to me later. In addition, my dad was a chemical engineer and whenever he helped us with our homework he would always make sure he explained every concept to us so we could fully understand the problems and think logically through a problem instead of just using basic equations that we memorized. This was a great way to teach us, but only if we had three hours to spare on one homework problem.

My brother, who is three years older than me, used to make up extra math problems for me to solve that he was learning in his math class. I specifically remember that he taught me about graph coordinates and how to draw a graph at least six months before I was introduced to it in my own class. The concept seemed so easy to me at that point and I could not figure out why it was baffling so many students.

Since I was already exposed to graph coordinates, the concept was not intimidating; that is why I think it is extremely important for children to be introduced to STEM concepts starting at a young age. In my experience, most students are intimidated by STEM subjects and therefore either disengage from classroom discussion when STEM is being taught, or just skip the class all together. By showing children terminology and basic concepts used in STEM you can foster a mentality that STEM is fun and intriguing, and it is not something to be afraid of or intimidated by. “N is for Noble gas” is a page in my alphabet book, Explore the World of Chemistry, and it has a brief definition that states: “Noble gases are gases, like helium, that do not react often”. The reader does not need to know what helium is, and maybe they have never heard of it before, but the colorful and fun picture shows children playing with balloons which is something children can relate to. These concepts serve as a primer for children so that they become familiar with STEM concepts early in life.

Meet the Author:

When Christi Sperber was pregnant with her first daughter, Emma, she wanted to add STEM books to Emma’s bookshelf. But the Mom who has a Master’s in Chemistry noticed that there weren’t many chemistry-related books available for babies and toddlers. The few that did exist, she noticed, weren’t factually correct. That’s when Sperber had an idea: launch her own publishing company – Nanoscale Scientists Publishing LLC – to introduce young kids to the wonderful world of science at an early age.

Montana Wedding is the last sweet romance in The Blackwell Sisters series. I haven’t read them all, but I’m going to purchase the ones I have missed and read them in order. This series is just too good not to read them all! And with this book bring the entire clan together for the Christmas wedding, I want to better get to know the characters so I can understand this book better. We get to focus on Georgie in this book. She has everything planned out for her trip home for her sister’s wedding, that is until her fake boyfriend for the week didn’t show up to go with her, so why not ask the guy sitting next to her on the plane? And this makes for a fun and oh so interesting read!!

I have read many books by Cari Lynn Webb and I am glad she is the one writing this last book in the series. I love the main characters and she does an amazing joy of bringing back all of the family. Georgie and Zach are so different yet so well for each other. The chemistry between the two is just right! I totally enjoyed this fun and enjoyable entertainment!
