A Merry Little Christmas by Anita Higman

A Merry Little Christmas

by Anita Higman

About A Merry Little Christmas:
Fall in love with this cozy story about two people from different worlds.
Franny Martin is an Oklahoma farm girl who’s preparing to spend the holidays alone…again. Then Charlie Landau shows up one day, all wealth and polish, and offers to buy Franny’s farm. Franny has no money to speak of, but she is clever and spirited, and she’s more than happy to sell the farm and move to the city.
As Sinatra croons from the radio and Christmas descends upon her charming farm, Franny teaches Charlie the curious and sometimes comical ways of country life. In the process, they unearth some discoveries of the heart-that sometimes love comes when you’re least ready for it. Will the holidays bring their most impossible dreams within reach?

My Thoughts on this Book

Fanny Martin finally sells her farm after so many years, so now its time for her dream, to move into town and work at a radio station. Charlie Landau knows nothing about running a farm, but it can’t be that difficult could it? He is ready for a change, after growing up in a wealthy family, but his everyday life was run by his dad. And all he wants is to do something with his love of music.

Start the season off right with this good, clean, light and heartwarming story, “A Merry Little Christmas.” With characters that are believable and unique to the story, we watch them develop well as the story unfolds, creating an interest that will keep readers reading until the very last page.

I thoroughly enjoyed this nice little Christmas story and I sure recommend it to you for a fun and interesting Christmas read.

Barrie Graeber has two great kids, a loving husband, and a respected job as the high school counselor in her close-knit community. Then, without warning, everything unravels when her teenage daughter, Pearl, is betrayed by friends and lashes out.

Barrie’s attempts to steer her daughter back on course fail. Nothing prepares this mother for the helplessness that follows when Pearl shuts her out . . . or when the unthinkable comes to light about her nemesis, the football coach.

This is one awesome debut book from author Kellie Coates Gilbert. Mother of Pearl is a  very emotional book and at times very difficult to read because of the situation, but then the plot gets so intense you just can’t put it down. Pearl’s mother Barrie follows her heart to find out the read truth
about her daughter, bringing down a lot of people along the way, and even her husband wants her to put a stop to it, but Barrie is determine. And in the end, well, you need to read the book and find out for yourself what happens.

Truly a story told from the heart of a mother. A mother that just can’t let her daughters mistakes haunt them all forever. My heart hurt for this mother and her family, all the while those responsible running free. A book of determination and love, fears and faith, is one that you will not want to miss. And this story shows that God can take even the worst of the situations and turn it around for His glory. This is something we all need to hear at one time or another in our lives. Pick up a copy of this book today, you will not be disappointed.

This book was provided by the publisher, Abingdon Press through PUYB for me to read and review. I was not expected or required
to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.

MOTHER OF PEARL is a story that puts absolute truths and convictions to the test. It’s the emotionally riveting tale of a woman who finds she must recognize her own vulnerability and learn to trust in something much bigger.

“Kellie Coates Gilbert’s debut novel kept me turning pages and on the edge of my seat. Wonderful, richly-drawn characters who drew me in to their hearts despite their flaws. Mother of Pearl carries a sobering message but it’s deftly threaded through a story that is anything but sober. I will eagerly await Gilbert’s next offering.”

~Deborah Raney, author of the HanoverFalls Novels series from Howard/Simon & Schuster

“A cautionary tale for our times, Mother of Pearl is a compelling journey through loss and longing, grief and redemption, crime and justice. Kellie Coates Gilbert unfolds her story with the sensitivity of a skilled writer.”

~ Lisa Wingate, National best-selling, award-winning author of Dandelion Summer and BlueMoonBay

“A story that could have come from today’s headlines, Mother of Pearl is a compelling, thought-provoking debut. With impeccable prose, Kellie Coates Gilbert kept me turning the pages with this high-stakes story of one mother’s quest for healing and justice.”

~ Carla Stewart, award-winning author of Chasing Lilacs and Stardust
