Stones for Bread

About this book

A solitary artisan. A legacy of bread-baking. And one secret that could collapse her entire identity.

Liesl McNamara’s life can be described in one word: bread.  From her earliest memory, her mother and grandmother passed down the mystery of baking and the importance of this deceptively simple food. And now, as the owner of Wild Rise bake house, Liesl spends every day up to her elbows in dough, nourishing and perfecting her craft.

But the simple life she has cultivated is becoming quite complicated. Her head baker brings his troubled grandson into the bakeshop as an apprentice. Her waitress submits her recipes to a popular cable cooking show. And the man who delivers her flour – a single father with strange culinary habits – seems determined to win Liesl’s affection.

When Wild Rise is featured on television, her quiet existence appears a thing of the past. And then a phone call from a woman claiming to be her half-sister forces Liesl to confront long-hidden secrets in her family’s past. With her precious heritage crumbling around her, the baker must make a choice: allow herself to be buried in detachment and remorse, or take a leap of faith into a new life.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Liesl’s love of bread came from her mother and grandmother’s great love for baking bread, and those memories come to life as Liesl bakes her own bread everyday.  I could relate with Liesl’s memories because my mom and grandma love making good old home made bread, and they made is everyday. Though that didn’t rub off on me a lot, I do love good home made bread, and I loved reading this story with its bread baking setting. I like Liesl’s character, and her passion for what she does. Her bread is much more than something to eat, it is something that soothes her and gives her a calm and peace. And as I read this story, I could feel that calmness and peace as Liesl shares her love of baking bread with each of her readers. And I really never thought of breadbaking as being as involved as it is. I thoroughly enjoyed learning so much about this wonderful baking art, and I now have a respect and appreciation for those working in a bakery. Reading this has really made be curious about getting into some bread baking myself.

I really want to encourage you to pickup a copy of Christa Parrish’s new book, Stones for Bread. You are in for a pleasant surprise as Liesl tells her heartwarming story of love and family as she works in her beloved bakery.

I received this book from Litfuse to read and review.  I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.
