Shadow in Serenity

by: Terri Blackstock

Book Blurb:

Carny Sullivan, suspicious about suave, handsome Logan Brisco and his charming ways, is drawn to him, despite her best intentions and her determination to expose his plans for her quiet Texas town.

Carny Sullivan grew up in the zany world of a traveling carnival. Quaint and peaceful Serenity, Texas, has given her a home, a life, and a child. Logan Brisco is the smoothest, slickest, handsomest man Serenity, Texas has ever seen. But Carny Sullivan knows a con artist when she sees one—and she’s seen plenty, starting with her father. As far as Carny Sullivan can tell, she’s the only one in town who has his number. Because from his Italian shoes to his movie-actor smile, Logan has the rest of the town snowed.

Carny is determined to reveal Brisco’s selfish intentions before his promise to the townspeople for a cut in a giant amusement park sucks Serenity dry. Yet, as much as she hates his winning ways, there is a man behind that suave smile, a man who may win her heart against her will. Shadow in Serenity is a modern-day Music Man, penned by a Christy Award-winning, New York Times bestselling author.

My Thoughts about Shadow in Serenity

Even though Logan Brisco was smooth talking and a con artist, he still sometimes has feelings of wanting to be part of a family, which he didn’t have. Being in the little town of Serenity, Texas for a week or so brought those feelings back on goodtime, especially after he started having feelings for Carny. Carny knows how people like Logan work because her mom and dad were con’s too and trained her to do the same thing. Thankfully she was over that life for good and had no intensions of going back.

I appreciate that Terri brought back one of her old novels, re-writing it as a Christian fiction. Though I can’t imagine someone like Logan, I know they do exist and con a lot of people out of their money and belongings so I’m glad to read a reminder of those kind. Despite him being a con, I liked Logan, and especially after he started spending so much time with Carny.  His character was believable because he played his part so well, thanks to the author! In fact, the author created really believable characters for the entire book, and I enjoyed getting to know them throughout the book.

This was a fun and interesting read, and I enjoyed it very much. I appreciate the author showing the necessity to living for the Lord and letting Him work through our lives. I don’t want to tell too much to give the story away, but this is one you need to read! If for no other reason, read it because Terri Blackstock took the time to give us a Christian version of this book!

Terri Blackstock

Terri Blackstock hasn’t always written for the Lord. Just over a decade ago she was an award-winning secular novelist writing for publishers such as HarperCollins, Harlequin, and Silhouette. With thirty-two titles published and 3.5 million books in print, she found that she was miserable. The compromises she had made in her career had taken their toll on her spiritual life, and she yearned to renew her relationship with Christ.

After much soul-searching and wrestling with God, she finally told the Lord that she would never write another thing that didn’t glorify Him. Thinking she might never be published again, she began planning ways to supplement her income, while she worked on her first idea for a Christian novel.

Because she enjoyed reading suspense novels, she tried weaving a faith message into a fast-paced page-turner with ordinary people in jeopardy. When Christian publishers expressed great interest, she realized that a secondary job would not be necessary. God was paving the way for her to enter the Christian publishing world.

Since that time, she’s sold 2 million Christian novels. She has over thirty Christian titles, many of which have been number one best-sellers. Her latest book, True Light, reached number one on the Top 50 of all Christian books the first full month it was in stores. Night Light was the winner of the 2007 Retailer’s Choice Award for General Fiction. Both books are part of her popular Restoration Series which began with Last Light. Other reader favorites include her Cape Refuge Series, her Newpointe 911 Series, her SunCoast Chronicles Series and her “Seasons” books written with co-author Beverly LaHaye.

Terri has appeared on national television programs such as “The 700 Club” and “Home Life,” and has been a guest on numerous radio programs across the country. The story of her personal journey appears in books such as Touched By the Savior by Mike Yorkey, True Stories of Answered Prayer by Mike Nappa, Faces of Faith by John Hanna, and I Saw Him In Your Eyes by Ace Collins.
