Unbreakable by Nancy Mehl

Unbreakable

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Gentle and unassuming, Hope Kauffman has never been one to question the traditions of her Mennonite upbringing. She quietly helps her father run Kingdom Quilts and has agreed to the betrothal he arranged for her with the devout but shy Ebbie Miller.

Despite the attempts of Hope and other Kingdom residents to maintain the status quo, changes have already begun to stir in the small Mennonite town. The handsome and charismatic Jonathon Wiese is the leader of the move to reform, while Ebbie insists Kingdom must remain true to its foundation. When Hope’s safety is threatened by a mysterious outsider, she can’t help but question what she’s always been taught about the Mennonite tradition of nonviolence.

As it swiftly becomes apparent the threat Hope faced is only the beginning, the town that’s always stood so strong finds itself divided. With tensions high and their lives endangered by an unknown enemy, will Hope and the people of Kingdom allow fear and division to break them or will they draw on the strength of the God they serve?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

After reading Inescapable, I have been eagerly awaiting to read Unbreakable. I thoroughly enjoyed the return to the small Mennonite community in Kingdom, Kansas and getting to know Hope Kauffman a little better. Hope now has two handsome young men attracted to her, but she can’t seem to make up her mind which one she thinks she really loves. As the story unfolds, we learn more about Hope, Jonathan and Ebbie. But Hope’s dad has his own take on the situation, and Hope is now sure if her dad will change his mind about his convictions.

I really like the writing style of Nancy Mehl. Her stories are unique and interesting, and different than most Mennonite stories I have read. Both Inescapable and Unbreakable shows some of the difficulties that Mennonite families go through when their children do things parents do not agree with. It is difficult for me to realize the harshness of the treatment from the parents. But Nancy doesn’t just show the difficulties, she shows love, grace and forgiveness when families come together and trust the Lord.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Gage McKenna is arrested for murder of a friend, and his sister Piper is determined to prove he is innocent. Deputy Landon Grainger loves the McKenna family but because of the job, he has to find out the truth. Not satisfied with the police investigation, Piper launches her own, stopping at nothing, and listening to the advise of no one. Will Gage be found guilty? Read this book and find out the answer.

I have really enjoyed reading this Alaskan Courage Series and I love the McKenna family. The suspense and tension in the story kept me reading to find out just who was guilty of the murder, Gage or someone else. However, I stayed really annoyed at Piper, and everyone that let her have her way. She acted like a spoiled brat that was determined to get her way. Since she is not an investigation, does not work for the police force, why would everyone let her keep doing as she pleased? Including Deputy Grainger? Wouldn’t this be a danger to everyone involved? I am sorry but for me this just made the story not realistic at all, because I hope this wouldn’t happen in a police force in real life. I guess it all makes for a good story, just not a realistic one.

I do recommend this series for your enjoyment, because the first book is really good, and I am anxious to find out what happens in the next book in this series.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Mallory Hale never expected her life to change so much when she married Daniel and moved to Moses Lake. She was use to a high profile life, living in upscale places, and was shocked at the house provided for their family by Jack West. But she adjusted as well as she could, but it was evident that something was going on and she was determined to find out just what and who was responsible for it.

This is a wonderful book all the way around! I really love this entire series! Mallory is such a unique and awesomely strong lady. The adjusment to the differences in lifestyle that Mallory encountered shows the person she really is. The characters are realistic and so believable, I felt like I was living in the story with them! And I love the community of Moses Lake and its wonderful people and laidback lifestyle. Truly a place where people really care for one another. I highly recommend Firefly Island, as well as the first two books in the Moses Lake Series.
